When moving into land of penny stock trading, one must determine whether the risk-reward ratio is favorable. Penny stocks can be tremendously attractive. Hollywood often shows selling or trading stocks being easy and fun, with millions of dollars earned as profits. Its important to identify that there is considerable risk involved when putting money in penny stocks. The risks list include market volatility, getting stuck with fake shell firms created for the only objective of the pump and dump. For those who are not aware with the term, pump and dump happens where brokers promote the equity until prices rise, then sell the stock, leaving novice investors to bear the loss.

It is a common thing to get caught up in the excitement of penny stock email bulletins. Though the circulars are a helpful means to get ideas, wise investors still perform due diligence on interested stocks. Some penny stock circulars show a disclaimer at the bottom that states something like We are not market advisors, weve got compensation and we may have this stock in our portfolio. Further study must be carried out to find out if a firm actually has businesses or is simply a home office.

Many a times, when a promotional plan is designed, there are big shareholders offloading shares they might have bought long ago, waiting for an opportunity to recoup their investments. It never indicates that these firms termed as fake arent good options for short-term trading. If you have disposable money that you can put in use to make a quick trade, what a firm does is less significant than recording a win on a trade. In such a scenario, things like stock promotions are advantageous for shareholders as they throw more light on a dark or defunct firm.

Look at a promotion last year of Cynk Technology (CYNK), which surged all the way to $21.95 from low of 6 cents. The firm itself had very little to deliver as far as fundamentals or operations are concerned, and its shares price was purely led by trading activity.

Fisker Ends Tie Up With Breakthrough Battery Maker Nanotech – InsideEVs

Posted: July 23, 2017 at 1:20 am

Fisker says EMotion battery pack will be the highest energy densityin partnership with LG.

When Henrik Fisker announced the EMotion electric car nine months ago, one of the stronger points of the promised specs was a 400 miles range via:

a new battery technology using graphene, with battery packs produced by Fisker Nanotech, a joint venture between Fisker Inc. and Nanotech Energy Inc.

Fisker eMotion

But as it turns out, Fisker will be using what it calls its proprietaryUltraPack with LG Chem battery cells inside(seeminglylike just about everybody else).

So the question is: what happened with the breakthrough technology?

This cell from LG Chem, its their latest new cell and we have done our own testing of that cell and verified that it will give us the power we need and the capability of fast charging, Fisker said.

And so, theFisker Nanotech joint venture has come to an end.

The official version of the split is that Nanotech Energy doesnt want to focus solely on single project, which would be required FiskersEMotion timeframe.

In order to meet the timetable for Henrik Fisker, we would have had to just focus on that and that alone, Jack Kavanaugh, chairman and acting CEO of Nanotech Energy, who had been named to lead the joint venture, told Automotive News. It wasnt right for us as a company to just focus on one thing.

Kavanaugh said Nanotech is speaking with several companies both inside and outside automotive about bringing its battery technology to market, following independent testing beginning at the end of the summer.

Were focusing on auto, computer, cell phone, solar, aerospace and other things having to do Internet, medical and power tool, he said. They all have slightly different requirements.

Fisker EMotion

Fisker and Nanotech apparently will stay in touch to do business together in the future, but thatwould be now years away, as no new mass-market Fisker models have even been sketched, andthe EMotion is planned for 2019.

There is yet a third chapter toFiskers battery approach; and that is the internal development of a solid state-type battery, but those are still 5-7 years away according to Henrik Fisker:

We are enhancing and expediting our efforts in solid-state technology and will be announcing our recent developments and partnerships on the near future, Fisker said in a follow-up email after a recent phone interview.

The bottom line is that LG Chem can do it now, and they do it the cheapest so fancier tech and radical solutions (for current projects) have been put on hiatus by most everyone in the industry.

Clothes intertwined with nanotech will treat eczema | Horizon: the … – Horizon magazine

Posted: July 21, 2017 at 12:28 pm

As people are getting older, they have more sensitive skin, so there is a need to develop new products for skin treatment, said Dr Carla Silva, chief technology officer at the Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials (CENTI) in Portugal.

This increased sensitivity can lead to painful bacterial infections such as dermatitis, otherwise known as eczema. Current treatments use silver-based or synthetic antibacterial elements, but these can create environmentally harmful waste and may have negative side effects.

To combat these bacterial infections in an eco-friendly way the EU-funded SKHINCAPS project is combining concentrated plant oil with nanotechnology.

Their solution puts these so-called essential oils into tiny capsules that are hundreds of times smaller than the width of a human hair. Each one is programmed to release its payload only in the presence of the bacteria that cause the skin infections.

As people are getting older, they have more sensitive skin, so there is a need to develop new products for skin treatment.

Dr Carla Silva, Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials (CENTI), Portugal

This means that each capsule is in direct contact with the affected skin as soon as an infection occurs, increasing the effectiveness of the treatment.

According to Dr Silva, who is also project coordinator of SKHINCAPS, the nano-capsules are attached to the clothing material using covalent bonding, the strongest chemical bond found in nature. This ensures the capsules survive the washing machine and that they are invisible to whoever is wearing them.

This nanotechnology has a lifespan equal to that of the garment, though the active ingredients contained in the nano-capsules will run out earlier depending on the extent of the skin infection, and thereby on how much of the treatment is released when the clothing is worn.

The nano-capsules will prove invaluable for chronic eczema sufferers and those with high levels of stress, as well as the elderly and diabetics, who are particularly vulnerable to developing such infections.

And its not just essential oils that could be held in the capsules.

The project is also demonstrating the use of nano-capsules loaded with paraffin, a waxy solid with the ability to absorb and release energy, in thermal clothing. The melting or crystallisation point of paraffin is around the temperature of human skin, meaning that the capsules can keep users cool by absorbing energy as the paraffin melts, or warm them up by releasing energy when it crystallises again.

This could not only improve the day-to-day comfort of those less able to control their body temperatures, such as young children, but also help sportspeople to control their temperature better while exercising.

SKHINCAPS is also adding nano-capsules loaded with vitamins and antioxidants to create anti-ageing cosmetics. The shell of this type of nano-capsule will protect their contents from decay due to sunlight exposure or change in temperature, releasing the anti-ageing ingredients only when they come into contact with skin at the right temperature and pH, maximising their effectiveness.

Cosmetics

Another EU-funded project developing nano-cosmetics is PEPTICAPS. They are putting vitamins, such as A, B, C and D, as well as antioxidants, inside nano-capsules to repair skin damage caused by chemical or sun exposure.

Dr Damien Dupin, the head of the biomaterials unit at IK4-CIDETEC, a research centre in Spain, is the project coordinator of PEPTICAPS, and highlights the importance of protecting ourselves in the chemical-rich world we live in.

In everything we are touching now there are chemical products, he said. For example, latex gloves fifty years ago no one used them, now everyone does and some people get redness and itching.

PEPTICAPS nano-capsules are filled with a special cocktail of vitamins that can protect or repair skin when exposed to harmful chemicals, but they dont release them until the conditions outside the capsule require them to do so.

This occurs when there is a change in pH and/or the release of an enzyme when skin irritation occurs. They could be used in creams, lotions and facial masks to help healthy skin recover after chemical or sunlight damage.

The project has been testing the nano-capsules on a laboratory-grown epidermis, an important layer of the skin, made from human skin cells donated by patients after cosmetic surgery. One advantage of this approach is that the skin layer can be irritated in the same way as real skin, providing realistic and validated results, without using animal testing.

The team have been able to show that their treatment is more efficient and penetrates deeper into the epidermis than products currently available in shops. The PEPTICAPSproject expects the first cosmetic products to contain the nano-capsules to be available by 2019, in time to make SKHINCAPS a possible competitor.

Nano-capsules in cosmetics can help prevent long-term bacterial infection and help us look younger for longer, but something called nano-matrices may even help heal skin.

The EU-funded MOZART project aims to use a gel containing nano-matrices to deliver and release treatments only to an affected area. They will be laced with wound-healing drugs andspecial types ofcharged atoms called therapeutic ions that work together in a similar way to antibiotics to reduce the chances of developing antibiotic-resistant infections.

Its project coordinator, Professor Chiara Vitale Brovarone at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, said: We hope that MOZART nano-matrices will offer a significant reduction in the number of non-healing patients.

Much of the work carried out by the project so far has focussed on the development of a wide platform of nano-matrices and on fine-tuning how and when they dissolve to provide the best possible targeted treatment. The MOZART consortium is aiming for a commercially viable product by 2023.

Nanotechnology is increasingly being used in products all around us, from cosmetics and building materials to electronics and toothpaste.

Across Europe, hundreds of institutions are working together to look at how to monitor exposure, manage the risks and advise on what regulations may be needed under the EUs NanoSafety Cluster.

EU funding aims to further the development of safe nanotechnologieswithin aEUR 1.8 billionfund for 2018-2020, which will also support next-generation materials as well as biotechnology and newmanufacturing processes.

International Project Aims to Bring Nanotech Potential Closer – Labmate Online

Posted: at 12:28 pm

The European Commission has approved an international collaborative grant, expected to be in excess of 12million, to Scientists at Swansea University Medical School who will lead the development of tests to prevent the use of animals when assessing safety concerns surrounding nanotechnology a field with potential to enhance crucial aspects of our lives pending proper investigation into associated risks.

Awarded as part of the Horizon2020 scheme, the project, Physiologically Anchored Tools for Realistic nanOmateriaL hazard aSsessment (PATROLS), involves a total of 26 partners spread across 14 countries through Europe and across the globe including Canada, Japan, Korea and the US.

Project lead Shareen Doak, Professor of Genotoxicology & Cancer at the Swansea University Medical School explained: Nanotechnology promises significant scientific, economic and societal benefits, but commercialisation and growth are threatened by safety uncertainties. Several problems currently exist in the field of nanosafety testing: standard non-animal tests are unreliable for nanomaterials, so there is a greater emphasis on evaluating their safety in animals. However animal tests are also unsuitable as they are expensive, time-consuming, and are associated with substantial moral concerns. Additionally, these tests do not predict the consequences of long term exposure on both human health and the environment.

PATROLS will address these limitations by providing state-of-the-art 3D culture models of the human lung, gastrointestinal tract and liver. The project will also deliver advanced testing methods for environmental safety testing and robust computational models that will allow us to more accurately predict human health and environmental safety based on data generated in cell culture, removing the need to test on animals. Exposure under realistic conditions (low concentrations over extended periods of time) will be applied to human cell culture to understand the true risk associated with nanomaterials in consumer products.

The PATROLS project is scheduled to commence in autumn 2017 and will run for 3.5 years.

New 3D Computer Chip Uses Nanotech to Boost Processing Power – Live Science

Posted: July 20, 2017 at 3:24 am

The new type of 3D computer chip layers memory and logic circuits on top of each other, rather than side by side.

A new type of 3D computer chip that combines two cutting-edge nanotechnologies could dramatically increase the speed and energy efficiency of processors, a new study said.

Today's chips separate memory (which stores data) and logic circuits (which process data), and data is shuttled back and forth between these two components to carry out operations. But due to the limited number of connections between memory and logic circuits, this is becoming a major bottleneck, particularly because computers are expected to deal with ever-increasing amounts of data.

Previously, this limitation was masked by the effects of Moore's law, which says that the number of transistors that can fit on a chip doubles every two years, with an accompanying increase in performance. But as chip makers hit fundamental physical limits on how small transistors can get, this trend has slowed. [10 Technologies That Will Transform Your Life]

The new prototype chip, designed by engineers from Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, tackles both problems simultaneously by layering memory and logic circuits on top of each other, rather than side by side.

Not only does this make efficient use of space, but it also dramatically increases the surface area for connections between the components, the researchers said. A conventional logic circuit would have a limited number of pins on each edge through which to transfer data; by contrast, the researchers were not restricted to using edges and were able to densely pack vertical wires running from the logic layer to the memory layer.

"With separate memory and computing, a chip is almost like two very populous cities, but there are very few bridges between them," study leader Subhasish Mitra, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at Stanford, told Live Science. "Now, we've not just brought these two cities together we've built many more bridges so traffic can go much more efficiently between them."

On top of this, the researchers used logic circuits constructed from carbon nanotube transistors, along with an emerging technology called resistive random-access memory (RRAM), both of which are much more energy-efficient than silicon technologies. This is important because the huge energy needed to run data centers constitutes another major challenge facing technology companies.

"To get the next 1,000-times improvement in computing performance in terms of energy efficiency, which is making things run at very low energy and at the same time making things run really fast, this is the architecture you need," Mitra said.

While both of these new nanotechnologies have inherent advantages over conventional, silicon-based technology, they are also integral to the new chip's 3D architecture, the researchers said.

The reason today's chips are 2D is because fabricating silicon transistors onto a chip requires temperatures of more than 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit (1,000 degrees Celsius), which makes it impossible to layer silicon circuits on top of each other without damaging the bottom layer, the researchers said.

But both carbon nanotube transistors and RRAM are fabricated at cooler than 392 degrees F (200 degrees C), so they can easily be layered on top of silicon without damaging the underlying circuitry. This also makes the researchers' approach compatible with current chip-making technology, they said. [Super-Intelligent Machines: 7 Robotic Futures]

Stacking many layers on top of each other could potentially lead to overheating, Mitra said, because top layers will be far from the heat sinks at the base of the chip. But, he added, that problem should be relatively simple to engineer around, and the increased energy-efficiency of the new technology means less heat is generated in the first place.

To demonstrate the benefits of its design, the team built a prototype gas detector by adding another layer of carbon nanotube-based sensors on top of the chip. The vertical integration meant that each of these sensors was directly connected to an RRAM cell, dramatically increasing the rate at which data could be processed.

This data was then transferred to the logic layer, which was implementing a machine learning algorithm that enabled it to distinguish among the vapors of lemon juice, vodka and beer.

This was just a demonstration, though, Mitra said, and the chip is highly versatile and particularly well-suited to the kind of data-heavy, deep neural network approaches that underpin current artificial intelligence technology.

Jan Rabaey, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of California at Berkeley, who was not involved in the research, said he agrees.

"These structures may be particularly suited for alternative learning-based computational paradigms such as brain-inspired systems and deep neural nets, and the approach presented by the authors is definitely a great first step in that direction," he told MIT News.

The new study was published online July 5 in the journal Nature.

Nanotech Security Corp (NTS.V) Technicals Take Center Stage – Clayton News

Posted: at 4:23 am

Nanotech Security Corp (NTS.V) shares are on chartists watch as the stock is edging above the MACD Histogram zero line. Current levels place the share price around1.28, while the MACD indicates a bullish trend.

The MACD-Histogram is an indicator of an indicator. In fact, MACD is also an indicator of an indicator. This means that the MACD-Histogram is four steps removed from the price of the underlying security. In other words, it is the fourth derivative of price.

The base for this indicator is the securitys price. It takes four steps to get from the actual price to the MACD-Histogram. Chartists should keep this in mind when analyzing the MACD-Histogram. It is an indicator of an indicator. Therefore, it is designed to anticipate signals in MACD, which in turn is designed to identify changes in the price momentum of the underlying security.

Taking a further look at some technicals, shares of Nanotech Security Corp (NTS.V) have a 200-day moving average of 1.29. The 50-day is 1.28, and the 7-day is sitting at 1.26. Using a wider time frame to assess the moving average such as the 200-day, may help block out the noise and chaos that is often caused by daily price fluctuations. In some cases, MAs may be used as strong reference points for spotting support and resistance levels. Employing the use of the moving average for technical equity analysis is still highly popular among traders and investors. The moving average can be used as a reference point to assist with the discovery of buying and selling opportunities.

Nanotech Security Corp (NTS.V)s Williams Percent Range or 14 day Williams %R currently sits at -20.00. The Williams %R oscillates in a range from 0 to -100. A reading between 0 and -20 would point to an overbought situation. A reading from -80 to -100 would signal an oversold situation. The Williams %R was developed by Larry Williams. This is a momentum indicator that is the inverse of the Fast Stochastic Oscillator.

Nanotech Security Corp (NTS.V) currently has a 14-day Commodity Channel Index (CCI) of 95.95. Active investors may choose to use this technical indicator as a stock evaluation tool. Used as a coincident indicator, the CCI reading above +100 would reflect strong price action which may signal an uptrend. On the flip side, a reading below -100 may signal a downtrend reflecting weak price action. Using the CCI as a leading indicator, technical analysts may use a +100 reading as an overbought signal and a -100 reading as an oversold indicator, suggesting a trend reversal.

Currently, the 14-day ADX for Nanotech Security Corp (NTS.V) is sitting at 7.39. Generally speaking, an ADX value from 0-25 would indicate an absent or weak trend. A value of 25-50 would support a strong trend. A value of 50-75 would identify a very strong trend, and a value of 75-100 would lead to an extremely strong trend. ADX is used to gauge trend strength but not trend direction. Traders often add the Plus Directional Indicator (+DI) and Minus Directional Indicator (-DI) to identify the direction of a trend.

The RSI, or Relative Strength Index, is a widely used technical momentum indicator that compares price movement over time. The RSI was created by J. Welles Wilder who was striving to measure whether or not a stock was overbought or oversold. The RSI may be useful for spotting abnormal price activity and volatility. The RSI oscillates on a scale from 0 to 100. The normal reading of a stock will fall in the range of 30 to 70. A reading over 70 would indicate that the stock is overbought, and possibly overvalued. A reading under 30 may indicate that the stock is oversold, and possibly undervalued. After a recent check, the 14-day RSI is currently at 52.67, the 7-day stands at 58.53, and the 3-day is sitting at 70.19.
