Beau "Don K. Nado" Wilshire Wins the MSPT Grand Falls $1110 Main Event ($104579) – PokerNews.com

Posted: August 23, 2022 at 1:11 am

After two full days of play, there is a new Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Main Event champion in the MSPT world. Beau "Don K. Nado" Wilshire has bested the stacked field of 503 entrants and win the MSPT Grand Falls Casino $1,110 Main Event.

There may not have been a more interesting winner in the field. From Shawnee, Kansas, Wilshire washes golf carts part-time.

"I'm more of a cash game player," Wilshire said. "I mostly play online. This is my first tournament win. I can finally show my family a trophy so they don't think I'm a drug dealer."

The 503 entrants generated a $486,410 prize pool and a first-place prize of $104,579, which Wilshire took home along with the MSPT Main Event trophy. When asked what he's going to do with the money, WIlshire shared, "I'm going to buy my cat, McLovin'...like Superbad, some cat food."

Others to finish in the money by making the top 54 spots were WSOP bracelet winners John Reading (13th - $5,837) and Chad Himmelspach (19th - $4,426), MSPT Hall of Famer Blake Bohn (24th - $3,745), Luke Blindert (29th - $2,627), Dan "DQ" Hendrickson (34th - $2,627), and Thane Fliginger (42nd - $2,383).

Wilshire had his fair share of hands to share with the family and McLovin'. He flopped a set of fives during three-handed play to run down the aces of Adam Schultz. He also eliminated Elizabeth Ethridge in fourth place when he woke up with a better overpair. In fact, he also eliminated sixth-place JC Nguyen with a sick hero call; seventh-place finisher Mikiyo Aoki when he won a race by turning a set; and eighth-place finisher and former PokerNews senior editor Mo Nuwwarah when he won a race by flopping a king. He single-handedly eliminated half of the final table on his path to victory.

"I'm driving six hours home tonight," said Wilshire. "Well, actually seven since it's an electric car and I'll have to charge it. That's the worst part about them."

His car will lose charge a little faster than usual tonight, weighed down by a six-figure check and a heavy trophy to show his family. Safe travels, Don K. Nado. Safe travels.

That does it for our coverage here in Larchwood, Iowa at the Grand Falls Casino. Congratulations to Beau "Don K. Nado" Wilshire for his first tournament win.

The MSPT will now head to Las Vegas for a stop at The Venetian from September 3-5 followed by the 2022 United States Poker Championship at San Diego's Sycuan Casino Resort from September 15-25.

In this guide, well tell you everything you need to know about the Poker Cards what they do but more importantly, where to get them.

Poker cards increase the value of the games 4 critical stats Luck, Speed, Health, and Bullseye Chance. Characters with more than 100 Luck are able to make near-impossible shots. Health is the characters overall health pool. Characters with a lot of Speed can cover more tiles using 1 AP compared to a character that has less Speed. Bullseye Chance increases the likelihood of making a critical shot. (Represented by the yellow bar when aiming at an enemy.) Theres a separate value called a Bullseye Multiplier which can be increased through a combination of traits and trinkets.

The 9 card offers the lowest value while Aces offer the best.

While it is possible to collect all the main cards in one playthrough. 9 cards are often side missions that can easily be dismissed because of the cards low value. They are best seen as placeholders until you are able to make better card hands.

Trio accused of bending cards, cheating on Las Vegas Strip to win tens of thousands of dollars – KLAS – 8 News Now

Posted: at 1:39 am

2 take plea deal, 1 arrested on warrant Monday

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) Investigators with the Nevada Gaming Control Board said three men bent cards while playing table games similar to poker, cheating at least three Las Vegas Strip casinos of tens of thousands of dollars, court documents said.

Pogos Simityan faces charges of committing fraudulent acts in a gaming establishment, cheating in a gaming establishment and cheating at gaming. Las Vegas Metro police arrested him on a warrant Monday, records showed.

The two other suspects, Vahan Sudzhyan and Gevorg Avagyan, took plea deals on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime. Both were arrested previously.

The casino manager at Paris Las Vegas contacted the Nevada Gaming Control Board on July 4, 2021, to report that Simityan, of California, and the two other suspects were actively bending cards during their gameplay, investigators wrote in court documents.

Card bending is a method of cheating where a player bends the corner[s] of playing cards one way or the other based on their values, investigators wrote in court documents. This enables a player to know what value the dealers hole card[s] are based on the way it lays on the table game.

The casino manager told investigators Simityan was playing a form of poker and began bending all face cards and aces to gain an advantage during their gameplay, court documents said.

Officials also learned the same three suspects were bending cards the day before at Planet Hollywood, investigators said.

The group, including Simityan, came away with more than $126,000, investigators said. Simityan had cashed out approximately $60,000 in gaming chips earlier during his gameplay, investigators said. The games involved were Mississippi Stud and Let It Ride, according to investigators.

Paris security officers reviewed video of the suspects playing at the table and later detained them, investigators said.

Gaming board personnel found all face cards and aces on both decks were bent either inward or outward in relation to the non-numbered [front] side of the playing card, investigators said.

While performing their inspection, Simityan reported chest pain and went to the hospital.

On July 5, the Wynn Las Vegas contacted the gaming board saying they had also been victimized by the same card bending scheme and suspects, investigators said. The trio cashed out approximately $19,000 as a result of their criminal activities, at the Wynn, documents said.

Investigators went to Simityans hotel room at the Wynn, finding he had abandoned his hotel room, court documents said.

Following his arrest Monday, a judge ordered Simityan to stay out of all casinos pending his next hearing.

Avagyan and Sudzhyan agreed to pay restitution and may serve jail time upon sentencing, court records said.

CFTC charges World Series of Poker player Dan Shak with ‘spoofing’ – FinanceFeeds

Posted: August 8, 2022 at 12:09 pm

His spoof orders allegedly allowed him to fill orders on the opposite side of the market sooner, at a better price, and/or in larger quantities than they otherwise would have been filled.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has charged Daniel Shak with spoofing and engaging in a manipulative and deceptive scheme in the gold and silver futures markets.

Daniel Shak is a hedge fund manager mostly known for his participation in the World Series of Poker. He established SHK Asset Management, a hedge fund focused on gold futures.

This is not the first time he has found himself in hot water with regulators in the United States. In 2013, he was ordered to pay a $400,000 fine for attempting to manipulate the price of Light Sweet Crude Oil (WTI) futures contracts on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). As a result, he was permanently banned from trading in any Crude Oil markets.

He also settled a claim against him in March 2015 related to trading during the closing minute of gold and silver futures markets. In December 2020, following a Business Conduct Committee investigation, he was fined $65,000 fine for engaging in disruptive activity in the silver and gold futures markets.

The new civil enforcement action in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada states that, from February 2015 through March 2018, Daniel Shak repeatedly engaged in manipulative or deceptive acts and practices by spoofing while placing orders for and trading gold and silver futures contracts on the Commodity Exchange, Inc.

Spoofing is bidding or offering with the intent to cancel the bid or offer before execution. By placing the spoof orders, Shak intentionally or recklessly sent false signals of increased supply or demand that were designed to trick market participants into executing against orders on the opposite side of the market, which he actually wanted filled, the CFTC said.

The regulator added that, on hundreds of occasions, Daniel Shak entered large orders for gold or silver futures that he intended to cancel before execution, while placing orders on the opposite side of the gold or silver futures market.

His spoof orders allegedly allowed him to fill orders on the opposite side of the market sooner, at a better price, and/or in larger quantities than they otherwise would have been filled.

CFTC Acting Division of Enforcement Director Gretchen Lowe, said:These charges demonstrate once again that the CFTC will vigorously prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, misconduct that has the potential to undermine the integrity of our markets.

The Muck: $100K to Live in WSOP Site Bally’s for a Year? – PokerNews.com

Posted: at 8:09 pm

Landon Tice discussed a $100,000 prop bet with Patrick Leonard to live at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas, the home of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), for one year, but the restrictions are quite strict.

Winning this six-figure wager, although not an official bet just yet, might be more difficult than it seems on the surface. Many poker players have stayed long periods of time in the same hotel, but this prop bet calls for Tice to remain on property throughout the duration. If he were to walk across the street to play some $5/$10 at Bellagio, he loses.

Inside the host venue, he's free to move as he pleases, eat where he wants, play poker, gamble, drink, and do just about anything except get into the pool (although he can access the pool area).

As for how the pool rules would be monitored, Tice said it would be based on an "honor code," as it would be difficult for Leonard to enforce it.

Full details of the prop bet will have to be ironed out between the two gamblers, including when the wager will begin, assuming it ever actually comes to fruition. Over the next year, Caesars Entertainment plans to fully renovate Bally's and transform it into Horseshoe Las Vegas. So it's likely that by the end of the challenge, assuming he doesn't surrender early like he did in a past online poker prop bet against Bill Perkins, Tice's living quarters will change drastically from start to finish.

There are more important aspects of the challenge they'd need to agree upon before the starting date. First off, how will the hotel stay be paid? Tice, for staying so frequently and playing poker regularly at Bally's, would certainly earn some comps for free nights along the way. But on most days, he'd be on the hook for a $45 resort fee plus the regular room rate (and taxes), which fluctuates between $50 to $200 and sometimes even higher (New Year's Eve, for example).

The next issue Tice will face is a state law on lengthy hotel stays. According to Nevada's Common Interest Ownership policy, after 30 days of consecutive stay in the same hotel/motel/resort, the guest then has residency rights, which causes problems for the hotel operators. As such, hotels in Las Vegas limit stays to a maximum of 28 days.

So every 28 days, Tice will likely be required to check out of Bally's, taking all of his belongings with him downstairs, and then check back into the hotel later that day or the following day, which could be quite a nuisance.

The bet isn't yet official but the poker community appears to be somewhat intrigued by such a wild challenge. Who doesn't love a goofy prop bet with $100k on the line?

"GD Landon! I love & hate you for considering this. Listen, minimum - & I mean minimum - is $250K for him to even attempt this amidst his current biz obligations. I feel like Im failing as a mentor & advisor . I also blame @berkey11 just cause hes like a legal guardian," @TomWheaton tweeted.

"I will bet 1million of my money to 100k of someone else that I can do this bet escrow my million not a problem this is not a joke my friends no I will do it thanks," @NelsonLaffey claims.

"Thats torture dont do it," vlogger Ryan Depaulo advised.

"He is either drawing dead or very -EV. I lived in Borgata for like 3 months one time and I can tell you cabin fever is very real. I would rather do the 30 day bathroom bet," @Niko_Platis wrote.

"Make sure your room's AC filters are inspected for mold or else you risk a lot of health issues down the line. Also would negotiate to have one of those semen black light inspections come through and have it cleaned professionally for the day after you win," Matt Salsberg joked.

Tice, who has $562,000 in live tournament cashes according to Hendon Mob and has been hyped as an up-and-coming poker star the past couple of years, would have to limit his poker action to Bally's for the next year. That means only low-stakes poker outside of the WSOP and online play.

Although he'd mostly be stuck playing $1-$3 no-limit hold'em games at Bally's, doing so would help him rack up comps for free meals and rooms throughout the year. Food options inside the connected Bally's and Paris casinos are plentiful, and there's always Uber Eats and other food delivery services, so he shouldn't have any problems with nutrition. But it appears he isn't going to be interested in the deliciously amazing cake machine within the Paris halways.

David Williams had initially offered an extra $10,000 to the prop bet if Tice were to eat one slice of cake from the machine per day. The slices are quite large and cost $8, which comes out to $2,920 over a full year, meaning it would technically be a $7,180 prop bet. It appears this wager will never take place given Tice's lack of need for sweets.

Veronica Brill offered up a separate, and perhaps more difficult, challenge, if anyone is looking for some gambling action.

Circus Circus is the lowest end resort on the Las Vegas Strip. It tends to be the cheapest hotel, and for good reason. The building is outdated and we'll just leave it at that. Bally's (soon to be Horseshoe) will soon be undertaking some major renovations that many are excited to see. Tice might get to experience the transformation from start to finish.

The high-stakes poker party that turned out to be a crypto scam – Utah Business – Utah Business

Posted: at 8:09 pm

There are thousands of projects out there. Some are legitimate, and others are not, Young says. He has also been scammed over the years. After accidentally giving infinite permissions to his Ethereum wallet, Young lost $200,000 to a scammer. He has since built approval protocols for people to protect themselves.

Young tries to avoid scammers today by never using hot wallets, digital wallets that are always connected to the internet and allow users to store, send, and receive crypto tokens. Instead, he uses a hard wallet, a key that looks like a USB stick and stores account information. He says it adds a second layer of security because you must click a button on the stick and confirm on your computer to complete a transaction.

Young now protects himself by never using phones for crypto trades and instead relies on a dedicated crypto computer used for nothing elsenot even email. He wont connect to unknown websites or click onto sites from links, either. A lot of times, youll get a message on social media, and you connect your wallet to it, and they steal all your money, Young says.

Young has also heard of people who go to online forums to seek help with their crypto wallets, where scammers offer that help and say they need the seed phrase of others wallets. This phrase comprises 12 to 24 words that allow users to restore their crypto wallets. With it, the scammers take all their money.

Another of Youngs rules is that he takes all emotion out of any deal and vets crypto deals like any other startup. He wants to know the real people behind the project and ensure they have plenty of experience in tech or crypto. I ask whether what theyre building has actual functionality in the real world, he says, And I run any investment by my CPA.
