Oceania Championships: Kelsie Youman pumped to be representing Australia for the first time. – The Northern Daily Leader

Posted: June 14, 2017 at 4:38 am

Guyra athletics gun Kelsie Youman set to debut for Australia at Oceania Championships in Fiji.

GREEN AND GOLD: Kelsie Youman is ready to take on Oceania's best.

Kelsie Youman has hit the track and is on her way to reach her peak for the Oceania Championships at the end of this month.

The Guyra athletics star will represent Australia at the meet in Fiji.

For Youman, it will not be the first time she has raced in Fiji, having represented regional Australia last year on the island.

But it will be the first time she has worn the green and gold.

It feels a little strange being the only Armidale athlete in the Australian team, she said. However I am very honoured and proud to have the chance to wear the green and gold which I may never get to do again.

The regional Australia team and Australian team all travel together sand stay at the same accommodation so I should still be spending a lot of time with my training partners which is great.

She will compete in the 800 metres and the 2000 metres steeplechase after posting impressive qualifying times and results at the nationals.

Dedicated to her sport and her studies, Youman is undergoing her HSC but is managing to trainthree days a week in Armidale with coach Jay Stone as well as helping her mother, Nadine, train Guyra athletes every Wednesday.

She also tests her endurance once a week with a longer run and is building up her core strength to be in top shape for Fiji.

Preparation is going well and is finally coming together, she said.

I was scared that I was not going to be able to work my way back up to the fitness level I was in for nationals in time for Fiji but at the moment my times I have been getting at training are the fastest I have ran since I have been in the Viper squad which is a good sign.

This years meet will include more countries than the 2016 event and Youman is set for some heavily contested races.

The competition is slightly different then last year, which was Melanesian, and this year it is Oceanic, she said.

Because it wont be the same competition, Im notpositive what my chances are or how I will go placing wise.

However, I am feeling fit and healthy and my training is going well so I am aiming to get PBs in my races which I believe I can achieve.

She hit her peak for the nationals this year and was on her way to a podium finish in the 800mwhen she stumbled and fell.

She is ready to ramp it up in Fiji and achieve her personal best time in the 800m.

Because I fell at nationals, I didnt get to see the time I could have gotten with the training that I had put in, she said.

So to be able to complete a full race, full out to get a PBand see what I am capable of, would be great.

Forthe athletes, the competition isnt the only attraction it is also a chance to meet other like-minded young stars and explore another country.

I have been very excited about heading over to Fiji this year and am looking forward to competing, Youman said.

I'm again looking forward to meeting new people, not only from other countries but also from within Australia as I only know very few people that are in the Australian and Regional Australian teamthis year.

With the weather in Fiji a bit warmer than Guyra, she will headover on June 26,a few days prior to the opening ceremony, to adjust.

Youman said behind all her success is adedicatedteam of people.

I would again like to thank my family and everyone else who supports me. I appreciate it a lot, she said.

Also my mum, who does everything for me and supports everything I do.

And of course I would like to thank Jay Stone for everything that he does for myself as well as all the other athletes he coaches.

He is truly amazing and I wouldnt have the opportunities I have doing the things that I am without him.

Victory for Australian young guns at 2017 Oceania Championships – Australian Olympic Committee

Posted: June 12, 2017 at 8:31 pm

EQUESTRIAN: Australias Young Rider team cruised to a comfortable victory in the CCI2* Young Rider leg of the 2017 Oceania Championships yesterday at the Melbourne International 3 Day Event.

The team of four women including Gemma Tinney, Shenae Lowings, Olivia Barton and Tayah Andrew went into the final show jumping phase with a dominant lead and they maintained their strong position right until the very end to win by 65 penalties.

Three of the four riders jumped clear in front of a packed crowd at Werribee Park and proved they each have exciting futures and could one day grace the world stage for Australia.

We are really proud of the guys not only today but all this week. Under the leadership of Will Enzinger the team including reserves have prepared really well as a group,"said Equestrian Australias High Performance Director Chris Webb.

All three phases have been a standout and a real testament to the future talent of eventing in this country.

Off the horse the guys have become a really close-knit group and this has translated to their performance in the saddle.

The group has been extremely well supported by their families and support networks who have all rallied together, said Webb.

Gemma Tinney (45.70) finished the competition on her dressage score and secured second in the overall standings behind NSW rider Andrew Barnett (41.90).

Tinney gave huge credit to her Warmblood x Thoroughbred mare Annapurna for the result.

The mare has been so good. She still surprises me every event and we have a great partnership and I enjoy every moment I sit on her, Tinney said.

She also praised her Oceania Championships team mates.

I think we work really well as a team and we bonded well and have established great friendships out of this.

Shanae Lowings was 4th placed overall (51.60), Olivia Barton 5th (51.90) and Tayah Andrew finished 11th (59.30) on her talented grey gelding Silver Force that travelled all the way across from Western Australia.

Webb commended the Young Rider team on the preparation of their horses for this weeks event.

All horses came into the competition extremely well conditioned and ready for the task at hand, he said.

The final results can be viewed HERE>>>

In the senior ranks the Australians were unable to beat a strong New Zealand contingent of riders that ventured across the Tasman this year.

Jock Paget and Angus Blue won the CCI3* class (46.90) and his team mate Samantha Felton was second (49.20).

Stuart Tinney was the highest finishing Australian representative rider in fifth with War Hawk (53.60). Reserve rider Rohan Luxmoores performance to end in 7th position was encouraging.

Final results can be viewed HERE>>>

Sam Lyle and his team were presented with some challenges throughout the weekend and although we are disappointed with the results this gives us something to work on with the group going forward, said Webb.

Future talent both horse and rider in this country has proven that the Eventing community in Australia is really making a mark.

Future stars in force at Oceania Championships – Australian Olympic Committee

EQUESTRIAN: Australias Oceania Championships Young Rider Team continued to impress on cross-country day at Melbourne International 3 Day Event.

Going into yesterdays second phase with only a narrow lead over the New Zealand team, they managed to strengthen their hold on the prestigious contest thanks to a superb riding display led by Gemma Tinney.

The 19-year-old and her super fit mare Annapurna were the last combination out on the course and they rocketed around to finish clear and well within time.

The effort pushed her into second place overall (45.70) behind NSW rider Andrew Barnett (41.90).

Her team mate Shenae Lowings also rode strongly and is now sitting third in the overall individual standings (47.60). Olivia Barton is 8th after finishing on 51.90 penalties and Tayah Andrew is 14th (59.3).

Former Australian Olympic Eventing coach and Equestrian legend Wayne Roycroft was highly impressed with what he witnessed from the Young Rider team at Werribee Park today.

Gemma Tinney is still inexperienced and she is an excellent young rider, Roycroft said.

I was very impressed with the whole lot of that team, thats where our future is, he added.

Its a different story for Australias Senior Oceania Championships Team, who are trailing the Kiwis after cross-country day.

See Saturday's results HERE >>>>

New Zealands Jock Paget (46.90), Virginia Thompson (47.10) and Samantha Felton (49.20) currently fill the top three positions with last years CCI3 * winner Stuart Tinney and his big grey Warmblood War Hawk the highest placed Australian representative rider 5th (52.60).

Hazel Shannon fell at the sixth fence and were eliminated. Both her and Clifford did not suffer any major injury.

Whilst they might be behind the Kiwis overall, Roycroft commended the Australian selectors decision to give some new names a chance in a representative team this weekend.

I think the fact that the Australian team selectors decided to put in unproven combinations that are young and looking forward to the future is a really good idea.

The Kiwis will be hard to beat this time but our riders will gain great experience from the competition and being in a team situation, Roycroft said.

Cruise prices for Oceania Cruises have doubled on certain sailings in the aftermath of the Brexit vote, the lines senior vice-president has revealed.

Bernard Carter, who is also managing director EMEA, told agent partners during a ship visit onboard Nautica in Southampton last week that Brexit had caused a range of issues. We are selling some cruises at double the price we did last year partly because of Brexit and partly because of changes in strategy on our part.

Later speaking to TTG, Carter said Oceania was one of the first to break ranks and raise prices following the referendum result last June. [After the vote], any brand priced in US dollars experienced an immediate change. We made a move in September to realign to the new exchange rate And in some circumstances we are selling at double the price rate compared with last year.

It comes after Carter admitted the line had been forced to drop prices in the UK to attract British passengers and fill ships following a slump in demand from the US last year, as Americans shied away from Europe amid fears over terrorism.

Last year we attracted lots of new British and European guests to the brand... We had to the market was very suppressed because the Americans werent coming to Europe.

He added however that despite the price fall last year, Oceania prices were now higher than in 2015.

Theres no denying that 2017 is a challenging year but our revenue yield per day is significantly up year-on-year. That is in part thanks to our trade partners. This time last year we had 88 sailings on special offer, today we have a quarter of that, he added.

When we launched in the UK in 2005, we were cheaper than the US. Now we are heading towards the same levels on the whole as they are.

Carter also said Oceania was unlikely to follow sister line Norwegian Cruise Line in introducing all-inclusive fares.

The line already offers free unlimited internet onboard in addition to its OLife Choice programme, which enables guests to choose from free shore excursions, a free house beverage package or a shipboard credit. Carter said: We have set ourselves aside to be the cruise line of choice.

Early last year we introduced OLife, as we felt that people need choice.

I would never say never [regarding all-inclusive], as we listen to our customers, but the message we get is that they like their freedom.

Oceania Healthcare Limited (NZSE:OCA) Company Valuation & Investor Review – JCTY News

Posted: June 8, 2017 at 11:35 pm

Oceania Healthcare Limited (NZSE:OCA) has a Q.i. Value of 53.00000. The purpose of the Q.i. Value is to help identify companies that are the most undervalued. Typically, the lower the value, the more undervalued the company tends to be. The Q.i. Value ranks companies using four ratios. These ratios consist of EBITDA Yield, FCF Yield, Liquidity, and Earnings Yield.

Checking in on some valuation rankings, Oceania Healthcare Limited (NZSE:OCA) has a Value Composite score of 70. Developed by James OShaughnessy, the VC score uses five valuation ratios. These ratios are price to earnings, price to cash flow, EBITDA to EV, price to book value, and price to sales.

The VC is displayed as a number between 1 and 100. In general, a company with a score closer to 0 would be seen as undervalued, and a score closer to 100 would indicate an overvalued company. Adding a sixth ratio, shareholder yield, we can view the Value Composite 2 score which is currently sitting at 65.

Oceania Healthcare Limited (NZSE:OCA) has a current ERP5 Rank of 12232. The ERP5 Rank may assist investors with spotting companies that are undervalued. This ranking uses four ratios. These ratios are Earnings Yield, ROIC, Price to Book, and 5 year average ROIC. When looking at the ERP5 ranking, it is generally considered the lower the value, the better.

Looking at some alternate time periods, the 12 month price index is 1.05063, the 24 month is 1.05063, and the 36 month is 1.05063. Narrowing in a bit closer, the 5 month price index is 1.05063, the 3 month is 1.05063, and the 1 month is currently 1.05063.

Watching some historical volatility numbers on shares of Oceania Healthcare Limited (NZSE:OCA), we can see that the 12 month volatility is presently 0.000000. The 6 month volatility is 0.000000, and the 3 month is spotted at 0.000000.

Following volatility data can help measure how much the stock price has fluctuated over the specified time period. Although past volatility action may help project future stock volatility, it may also be vastly different when taking into account other factors that may be driving price action during the measured time period.

We can now take a quick look at some historical stock price index data. Oceania Healthcare Limited (NZSE:OCA) presently has a 10 month price index of 1.05063. The price index is calculated by dividing the current share price by the share price ten months ago. A ratio over one indicates an increase in share price over the period. A ratio lower than one shows that the price has decreased over that time period.

Nations of Nineteen Eighty-Four – Wikipedia

Posted: June 6, 2017 at 6:37 am

Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia are the three fictional superstates in George Orwell's satirical dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

The history of how the world evolved into these three states is vague. They appear to have emerged from nuclear warfare and civil dissolution over 20 years between 1945 (the end of World War II) and 1965. Eurasia was likely formed first, followed closely afterwards by Oceania, with Eastasia emerging a decade later, possibly in the 1960s.

Oceania is the superstate where protagonist Winston Smith dwells. It is believed to be composed of the Americas, the British Isles (called "Airstrip One" in the novel), Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, and southern Africa below the River Congo. It also controlsto different degrees and at various times during the course of its perpetual war with either Eurasia or Eastasiathe polar regions, India, Indonesia and the islands of the Pacific. Oceania lacks a single capital city, although London and apparently New York may be regional capitals. In the novel, Emmanuel Goldstein, Oceania's declared public enemy number one, describes it in the fictional book The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism as a result of the United States having absorbed the British Empire. Goldstein's book also states that Oceania's primary natural defence is the sea surrounding it.

The ruling doctrine of Oceania is Ingsoc, the Newspeak neologism for English Socialism. Its nominal leader is Big Brother, believed by the masses to have been the leader of the revolution and still used as an icon by the Party. The personality cult is maintained through Big Brother's function as a focal point for love, fear, and reverence, more easily felt towards an individual than towards an organization.

The unofficial language of Oceania is English (officially called Oldspeak), and the official language is Newspeak. The restructuring of the language is intended to eliminate unorthodox political and social thought, by eliminating the words needed to express it.

The society of Oceania is sharply stratified into three groups: the small ruling Inner Party, the more numerous and highly indoctrinated Outer Party, and the large body of politically meaningless Proles. Except for exceptions such as Hate Week, the proles remain essentially outside Oceania's political control and are placated by trivial sports and other entertainment; the Thought Police manage any Proles socially aware enough to be a problem.

Oceania's national anthem is Oceania, Tis For Thee which, in one of the three film versions of the book, takes the form of a crescendo of organ music along with operatic lyrics. The lyrics are sung in English, and the song is reminiscent of God Save the Queen and My Country 'Tis of Thee.

Even the names of countries, and their shapes on the map, had been different. Airstrip One, for instance, had not been so called in those days: it had been called England, or Britain, though London, he felt fairly certain, had always been called London.[1]

Like Europe as a whole, Britain was hit by atomic weapons in the conflicts before the revolutions in Oceania and then elsewhere. One British town, Colchester, is referenced specifically as having been destroyed; flashbacks to Smith's childhood also include scenes of Londoners taking refuge in the city's underground transit tunnels in the midst of the bombing.

It is stated that Eurasia was formed when the Soviet Union annexed the rest of continental Europe, creating a single polity stretching from Portugal to the Bering Strait. Orwell frequently describes the face of the standard Eurasian as "mongolic" in the novel. The only soldiers other than Oceanians that appear in the novel are the Eurasians. When a large number of captured soldiers are executed in Victory Square, some Slavs are mentioned, but the stereotype of the Eurasian maintained by the Party is Mongoloid, like O'Brien's servant, Martin. This implies that the Party uses racism to avert sympathy toward an enemy.

According to Goldstein's book, Eurasia's main natural defence is its vast territorial extent, while the ruling ideology of Eurasia is identified as "Neo-Bolshevism", a variation of the Oceanian "Ingsoc".

Eastasia's borders are not as clearly defined as those of the other two superstates, but it is known that they encompass most of modern-day China, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. Eastasia repeatedly captures and loses Indonesia, New Guinea, and the various Pacific archipelagos. Its political ideology is, according to the novel, "called by a Chinese name usually translated as Death-worship, but perhaps better rendered as "Obliteration of the Self". Orwell does not appear to have based this on any existing Chinese word or phrase.[2]

Not much information about Eastasia is given in the book. It is known that it is the newest and smallest of the three superstates. According to Goldstein's book, it emerged a decade after the establishment of the other two superstates, placing it somewhere in the 1960s, after years of "confused fighting" among its predecessor nations. (At the time of writing, the victory of Mao Zedong's Communists in the Chinese Civil War was not yet taken as a foregone conclusion. The Korean War had also not yet occurred, but Korea was already being administered by two competing governments. Japan was still under military occupation and, at least until shortly before Orwell completed the book, by several different powers. Power in the real life nations that make up the fictional Eastasia was, therefore, very much in flux). It is also said in the book that the industriousness and fecundity of the people of Eastasia allows them to overcome their territorial inadequacy in comparison to the other two powers. At the time Orwell wrote the book, East Asians, including the Japanese, all had birth rates higher than those of Europeans.[citation needed]

The "disputed area", which lies "between the frontiers of the super-states", is "a rough quadrilateral with its corners at Tangier, Brazzaville, Darwin, and Hong Kong".[3] This area is fought over during the perpetual war among the three great powers, with one power sometimes exerting control over vast swaths of the disputed territory, only to lose it again. The reason three super-countries seek to control this area is to harness the large population and vast resources within the region. Control of the islands in the Pacific and the polar regions is also constantly shifting, though none of the three superpowers ever gains a lasting hold on these regions. The inhabitants of the area, having no allegiance to any nation, live in constant slavery under whichever power controls them at that time.

Eastasia and Eurasia fight over "a large but fluctuating portion of Manchuria, Mongolia, and Tibet".

At one point during the novel, Julia procures tea to share with Winston, and remarks that she thinks Oceania recently captured India (or perhaps parts of India) but such "control" is usually transient.

The world of Nineteen Eighty-Four exists in a state of perpetual war among the three major powers. At any given time, two of the three states are aligned against the third; for example Oceania and Eurasia against Eastasia or Eurasia and Eastasia against Oceania. However, as Goldstein's book points out, each Superstate is so powerful that even an alliance of the other two cannot destroy it, resulting in a continuing stalemate. From time to time, one of the states betrays its ally and sides with its former enemy. In Oceania, when this occurs, the Ministry of Truth rewrites history to make it appear that the current state of affairs is the way it has always been, and documents with contradictory information are destroyed in the memory hole.

Goldstein's book states that the war is not a war in the traditional sense, but simply exists to use up resources and keep the population in line. Victory for any side is not attainable or even desirable, but the Inner Party, through an act of doublethink, believes that such victory is in fact possible. Although the war began with the limited use of atomic weapons in a limited atomic war in the 1950s, none of the combatants use them any longer for fear of upsetting the balance of power. Relatively few technological advances have been made (the only two mentioned are the replacement of bombers with "rocket bombs" and of traditional capital ships with the immense "floating fortresses"). Examples of both of these technologies had been developed in the closing stages of World War IIthe V2, the ice aircraft carrier and the floating harbour.

Almost all of the information about the world beyond London is given to the reader through government or Party sources, which by the very premise of the novel are unreliable narrators. Specifically, in one page Julia brings up the idea that the war is fictional and that the rocket bombs falling from time to time on London are fired by the government of Oceania itself, in order to maintain the war atmosphere among the population. The protagonists have no means of proving or disproving this theory. However, during preparations for Hate Week, rocket bombs fell at an increasing rate, hitting places such as playgrounds and crowded theatres, causing mass casualties and increased hysteria and hatred for the Party's enemies. War is also a convenient pretext for maintaining a huge militaryindustrial complex in which the state is committed to developing and acquiring large and expensive weapons systems which almost immediately become obsolete and require replacement. Finally, according to Goldstein's book, war makes handing over power to a small caste easier, and gives pretext to do so.

Because of this ambiguity, it is entirely possible that the geopolitical situation described in Goldstein's book is entirely fictitious; perhaps the Party controls the whole world, or possibly its power is limited to just Great Britain as a lone and desperate rogue nation using fanaticism and hatred of the outside world to compensate for political impotence. It is also possible that a genuine and large-scale resistance movement exists, or that Oceania is indeed under a large-scale attack by outside forces.

Oceania Rugby assists unions "to do things better" – Matangi Tonga

Posted: June 5, 2017 at 7:51 am

Representatives of Oceania Rugby gathered in Nukualofa last week, 30-31 May for the 2017 Annual General Meeting and a Leading RugbyWorkshop.

Bruce Cook, Rugby Services Manager for Oceania and World Rugby, said that the two days Leading Rugby Workshop will lead participants to look at how to assist unions to do things better that is why we use the term LeadingRugby.

First on the agenda was an Olympic solidarity session. Solidarity has a lot of funds that can be access by a lot of unions around the world. So we are trying to make sure Oceania Unions are right up to speed on what they can apply for. The executive staff of Oceania Rugby will support them in their application, hesaid.

The fact that a national team from Oceania, Fiji, won the first Olympic Gold Medal in rugby in the Olympic is a boost for the development of rugby inOceania.

A workshop on the development of womens rugby, and a session on funding from Australia and New Zealand for the Pacific was held on the final day of themeeting.

The first gold medal for the Womens Sevena-side in the Olympic was won by a team from Oceania, Australia, proof of the high standard of rugby inOceania.

Other things the workship looked at was players welfare. Players welfare is key for the game . . . it is not just on concussion, it is also psychological welfare. We are all here for the players. If it was not for the players, administrators like us would not be here. We need to make sure that the players are well lookedafter."

Bruce said that the election of executive members of Oceania Rugby is held every four years, but at this years AGM they would elect only a newtreasurer.

The Oceania Rugby Executive members are elected by the representatives of Oceania Rugbys 15 MemberUnions.

He said the session on constitutions was also on the programme. We have done some work in Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, and we are currently working on Samoa andFiji.

Bruce stressed that it is vital for Oceania Rugby during the next few years to get their constitutions up tospeed.

The Current Executive Membersare:

Brent Andersonf(NZL),Secretary

Ansrew Larratt (AUS),Treasurer

Reremoana MOekaa (COK), ExecutiveMember

Cathy Wong, Non-elected WomensDirector

Aloma Johansson, Non-elected IndependentDirector.

Oceania Rugby has 15 members. The 14 Full Members and one Associate Member of Oceania Rugby are: American Samoa Rugby Union, Australian Rugby Union, Cook Islands Rugby Union, Fiji Rugby Union, New Caledonia Rugby Union, New Zealand Rugby, Niue Rugby Union, Papua New Guinea Rugby Union, Samoa Rugby Union, Solomon Islands Rugby Union, Tahiti Rugby Football Union, Tonga Rugby Union, Tuvalu Rugby Union, Vanuatu Rugby Football Union and Wallis and Futuna RugbyUnion.

Bruce said that the group was known as the Federation of the Oceania Rugby Union, but since the International Rugby Board changed its name to World Rugby two years ago, they also decided to change their name to OceaniaRugby.

We want to go from the regulation side of the game to inspiration, and that is one of the reasons for the name change to WorldRugby.

Bruce manages World rugby Service for Oceania, the Oceania Rugby, with links to the Oceania RugbyBoard.

Oceania Rugby, based in Sydney, Australia is staffed through a partnership between World Rugby and Oceania Rugby which ensures a coordinated delivery of Rugby programs to the Member Unions of the region. The work of the staff is guided by the Oceania Rugby Strategy which was approved by the Oceania Rugby Member Unions at its 2015 Annual GeneralMeeting.
