Liberty Mutual Insurance Reports Fourth Quarter 2011 Results
Posted: March 7, 2012 at 8:06 am
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Liberty Mutual Holding Company Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively LMHC or the Company) today reported net income of $284 million and $365 million for the three and twelve months ended December 31, 2011, decreases of $292 million and $1.313 billion from the same periods in 2010.
Operating results in the fourth quarter were adversely affected by the Thailand floods, bringing our pre-tax catastrophe losses for the year to a historically high level of $2.7 billion, remarked David H. Long, President and CEO of Liberty Mutual Insurance. Net income of $365 million in 2011 though demonstrates that core earnings are solid and that our diversification continues to serve us well. Not immediately evident in the numbers are the opening of our fourth China branch in Guangdong Province, a second level of regulatory approval of our joint venture in India, the acquisition of Quinn insurance operations in Ireland, and a favorable trajectory of pricing trends across multiple lines of business. Collectively, these position us well for a more prosperous 2012.
Fourth Quarter Highlights
Year-to-Date Highlights
Financial Condition as of December 31, 2011
Consolidated Results of Operations for the Three and Twelve Months Ended December 31, 2011 and 2010:
December 31,

Liberty University Online Academy Superintendent Wins Distance Education Award
Posted: at 3:55 am
Harvey Klamm, superintendent of Liberty University Online Academy, was recently awarded the 2012 Corporation and Distance Education Excellence in Education Award by AdvancED, a worldwide organization with 80,000 schools.
Lynchburg, Virginia (PRWEB) March 05, 2012
Klamm said the award represented the success of the entire team who work to provide Christian online homeschooling to more than 1,600 students in grades 3-12.
The Academy has grown because of the hard work of dedicated admissions counselors, academic advisors, Academy teachers and the support of the LU leadership and community, he said.
Liberty University Online Academy is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), an accreditation division of AdvancED, its parent organization.
Liberty University, the worlds largest Christian university, opened its online academy in Fall 2007 with 23 students. Now in its fifth year, more than 1,600 students are enrolled from all 50 states and 24 countries.
Klamm said the growth is due to the popularity of online homeschooling, giving students more independence and an engaging educational experience.
Class instruction is formatted on browser-based software that is delivered by Internet services, Klamm said. Courses are primarily text driven with various forms of interactive components built into the lessons, such as videos, animation, and interactive review games. The lessons are designed to actively engage students in the learning process.
He said the program also gives online high school students a competitive edge for college.
The curriculum is college preparatory in design, Klamm said, adding that with its dual enrollment program, students can complete college credit before ever graduating high school.

Heels on Wheels – 2012 Jeep Liberty Review
Posted: at 3:55 am
SEE ALSO: Jeep Buyers Guide - 2012-1997 Specs, Comparisons And Prices
HEELS ON WHEELS By Katrina Ramser San Francisco Bureau The Auto Channel
INTRO TO THE LIBERTY VEHICLE The trail-designed 2012 Jeep Liberty is no off-road imposture. Often a novice quality for the compact SUV class, the five-passenger Libertys rugged character actually translates deeper than its signature seven-slot grille. I drove a 2012 Jeep Liberty with a standard 210-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine with Jeeps Command Trac II Part-time 4WD System. Available in a Sport, Arctic, Limited Edition and Limited Jet Edition, my Limited trim came with the following standard features: leather-trimmed bucket seats; six-way power drivers seat; a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls; a eight-speaker premium Infinity audio system; MP3 and audio input jacks; XM Radio; Bluetooth; flipper liftgate glass; roof rails; an accident response system; and a theft deterrent system. Vehicle price came to $28,360. Think of the Liberty as existing between two markets the compact SUV and a more capable four-wheeler. It only fairs well in one, and thats the latter, because for a daily vehicle there are half a dozen of other choices that offer better fuel economy, more space, and a smoother and safer driving experience than the Jeep Liberty. Better to compare this vehicle to the Nissan Xterra or Toyota FJ Cruiser.
HEELS ON WHEELS REVIEW CRITERIA
Stylish But Comfortable Results: I find the utilitarian feel so cherished in Jeep styling doesnt transfer well inside; at best, the Libertys interior is cramped and stiff with the dashboard design making poor use of space. Visibility is a plus. My Liberty Limited came with an organized arrangement of modern technology, but the materials used are glaringly subpar. The majority of options are clustered into complex packages or groups, setting the consumer up to pay for more than desired.
Reliability & Safety Factor: The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates the 2012 Jeep Liberty as Good in frontal and roof strength tests, but just Marginal in side impact tests even with standard side airbags. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the vehicle and overall rating of just 3-Stars, with the lowest scores in frontal crash. Standard safety equipment includes: advanced airbags; anti-lock brakes; Hill Start Assist; Hill Descent Control; LATCH-Ready Child Seta Anchor System; Electronic Roll Mitigation.
Cost Issues: A base Liberty Sport 4WD starts at $24,975, where a Liberty Limited Jet Edition 4WDstarts at $28,560. For the capability, the costs are justified; but for the small space, its not. There are numerous groups to upgrade the conveniences, safety, appearance and performance. With price tags ranging from $200-1,000 each, these Liberty prices can easily rise a few more thousand.
Activity & Performance Ability: The Liberty has the off-road technology needed to display perfect torque-to-wheel transfer over loose rock hills without a hiccup or loss of traction. Unlike larger Jeeps, a strong reason to opt for the Liberty would be to gain more confidence when navigating through narrower passages no large, boxy frame here. Once on the highway, the Liberty cannot compete with the smoothness found in similar-sized SUVs nor can it offer the fuel economy at a dismal 15 miles-per-gallon city and 21 highway.
The Green Concern: At 17 miles-per-gallon combined, the compact SUV Liberty gets the same gas mileage as some vehicles with a V8 engine.
FINAL PARTING WORDS If youre looking for the real deal a compact SUV that can handle trail life the 2012 Jeep Liberty will live up to your off-road expectations. But as a daily commuter, dozens of competitors can deliver much better average fuel economy than the Libertys 17 miles-per-gallon as well as more passenger and cargo space.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
American Liberty Petroleum Corp. (OTCBB: OREO) (herein after "American Liberty" and/or "the Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of energy industry veteran Vincent Ramirez to the Company's management team in the position of VP Operations.
Mr. Ramirez has successfully built an oil and gas career spanning roles in exploration, production, finance, management, research, and lecturing while working with major industry players such as Shell and Amoco along the way. Vincent earned a B.S. in Geology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an M.A. in Geology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Among the roles that exemplify his operations-related abilities is the 6 years he spent as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the 80-million-barrel oil Siberian-based Vostochnaya Transnational Company where he raised $60 million capital, managed operations for the drilling of 7 wells and the construction of a 70 mile pipeline, and supervised regulatory compliance and ongoing sales operations. Vincent has also worked as an industry consultant, including drilling and developing California-based oil and gas fields, and evaluating projects for foreign investors. Other previous work includes geologic mapping in California for the US Geological Survey (USGS); preparing geologic maps of various California areas for Amoco; and holding Exploration and Operations Geologist roles for Shell Western E&P, including Production Geologist for San Joaquin Valley operations and exploration wildcats involving 12 oil fields and 120,000 barrels of oil per day operations.
American Liberty's President, Alvaro Vollmers, commented: "While energy production potential is vital to the success of an energy company, so is the leadership needed to maximize on that potential. And that leadership ability comes from the very sort of industry experience Vincent Ramirez represents, both in the boardroom and in the field."

Liberty Star’s Hay Mountain Geochemical Samples Under Analysis at Canadian Facility
Posted: at 3:55 am
TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp.(the Company) (OTCBB: LBSR.OB - News) is pleased to announce the Companys sample preparation contractor (MEG Inc.) has completed shipment of all rock chip and soil geochemical samples collected over the Companys Hay Mountain claims to a certified geochemical analysis lab in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Ideally, results can be expected within the next three to six weeks. The project areas biogeochemical (vegetation) samples are currently at the MEG facility near Reno, Nevada and are being processed for assay. As soon as they are processed (estimated two weeks) they will be sent by air freight to the same certified lab in Vancouver.
The 621 sample sites over approximately fourteen square miles centered on the Hay Mountain target generated three samples each (except where rock or soil or vegetation was not available) and produced over 1,800 samples. Each sample will be assayed for 63 elements generating about 113 thousand analyses. These assays will be processed by various computer programs into graphs and maps showing elemental concentrations in the three different types of samples. Metal zoning patterns of porphyry copper-gold systems are well known as a result of the Guilbert-Lowell Porphyry Copper (gold) model. Because geologic forces cause metal and trace elements to move to the surface where they can be detected by geochemical sampling and assaying, it is expected that the results of the geochemical sampling will reveal metal and trace element targets suitable for exploratory drilling.
In addition to geochem analytical work, Liberty Star is prepared to undertake a ZTEM survey over the Hay Mountain Project area which Liberty Star has designed. The survey should take about two weeks with results available shortly after its completion. Should thunderstorm conditions in the northern hemisphere (which power the EM signals) allow, the ZTEM could start March/April. According to Geotech, in the time since their 2010 survey over Liberty Stars Big Chunk Super Project (Alaska), they have improved and refined their reporting through advances in imaging software technology.
The pre-drilling projects will be combined to design an efficient drilling program: the geochem results will identify metal zone targets and the ZTEM survey will outline mineral target geometry.
James A. Briscoe James A. Briscoe, Professional Geologist, AZ CA CEO/Chief Geologist Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp.
Safe Harbor Statement:
Statements in this news release that are not historical are forward-looking statements. Forward-looking statements in this news release include: that the results from the soil geochemical sampling analysis can be expected in three to six weeks; that the biogeochemical samples will be sent to Vancouver in approximately two weeks; that each sample will be assayed for 63 elements generating about 113 thousand analyses; that the assays will be processed in a particular manner; that Liberty Star is prepared to undertake a ZTEM survey, that it will take two weeks to complete and that results will be available shortly thereafter and that the survey could start in March/April; and that the geochem results will identify metal zone targets and outline mineral target geometry.
Factors which may delay or prevent these forward-looking statements from being realized include: the failure of our exploration program to identify targets; we may not be able to raise sufficient funds to complete our intended exploration or carry on operations; and an inability to continue exploration due to weather, logistical problems or hazards even if funds are available. Readers should refer to the risk disclosures in the Companys recent 10-K and the Companys other periodic reports filed from time to time with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

No Liberty for West Oso in semifinal defeat
Posted: March 4, 2012 at 4:29 am
CORPUS CHRISTI West Oso's boys basketball team didn't have to travel a long way for the IV-3A regional tournament.
But once they got to the American Bank Center, long-distance daggers were what deep-sixed the Bears' state championship defense.
Liberty Hill's lights-out shooting was too much for West Oso, with the Panthers rolling to a 68-51 victory in their regional semifinal.
Liberty Hill (32-3) will face Miller (30-8) in today's 1 p.m. regional final, while West Oso's (30-6) 3A championship reign ends.
In the stinging aftermath, it was the latter that Bears coach Arnold Flores focused on.
"One of my closing speeches was it's not about what we didn't do tonight, but what we did throughout the course of the year," Flores said. "A lot of people picked us to come in second place and we won (District 31-3A) and some people didn't think we'd make it to the regional tournament and we did.
"I'm real proud of these young men for everything they've accomplished this year. We're going to be in the same situation next year. We've got one starter (Davon Fox) coming back and there are two sophomores that saw quite a bit of playing time. Now, the legacy's on their shoulders. With hard work, hopefully we'll be back again next year."
Given how the Panthers shot Liberty Hill made 11 3-pointers it seemed West Oso was powerless at times to stop their foes.
The Bears led 19-18 after the first quarter, but the hammer fell during the second, when Liberty Hill broke a 23-all deadlock with an 18-4 run to finish the half.
"Once we had the momentum and started making our shots, we knew we could go on from there and keep making shots and pressing hard," said Liberty Hill's Stephen Graves, who led his team with five 3-pointers among his 19 points.

Liberty University Student wins PRWeek Student of the Year Award
Posted: at 4:29 am
Liberty University senior Keri Cook has been named Student of the Year by PRWeek.
(PRWEB) March 02, 2012
Cook was one of five finalists for the award, presented at the annual PRWeek Awards in New York City on Thursday, March 1. She receives $5,000 and a paid internship at Hill & Knowlton, a leading communications services firm with national and global clients.
Cook will be featured in the April issue of PRWeek.
To enter the contest, each participant devised a public relations campaign to showcase the technological innovation of Ford Motor Company. At Liberty, the contest was a requirement for students in Dr. Angela Widgeons public relations strategy class.
"Students had to put together an Integrated Marketing Communication campaign to promote Fords SYNC (voice recognition) technology, said Widgeon. Students conducted secondary and primary research, developed a strategic message for the campaign, created original public relations and advertising samples, proposed a media plan, budget and measures of success.
PRWeek chose five finalists, who presented their campaigns in front of an expert panel on Jan. 24 in New York City. The competition consisted of three parts: a public relations plan, a response to a crisis communication situation and a media pitch. The judges chose two finalists and Cook learned she was the winner during an awards dinner on Thursday night.
Its a big honor representing Liberty University in this way, Cook said. The judges know our name now. People at the agencies that I talked to think well of our school.
She said winning the award encouraged her even more to pursue a public relations career.
I feel really encouraged in Gods direction, that this is the path Im supposed to be on career-wise, she said.
