Artax Biopharma Announces Series B Financing Extension to Advance First-in-Class Autoimmune Disease Therapy – P&T Community

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Artax Biopharma, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on transforming autoimmune disease treatment, today announces the completion of an extension to its Series B financing led by Columbus Venture Partners.

AX-158 is a first-in-class, oral small molecule, immunomodulating agent in development for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. AX-158 employs a novel mechanism of action that selectively modulates, or adjusts, T cell responses that play a critical role in immune system function. Proceeds from the financing will be used to support activities for a planned Q4 2020 filing of a Clinical Trial Application (CTA) with the United Kingdom's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for AX-158.

About ImmunomodulationA healthy immune system eliminates harmful foreign pathogens, while being tolerant of self-tissues and organs. When the immune system malfunctions, cells (T Cells) attack self-tissues and organs, causing autoimmune disease. Current autoimmune disease therapies suppress the immune system, helping to minimize these self-attacks, but also raise susceptibility to harmful foreign pathogens. Drivers granted automatic licence renewal extension – Farming Life

Motorists due to renew their photocard driving licence have been granted a seven-month extension by the DVLA in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has said that anyone whose licence is due to expire between February 1 and August 31, 2020 will receive an automatic extension. A similar extension has been put in place by the Driver and Vehicle Agency in Northern Ireland.

The move is intended to allow drivers to continue to make necessary journeys without having to obtain a new photograph as part of the renewal process.

It comes due to the introduction of a new EU Driving Licence Directive which looks to address difficulties caused by the coronavirus outbreak. The directive says: In order to ensure the smooth functioning of the internal market, a high level of transport safety, to provide legal certainty, and to avoid potential market disruption, it is necessary to adopt temporary provisions extending the validity of those certificates, licences or authorisations that would expire between 1 March 2020 and 31 August 2020 and ensuring that they remain valid during a reasonable period of time during and after the COVID-19 outbreak."

DVLA chief executive Julie Lennard said: This extension will make it easier for drivers who need to update their photocard licence with a new photograph. This means as long as they have a valid licence, drivers will be able to continue to make essential journeys.

The extension is automatic so drivers do not need to do anything and will be sent a reminder to renew their photocard before the extension ends.

The change comes into force from June 4, 2020 and only applies to photocard licence renewal. Anyone whose entitlement to drive is due to expire, for example due to their age, and who wishes to continue to hold a valid licence will need to renew this entitlement in the normal way.

Normally drivers are required to renew their photocard licence every 10 years, and bus and lorry drivers every five years. Driving entitlement on a car (Group 1) licence generally remains in force until the driver reaches 70, unless revoked or surrendered. At aged 70 the driver must renew their entitlement to drive every three years if they wish to continue to hold a valid licence.

Tuskegee University is one of three land-grant institutions to each receive $1.6 million from the U.S. Department of Agricultures Natio

nal Institute of Food and Agriculture for its Center for Innovation and Sustainable Small Farms, Ranches and Forestlands. NIFAs total $4.8 million award supporting Centers of Excellence at these 1890 Land-Grant Institutions in America is made possible through the agencys 1890 Centers of Excellence Grants program, funded through the FY19 Federal Appropriations Bill.

Access to research and educational opportunities is a cornerstone of prosperity, and this investment will help provide opportunities will for Americas underserved and disadvantaged farmers by providing access to research and educational opportunities that will enhance the quality of life in our rural communities, said Scott Hutchins, deputy under secretary for research, education and economics in the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Based in the College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences, Tuskegees Center for Innovation and Sustainable Small Farms, Ranches and Forestlands will fund research, extension and integrated projects designed to increase profitability, natural resource conservation and market demand for small farmers, including socially disadvantaged/underserved farmers, ranchers and forest landowners.

Other institutions receiving a $1.6 million NIFA grant award included the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore for its Center of Excellence for International Engagement and Development; and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University for its Virtual Center to Motivate and Educate for Achievement.

The 1890 COE Program provides support for Centers of Excellence that were originally established in 2015 in conjunction with the 125th Anniversary of the Second Morrill Act of 1890. The 1890s COE are hosted by 1890 Land-Grant Institutions with the goals of increasing profitability and rural prosperity in underserved farming communities; addressing critical needs for enhanced international training and development; and increasing diversity in the science, technology, engineering, agriculture and mathematics (STEAM) pipeline.

The Dak Prescott extension: What have the Cowboys offered? Plus, where negotiations stand – The Dallas Morning News

If you crave an end to the interminable negotiations between the Cowboys and Dak Prescott, if life without sports has sapped your enthusiasm, there may be a solution.

Combine the two. Sure, the parties will be accused of doing a bit. But it worked for Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and a couple of quarterbacks named Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Stage a competition between Prescott and Jerry Jones on the family yacht. Dive into the gorgeous waters of the Mediterranean from the highest point of the Bravo Eugenia. Shoot skeet. Play shuffleboard on the deck. Televise it.

The first man to win two events determines the terms of the contract. The final scene is Prescott being whisked away in the Jones copter to return to shore as the sun sets.

Absurd? No more than some of the assertions advanced and figures floated in recent weeks.

Since precious little has been written or talked about regarding Prescotts negotiations over the last 11 to 12 months sentence designed to test ability to recognize sarcasm lets tackle some of the issues and put this into context as the two sides attempt to reach a long-term deal before July 15.

Heres a synopsis of where negotiations stand at the moment, according to sources.

The Cowboys are offering a five-year deal.

Todd France, who represents Prescott, wants four.

The club has not put an offer on the table that equals or surpasses the average of Russell Wilson. The average falls short of the Seattle quarterbacks $35 million but ahead of the $34 million average of Pittsburghs Ben Roethlisberger.

The Cowboys nudged their guarantee above the $107.9 million of Philadelphias Carson Wentz earlier this year. When the two sides spoke again in April a conversation described by a source at the time as very positive it appears the club increased the guarantee above the $110 million Jared Goff received from the LA Rams.

The bottom line: the Cowboys current offer gives Prescott the leagues top guarantee and the second-highest average. But remember, thats over five years. Wilson, Goff and Wentz signed four-year extensions.

Now, lets chart the progression.

July 2019: The Cowboys presented Prescott with a proposal that averaged $30 million and a guarantee of $90 million entering training camp, putting him among the top five players at the position at that time.

September 2019: In an effort to strike a deal before the regular season began, the club upped that offer to an average of $33 million with a guarantee of close to $105 million.

February or March 2020: The team offered a deal that bumped the average above $34 million with a guarantee of above that of Wentz.

April 2020: The current deal averages roughly $34.5 million with a guarantee slightly above $110 million for five years.

A narrative has surfaced that since Prescott doesnt have a long-term deal, the Cowboys must have doubts about him being their franchise quarterback.

That doesnt add up.

You can question how the Cowboys have gone about the negotiations. But you cant follow the timeline and magnitude of whats been offered and legitimately argue the club is reluctant to tie its future to Prescott.

This is an honest dispute over worth. Those who declare the club should go ahead and pay Prescott are really saying pay Prescott whatever he wants.

Since the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on an extension, since Prescott reached free agency, this is a much more complicated deal to finalize than the ones signed by Goff and Wentz.

The Cowboys used the exclusive franchise tag of $31.4 million to prevent Prescott from reaching free agency. Lets say the quarterback doesnt accept the Cowboys offer, signs the tag on or before July 15 and plays the season at that number.

At that stage, you have to look at the very real possibility that he plays on back-to-back tags the way Kirk Cousins did in Washington before hitting the open market. In that scenario, Prescott would average roughly $34.7 million over the next two years.

Why would he consider a deal at that average now that would bind him to the club for five years? And thats before Kansas City raises the ceiling significantly in terms of average salary and guarantee with Patrick Mahomes.

The Cowboys arent being cheap. France and Prescott arent being unreasonable.

This is just hard.

Jerry has always told me, as a mentor of mine, as the money gets bigger, the deals get harder, Stephen Jones told The Dallas Morning News earlier this month. Obviously, when were talking about Dak, its as big as it gets in the NFL.

So, its got to be right for Dak, and its got to be right for us.

Explained: What RBIs extension of loan moratorium means – The Indian Express

Extension in moratorium on term loan instalments has provided a major relief to borrowers and companies facing cash flow problems, resulting from reduction in income or no income due to job losses. This helps them get some extra time for repayment even as their loan accounts continue to remain standard and their credit score is not adversely affected, thanks to the regulatory relaxations provided by the Reserve Bank of India.

For leveraged companies facing the cash crunch, the moratorium provides survival time. The expectation among the regulators and the banking fraternity is that once the lockdown eases fully in due course, economic activity will come back on track, enabling restoration of income levels of people affected by the sudden stall.

On May 22, the RBI permitted banks and NBFCs to allow a further 3-month moratorium, i.e from June 1 to August 31, 2020, on the payment of instalments in respect of term loans outstanding as on March 31, 2020. Lenders have also been allowed to convert the accumulated interest into a funded interest term loan to be repaid by March 31, 2021.

Individuals and companies who have availed term loans such as home loans, car loans, corporate loans and credit card loans can avail or seek extension of moratorium facility.

According to data provided by different banks, nearly 30 per cent of their outstanding loans have come under moratorium so far, with micro-finance borrowers facing extreme stress, followed by automobile finance, MSMEs, corporate and retail loans.

For some banks, this percentage is almost 70 per cent.

For large lenders like State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank, the percentage of loans under moratorium is under 30 per cent. For Bandhan Bank, it is as high as 71 per cent since it lends primarily to micro units.

Banks expect more people to opt for moratorium facility as sectors such as aviation, tourism, hospitality, transportation and start-ups have seen not just salary cuts but also layoffs.

While the Indian economy is expected to experience a significant contraction this year, any revival in economic activity is seen to be a long-drawn process. Over two months of the lockdown means momentum in the economy will come back very very slowly. This will keep the need and demand for loan moratorium elevated.

IDBI Bank, the latest lender to report its financial results on Saturday, said that68 per cent of its retail loan book and 69 per cent of corporate loans have under the three month moratorium.

The impact of availing loan extension varies widely across borrowers. For someone in the initial years of loan tenure and availing moratorium, his interest payout to the bank and tenure of the loan will extend significantly, as the additional interest for six months has to be paid on a higher base. For a borrower whose loan was taken some years ago and has been repaid significantly, the extra interest payment will be relatively smaller, resulting in a lower extension of the EMI schedule.

During the life of a loan, the amount of interest decreases while the principal component increases as the loan amortisation progresses. One thing to always keep in mind is moratorium is not a loan waiver, it does not provide any monetary relief or concession in interest costs. Interest will continue to accrue on the outstanding portion of the loan during the moratorium period. For someone not facing any cash flow issues, moratorium is of no benefit.

Banks are likely to take a hit down the line since this is expected to significantly add to their non-performing assets (NPAs) from the second half of 2020-21. Banks are unlikely to face problems for the next three months as regulatory relaxations, will provide them a breather till September in recognising NPAs.

Post September, NPAs are expected to shoot up from the current level of around Rs 10 lakh crore, when these loans come up for repayments.In a report last Thursday, Fitch Ratings said Indian banks are looking at significant asset-quality challenges for at least the next two years despite regulatory measures, and estimated that their NPAs could rise by as much as 200-600 basis points, depending on the severity of stress and banks individual risk exposures.

Q: The annuals we planted a couple of weeks ago at our residential home in Bend have been eaten by something. We have tried three different recommendations, including slug bait, insecticide powder, as well as a spray. Nothing seems to be helping. No visible insects during any daylight hours. Any ideas on what is causing this and recommendations to get rid of them would be greatly appreciated. We did plant the same types of annuals at the same time last year and had no issues. A: Without actually seeing an insect feeding on your plants I cannot be positive but this looks like earwig damage. They tend to feed at night and hide during the day. You could try to put out traps of rolled, moistened newspaper with a couple of drops of fish oil in the middle of the roll. This will entice earwigs to go into the newspaper which you should discard into the trash daily. Another trap for earwigs is a small can (like a tuna can) placed in the ground so the top is even with the soil line. Place a little water (not more than half full) with a couple of drops of fish oil in the can and a drop of non-fragrant dish soap. This will trap the earwigs too. These traps may catch other insects that may be the culprits if not earwigs. If you do find that earwigs are caught in the traps, a chemical solution is Sluggo Plus that is labeled for earwigs. Q: I just found a few of my plants that are covered in an insect that looks like a striped ladybug. They appear to be eating the leaves of the plant, and they seem to be isolated to this specific plant. Are they harming the plant? How can I get rid of them if they're not going to be beneficial? A: The insect is the coreopsis beetle (Calligrapha californica) and it only feeds on coreopsis, sometimes called tickseed.

Both the larvae and adults feed on coreopsis. They seem to be periodic pests, gobbling coreopsis for a year or so, then no activity at all.

You must act quickly because these beetles will rapidly reduce the plant down to shreds. Direct hits of a commercial insecticidal soap will get rid of the soft-bodied larvae whereas the adults must be handled more directly flick them into a cup of soapy water. Don't use a homemade concoction of soapy water as it's likely to further damage the plant.
