Online task force closes the net on paedophiles – Bangkok Post
Posted: July 23, 2017 at 1:11 am
A schoolboy came to the police with a broken heart. He was utterly embarrassed but decided to tell police that a video clip of him masturbating had been distributed online and he wanted it removed.
It transpired that he had fallen in love with a beautiful woman he met on the internet.
They developed their relationship through video live chat, he got carried away and pleasured himself without knowing he was being recorded.
He later found he was the victim of a group of transvestites who stole other people's pictures and created fake identities to lure young men like him in order to blackmail them.
An investigation by the Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children (TICAC) Task Force found over 100 such video clips and dozens of victims.
The task force is expanding its investigation into this case, which happened in a northeastern province. The number of teenage victims is expected to reach 200.
At the same time, in another northeastern province, a similar case is being investigated in which an internet user with the identity of a handsome Thai-Singaporean luk krung seduces women he meets online, claiming to be in love with his victims.
The women, some in their 30s, agreed to prove their real love even if it meant they had to have sex with a stranger as requested by the handsome man online.
"Internet crimes against children are modern crimes happening in a complex environment while the crime scenes are also 'in the cloud'. In this era of the digital economy and digital society, people live in the cloud," said TICAC head Tamasak Wicharaya, also an acting deputy commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police.
Each year, about 50,000 downloads and uploads of child pornography are detected in the kingdom by the task force. Such acts are now a crime in Thailand.
On Dec 8, 2015, Thailand amended the Criminal Law stipulating penalties for the possession of child pornography as well as transferring or disseminating such material. The penalties include up to five years' imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 100,000 baht for personal use, and up to seven years' imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 200,000 baht for commercial use.
A month later, TICAC was set up as an ad hoc agency to tackle internet crimes against children, with the support of Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon in charge of national security and the officers of the Homeland Security Investigations attached to the US embassy in Bangkok.
As of June 29, TICAC had received tip-offs and complaints about 129 incidents, with 36 being investigated. Out of these cases, 24 or 67% involve child pornography, eight or 22% involve child sexual abuse and four cases or 11% involve human trafficking.
About a quarter of the total cases have been concluded. Among the 35 suspects, 29 were arrested, five foreigners were sent back to their own countries and one is pending charges.
RELATED CRIMES
Internet crimes against children, besides damaging the victims, are linked to other problems including human trafficking.
Child porn images can be used to blackmail and force victims to do things against their will. Meanwhile, such material could lead to other sex crimes such as harassment and rape.
Among the cases investigated by TICAC, the youngest victim was four years old. The victim, from an ethnic minority in Chiang Mai's Fang district, was held naked and photographed with the offender, who was also naked. Expert analysts said the pictures could be sexually arousing. If disseminated, they could arouse the viewers to commit sex crimes, Pol Gen Tamasak said.
PREDATORS AND PREY
TICAC keeps an eye on paedophiles, especially foreigners who have a history of child sexual abuse and those with a history of watching or producing child pornography, Pol Gen Tamasak said.
When Thai authorities such as the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children receive alerts from foreign agencies, foreigners will be followed more closely. If they are spotted uploading or downloading porn images, police can request a warrant to search their residence and check their mobile phone and computer. If pornographic material is found, they are subject to a criminal lawsuit.
"Some foreigners portray themselves as a saints providing help and giving sweets to children. Once they gain trust of the children, they find a chance to be alone with them and record the victim being abused, then use the media to threaten and further abuse them," he added.
Meanwhile, TICAC looks after vulnerable children.
"Children from poor families or broken homes are the most vulnerable. Once they fall prey to paedophiles, it is difficult for them to get over the experiences and live in society as normal. They will fall back again as a victim," Pol Gen Tamasak said.
Poor children looking for work sometimes end up in the sex industry. Afterwards, they became subject of porn media which the offenders use to blackmail and force them to continue working in the industry, which is a recurring pattern in many cases, he added.
Children from broken homes who spend a lot of time alone with stepfathers are also at risk. They are usually too frightened to speak out if they are sexually abused, he said.
Reports from Khon Kaen and Nakhon Ratchasima revealed that children who have access to the internet are often lured by paedophiles who groom their victims through online communication.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Sex criminals have a higher reoffending rates than other criminals, Eric McLouglin, regional attache of the US Department of Homeland Security, said.
Moreover, just as the criminals have networks to share information and adapt rapidly, authorities have to join hands and get ahead of the criminals and implement preventive measures before new crimes happen, he added.
TICAC, together with its network including NCMEC, detect and locate uploaders and downloaders of pornographic material before going to search, investigate and take legal action against them before they can commit more crimes.
Information from other security agencies also contribute to preventive measures. Last year, after requests to immigration police, 26 Americans were denied entry to Thailand as they had criminal records of child abuse.
"Human trafficking, especially involving children, is the most serious type of crime. The community has a right to know that you are a bad guy. We can locate where you are," Pol Gen Tamasak said. "We are sending a clear message -- Thailand is no longer a safe haven for criminals," said the TICAC chief.
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
Among the cases concluded by TICAC, of the 129 incidents, information of 88 incidents, or 68%, came from foreign agencies including law enforcement, embassies and NGOs providing information about offenders, victims and the damaged parties.
The FBI and the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) have vowed to give full support to Thai police to bring wrongdoers to justice if Americans commit crimes in Thailand.
Eight Americans have been prosecuted and several have been repatriated to serve penalties in the US.
There are factors to consider in deciding whether to send the suspects back to their own country or to have them prosecuted in Thailand. Chief among these is the chance of a successful prosecution, said John Schachnovsky, FBI legal attache at the US embassy in Bangkok.
Fighting such crimes needs collaboration from law enforcement officials, social workers and NGOs as well as the private sector, including telecommunication service providers.
The special teams include victim analysts and digital forensic analysts.
THE ROLE OF NGOs
Many times, NGOs are the first to respond to victims.
Mr Schachnovsky, who has been in Thailand for seven years, said many years ago NGOs and the police did not want to work with each other.
"Their attitude was 'we don't need them'," said the FBI officer referring to the situation in the past.
However, they later realised that they needed each other to successfully put the wrongdoers behind bars and protect innocent people. More NGOs are happy to join forces with the law enforcement team.
Wirawan "Boom" Mosby, the 2017 recipient of the US Secretary of State Trafficking in Persons Report Hero Award, is also an active member of TICAC.
The director of the Hope, Understanding and Grace (HUG) project in Chiang Mai has been providing investigative support through fact finding, case coordination and consultations with various law enforcement, social work, NGO and government officials. She also conducts key forensic interviews with child victims of trafficking and sexual abuse.
She also spearheaded the opening of ACT (Advocacy Center For Children Thailand) House, the first such centre in Southeast Asia, which also has branches in Pattaya and Phuket.
"To make further progress, we need to educate and train people how to properly address these issues," Ms Mosby said in an interview with the Bangkok Post.
"Preconceived ideas and misconceptions have to be replaced with the right type of knowledge so that victims will be encouraged to seek help. They have to be told they are not at fault. We need more people with a heart for victims of sexual and domestic violence. It is pivotal to not prejudge their actions."
SPECIAL TRAINING
Information from the victims is the key to success in an investigation, finding the wrongdoers and the prosecution. However, to get such information from victims and witnesses who have been through an ordeal is not easy, and sensitivity must be kept in mind.
"We want the entire story to come from the victim, not from us. Even if we go into the interview knowing a lot of factual information because evidence has been gathered, we still need all that information to come from the victim. And sometimes with younger children, it's a very difficult task to ask them to do that. So we need to make sure that we ask appropriate questions that a child can understand and can relate to and respond," said Crystal Gregory, forensic interview specialist and national programme manager at HSI.
In the case of forced labour in the fisheries industry, police investigation stalled. Despite the evidence and witnesses' accounts, the police failed to get the victims' accounts. A key Cambodian victim lost his memory and refused to say anything as a result of being tortured on a boat.
It took the police and related experts two years of patience and skills to help the victim regain his memory, and then he finally gave information that led to a successful prosecution, Pol Gen Tamasak said.
From July 10-14, the FBI and the HSI as well as the US embassy organised a special training course on forensic interviewing of child and adolescent victims and witnesses for Thai police, social workers and NGOs including HUG from Chiang Mai, A21 from Pattaya and For Freedom International from Phuket.
The course was on different skills and techniques to talk to victims of crimes such as trafficking in persons, child exploitation and forced child labour to ensure that the victims can feel safe and provide a safe environment to talk about the abuse they encountered, said Ms Gregory, one of the trainers.
It also discussed victimisation, the effects of trauma and how a victim can face different problems throughout the process.
The training also included steps to provide a safe environment in a neutral location, and to make sure that during the interview, the interviewers are not blaming the victims, Ms Gregory added.
It was the same 40-hour basic training provided to the American investigation teams.
The failure to properly interview victims will not only jeopardise the legal case but can also ruin the lives of the victims, especially when they are children, said the Department of Homeland Security's Mr McLouglin.
Interviewing the victims of human trafficking and other forms of exploitation must be based on the principle of a victim-centric approach, he added.
"The interviewers need the skills and interview techniques to make sure that the victims are not re-victimised, and they must be interviewed in a safe place. Otherwise, they might see investigators as bad people and will not open up," Mr McLouglin said.
Mr Schachnovsky said the interview must be in a friendly environment, not where uniformed police are walking around.
Children's advocacy centres, currently available in Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Phuket, are examples of a suitable interview environment.
The interviewer and the victim have a one-to-one interview in a room, which other investigators can watch from another room via video.
"We must keep in mind that the victims must be able to go back into society. Every part of the investigation is very important. If it fails, it will hurt the victims for their whole life," Mr Schachnovsky said.
The group hopes to set the victim-centric approach as the standard for interviews.
BUILDING TRUST, EXPANDING FORCES
While Mr Schachnovsky praised the efficiency and effectiveness that TICAC has shown through its success in less than two years, Pol Gen Tamasak pointed out that it was a small team of committed people who understand each other.
Meanwhile, it has gained understanding and assistance from police from different departments.
They have to strengthen trust and regularly check among themselves to make sure that they are free from bad influences caused by the traumatic nature of their work.
He hopes that the cooperation with NGOs can expand and more children's advocacy centres can be set up in Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Pathom and Songkhla in the near future.
TICAC currently has 40 officials from many departments of the Royal Thai Police. It is in the process of recruiting 130 more, Pol Gen Tamasak said.

I gave up daily vlogging recently. On January 1, 2017, I announced Id start uploading a video every single day. There was no end in mind. Some people have taken on this challenge and lasted days. Some people have lasted years. I lasted a little over 3 months.
The breaking point was a company meetup at Highrise, a simple CRM company I took over from Basecamp in 2014. Our meetup was just a handful of days. But those days were optimized to spend every minute possible together since were all working remotely the rest of the year.
There was a lot of great footage from the meetup, but I didnt have any time to edit fun stories together. Or think about pacing. Add music.
I shot YouTube live videos to at least get something out and keep my commitment to the daily vlog, but my YouTube stats started to tank.
So, I decided to focus on creating better videosones I thought could get the most likes and viewsfor each and every upload. My daily vlog became a barely weekly vlog. Sometimes Id get two videos done in a week. Sometimes none.
And I started disliking the project more and more.
On the first day of my Sophomore year in high school, there was a welcome students event in our auditorium. I was barely paying attention but heard my name called out. Ugh, whats this about? The dread became surprise and then elation when they announced I had the highest grade point average so far of our entire class of 400+ kids. Woah. I was not expecting that.
With this newfound ability to compete at having the highest grade point average, I just wanted to keep competing. Could I be my high school valedictorian in a few years?
That Sophomore year, I was in an AP (Advanced Placement) art class. For some reason the teachers and I did not get along. And I guess I didnt have much talent with the art assignments. It showed in my grade for the class. My hopes for valedictorian were evaporating. It felt awful.
Junior year rolled around, and work just got harder. More tough classes, even less time for school work with all the extracurricular activities I was doing. My goal of having the best grades got worse.
But then I started making better friends with this guy, Al Wyman. Al and I had known each other since basketball camp in grade school. When we found ourselves in the same ethics class Junior year, we began talking more and more.
Those talks changed something in me. Wed banter back and forth about the books we were reading (or supposed to be reading for class) from the likes of Herman Hesse or Camus. And I realized how much I enjoyed our chats about school work. Not the competition for grades. But the act of learning, debate, application.
Why was I so focused on grades, when I should be more focused on the act of education?
In that ethics class, there was a project about the famous Edward Hopper painting Nighthawks: Redraw the painting and write an essay of whose in our version and why.
I experimented with the idea that maybe I could just focus on learning and enjoying the experience instead of getting the best grade.
But there was a catch. There wasnt enough time to thoroughly tackle this project without pulling yet another all nighter. So I just didnt do it when the teacher wanted it done.
After the project was due, I finally had an opportunity to focus on getting the project done and give it my all, learning even more about the original painting, and about the people I felt interesting enough to belong in my version. I turned the project in a couple days later and felt great about what I had learned and produced.
What happened was kind of a surprise. The teacher took it, looking at me a bit quizzically. I said, Sorry I couldnt turn this in on time. But here is my work. I hope I can still get some credit for it.
A few days later he gave it back to me, with a great grade on iteven accounting for the points he took off for turning it in late.
It taught me a valuable lesson. I could still perform well without actually focusing on that as a goal. Really, I needed to take care of myself, and commit to a system of learning, not a goal of the best grades.
My time in highschool got so much better after that. There were multiple projects I started turning in late so I could get more sleep. And I learned so much more in the process.
I still ended up with a really high average when I graduated. I wasnt the valedictorian. I was close, but it didnt matter anymore. That last year and a half of high school was some of the best time of my life, and I got so much out of it.
If I look back at my career, the best moments are when I repeated what I did in high schoolfocus on systems, not goals. If I focused too much on where my startup would be when I wanted it to be there, I was miserable. When I focused on just showing up, learning as much as I could, delivering things our customers wanted on a regular basis, I enjoyed it, and we still got great results.
My first Y Combinator startup from 2006 didnt turn into the mega-success I had envisioned, but became an enjoyable ride that still propelled my career forward and turned into even better and brighter things for others as well.
I had a goal with Y Combinator in 2011 to create a Groupon-sized success. Again I became miserable. Until I instead focused on a system of creating things that met needs I understood well because I had them myself.
That led to Draft, simple writing and version control software. It wasnt the thing I envisioned making in 2011, but the system got me what Id call a pretty wild success.
Now I run Highrise. The founders of Basecamp handed me the reigns when they wanted to spin it off. That was never a goal. How could it be? No one could have made it an intention. But this system of showing up every day and creating new things regularly got me here.
Staring at my YouTube stats was a mistake. Theres so much to getting traction, and so much of it isnt under my control.
What I can focus on is showing up every day. Filming. Editing (when I can). Getting on camera. Trying to find a story from the day even if it doesnt work out.
I sure as hell enjoy it more. And I think I might still get great results. Maybe not what I envisioned at first. But it seems like things have a way of working themselves out.

Wake up to the day's most important news.

Keeper is a no-nonsense password manager that puts the security of your login credentials above all else. However, its lack of automated features may limit its appeal for some.
When you sign up for Keeper, youre prompted to create a master password and select a security question. The latter will be used, along with a verification code andif enabledtwo-factor authentication, to access your data if you forget your master password.
Next, Keeper walks you through a four-step quick start checklist: creating your first record, installing the browser extension, uploading your first file, and enabling two-factor authentication. As you complete each step, the checkmark next to the relevant items turns green.
Keeper's interface isn't fancy but it's easy to get around.
Keeper doesnt automatically capture your login credentials when you sign into a website for the first time. Rather, it places gold lock icons in the username and password fields; you have to click one of these to create a new record. Keeper will prefill the username field with your email address and the password field with a generated 12-character password as if youre creating a new account rather than just a new Keeper record. Youll have to delete these and enter the correct credentials. When you enter your password, Keeper will rate it with a bar that colors red, yellow, or green depending how strong it is.
When you revisit a site, you again have to click the lock icons to access your credentials. When the record for that site open, you must click an arrow icon next to your username and one next to your password to fill each field separately. If youre used to password managers that autofill these fields and autolog you in, these extra steps can feel laborious, even if it is for enhanced security.
Keepers password manager surfaces in the password field as a dice icon any time youre creating a new record, which you can do in the KeeperFill browser plugin or right in your vault. You can generate anywhere from eight- to 51-character passwords using a combination of upper- and lower-case letters, numerals, and symbols.
Keeper's password generator can create up to 51-character complex passwords.
Both Keepers web-based vault and the desktop app display your passwords in a list. Unlike with LastPass and some other managers, Keeper doesnt let you assign logins to folders when its capturing them, but you can do it here by editing the record and assigning it to a folder. You can also audit your passwordsKeeper gives you a strength percentage rating and lets you know if the password has been used for more than one account. Credit cards and personal data can also be stored in your vault and autofilled into web forms when making payments.
Keeper supports password sharing, but, as an added security layer, only with other Keeper users. If you share with a non-Keeper user, theyll get an email with a link to set up an account. It also recently added emergency access, which allows you to grant access to up to five contacts, who can log in in the event you can't for whatever reason.
Keeper is free to use on a single device. To sync across multiple devices, youll need an Individual plan at $30 a year. Family plans cover up to five users for $60 a year.
Despite its bare-bones interface, Keeper offers robust password protection. However, it lacks the automation prized in most password managers, so its unlikely to compete with top tools LastPass and Dashlane. But if youre merely looking for strong security and dont mind being more hands-on with your password manager, Keeper wont disappoint.
If youre looking for strong security and dont mind being more hands on with your password manager, Keeper wont disappoint.

Our system will be able to handle registrations easily: Navin Kumar, Chairman, GST Network – Economic Times
Posted: July 20, 2017 at 3:14 am
In an interview with ET Now, Navin Kumar, Chairman, GST Network , talks about the number of resgistrations, the GSTN website and how it has been designed to handle heavy workload. Edited excerpts:
Navin Kumar: As of yesterday, the total number of new registrations was 7,98,000. This is the number of applications submitted and out of that about 5,30,000 have already been approved. As far as migration is concerned - the number is now well beyond 70 lakhs out of 86 lakhs.
Do you think the real test of GSTN will be in the month of September when everybody starts filing the returns?
Navin Kumar: We are starting the functionality for uploading invoices next week. That functionality will be a very important one because we want all the businesses, particularly those that generate very large number of business to business invoices to come and upload their data on our system. The load on the system will keep on increasing from that point of time and we are ready for it. So whether it is return filing, invoice uploading - our system has been designed to take care of heavy load and we are confident that our system will be able to handle the load easily.
As we understand GSTN is the IT backbone of GST. How will you make sure that all the small traders that have yet not registered will be registering in some more time?
Navin Kumar: The registration depends on the person, so whenever a person wants to register and he has to keep in mind the provision of law which says that within a month of the date, when the liability to register arises, he has to register. Our portal has the functionality of registration open 24 hours so they can come anytime and register themselves.
How do you plan to tackle all the difficulties that might arise with the GST registrations?
Navin Kumar: If a person who wants to register goes through the help files, the user guide that we have put in our portal, we have also put a number of videos and video-based tutorials. If they go through these they will face no problems. I case they do face any problems, they need to contact our helpdesk, which will guide them and help them complete their process.

Photo of new officer Claire Binksy sparks barrage of innuendo
A POLICE force that posted a selfie of a new female recruit on their Facebook page was flooded with saucy comments about her.
Surrey constabulary hoped to attract new recruits by uploading the photo of officer Claire Binksy but instead it sparked a barrage of innuendo.
The post that accompanied the smiling shot stated: Its 10pm and our night turn are starting their shift keeping Surrey safe through until morning.
If the 9-5 is not for you, and youre energised and focused whatever the time of day or night, could you join our police family as a trainee officer?
We can offer a job that mixes the ordinary with the highly extraordinary and definitely isnt your average desk job, and a starting salary of 25k.
But within minutes of seeing PC Binksy, from Egham, Surrey, posing in front of her police car the comments started flooding in.
Dave Davis wrote: Now if only all cops looked like her.
Hugo Teixeira wrote: Take me to jail!!!!
Richard Gibbins wrote: Has anyone done the she can take down my particulars joke yet? I will then.
Ryan McGinty-Bloomfield wrote simply: Sheeessss puuuuurrrtttyyyy. and Sean Graham wrote simply Fit.

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said: As a police officer or a member of the public, featuring on social media does not mean it is acceptable for other people or the media to objectify or subject you to comments based on your gender or appearance.
This kind of behaviour is completely inappropriate and just reflects the immaturity of those posting.

Bhubaneswar: Despite prompt action and implementation of online procedure, irregularities have been made at institute-level in uploading of merit details of students for selection of the e-Medhabruti scholarship scheme of higher education department. This time the government itself has found the irregularities. The government has invited online applications from the students for award of fresh and renewal scholarship under e-medhabruti scholarship scheme and the applications were verified offline by the concerned institution heads. It was found that the marks figured by the institutions is not matching with the original marks obtained by the concerned student, official sources said. However, the government has not distributed the scholarship to the students found ineligible during verification. After finding the irregularities, additional chief GVV Sarma Wednesday written letter to all principals and asked them to upload details of students like income certificate, mark sheets, resident certificate and bank accounts. For the year 2016-17, the list of provisionally selected students was uploaded on the website on 22.05.2017 with instruction to the principals to verify the non-validated applications by 07.06.2017. However, it is a matter of serious concern that less than 15 per cent of institutions have replied so far. Even among the validated cases, it was found that ineligible applicants have also been validated leading to doubts whether the principal had actually verified with due application of mind, Sarma said in his letter. The inconsistencies include marks claimed by students not matching with the marks list given by Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), he pointed out. In order to expedite disposal of e-Medhabruti scholarships to eligible students, the government has prescribed new procedure and asked the principals to follow it. It has been decided that for both the year 2016-17 and 2017-18, the fresh as well as renewal cases, will be authenticated online by the head of the institution or principal of the college. This means no further offline documents will be entertained. The secretary has instructed the principals to collect students details including income certificate, mark sheets, resident certificate, caste certificate (for SC and ST students) and bank accounts and verify as per the e-Medhabruti guidelines. If the application of the student is found valid, then the principals would upload the details of students in the website (www.medhabruti.org). The principals have to authenticate the applications of the students for the year 2016-17 by August 10 and August 20 for the year 2017-18. If any principal or head of the institution would be personally responsible for any further irregularities, the government warned. Earlier, gross irregularities have been reported in selection of applicants and distribution of scholarship to the students. After that, the government has made it online. The government provides `10,000 every year to each engineering and professional degree student and PG Merit students, `12,000 to Special Girl Merit, `5,000 to senior Merit and `3,000 to junior merit students who qualifies for e-Medhabruti scholarship.

Okay, everyone loves a good prank but sometimes people can go just a step too far.
Like this mother, who somehow managed to convince her daughter that her nipple had fallen off after tripping over her cat.
Unbelievable, we know but apparently not to Lauren Farquharson, who fell so hard for her mothers brilliant prank that she attempted to persuade her to put the nipple in ice and head over to A&E to have it reattached. Well, it is practical.
Of course, with a prank like that, you cant hold a straight face for too long but that didnt stop Lauren from uploading the entire exchange to her Facebook page after her mother came clean.
And yes, the exchange is as hilarious as you can imagine.
After being pranked, Lauren saw the funny side, and posted the entire exchange to her Facebook page, where she captioned it: Nightmare when your mums nipple apparently falls off.
Since being posted on 13 July, the post has received more than 13,000 shares and over 3,000 reactions from amused users.
Lauren, who lives in Scotland, told Metro.co.uk that she 100% fell for her mothers prank.
She said: She does prank me a lot but not usually about stuff like this, usually its silly stuff but this one baffled me.
It actually got me really worried because she just randomly text me (we usually speak everyday but I hadnt heard off her all day), so it being a joke didnt even cross my mind.

I was just confused when she said she was joking! I didnt know if she was actually just telling me she was joking because she knows Im a worrier.
Of course, we can confirm it was all a joke and an epic one at that which apparently Lauren mum already knows, as she said: My mum isnt on Facebook so she thinks shes hilarious, most definitely didnt expect it to go this far!

How To Find Inner Balance In The Social Media World – Nidhika Bahl – HuffPost
Posted: at 4:13 am
I am sure you would agree that modern world is always online, and as a result, you are always preoccupied and never really present to your own existence! From your phones that never stop ringing to email inboxes flooded with messages, its hard for you to find peace. You are overwhelmed, tired, and struggling to keep up. You are so caught up in the complexities of your busy lives that its taking a toll on your mind, body and soul. It is the need of the hour to relieve your mind of this constant stress and anxiety! I am sure you are wondering - How can you find peace amidst the never-ending social media notifications on your phone?
Here are few strategies that can help you coexist with technology and yet have inner peace:
1. Create a balanced relationship with technology. Between work, family and friends, you may be online frequently. Your job may require you to use emails, or your friends and family may be texting you constantly. The only way out is to create a relationship with technology that is based on intent. Mindless surfing online can waste your time and completely drain you of all the energy. You must have a definite purpose when you use technology. All of your online actions should have a reason and goal with a clear end in mind. You dont need to read and respond to every good morning, good night and forwarded message sent to you!
2. Dont make social media applications the center of your being. Technology and being connected doesnt have to absorb your entire life. Keep in mind that technology is just a tool. Dont make it the focus of your life. Live with technology instead of for it. Schedule in social media time slots in your daily routine and stick to them. Do not over indulge!
3. Get rid of the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) Syndrome. Its crucial to take breaks from always being connected to everyone through your phone, email, and social media. Dont worry! You are not going to miss out! Take a social media break each week. Set aside the weekends for spending time with family and friends. Disconnect on a frequent basis. Avoid surfing online, sending text messages, or uploading photos when sitting with friends and family. Instead, interact with real people in the real world and create amazing memories and beautiful moments. Inform your connections ahead of time so you dont cause concern when you suddenly disappear. They will eventually get used to you taking weekends and vacations away from social media. They may even be inspired to do the same.
4. Focus on the relevant connections. Do you really need to keep up with every person from your school and college days? Its important to find a balance between keeping up to date with your connections and always being available. Of course, you want to stay in touch, but it doesnt have to be on an hourly basis! You dont need to check your social media accounts for notifications every hour! Try limiting the number of connections in your life to those that are important to you. Although it may hurt some feelings, it may also be a good idea to unfollow some people on social media, so you dont have to be part of their daily saga anymore. You must do what you can to maintain a stress-free social circle.
5. Participate in activities that reduce and relieve stress. A hyper-connected social media world can make you feel on the edge. It can increase stress and anxiety. It can also make you feel that you always have to be available to do everything. Schedule some me time each day! The solitude will give you a chance to reflect, plan, de-stress, and re-energize. Try yoga, meditation, journaling, or keeping a diary. Pursue activities that make you feel peaceful and calm. Whether you hike in a park or dance in your living room, relax and disconnect from the world for a moment.
You can discover inner balance despite living in a hyper-connected social media world. You can move from the turbulence of a busy life towards peace and tranquility. Make these strategies your daily habits and enjoy greater peace.

Google will now let you back up your entire computer for FREE on its servers – Mirror.co.uk
Posted: July 17, 2017 at 4:12 am
Google has a number of apps that let you store your data on its servers . But while Google Photos and Google Docs only host certain types of files, the company is soon going to let you store everything online.
A new service called "Backup & Sync" will become part of the Google Drive service and will allow both Mac and Windows users to store the entire contents of their PC or laptop on Google's platform.
"In the coming weeks, we will launch Backup and Sync from Google, a tool intended to help everyday users back up files and photos from their computers, so theyre safe and accessible from anywhere," Google announced on its official blog post .
The new feature will replace the Photos and Drive uploader on desktops and can also be configured to automatically back up devices you connect to your computer, like SD cards, cameras or your phone. Like the current Drive, you'll be able to access your files from any other device with access to it.
At the moment the feature is only limited to individual consumers - businesses won't be able to take advantage of all the extra free space.
The move comes after the company revealed it will stop serving personalised adverts based on the contents of their Gmail messages . Google has faced plenty of criticism over the years from privacy advocates for reading the contents of emails in order to serve more accurate adverts.
How you feel about uploading your entire computer to Google is something to bear in mind before you take advantage of the new feature.
