The heart-clenching suspense a good round of poker offers with huge wins isnt found elsewhere. Its a no-brainer that Poker has been the most popular and widely played out of all the other gambling games.
Now, players will find more than a few poker variations, with Texas Holdem being the widely preferred one. All this was made possible during the pandemic with the shutdown of brick-and-mortar casinos.
Fortunately, the worlds biggest and most luxurious casinos upgraded their system to the internet to please the gamblers. With people locked away in homes, online casinos became their salvation.
Even in 2022, the digital era has further boosted the success of online casinos. Poker is now truly online, and this online trend is forever here to stay. You can find the top online poker sites here, but we also came up with our own list of famous US poker movies below:
These US movies are majorly based on poker and the gambling environment. If you love poker, give these movies a try:
The best poker sites offer these biggest poker tournaments:
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the greatest live poker tournament and the dream of poker players. This annual event houses more than sixty tournaments, starting at the end of May and ending at the start of July.
WSOP dates back to 1970, when the finest poker players decided to find a single poker champion. Each player competing in the tournament had to pay the $10K buy-in, which remains the same.
This mega tournament offers millions in winnings. Besides money, it shows the potential of every participating grinder. And if you win, you will be awarded a bracelet. This is no ordinary bracelet. It has categories.
While some bracelets might be more prestigious, all these bracelets signify victory and success. Whoever receives this bracelet will be noted in the history of the finest winners of the tournament.
Players can prove their poker skills across every online variant, including H.O.R.S.E, Draw, Texas Holdem, and Pot Limit Omaha.
The World Series of Poker Circuit started in 2005 due to the popularity of the WSOP tournament. The attraction of this tournament is the lower buy-in limits the players can opt for. With this new tournament, players worldwide can easily participate in multiple locations in the United States.
The tournament has 21 locations with live poker rooms offering exhilarating poker rounds. Instead of the gold bracelets offered in WSOP, the organizers of WSOP-C offer a gold ring to the event winners.
Although not as big as the WSOP, this tournament promotes amateurs and pros alike, with buy-ins ranging between $300 to $1000.
WPT (The World Poker Tour) sparked global poker popularity and is one of the best US tournaments. It started by promoting a handful of elite poker tournaments. But with time, it has warmly welcomed novices, too.
Players can compete in high, medium, or low levels of MTTs. Another reason why WPT became so successful was because it was the first ever poker tournament that aired on live TV. It also aired some of the most entertaining shows on national TV.
Today, the WPT tournament will be broadcast in more than 150 countries with native translations. The tournament brought forth some of the best poker personalities like Gus Hansen, Mike Sexton, Doyle Brunson, and more.
With buy-ins ranging from $3,500 to $25,000 buy-ins, punters compete to win the $1 million prize. The winners of the WPT tournament receive an exclusive membership to the WPT Champions Club.
This WPT Champions Club gives trophies to all the winners of the WPT Main Tour events. Each cup has the winners name engraved on it. In 2008, this tournament started the WPT Ladies, a series of events only for women.
These buy-ins were less, between $300 to $1500, where the winners received a prize of more than $500,000. Without a doubt, WPT is one of the biggest poker tournaments held yearly.
Triton Poker or Triton Super High Roller Series is another one of the biggest poker tournaments hosted in multiple countries. The Triton Poker offers numerous poker tournaments with varying buy-in limits and winning prizes.
The previous year, Triton Super High Roller Series (Triton Million) had a prize pool of $66.5 million, and the winner took home $23 million in cash. The Triton Million tournament has a buy-in of $25,000. With the buy-in limit, you can tell that this tournament is expensive and played by professional poker players.
This tournament is considered the 6th largest poker tournament because of its huge prize pool. It is also the number#1 poker tournament that pays the highest cash prize to its winners.
Unlike the other high-rolling series and poker tournaments, WPT Deep Stacks started by offering action and thrill to low-stake players. But over time, WPT Deep Stacks took an exciting turn and changed its ways.
Now, the Deep Stacks tournaments are for the pros looking forward to proving their worth and winning millions. Deep Stacks main events have a buy-in of $1000 that participants must pay to enter the tournament.
Every player earns points to win the Player of the Season title. The lucky player who seizes this title at the end of the tour is offered a seat in the famous WPT World Championship and is given a WPT Deep Stacks sponsorship package with a free-of-cost entry to some of the best US poker tournaments.
These worlds biggest poker tournaments attract a massive player base each year. Every poker player dreams of playing and winning one of these tournaments. You should participate in these tournaments, too.

How to play poker: a beginners guide to poker rules
Posted: August 2, 2022 at 2:39 pm
Poker is one of the worlds most popular pastimes, and millions of people play poker around the globe. Live poker rooms, online poker sites, and poker home games are available to players in many areas of the world, and its never been easier to find a place to play poker.
While getting into a game might be simple, learning how to play poker can present an intimidating task. The Poker.org Ultimate Beginners Guide to poker offers everything you need to understand the rules, common terms, and other nuances of the most popular poker variants played around the world. In this guide, you will learn how to play poker, from the simplest of rules to understanding a full round of betting.
Poker embodies many different cardgames, each with its own set of rules. Texas Holdem stands as the worlds most popular poker game.
Other common games played at the worlds biggest poker rooms include Omaha and Five Card Draw. While all of the different poker variants play with unique rules, the fundamentals of betting, bluffing, common terms, and poker hand rankings apply to nearly all varieties of the game.
The Poker.org Ultimate Beginners Guide to playing poker outlines the basics for three of the worlds most popular poker variants: Texas Holdem, Five Card Draw, and Omaha.
The worlds most popular card game vaulted into mainstream notoriety after the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event. Americas Cardroom Team ProChris Moneymaker shocked the world by winning the prestigious poker tournament for a $2.5 million first-place prize, and interest inTexas Holdemskyrocketed around the globe.
The object in Texas Holdem is to make the best five-card hand using a combination oftwo hole cardsandfive community cards. The first round begins with each player getting two hole cards, which are dealt face down and are only seen by the player holding them until the end of the hand.
When each player receives their two hole cards, the pre-flop betting round begins. After that, the dealer puts the first three of five community cards on the table. Those three cards are face up and known as the flop.
After the flop hits the board, another betting round commences. The flop betting round is followed by another community card (also face up) hitting the board, known as the turn.
The turn betting round is followed by the dealer putting a fifth card on the board, known as the river. The dealing of the river begins the final round of betting, after which all remaining players show their hole cards. The player with the best five-card hand, using any combination of hole cards and community cards, wins.
Five Card Draw isnt as popular as Texas Holdem, but its still played at the World Series of Poker each year. Some online poker rooms also spread Five Card Draw games, and most video poker machines at live casinos play as a form of Five Card Draw.
Before Texas Holdem poker surged in popularity in the 2000s, Five Card Draw was perhaps the most commonly played poker variant in the world. A game of Five Card Draw begins with each player dealt five hole cards, all of which are face down and visible to only the player holding them.
After the deal, a betting round commences. Following that betting round, all players get the opportunity to discard as many cards from their hand as they wish, with the dealer replacing those discards with new cards.
When all players have discarded and drawn their selected number of cards, a final round of betting takes place. All remaining players (players who havent folded at some point in the hand) then showdown their cards, and the best five-card hand is the winning hand.
Omaha Pokerplays similarly to Texas Holdem, but with a few fundamental differences. Each player in a game of Omaha is dealt four hole cards instead of two.
Like Texas Holdem, the dealer puts five community cards on the table, across three betting rounds known as the flop, turn, and river. In Omaha, however, players must use exactly two hole cards in combination with three community cards to make the best hand. As expected, the best handwins.
In addition to these three most common types of Poker, there are other variations that you may want to be aware of. A few other poker variants include:
Most poker variants use the same system of poker hand rankings to determine the winner of each hand. The standard poker hand rankings include hands like theroyal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, and others.
The royal flush represents the strongest and rarest hand you can make in a poker game. A royal flush consists of a ten-to-ace straight, with all cards of the same suit.
Royal flushes sit at the top of the poker hand rankings, and all hands below it lose to the royal flush in a head-to-head showdown. The lower the probability of making a hand, the higher it ranks in the poker hand rankings.
For example, if you draw five random cards out of a standard 52-card deck, the odds against making a royal flush out of those five cards is 649,739-to-1. By comparison, the lowest-ranking hand in the rankings, the high card, gives about an even-money chance of drawing it randomly from the deck.
Heres a quick look at the highest-ranking poker hands, from strongest to weakest:
Note that some hands on this list overlap. For example, a straight flush consists of a straight and a flush in the same hand. The straight flush outranks both a flush and a straight, however.
In a battle between two hands of the same strength, the strongest high card wins. Check out Poker.orgspoker hand rankings chartfor a detailed look at how all of the possible made hands in a game of poker rank against each other.
Different poker variants can involve varying game rules, betting structures, and common terms. Most poker games operate the same way as far as the execution of the game, however.
Almost all poker games begin with each player dealt at least two cards. From there, players begin betting. The first designated player (according to a particular games betting rules) gets the opportunity to either call, bet, or fold.
From there, the action moves clockwise to the left of the dealer around the table until each player has the opportunity to bet, call, raise, check, or fold. After each player has a betting opportunity, the next round of action begins.
A round of Texas Holdem begins with the two players in thesmall blindandbig blindpositions posting the blinds. The blinds are mandatory bets that rotate around the table, moving clockwise one player after each hand. The size of the blinds determines the stakes of the game. A $1/$2 No-Limit Holdem game, for example, denotes a Texas Holdem game with a no-limit betting structure, a $1 small blind, and a $2 big blind.
Once the players in the blinds have posted the mandatory bets, the dealer begins dealing cards to each player. Starting with the player in the small blind, the dealer gives each player one card at a time until all players have two hole cards in front of them for Texas Holdem, or four cards for Omaha.
After the deal, the pre-flop betting round begins. The player to the direct left of the big blind (known as the under-the-gun player) gets the option to either call the big blind amount, raise to a higher amount, or fold.
For instance, lets say the first player to act decided to raise. The raise must be at least the size of the previous bet or raise, so in this case, the under-the-gun player has to raise to at least $4 (the amount of the $2 big blind plus the $2 minimum raise).
If the under-the-gun player raises to $4, the player on the direct left of under the gun then gets the option to either call (match the $4) bet, raise (increase the amount of the bet), or fold. The action moves around the table clockwise in this fashion until each player has the opportunity to call, raise, or fold.

After the pre-flop betting round closes, the dealer puts three community cards on the board, known as the flop. Another betting round commences, this time starting with the player in the small blind, or the first still-active player on the left of the small blind.
At the end of the flop betting round, the dealer places a fourth community card on the board. This card is known as the turn, or fourth street.
When the turn betting round closes out, the dealer puts the fifth and final community card on the board. This card is known as the river, or fifth street.
After the river hits the board, all remaining players go through a final betting round, starting with the player left of the dealer. At the end of this round, all remaining players show their hole cards, and the player with the strongest hand wins. In the event that theres a tie, the player with the highest card wins.
Most Five Card Draw games either use blinds or antes as the core betting structure. The blinds work the same way as in Texas Holdem or Omaha, while antes are a forced bet that acts as a buy-in for every player before each hand.
Once the blinds or antes are posted, the dealer deals five cards to each player, one at a time. When all players have five cards, the first betting round begins.
After all players get the chance to check, bet, raise, or fold, each player then has the opportunity to discard as many cards from their hand as they would like, and replace them with new cards from the undealt portion of the deck.
If a player wants to keep all five cards, they can stand pat and not discard or draw any new cards. After the discard round, another betting round takes place.
Once the final betting round is complete, all remaining players show their hole cards. The player with the best five-card handwins the pot.
Texas Holdem, Omaha, and Five Card Draw can all be played with a variety of different betting structures. The betting structure of a game can dramatically change the strategy.
The most common betting structures used in poker games around the world include no-limit,pot-limit, andfixed-limit structures.
No-limit betting allows any player to bet all of their chips at any time. Pot-Limit structures limit the maximum size of a bet or raise to the size of the pot thats already in the middle.
Fixed limit betting dictates a fixed maximum bet and raise for each betting round. Also known as simply limit betting, fixed limit games play significantly differently than games with no-limit or pot-limit rules.
No-Limit Texas Holdem stands as the worlds most popular poker game. No-Limit Holdem denotes Texas Holdem played with a no-limit betting structure.
At any given point in a hand of No-Limit Holdem, any player can go all-in, putting all of their chips in the pot. Players can go all-in during any betting round, including preflop, the flop, the turn, or the river.
If a player raises pre-flop without any previous calls or bets, that player is said to be open raising or opening. If the first player to enter a pre-flop pot calls the big blind, that player is said to be limping.
Re-raising against the original raiser in any betting round is known as three-betting. A raise against a three-bet is called a four-bet, and raising a four-bet is called a five-bet.
This naming for raises goes on from there, but its rare to see anything bigger than a five-bet in a No-Limit Holdem game. Pre-flop five-bets often put a player all-in.
Another common term in Texas Holdem is the continuation bet, or c-bet. A continuation bet happens when the last player that raised in the previous betting round makes the first bet in the next betting round.
No-Limit Texas Holdem games allow players to go all-in at any time, putting all of their chips into the pot. Texas Holdem can also be played with a pot-limit or fixed-limit betting structure.
Omaha plays similar to Texas Holdem, but players receive four hole cards instead of two. No-Limit Omaha games are rare, while Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) is the worlds second most popular poker game.
The betting terms of Pot-Limit Omaha are identical to No-Limit Holdem. In any pot-limit game, however, the maximum allowed bet or raise is equal to the amount of money already in the pot.
If its your turn to bet in a PLO game, the pot is calculated as the amount in the middle before the previous bet, plus that previous bet, plus the amount that would be in the pot if you called. Once youve calculated that amount, you can then raise it by a maximum of that amount.
Luckily for players, online poker sites make this calculation for you. Betting or raising the max in a PLO game is known as potting. In a live game, declaring pot commits you to making a pot-sized bet or raise.
Five Card Draw games can include no-limit, pot-limit, or fixed-limit betting structures. Unlike Texas Holdem or Omaha, the game doesnt involve community cards, and the betting is limited to two total rounds.
Once the cards are dealt, each player has the chance to either bet, raise, call, or fold. The first betting round commences when all players have gotten the chance to make an action.
After that, each player can discard as many cards as they like and replace them with new cards from the undealt deck. Once the discard round is done, a final betting round takes place.
For a beginning poker player, the best advice is to raise or fold most of the time. Reserve calling and checking for spots when the other options are no good. Some players choose to bet their best and worst hands, playing more carefully with medium-strength hands.
This approach means you sometimes win with the worst hand, and your opponents will have to call sometimes when you have a very strong hand because they know youre capable of bluffing.
Its important to think about what your opponent might hold when deciding if its the right time to bet, or if you should be a little more cautious. When youre feeling cautious, check so you can see what the next card brings.
Some players also choose to bet more when theyre last to act, and check more often when theyre first to act. There are no poker rules for knowing when to bet just general advice and your best guess.
Chips Poker chips represent money at the table. In a cash game, the different chip colors are equivalent to varying dollar amounts, and redeemable for real money. Tournament chips carry no cash value. For example, a T10,000 chip isnt equivalent to $10,000.
Banker In a home game, the banker is responsible for exchanges of cash and chips for all players. For private online games, the banker can use a payment processor like PayPal or Venmo to facilitate transactions.
Betting Limits Betting limits denote the maximum allowed bets and raises in games using a limit betting structure. A $4/$8 Limit Omaha Hi-Lo game, for example, allows a maximum bet/raise of $4 for the pre-flop and flop betting rounds, and an $8 maximum bet/raise for the turn and river rounds.
Fixed Limit Also known as simply limit, fixed-limit games cap the maximum allowed bet or raise. For most games, the early betting rounds allow a small bet and the later rounds allow the big bet. For instance, in a $4/$8 Limit Texas Holdem game, the first two betting rounds use the small bet ($4), and the final two rounds use the big bet ($8).
Pot Limit Pot limit games allow a maximum bet or raise thats equal to the size of the pot. Pot-Limit Omaha is the most popular game that uses this betting structure, but pot-limit betting rules can be applied to almost any game.
No Limit Games with a no-limit betting structure allow players to put all of their chips in the pot at any time.
Table Stakes Table stakes denote the amount of the big blinds or the betting limits in a given poker game. A $1/$2 No-Limit Texas Holdem game uses a $1 small blind and a $2 big blind, for example. In limit games, the stakes denote the maximum allowed bets and raises.

Success at the poker table is tougher than to attain than ever 2021. The modern poker landscape includes a wealth of training sites, free strategy resources, poker videos and online tools.
A player who puts time into poker study will always enjoy an edge against another player who doesnt put work into the game. A solid poker strategy base begins with fundamental knowledge of common terms, poker hand rankings, betting rules, and bankroll management.
Poker players can access many different resources for studying the game. Putting study time into poker away from the table is essential to winning in the modern era.
The good news is that there are lots of poker strategy resources online. Also, there are plenty of books to help you learn poker. Online poker training sites feature videos from pros explaining their thoughts on poker strategy. Through these videos, the pros will teach you through their play by analyzing hands after the game is over.
Depending on whether youll play cash games vs. tournaments, there are many options for improving your game. You can learn a lot from simple articles like this one that help you learn the rules of poker. But dont be afraid to dive into in-depth poker strategy books that delve into game theory.
You can even find educational apps and software that help you learn poker by looking at your play online and finding mistakes.
Americas Cardroom Team Pro Ebony Kenney contends that the amount of work an aspiring poker player puts in away from the table will directly affect results at the table.
The biggest tip I would say is to be honest with yourself and take the time to learn, Kenney says. Its never been easier to get better at poker, with all the free content out there now. So get out the pen and paper, take notes, and make a list of your strengths and weaknesses.
BE HONESTTTT. And dont be afraid of your mistakes. Dont be embarrassed. Every expert was once a beginner. Create a routine and system that is sustainable and KEEP GOING.
As with any game or skill, learning is a function of how dedicated you are to practicing. The game mechanics of Poker are simple enough to pick up within an afternoon. Whether you attain the skills to consistently win Poker games or even win money online will be entirely dependent on how much you practice.
Its also important to make your practice efficient. Just playing poker is not the same as studying and working hard to improve. Playing very small games at first will help preserve your bankroll until youre strong enough to beat bigger games. Talking through hands with a friend or a coach can help you move up much faster.
Online forums can be a big help, too. There are thousands of people out there trying to learn the rules of poker just like you are. Finding a community can help keep your study routine going and give you some honest feedback about your play.
One of the best ways to become familiar with poker is to play at free online poker sites. Free poker apps like Zynga Poker, PlayWSOP, PlayWPT and Replay Poker all offer online games at play money stakes.
Many of the worlds biggest online poker sites also offer play money games. Another way to play free poker is with friends, with something other than money on the line, such as plastic chips.
While they generally use the same rules, there are some big differences between cash games and tournament play. In a tournament, youre limited to the chips in front of you. As the blinds increase, the stacks will generally be much shorter. Cash games often have an average stack of over 100 big blinds.
To be a successful tournament player, youll need to learn to play a short stack well, and to play against short stacks too. And learning to use a big stack properly is one of the biggest differences in cash games vs. tournaments.
Cash game players need patience as well as aggression a tough combo to balance. The ability to move to a better table and choose when and where you play is a big advantage for cash game players who can hunt for the best games. Tournament players must stay at their assigned table and deal with the opponents they have in front of them.
Poker games can run with a minimum of two people. A one-on-one game of poker is known as a heads-up game, and heads-up matches frequently occur between high-stakes players.
For Texas Holdem, the maximum number of players seated at any one table is generally nine, though some poker rooms will seat ten players at a table.
Various games use different guidelines for the maximum number of players allowed. In general, ten players maximum at a table represents a good guideline for most games.
Home poker games are common around the world, and the groups of players sitting in on a home game are often friends and associates. The setting for a home poker game is often more relaxed and loose than what you would see at a casino.
Stepping into the online poker world presents an entirely different level of competition. When you play online real money poker, youre often playing against solid competition.
The feel of online poker is much different than a home game, and winning at online poker generally requires more study work versus playing in a home game.

In our guides for beginners, you find the official poker rules, the basic strategy tips, and the hand rankings because knowing how to calculate points is key if you want to win at poker.
One element used in most poker variants is the system of hand rankings.
The highest ranked hand is a Royal Flush (five cards of the same suit, ranked ace through ten), followed by a Straight Flush (five cards of the same suit of consecutive ranks).
The third-best combination is the Four-of-a-kind, which is then followed by the Full House (three of a kind plus one pair), the Flush, the Straight, the Three-of-a-kind, Two Pair, One Pair, and High Card or no pair.
When a hand reaches the showdown, the player with the highest-ranked hand wins the pot.
That's true of Texas hold'em, pot-limit Omaha, seven-card stud, and five-card draw.
Of course, in "lowball" games like razz or deuce-to-seven triple draw, the hand rankings are turned upside down and the 'worst' hand according to traditional hand rankings is the winning one.
Games like hold'em and Omaha feature small and big blinds, so called because they are "blind" bets players have to make before they are dealt any cards.
Meanwhile stud games usually use "antes", which also involve players putting chips in the middle before the hand begins.
From there players bet more as the hand progresses, thereby creating larger pots.
Some games are played with no-limit betting, which means players can bet as much as they like at any point in the hand, including going "all in."
Pot-limit betting means that the current size of the pot creates an upper limit on how much a player can bet.
Games that are played with fixed-limit betting have predetermined amounts from which players cannot vary when they make their bets and raises.
There are other terms that tend to be used in all different poker games, including many having to do with the actions you perform when playing.
When the action is on you, you can:
All of those terms are an important step in your journey to learn how to play poker since they tend to come up in all poker variants.
In games with community cards like hold'em and Omaha (also sometimes called "flop games"), the betting rounds are referred to as:
One other poker rule common to just about every variant you'll play whether you are playing live poker or online poker is one called "table stakes."
Table stakes means that once a hand begins, you can only bet whatever amount you had on the table to begin the hand and are not allowed to add anything more during the hand as it plays out.
If you only have $100 on the table to begin a hand, you can't pull out your wallet and add more halfway through the hand you can only play out the hand with whatever you had to start.
Now that you know the basic poker rules and you have links to go back to your poker guides when you need to, it's time to look for the best websites to practice poker online.

Differences between online and traditional poker – UKTN (UK Technology News
Posted: at 2:39 pm
With technological improvements allowing it to take on a new, virtual form, online poker is becoming more popular like its traditional counterpart. In the event that you dont feel like going to a casino, you can now play poker online with only a few clicks, which has thrilled a spate of committed players from all over the world. Individuals who like to play card games in a more conventional style may still be able to appreciate the core of these games.
Whether youre playing at a casino or in the comfort of your home , the rules are the same either way. For those of you who are attempting to choose which kind of play is best for you, it may be beneficial to consider the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Because the players are not sitting directly across from one another, they are unable to read the body language and emotions of their opponents. When playing online poker, the player learns to pay greater attention to betting patterns, reaction times of other players, and any other non-physical behavioural traits that may be present when playing. The fact that the game of poker requires rapid adaptation means that a good online player will get acclimated to their new surroundings in a short period of time.
The tempo of the game varies dramatically as well, but in a less noticeable way. As an alternative, if you were to play poker at a local business such as a casino, the dealer would be responsible for dealing and reshuffling the cards after each hand was completed. Because of these and other delays that are normal in regular poker games, you can anticipate playing thirty hands every hour on average throughout your session.
Internet poker, on the other hand, is not affected by these delays since the dealing and re-shuffling of cards are both done in real-time without any delay. In addition, there are no perceptible delays in the chip counting procedure while using this method (for pointing out a split pot).
The use of auto-action buttons allows for a more rapid pace of play (where a player is able to select the action of his before it is his turn). Consequently, it is not unusual to play 90-100 hands each hour in a web-based poker game.
In the past decade, the popularity of online poker has grown by leaps and bounds. At one point in time, poker players were required to visit land-based casinos or their friends homes in order to take part in a game of cards. For players to be able to engage in online poker, all that is required now is a straightforward registration procedure. For more information on which providers are available to choose from and finding in-depth information about we highly recommend the guide by the experts at Basketballinsiders that covers the best online poker sites in Malaysia, where you will get the best information and be able to make an informed decision on the top poker room for you. It will also provide you with details of how to play online poker real money Malaysia style. There are substantial distinctions between playing poker online and playing poker in a real-world environment. If you compare the ease of accessibility of online poker to that of live poker, online poker is substantially more convenient. Because they may access the game at any time of day or night, participants save both time and money by not having to go out from their residences to participate. To participate, all that is necessary is a computer and an internet connection.
When playing online poker, it is possible to play at many tables at the same time. A players odds of success are considerably increased as a result of this. Before making a deposit, most online casinos enable new players to test out the game for free before committing any funds. Being able to play without being concerned about losing money while making basic mistakes is a significant advantage for young players who are just starting out.
Numerous poker purists continue to think that online poker does not represent the true character of the game. According to the purists, online poker has lost some of its allure and tension because of the widespread use of software that simulates a real-world game. In order to evaluate which choice is the most advantageous, we must first explore the differences between online and offline poker games.
When playing offline poker games, players may read each others body language. By doing so, players will be able to learn the complexities of bluffing, which is a crucial component of every poker game. Although it is tough to organise offline poker games, many rookies to poker avoid playing at land-based poker tables at casinos since the players who frequent these tables are frequently of a higher grade than newcomers.
Is land-based poker superior to internet poker, or is it the inverse? In poker, like in many other fields, the answer is it depends.
Its important to familiarise yourself with the differences between playing live and playing online so that you can make an informed decision about which is best for you and your game.
If you live in a country where there are just a few online poker sites, consider yourself lucky. If you live somewhere else, consider yourself fortunate.
The online poker sites allow novices to train for free and play at low stakes. An important step toward becoming a successful poker player may be taken here.
It is possible to learn more about your opponents and gain a better sense of a table and game at a land-based poker facility.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages, and none is better than the other. After reading about the differences between the two options, you should be able to make an informed decision.

Poker Rules to Be Broken: In Defense of Drinking at the Table – CardsChat.com
Posted: at 2:39 pm
August 1, 2022Poker Strategy
Read any beginners poker book. Early in the text, right after the ranking of poker hands, youre likely to see the age-old rule against drinking alcohol while playing poker. Youll be warned about demon rum and its deleterious effect on your game. Youll be soberly advised not to imitate the scenes out of the old Westerns, where the seasoned cowboy swigs some red eye while playing yet another hand of 5-card draw. Dont be like that youll be told.
To be sure, there are many good reasons to follow this basic rule. Alcohol, in all its forms, is a sedative. It interferes with your best judgment, unleashes your emotions, makes you tired, and, in general, hinders your ability to play your best game. For some, alcohol is also dangerously addictive.
Because of this, it wouldnt be wrong for many people poker players or otherwise to avoid alcohol altogether.
That said, its also true that some poker rules are meant to be broken, at least occasionally. And heres why this one, about staying booze-free at the table, has its exceptions:
Lets say youve been invited to a home game. Its a $1/2 game with no cap on the buy-in a casual affair set up by some friends from work.
Things are just getting started as you arrive, with just taking their seats. Theres a grill going, people are having a great time, and the host asks if youd like a beer or something harder as he points you to a cooler and motions to a bar. Sure enough, all of the other players are either sipping a cocktail or have a beer in front of them at the table.
In this situation, it would be best if you had a beer, too, unless, of course, youre an alcoholic, pregnant, or have some other personal reason for abstaining. So long as its not just because youre playing poker.
The idea is to fit in. You dont want to appear to take the game too seriously. If you ask if theres a Red Bull, coffee, or water, you run the risk of drawing attention to yourself something you dont want to do in this extremely casual place.
This is especially true because your style of play and expertise (and probably results) will already tend to set you apart and alert people to your poker skill. Its not so much that you want these folks all to become your friend. But by seeming to take the game so seriously that youre not willing to drink with everyone else again, not including recovering alcoholics, pregnant people, or conscientious abstainers you increase the chance that your opponents will adopt a more serious or cautious style of play around you.
I know many players who have developed the skill of nursing a beer. They hardly consume much alcohol at all, but dont look like they are trying to avoid it. Thats the key.
Just as alcohol tends to be a lubricant for conversation by lowering inhibitions, it also tends to be a catalyst for gambling as alcohol often erodes a players plans to be strategic and careful in their approach to the game. While imbibing alcohol may not be good for your game, its often very good for the game itself.
Ive found that ordering a drink myself can encourage others to do the same. Especially at my own home game, if I have a drink it tends to give others a green light to ask whats on tap. On the other hand, if I start out with a seltzer, water, coffee, or some energy drink, some of my more observant guests are likely to follow my lead and instead of a loose and friendly game, were in for an all-night nit-fest.
Ive even heard visiting players say to me, when Ive popped open a Sam Adams, as long as youre drinking, Ill have something too. Similarly, upon noticing my non-alcoholic beverage, they have commented, Oh, its one of those kinds of games as they eschewed the freely offered alcoholic beverages to grab water instead.
Your goal here isnt to encourage your friends and competitors to get wasted and lose all sense of reason. But if you can help foster a friendlier, looser atmosphere at the table, thats the sort of environment that has players wanting to come back regardless of whether they win or lose.
So help set a tone for gambling, maybe a little more than usual. Its a friendly game of poker, sure, but doesnt mean you dont want to come out ahead at the end of the night.
If, for biological, sociological, or religious reasons youre a teetotaler, far be it for me to encourage you to take up a new addiction. But if you refrain from alcohol for strategic reasons, or because youre concerned that alcohol will have a negative effect on your best poker game, let me suggest that there are times when you can loosen up. Im not saying you should start pounding them down. But a little bottoms up may help your bottom line.

Why Is ‘Poker After Dark’ One of the Best TV Programs for Casino Lovers? – Entertainment Focus
Posted: at 2:39 pm
As a result of the rise of different streaming services such as Netflix, Apple TV and Amazon Prime, finding a TV show has never been easier. However, its never been harder at the same time.
Hicks Law states that the more choice we are faced with, the harder a decision becomes and this is probably best exemplified by the hours of browsing you can end up doing on a streaming platform.
There is no sure-fire way to choose a new TV show, but narrowing down your options will certainly help. Picka theme youre interested in,perhaps relating to your hobbies or genres you find most entertaining.
In this article, weve chosen the theme of gambling, which has been used frequently as the topic for multiplefilms and TV shows. Poker, in particular, has become so popular that the offer of online casino promotionshas become a staple for many providers. Its now possible to get free chips when you deposit a certain amount on a live casino game, for example. And that popularity is arguably what led tothe show Poker After Dark. It originally aired in the 2000s and remains a great watch for anybody interested in gambling.
Unlike a lot of other TV shows, Poker After Dark doesnt lean on the action and tension that comes with high-stakes gambling on-screen. Rather, it entertains its viewers by diving into the history of different poker games and gambling. Here, youre going to pick up new tips and tricks for different casino games and will also learn about how certain poker strategies became famous and when they should be used.
The show had a particular format that was enjoyable by many because it expandedupon everything that we originally thought we knew about the game. Though luck plays a large part, when you begin to dive deep into the different strategies that are availablethe number of different ways to play games is astounding, and Poker After Dark explained them in great detail.
The format particularly stands out in the modern age as there are a large number of people who enjoy playing on online poker websites. This means the number of people that have an interest in the game is higher than there was when it originally aired, helping the show keep its credibility and relevance in a way thata lot of other TV programs were unable to.
When it comes to choosing a TV program that centres around poker and casinos, it can be hard to find options that actually revolve around the game rather than those which create a storyline surrounding it. Poker After Dark is a great option if you would like to learn about different tips and strategies surrounding gambling games. The amount of variation that comes with different games and the strategies that players can implement are all explored in a way that few other TV programs have properly done.

A Poker Hand Ranking of Street Photo Compositions – PetaPixel
Posted: at 2:39 pm
I thought Id have a bit of fun when out shooting the street, so I started naming my street compositions according to winning hands when playing cards. So from a truly exceptional hand (a brilliant composition filled with complexity) to the simplest card (a simple snapshot of a straightforward subject).
Taken in Kolkata at the famous flower market. Id been going there most days during my week-long stay in the city and one early morning, as I walked under the motorway bridge, this image presented itself to me: beautiful light, almost biblical, and against all common compositional rules in street photography, with the main figure in the center being camera aware. I took just a couple of frames before the grouping split apart.
Its definitely one of those places that you know one day is going to reward you, and after 5 years and over 20 visits, it certainly paid dividends!
Taken again in Kolkata at the Kalighat Kali Temple. Again I knew this background well and visited it many times and have kept doing so since, but on this one occasion, the three different compositions all came together. And then, to complete the photograph, an Indian lady with a red sari walked through the image filling the space to the left. This composition splits the frame into three or four smaller ones, each with its own story: its one of the street photography techniques that can yield great images.
An image taken in Dawei, Myanmar. This was one of those great photography adventures, originally flying into Yangon and then taking a prop plane all the way down to Myeik to then work our way back every few days via Ye, Dawei, and Mawlamyine, taking in the beautiful cultures found well off the beaten track. Im looking forward to going back someday when the borders re-open to rekindle our memories.
Wed made our way into one of the many monasteries in Dawei where I found this great background with four kids just chilling and a dog lying on the stairs, I stayed there for about 15 mins as the scene developed with dogs wandering through the picture and waited till the whole composition came together.
Taken on a photography course in Dallas called Foundation Workshop, probably the best course Ive ever attended, with two of my mentors being Pulitzer prize winners: Deanne Fitzmaurice and Greg Gibson. It was probably one of the first layered images I set out to take.
Taken in the fish market in Yangon.
Taken in Jodhpur.
An image with a group of three and a group of two taken in Kolkatas vegetable market. The key to the picture is background selection and then waiting for the elements to come together, such as heads in spaces and a natural decisive moment between the group of 3. This is one of the fundamental street photography techniques to get a successful shot: work the scene, compose ad wait for it to develop.
This image is also taken in Kolkata.
Street Scene Kolkata
The Flush: five people come together. Taken in Dawei on the beach where we were practicing putting heads in the sky and shooting thru creating natural frames. I shot a lot of frames for this image on my Sony A9 and 35mm lens to make sure the ball was captured in its own space.
Five similar people in a group. Taken in Kolkata around the Sudder Street market area. The photo above was a gift with three guys leaning chatting on a poster wall, whereas in the below image the group in the foreground was stationary with a great background and it was a case of waiting for someone to fill the gap. I got the added bonus of a random hand.
A bar in Myanmar.
Three workers in Hanoi central park.
Kolkata Flower Market. Its often fun to challenge yourself and look for different items with one of these street photography techniques of shooting through along with keeping all their heads in spaces. I noticed a lot of the bikes had these huge saddles so tried on several occasions to use the large spring to shoot thru, and patience rewarded me.
I noticed the guy reading the paper and that it was acting as a reflector pushing the light back into his face. I acknowledged him and he let me continue shooting as I waited for the other two people in the temple to make a better composition.
Two men and his son repairing a bike in Yangon. As I approached the scene the kid jumped over his dad and used the wheel to almost hide behind making a great composition. All I had to do then was ensure that the childs eye wasnt obscured by the spokes of the wheel.
Sometimes you get lucky. I saw the scene from across the street so crossed over to take the photo and at that moment the cat got up and stretched out making a nice little addition to the three men.
Taken in Nagaland, not strictly street photography but we had arranged this adventure to visit and photograph some of the last headhunters alive. We were really lucky to witness them smoking opium.
Taken in the Kolkata Flower Market using the foreground subjects as a frame and waiting for the right shape to happen, allowing me to capture the secondary subjects behind
Taken in Camden Market relatively early in the day: I saw this great prop hanging from a glasses store so then waited for the right grouping to come into the frame.
A group of two people or a pair of hands. These character hands were spotted in Myanmar along with the twins in matching dresses.
Just a single great image or street portrait in the context of where the person is or what they are doing.
Taken in Kolkata.
Taken in Soho, London where I pre-focused on something at a similar distance, then just moved in and took the picture before he hastily moved on! Pre-focusing is another one of the street photography techniques that allow you to be unobtrusive and fast.
Part of a project I covered shooting speakers corner.
I hope this fun little exercise was interesting and inspirational to you. Happy shooting!

Best Poker Hoodies to Wear in the Casino – Top 4 to Buy – Gambling Sites
Posted: at 2:39 pm
Controversial opinion incoming poker hoodies are an excellent asset for any player.
Obviously, I am not alone in thinking that. However, I would wager to guess that there are more that would disagree with me. Were all entitled to our opinions, of course. The same applies to what we decide to wear to the table. Well, within reason.
Looking good can make you feel good. Feeling good can help you play better. Beyond these points, there are other practical cosmetic reasons why you should hood up before hitting the tables. Not with any old hoodie, of course.
What you wear is not usually something you must concern yourself with while playing on the best online casinos. But in person? What you wear can influence how others see you. And no game on earth requires the type of psychological nous that poker demands from its players.
Ill rank the four top poker hoodie types you should consider for playing in person. First, lets look at the best styles to wear when hitting the online poker rooms.
Top Poker Hoodies for Playing Online
If youre looking for the best hoodies for poker players but only intend to play online, Ive got some excellent news.
You have multiple options. You can wear a big, fluffy onesie with a pink wolf on the front, and no one will bat an eyelid. Well, none of your opponents, of course. After all, its not like they can see you, is it?
The two main reasons why poker players wear hoodies these days can be broken down into two categories practical and vanity. Where practicality is involved, we wear hoodies at the tables to limit the number of tells an opponent can potentially pick up on. But the main reason? To keep us warm!
Casinos can be cold. You dont want to end up like Frankie Carbone in the back of the meat truck in Goodfellas.
If you think freezing to death will almost certainly prevent any keen observer from reading your next move, youre pretty right and kinda wrong. But what good are those chips to you if you cant cash em in with Saint Peter?
As for playing online? Sure, utility prices have gone through the roof. If youre playing in winter, you dont exactly need a fashionable poker hoodie when youre playing in the top poker rooms on the net. You can wear anything that will do a similar job in keeping your temperature in line with other mammals.

The sites above are a great place to try your luck against other poker players.
If youre killing it, you can wear whatever you want. Before you launch an assault on the world, just make sure to play at sites that are congruous to playing comfortably and safely. The ones above, which our poker experts recommend, are all 100% legal, trustworthy, and above board.
In addition to top bonuses for players, you can play various games and variants. Depending on your stake, youll find plenty of cash games and even some freerolls to get involved in. There is no dress code, either. So feel free to rock up in one of the top hoodies for poker players or that same Metallica/y-fronts combination that youve been rocking for the past week.
Well, Id suggest a shower and a change of clothing if it is the latter.
As someone who enjoys wearing the best poker hoodies for vanity reasons and the practical kind, looking good can help you feel good. Positivity can be a key factor in playing right. You might not have any designs on hitting the tables in a brick-and-mortar casino. But if youre crushing it, that might change.
And youre going to need an outfit to match your new ambitions.
4. The Unabomber Hoodie
Perhaps the most famous of all poker hoodies is Phil Laaks Unabomber.
Now. While the World Series of Poker bracelet winner has become synonymous with wearing hooded sweatshirts since breaking onto the scene, he has worn multiple versions over the years. I mean, who would have thunk it?
Dublin-born Laak first became prominent in February 2004 with a Celebrity Invitational win. This was around the time of the first global poker boom, which saw him and his peers gain world stardom. Its easy to understand why a guy named after one of the most infamous domestic terrorists of the 20th century would turn heads. Especially when dressed in the famous hoodie-shades combination.
I cant be sure if Laaks moniker was donned before or after his success at the tables. Yes, thats a halfhearted attempt at a joke
I am sure that Laaks style influenced many tryhards and upstarts. Im talking, of course, about his style of clothing. While I wouldnt rate Laaks the best poker sweatshirt of all time, others see the cultural significance of his hoodie as something to imitate. The good news is that you can get the look without shelling out big bucks.
While Laak has changed the style of the hoodie he has worn over the years, the original which some still see as the best is the Unabomber. And according to some sources, its just a gray Champion hoodie with the tags and markers taken off.
Of course, the style of hoodies back in the day are harder to come by. Even harder than a guy born in Dublin and raised in Massachusetts that wears a Union Jack cast. My brain cannot figure that one out. I guess he just took the entire unpredictable very seriously?
Anyway, Ive had a look and come across some new and older poker hoodies online, which could do the trick. Your call!
3. The Cheapo Poker Hoodie that Wont Break the Bank
The best poker hoodies dont have to cost an arm and a leg.
They can come in all shapes and sizes. Providing they keep you warm in the arctic temperatures of the casino floor and dont hinder how the rest of the table sees you, you could pick a solid one up for less than $25. And yes, Im serious.
Cheap doesnt always mean good, of course. But if youre a struggling young player looking to rock the enigmatic, mysterious look, they can be very cost-efficient. With more wins, you could raise enough funds to target the best poker player hoodies over a few hundred dollars. But who knows? You might think, Nah, Im good, and wear that sweatshop-made piece of crap as a self-identifying marker.
As your rise to the top begins to gather steam, you could even find your choice of clothing leads to other players creating nicknames on your behalf. In a matter of days, you might find yourself heading to your state courthouse with a change of name application for Cheapo Charlie, Thriftshop Tim, or, erm, Kenny.
Still, would you care? As long as you are winning, does it even matter what you are wearing?
Well, no. Not necessarily. But you might see how some people ask, Why do poker players wear hoodies? More to the point, why many will provide an answer that points toward it being down to vanity.
Sometimes that is the case, of course. Yet, one of the good poker habits to always keep in mind is to pay attention to other players. Part of that is analyzing what they are wearing. So, if youre not comfortable with the idea of playing poker in a cheapo hoodie, it might be time to consider the alternatives.
Moving on
2. The Midrange Priced Hoodie for Poker Players
There is a misconception that the top poker hoodies must be branded by a leading poker apparel company.
Nope. I have never found that to be the case. I havent found one dedicated hoodie for poker players that could transform my game. By that, I mean play better. After all, a hoody is just another piece of clothing. So, why shell out $200 when you get something to keep you comfortable and warm while giving you a sense of anonymity?
Thats not a knock on the top poker player hoodies, of course. But remember that many legends and high-level pros are gifted these items and even paid to wear them. You are not.
At least, I dont think you are. I mean, you could be Phil Hellmuth or Espen Jorstad. But I doubt it.
Anyway, what will a midrange-priced poker hoodie get you? Aside from a well-crafted fashion accessory, you will also benefit from feeling rather sharp while not dishing out silly amounts of cash for the privilege.
Best Hoodies in This Category
Multiple hoodies by the likes of North Face, Adidas, Nike, and more will serve the key purpose of wearing one in the first place.
You want to stay comfortable with a fit-for-purpose hood and drawstring. However, you dont want to overheat when things get a little testy.
Ever heard of Roots of Fight? They do some awesome clothing based on boxers and martial arts from the early 20th century. The quality of their stuff is excellent and doesnt break the bank.
My favorite piece of clothing I have from these guys is a red Sugar Ray Leonard hooded sweatshirt. I got it as a gift a few years ago, and it has been my top poker hoodie to wear when I am playing in-person games. It also goes well with my Ray-Ban glasses, so I dont look like a try-hard.
Not only does it feature my favorite boxer of all time on the front, but its mega comfortable. It has a great hood, drawstring, and large, deep pockets. It will keep you warm, but not to a level where you start overheating.
If you can find it, all the best to you. If not, you can see what other gems the company has out. If youre not the biggest fight fan or dont want to be associated with the companys gear, Id suggest looking at brands like North Face or Nike. Just make sure to choose from the best poker hoodies that are also fit for purpose.
Just dont forget to have a hood with deep pockets for all those chips youve collected!
1. The High-Priced Designer Hoodie
My list of the best poker hoodies you can buy will always include top-of-the-range designer brands.
But are you putting the likes ofGucci, Armani, and Louis Vuitton at number one? Isnt that about as braindead as it is predictable? Do I have any self-respect, you ask?
Well. Why bother with the crap when you can float onto the casino floor looking like 1.2 million dollars (adjusted for inflation)? As we have seen with every ostentatious rich person ever, wearing designer brands turns you into a philanthropist, shoots your IQ up about thirty points, and makes you better than everyone at pretty much everything.
Ah, but do hoodies make you better at poker? Potentially. Would a designer hoodie raise your poker game to unimaginable levels? Maybe. I mean, have you tried yet?
Lets reel things in a minute. I dont want anyone getting confused here. I am, of course, joking. Wearing an Armani hoodie to the poker table is unlikely to see you change from an average player to the next WSOP champion. Psychologically, though?
Yes, it could help. Youd feel as fresh as a spring daisy and look so awesome in the bargain.
Providing your carry yourself right and make sure to also have some crisp pants and shoes to match, youll be sending off the right vibes. Everyone will be too invested in your magnetism to pay attention to what they are doing. Before long, the entire casino will be glued to you and your table as chants of Jerry, Jerry, Jerry! ring out even though your name is Brian.
But you dont care. Youre dressed like a rock star and crushing it in the looks department. And thats all that matters, especially when you awake from your fantasy to find that youve been eliminated and have nothing left.
Money might not buy you happiness. That is true. But its much cooler to cry your eyes out in the bathroom of a casino when you are wearing a Louis Vuitton hoodie.
Much better than welling up in a cheapo hoodie that decided to divorce its zip over a dispute with your bulging waistline
What Makes the Best Poker Hoodies?
Like my treasured Ray Leonard piece, the best poker hoodies are ones that are practical and provide warmth.
At the same time, you want one that doesnt make you sweat faster than Prince Andrews body double in a sauna. While most casinos can be chilly places to sit around for hours on end, Ive also been to more than one that feels stuffy and overbearing.
Important
Remember, some casinos might not let you wear hoodies. Even if hoods are allowed, wearing those with political or offensive language might see you crap out before you can get in.
This is something that is often learned the hard way, so prepare to be challenged.
Finally, if you cant stand the thought of wearing a hoody, do not fret. You can always wear a shirt, a blouse, a suit, or a ballerina costume. Providing the casino has no rules against it, which you can check before you go, feel free to wear whatever you please.
If the idea of hoodies and the people inside bother you, there is another way of playing poker. That is, to get in on the action from the comfort of your own home. Or your partners. Or wherever, once you have a means to do so and an internet connection.
