That movie where Russell Crowe plays an exorcist might have … – PC Gamer

Posted: May 18, 2023 at 1:22 am

The Pope's Exorcist starring Russell Crowe is another one of those ambient movies for me, something whose ads I'll see on Instagram in between lifting videos, ads for nootropics, pictures of modded Game Boys, and ads for meal prep services. Seriously, like a lot of the stuff on streaming these days, it looks like a fake movie from the Simpsons or 30 Rock, though it does look like they've got a Dragon Age fan or two on the crew.

I first noticed the swap by way of Kelgrid (opens in new tab) and Fleur Bleue (opens in new tab) on Twitter, though WhyNow Gaming (opens in new tab) points out that xMoonxCakex (opens in new tab) on the Dragon Age subreddit clocked this even earlier. It looks like, in the course of his regular exorcising, Russell Crowe exercises his right to check out a spooky crypt tied to the Spanish Inquisition. You can tell it's the Spanish Inquisition because that's their symbol chiselled on the wall, only they actually put the symbol of the Dragon Age Inquisition up there.

Although the names may sound the same, the Dragon Age Inquisition was an (arguably) heroic organization that saved Thedas from the predations of the evil Corypheus, a primeval Tevinter magister who attempted to seize the throne of God. The Spanish Inquisition was an outgrowth of a long-standing Papal institution that was hijacked by the famous monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, to ethnically cleanse their newly reconquista-d nation and consolidate their power. It mostly persecuted Spain's remaining Jews and Muslims while torturing people who understood that cleanliness helps prevent the spread of disease (we called them witches back then).

Kotaku theorizes that this was a result of someone Googling "Inquisition symbol" and Dragon Age's distinctive sword-and-eye being the first result, and honestly? That's pretty plausible, just look at a screenshot of the results (from incognito mode no less!) down below. Aside from the cheeky Warhammer 40K one, it's "oops, all Dragon Age." But I want to give the film's production more credit. Surely some nerdy set designer slipped this in deliberately? Whatever the case, the lines between reality and fiction continue to blur, with portions of real-life European history infected and replaced with one of Canada's greatest cultural exports.

We tried the new soft drink called ‘g-spot’ by Gillian Anderson – Metro.co.uk

Share this article via facebookShare Share this article via whatsapp Share this article via messenger A cheeky launch we're here for (Picture: G Spot)

Beauty launches from celebs certainly aren't out, but drinks seem to be the new way in.

KSI has teens hooked on Prime, Kylie has her own brand of wine, and now Gillian Anderson has launched a soft drink line - cheekily called G Spot.

Said to be a middle ground between what tastes good and what's good for your body, G Spot comes in three varieties: Soothe, Lift and Protect.

'Need help finding your G Spot? Try our magnificent threesome, twice!' the site reads.

Newly available to buy online, the brand was created during the pandemic when Gillian realised she drank too many high sugar caffeinated beverages.

The Sex Education star said: 'I've had a serious soft drink habit for the past 20 years, and I don't drink enough water.

'I know sugar and caffeine are not good for me, but I haven't found an alternative that has the same effect.

'And although I love the idea of flavoured water, I really don't like the taste of what's out there.

'So, I thought, if what I'm looking for doesn't exist, why don't I make it? Something that tastes great but is natural, hydrating, and full of goodness.'

Enter G Spot: it has adaptogens (plant substances that help the body manage stress) and nootropics (which are thought to boost brain function), but it still tastes 'f*cking good,' in the words of Gill.

The idea is to tap into the wellness industry, without people having to take an 'all or nothing' approach - this is meant to offer the best of both worlds.

Made in the UK with natural ingredients, the sparkling plant based drinks are caffeine free, low in calories, and have no artificial sweeteners.

Of the varieties, there's Lift - a blend of berries, apples, and peppercorn infused with bacopa, theanine, cordyceps, and lion's mane (aka a type of mushroom) - Protect- with meadowsweet, ginger, lemon, and turmeric mixed with peppercorn and chaga, andSoothe - apples, sage, and cornflowers with magnesium, maca, reishi, and ashwagandha.

We gave them a test - here's what we thought.

Soothe: Conrflowers and Sage 'For a blend with no added sugar, Gillians green concoction designed to soothe manages to satisfy my sweet tooth, yet its far more muted than your average apple juice. The drink is understated, dare I say it, a little calming, with subtle floral notes that arent overpowering. Thankfully, you can't taste the mushroom. Instead, think very mild apple mixed with elderflower, with just the faintest whiff of sage. Summer, is that you?' - Rachel Moss, Lifestyle Editor

Lift: Berries and Peppercorn

'I tried the Lift drink, which purports to 'help fight stress, enhance stamina and boost cognition.' Flavour-wise, it was fine but nothing to write home about. It tasted like watered-down apple juice with a hint of berry - the peppercorn in the blend was barely noticeable. Although I could happily drink it, it's not something I'd choose for myself (especially not at 3 a can). As for the effects, while I didn't feel anything earth-shattering, though the G Spot website does say it can take a while for the benefits of daily consumption to show. It's no doubt better for my health than a cup of coffee, but I don't think it's replacing my caffeine habit any time soon.' - Jess Lindsay, Senior Lifestyle Reporter

Protect: Meadowsweet and ginger

'I tried the Protect flavour, and it was just a bit average to be honest. It didn't taste bad, but for a drink called G Spot, it certainly wasn't thrilling either. To my concern, it smelled a bit like mushrooms and tumeric, but tasted like very watered-down ginger. Sorry Gillian! If you're reading this, I am still free on Thursday. If you would like to hang out on Thursday, when I am free, feel very free to respond to this and let me know if you can hang out. On Thursday. When I am free.' - Aidan Millan, Lifestyle Reporter

The G Spot drinks are now available in the UK in a mixed flavour box of six cans for an RRP of 19.99 on http://www.thisisgspot.com.

Aussie nootropics start-up, Yootropics, eyes opportunities in healthy … – NutraIngredients-Asia

Posted: May 2, 2023 at 7:35 pm

Founded in 2022, Yootropics is a spin-off from Biov8 that was specialising in peptide treatments.

Its nootropics supplement range targets cognitive performance and claims to encapsulate clinical range dose for all ingredients in a daily, two-tablet formula.

Speaking to NutraIngredients-Asia, its co-founder Nick Austin said there was a market gap for nootropics in the healthy ageing space:

Currently, a lot of elderly start taking medications when the damage is already done. Its more reactionary health. We feel that theres much more and a better way to address this market in a preventative way to look at natural nootropic formulas that help delay the onset and improve the long-range brain health earlier.

Alzheimers, memory loss and other cognitive issues are so widespread these days when people reach their 50s, but these days they are mostly dealt with by prescribed medications.

This finding had emerged from its collaboration with a registered psychologist specializing in neuro-performance who was already using nootropics to help his patients suffering from anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The team then spent about six months ingredient sourcing and formulating, before rolling out its first product called Brain targeting memory.

Its hero ingredients include patented ingredients like Zynamite and Relora, sage, rhodiola, saffron, and a combination of 11 different nootropics. Its two other products are Focus for concentration, and Calm for anxiety.

Its nootropics' product range were approved by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), backed by its internal clinical trials conducted. The paper will be published later this year.

Austin added that the start-up is in discussions with Australian universities to back up its evidence-based claims for its products. He alsoteased the potential for personalized supplements.

A lot of the research were doing now is in the Quantitative Electroencephalogram (QEEG) technology that is going to assist us in looking at different doses for different individuals. The QEEG allows us to look at the brain activity and categorize the different brains. Then, we can look at how different formulas best optimize the performance of different brain types. We feel there is a big opportunity to have more tailored nootropic formulas to assist with individual brain types.

Yootropics is available for worldwide shipping via its website, and only has an offline retail presence in Australia at wellness clinics, psychology clinics and chemist chains.

It said that it adopts a more discerning distribution strategy due to its price points falling within the mid- to high-range (AUD $95 for single product maximum, AUD $230 for a three products bundle maximum) and its target consumers of high-performance executives.

Austin explained that consumer education goes hand in hand with market acceptance for its products: I guess one of the big hurdles that we have in the market is education to educate consumers that it's not just looking at the ingredients in the formula but making sure they are at the right levels that will actually have some performance.

Typically, you know, consumers will look at the look at the back of the bottle, see some names that they recognize, and they'll buy it on that basis. But if there are very small amounts that wont do anything, it's purely just a marketing stunt.

80% of its revenue currently comes from Australia, but interest has been climbing for export markets in the US, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, UK, and France.

Within Asia-Pacific, Yootropics is eyeing opportunities in Taiwan and China, due to the rising awareness of addressing brain health early in age. It says that overseas expansion is planned in the next year.

The company is currently going through a capital raise to solidify its product development and global distribution strategy.

SmartProtein Rebrands As Nutriv With Expanded Vision On … – Digital Journal

Posted: at 7:35 pm

PRESS RELEASE

Published May 2, 2023

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / May 2, 2023 / Back in 2020, SmartProtein disrupted the wellness space with their comprehensive protein powders designed to elevate and streamline our experiences along our personal health journeys, tossing out tired promises from competing brands in favor of honest, holistic wellness. As over-consumption in nutritional support becomes a growing concern, companies like SmartProtein look to simplify the approach to a balanced body and mind by leading with transparency, reminding us that, when it comes to our health, less is always more. Today, the company has rebranded as Nutriv, a lifestyle movement dedicated to the Marie Kondo method of inclusive health and development that goes beyond mere protein powders.

Upon the release of their hero product, the SmartProtein blend, Nutriv was met with critical acclaim for their condensed approach to nutrition, offering an adaptable support system built with all-natural, vegan ingredients that keep all of their promises. The powders, made with pea-protein, cinnamon, and powerful nootropics, cover the bases from brain power to physical prowess, setting a new standard for wellness and fitness that does everything and more. A recent story from WebMD details in-depth the trouble with over-consumption in the wellness community, and with so many routes and roadmaps unfolding at our feet, it can be difficult to make informed decisions on how to improve the health of our body and mind without exhausting our assets.

Nutriv has expanded their ideology to position their protein blends as supportive artillery to our wellness journeys rather than replacements, and the company's vision for inclusive nutrition lives and breathes in their educational edge, sharpened and cut for community engagement on their website and social media channels. Nutriv offers a platform for personal wellness that informs, educates, and promotes a more objective position on human health, because there is no "one size fits all" approach when it comes to our body and mental wealth, but there is a simplified way of getting back to basics.

As it stands today, conducting a simple Google search for "improving mental health" yields a whopping 557M results, the engagement cone hard at work to elevate the most popular pages. From this vantage point, where can people turn for a condensed solution to their nutritional needs? To support their vision, the company maintains a voice on their website that dives deep into practical wellness techniques--tips and tricks on how to live healthier with ease. One of their more compelling entries dissects the allure of nootropics and their role in achieving a balanced state of wellness for mind, body, and soul. At its core, the goal of Nutriv is to educate and empower individuals to take control of their health and put the power of wellness in their own hands. Their simplified model for balance currently comes in vanilla or chocolate flavors, but the pursuit of a better body and stronger mind goes beyond powders or supplements. Above all else, it's a lifestyle choice.

"Healthy" doesn't have to be hard, and Nutriv is dedicated to redefining our understanding of simple maneuvers and where they work into our wellness routines. The company is a leading force in personal growth and development, because the root of a balanced lifestyle begins from within; a healthy mind begets a healthy body, and the rest is sure to follow.

ABOUT:

Nutriv is a wellness company rooted in simplified nutrition. Formerly known as SmartProtein, the company has recently expanded their vision to include ethos that support a comprehensive, balanced lifestyle for the body, mind, and soul. Their flagship protein blends are designed to strengthen brain health and support our fitness journeys for on-the-go personal development. Based out of Nashville, Tennessee, Nutriv is the latest pioneer in the fight against overconsumption in health and nutrition.

Functioning optimally both mentally and physically is so important especially later in life and Indi Mind helps with both. Whether you want to focus on a project in the afternoon but not suffer from a disturbed nights sleep after another coffee or want to focus and achieve more in your morning workouts, Mind gets my vote. Women are at more than twice the risk of developing Alzheimers compared to men, and we are increasingly recognising that diet and exercise can help you look after your brain. Many of the female executives I see, especially those going through the menopause, find Mind makes a real difference in their performance and ability to function. Dr Adam Carey, chief medical officer

Brain health is critical for women, who are at increased risk of Alzheimers and dementia later in life. Diet and movement play a pivotal role in reducing this risk, and research has shown midlife metabolic health is a powerful predictor of risk and an opportunity for improvement. Drinking Indi Mind before my morning workout is one of the tools I use to increase my workout efficiency with caffeine and polyphenols, and incorporate beneficial flavanols and nootropics for improved brain health. Social Shrooms Have Inspired The Next Wave Of Sober Curiosity – mindbodygreen

Posted: at 7:35 pm

Here's the thing about adaptogens: The best results come from long-term use, and you can't expect a life-changing transformation from a single serving. (We also always recommend speaking with a health professional before adding any functional herbs to your routine.) However, depending on the potency of the product and your own personal stress levels, it is possible to feel a noticeable "buzz."

Namely, if you are stressed or anxious, you'll likely feel it the most, whereas if you're already very engaged in a social setting, you may not notice much of a difference. That's the sole purpose of adaptogens, after allthey help you better adapt to your surroundings and restore balance. Many social shroom products also contain other nootropics (such as kanna, caffeine, and guarana), which may offer more of an immediate effect.

And yes, you could totally consume these functional mushrooms in capsule, tincture, or powder form, but the delivery does enhance the social experience. "You're not going to bring some powder and a frother to mix into oat milk at a party," says Charlotte Cruze, co-founder of Alice. But you could easily break off a square of chocolate or sip on a smoky, mezcal-inspired mocktail (mezcal is certainly associated with community and ritual in many Mexican cultures). "It's something delicious that's shareable, that you want to bring to a party and gives you that ritual," Cruze adds.

The move toward sober curiosity also likely has something to do with itprevious Google research shows "drinking in general decline" among Gen Z.And as more and more nonalcoholic beverages emerge on the scene, brands continue to innovate with sophisticated, sensory blends.

"I think people want to feel better," says Klein regarding the shift toward nonalcoholic spirits. "They're over disassociating. They want to feel more connected post-pandemic and just in general. And that's what [functional] mushrooms do: They turn your brain on and help us connect to other people in a way that alcohol just doesn't."

Kung agrees: "It's a little bit of a boost. You know, nothing too intense where we're out of control. Something we can actually function on," she notes. According to Altneu, many people are feeling more isolated than ever, and "our hearts crave for more real connection." So it makes sense that folks want to engage in rituals that help them stay present and open to receiving wisdom, thus enhancing their social bonds.

And if those rituals can simultaneously support immunity, brain health, and energy levels over time, that's certainly a bonus. It's no wonder folks are becoming more and more curious.
