Theres a handful of reasons you may have encountered KSI. Long-time fans will remember him as a 15-year-old kid uploading videos of himself playing Fifa to YouTube, where he has since amassed more than 30 million subscribers. KSIs second record All Over the Place is more of the same, in the sense that it, too, is a bumper-to-bumper blending of genres buoyed along by some of musics major-leaguers.

There are highlights on the album, for sure. As with Dissimulation, KSI does well to allow his collaborators to come in and do what they do best in their respective styles. Silly is a confidently swaggering grime track featuring Bugzy Malone. Anne Marie injects some levity plus a sing-along hook into Dont Play With Me. And its very easy to see the nostalgic Craig David dance track Really Love playing on repeat this summer.

At times, though, All Over The Place flails in the absence of a singular distinct voice. Portions of the album feel anonymous a mushy amalgamation that sounds vaguely like all trap-pop in the charts right now. Still, its significant that KSI a relative newcomer who has successfully flipped billions of video views into millions of Spotify streams holds his own among his many, many collaborators. KSI sounds like a musician. He may be able to drop that YouTuber prefix from his name after all.

Willow Lately I Feel EVERYTHING

Back in 2014, Willow Smith and her brother Jaden gave a mind-melting interview in which they discussed everything from theoretical physics to prana energy. I hope this incarnation of Smith sticks around a little longer.

Delhi University authorities Saturday confirmed that admissions to its undergraduate courses for academic session 2021-22 will take place through cut-offs based on merit, like previous years. Registration for UG courses will begin August 2, and the last date to apply is August 31.

Like last year, the admission process will be completely online from registration to fee payment. Approximately 70,000 undergraduate seats and 20,000 postgraduate seats are on offer this year.

DU had earlier said it would most likely conduct admissions through a cut-off list, but that it was also committed to implementing the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET), if it begins this year. The CUCET has now been ruled out this year.

In a press conference Saturday, Chairperson, Admissions, Rajeev Gupta said, Admissions to undergraduate merit-based programmes will be based on cut-offs as per past years practice. The admission branch is working with principals of colleges on modalities for deciding cut-offs so as to avoid over- and under-admissions.

He said the change in criteria for evaluation by the CBSE is not likely to delay the announcement of DUs cut-offs, as their process will remain the same.

As Class XII Board exams could not be held due to the pandemic, CBSE will calculate results using the ratio of 40:30:30 for students performance in classes XII, XI and X respectively.

Acting Vice-Chancellor P C Joshi said registration for postgraduate courses and the DU Entrance Test (DUET)-based courses, to be conducted by the National Testing Agency, will begin on July 26 and end August 21. Admissions for MPhil and PhD courses will follow the same schedule.

From this year onwards, admissions to Bachelor in Physiotherapy, Bachelor in Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Prosthetics & Orthotics, and Masters of Physiotherapy will be done through DUET.

Gupta said that keeping in mind the convenience of students due to the unprecedented pandemic situation, the eligibility criteria and fee structure will remain the same as last year.

Considering the challenges that emerged last year due to the Covid pandemic, this year, for the benefit of the students, the University has decided to retain the eligibility criteria as last year, said Gupta.

The University has also decided that there will be no change in the registration fees for merit-based and entrance-based admissions. Centralised UG admissions will be done through one registration-cum-application form. All departments/colleges will use the same registration-cum-application form for admissions and candidates will not have to fill any other form, he said.

Like last year, sports and extracurricular activities (ECA) admissions will also be conducted completely online, and will be based on certificates rather than trials.

However, there is a slight change this year. Until last year, we had given applicants the option of uploading their certificates for the last three years. This time certificates of the past four years (May 1, 2017 to April 30, 2021) will be valid, said Gupta.

Acting V-C Joshi said the university was doing everything to make the admission process smooth and hassle-free for students.

As part of this, the university has plans to make the admissions website more interactive.

The Admission Branch is planning to organise webinars and upload tutorial videos to help candidates throughout the admission process. Announcement of these webinars will be published on the University website from time to time, said Gupta.

Sanjeev Singh, a member of the admission committee, said all relevant information will be updated as soon as possible on the admission website.

Computer-based help desks in the form of chat bots and emails will also be available 247 to answer queries of candidates, he said.

This past June, Christian Phyfier and his All Star team of developers launched a new streaming company onto the App Store. We had a moment to sit with Christian and get insight into what the vision and overall goal of Scrybe is.

Why Scrybe and why now?

Ive been building the business model for Scrybe for 4 years. Thinking of the perfect solution to the issues that the music industry has been facing since the era of CDs left. The largest issue on the creative side of the music industry is that independent artists & labels have lost the ability to place value on the content they create. On streaming apps, an artists music is licensed and they are told how much they get paid per stream. On youtube an artists videos are licensed and the artist is told how much they get paid per view. Theres no way of understanding how, or why its simply told to them and the artist has no choice but to accept it, or never be heard.

Scrybe is freedom. Back in the day an artist could make an album and charge $10 and sell it out of their trunk and survive. A label could let the artist keep their performance and merchandise revenue because the records could sell enough where things could be a little more fair. Nowadays artists are slaves to touring and shows. Slaves to other forms of revenue or needing a big engine to help them pop through the surface to generate enough revenue monthly to provide for their lifestyle and simply survive. That is what Ive found, a lot of artists, like most people, simply would like to survive by doing what they enjoy. Fame is cool, but if they can pay their bills first, then they can focus on the fame after.

How is Scrybe different?

Scrybe was designed with the artist in mind from the moment it was conceived. Unlike most companies that are thinking about their bottom line and increasing the experience for the listeners and fans, who pay the subscription rates, we wanted to increase the functionality for the artist.

First, artists control how much their music is worth to the audience. Thats the number one thing. Take Drake as an example, if he were to convert his 50 million Spotify monthly listeners, to paying .10 cents a month on Scrybe, he would make 5 million dollars a month. Thats nearly the same pay that other platforms pay for 1.5 billion streams, and to earn that again, artists would need to raise another 1.5 billion streams. Scrybe is recurring regardless of streams.

Second, artists will be able to receive their payouts monthly. Artists need their revenue to survive, pay their bills etc. Waiting for 3 months is not the business.

While there are plenty of other benefits, the last one Ill mention is that we allow direct to platform distribution. Artists can upload their music directly to Scrybe. I owned a distribution service for the last two years, and realized there are so many hidden issues within distribution that artists dont know about, and so we want to be clear and direct with earnings.

You mentioned how all of this works for the artist but what about the listener, are things pretty much the same as other streaming companies?

No, definitely not. With fans we have helped them save money on their music streaming. Other streaming companies charge one flat rate for all the music on their platform. Music that most will never hear.

With Scrybe, fans only pay for the artists or podcasts they want to hear. For as little as $1 someone can have more than 1000 songs. Back to my example, if youre a Drake fan and he places his entire catalogue for .10 cents a month, then you just gained 100 plus songs. If youre not a drake fan and you only want to subscribe to 1 song at .01 cent a month then so be it. If that song gets old, unsubscribe. Its that simple. Similar to audible and listening to books instead of purchasing every book you need.

Lastly, we have focused heavily on the users experience, we promise commercial free streaming for all users. Even the free users simply browse the free music that artists release. The only promotion a user may experience are from songs that we feel the user may enjoy.

Where do you see Scrybe within the next few years?

I see Scrybe expanding big time. I cant say much because its being built as we speak but it will be a leader in the industry, hell It already supports podcasts. But I see us making things back into an open market, where creators are free again. Id love to continue to find ways to allow creators to invest in their financial futures and the entire music industry as a whole.

Whether we needed to chill out, do some work, or get some fresh air, here are the best apps that the Mashable staff used in 2021.

Angi launched in March 2021, but it may be familiar to some. Formerly known as Angie's List or HomeAdvisor, the app connects people with local contractors and home services such as plumbing, landscaping, and electrical work. Shopping for contractors is an absolute pain, but Angi makes the process just a little bit easier, and lets you see real reviews and ratings from professionals in your area. The quotes are free to you, but keep in mind that Angi charges contractors every time they bid on a project.

Every city thinks its local radio station is the best in the world. But L.A. locals might be right. KCRW DJs spotlight both local and international artists, play live shows, and serve as music supervisors for movies and TV shows.

Luckily, anyone around the world can listen to KCRW programming for free with the station's app. What does that get you? The KCRW app features the excellent "Eclectic 24" channel. As the DJs note on air, this is curated by humans, not algorithms and therefore isn't influenced by money from record labels.

The app has been around for a while, but as of this spring, it became compatible with Apple CarPlay.

White Noise Lite is the only app that's never let me down. It isn't new, but it's literally the only app I could not live without. Quite simply, it plays white noises for me a fake AC that drown out outside sounds to aid sleep. The app has been a godsend during a strange year, during which good rest was tough to come by. If you're a light sleeper, its an amazing, simple tool to get a better night's sleep.

I've been using Aloe Bud since 2018, and it's the only app that makes practicing self-care feel like less of a chore. The COVID 19 had a disastrous impact on the economy. It felt as if the economy went into shatter after going through the deadly lockdown. The lockdown was imposed keeping in mind the safety of the citizens and was a need of that time, but the economy couldnt handle the negative effects of it. There were no customers to avail of any service or buy a product, the operations of the businesses were closed. For many of them, the time was so unfortunate that they had to shut down their offices and businesses. With no funds to carry on, closing the business seemed the best option available.

But now, slowly the economy is waking up from the hibernation in which it went during the lockdown. The businesses have started their operations and the customers are now less hesitant to step out of their homes. Many of the startups were started during the lockdown phase but were in the baby stage of ideation, they too have now started receiving funding. The future is uncertain, there is a lot of news that the third of COVID 19 is not far away, so the businesses and startups are transforming themselves in such a way that they are able to function if any uncertainty or unfortunate incident happens again.

New news of the funding has come now. The startup Protonn, has received a funding of USD 9 million as announced on July 16, 2021. The round of funding is undisclosed and was led by Matrix Partners of India. The other participants of the round were O21 Capital, Tanglin Venture Partners, and various angel investors like the co-founder of Flipkart, Binny Bansal, CEO of Flipkart, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, ex-member of Whatsapp, Neeraj Arora, co-founder of Udaan, Surjeet Kumar, and founder of Cred, Kunal Shah.

The funds raised by the startup will be used to increasing the team members by hiring more people, launching theproduct to the market, and for the product development. This news of the funding has come at a time when the startup has introduced its products to its first users in the US, after rigorous months of product development and beta testing.

The startup, Protonn was founded in November 2020 by Anil Goteti, and Mausam Bhatt. Both the founders have a past record of scaling large technology companies. Anil Goteti was at many leadership positions in Flipkart and Mausam Bhatt has a professional history of being the head of product management for Google Commerce(Buy on Google), chief product officer of RetailMenot, and has held leadership positions at Flipkart.

Protonn provides a complete platform for the professionals who are working independently to manage and handle their small businesses online using video marketing, payments, scheduling, and CRM. In other words, it is a digital solution provider for freelancers. Using this platform, independent business people can expand their businesses by creating and uploading powerful and impactful videos of their businesses which then can be shared by potential leads and prospects.

Using Protonn, a business can be launched in less than five minutes. The features provided by the startup are as follows-1. Video Marketing- Using the magic mode provided, various documents like Pdf, Powerpoints can be combined and attached in a video, which can be uploaded to various social media for the clients to see.2. The co-founder of Protonn, Mausam Bhatt made a statement saying that existing video technology in the professional space has not been updated with the changes made by applications like TikTok and Snapchat. He further added that the startup is bringing that change by giving a platform to professional people a way to manage and expand their business using videos.

The Managing Director of Matrix India, Vikram Vaidyanathan, said that the approach of Protonn which is video-first and mobile-first with a superior experience of the customer will change how business can be grown and customers can be engaged. He further said that this is the need for today and the startup is working on it. He remarked that the founders are introducing some unique set of capabilities and Matrix India feels lucky to be a partner with them.

The startup has something new on its plate. We hope that it is able to inspire many new upcoming startups to bring a change.

Prontonn receives USD 9 million of funding - Inventiva

Of late HIKAI, an online educational portal, launched by RKM Ashrama, Sohra, in collaboration with Vivekananda Cultural Centre (VCC), Shillong, has been publicly debated on its pros and cons. Thanks are due to Dushyant Wadhwan, who has gone the extra mile in attempting to dissect HIKAI (albeit superficially), in his letter to this newspaper captioned HIKAI a headache for teachers (ST, 12/07/2021). As an insider and a teacher involved in HIKAI, after giving a serious reading of Wadhwans observations, I feel it is important to put things in clearer perspectives.HIKAI is an immediate and timely response to the sudden halt of normal schooling following the onslaught of the Covid pandemic in 2020. RKM Ashrama Sohra, has over 10,000 students under its wings and it is imperative that these young minds should not suffer collateral damage as far as their education is concerned. It is proven, historically and psychologically that any continued and major disruption of normal life affects children not only in the present but also has the potential to make them future losers in many fronts of life. Left unattended and unengaged with mind building activities, children are prone to go wayward and hence their vibrant energy gets channelized into unwanted ends.Though started in 2020, it is only this year that HIKAI has been implemented in full throttle. Last year the portal was operated on a trial-error method (technically speaking) where pre-recorded videos on different subjects were available for the students to watch. Submission of assignments was not overstressed because offline teaching was also allowed by October-November, and the term end exams also could be conducted offline. However, the Covid trend now seems to reinvent and linger, putting the student community in disarray. This has motivated the Ashrama in Sohra and the VCC in Shillong to modify and upgrade the portal enabling both students and teachers to study and work from home so that a semblance of serious work for teachers and educational engagement for students is in place and constructive and consequential results (not only academic, per se) achieved.But this is not to say that acceptance and success should come overnight. It is too early to make a judgment call on HIKAI. Even now HIKAI is in an evolving mode. But whatever is said, the point that this portal is created for the sole benefit of students should not be understated and overlooked. If we are ready to accept that this is for our children, then whatever we would have to say would be only towards its enhancement.Yes, one may find some aspects of the endeavour to be wanting. Firstly, connectivity is a serious circumstantial issue. But this should not be a stumbling block. Gradually the mind-set of both parents and students should change and once the mind-set changes a hurdle is just something to be overcome. If parents accede that this is for the future of their wards, then they too should try to leave no stone unturned in seeing that their children derive the most from it. A friend, a relative somewhere is there to help. Questions can be downloaded and sent across. Students on their part can write a heap of assignments on a weekly basis and travel to the other end of a village where connectivity is good and ask a friend or a relative or a well-wisher to help in uploading them. Surely it takes a village to raise a child. You will see that when you desire for anything intensely, the entire universe collaborates to make it happen. Impediments will always be there for a new thing to function and it takes the cooperation of all stakeholders to make it a success. I reiterate on the change of mind-set, because this is the only way for any initiative to become a blessing. If in Meghalaya, this mindset change had not taken place when education was offered to the local two centuries ago, where would we be? Then poverty was rampant coupled with superstition. But because gradually peoples perspectives changed, we are now where we are.Secondly, most teachers are rural based who havent faced the camera in their entire life until very recently. Some of them are on the verge of retirement and to whom modern gadgets are rather an encumbrance. They never dreamt that they would experience such a drastic change. But desperate times call for desperate measures. In spite of their camera shyness and clumsiness with the tools, they are trying their best for the sake of the students, and in the process exposing themselves to the judgment of all and sundry. Believe me, we may be good and fluent educators speaking with confidence in the class room, but we may be found stuttering in front of the camera. As mentioned above, we are evolving.Nothing can be further from the truth than to say that HIKAI is a headache for teachers. A workload may be, but certainly not a headache. Since Mr Wadhwan has spoken personally to one teacher, whose views he values and shares with the world, let me also be personal. In fact, I encourage students to send their raw footage to me. I continue giving them instructions over phone or WhatsApp. If that doesnt suffice I offer to help them. And I know of many RKM teachers who do this. Only a day before I got a call from one teacher in Zakabari who wanted clarification on a certain assignment of the subject I teach. He told me that he and the teachers in his school help the students in everything except (he joked) on writing their assignments. And one thing is worth mentioning here. It is not that the management monitors our work from home. We may sit in front of the screen following the normal school hours or we may burn the midnight oil, thats up to us. But that the management should know that both teachers and students are sincere, a minimum submission of 80% of the assignments is a must.Which brings me to my last point, why 80%? In normal school mode, generally schools make 80% attendance a criterion for students to be allowed to sit for a term end exam. Irrespective of students performance in other domains, they have to satisfy this condition. Regularity reflects sincerity and responsibility. But considering the newness of the programme and the direness of the times, this demand is never made draconian in HIKAI. Yes pressure is given to all stakeholders but that too by extending and re-extending the deadline. All students were made to understand before the first term online exam, that they were eligible to appear only on submission of 80% assignments. Most students didnt comply. Yet all were allowed to appear for the exam. We gave the defaulters a chance to still submit their assignments before publishing their results. Those who complied got their results. But for defaulters we extended the deadline further and further and further to the extent that teachers are overburdened with correction of both first term and second term assignments. Why so much trouble? Is it not that we want to see all children through considering theirs and their parents lack of resources? All we are doing is creating avenues for the horses to be taken to the water. Whether they bend down to drink or not its a different matter, and here a modicum of students sincerity or insincerity becomes apparent.
