Liberty beats Becahi on Kondravy's 3-run HR
Posted: at 5:26 am
Bethlehem Catholic won the Lehigh Valley Conference softball championship last year, and the Golden Hawks were the near-unanimous preseason choice to win it this spring.
Becahi might go on to win league, district, and possibly state honors.
But the Golden Hawks won't go undefeated.
Intracity rival Liberty reminded Becahi on Thursday that while preseason laurels are nice, they don't win games.
Hurricanes sophomore Mariah Kondravy stunned Becahi with a three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Liberty a walk-off 5-4 win in the LVC opener for both teams.
The Golden Hawks had entered the game at 3-0 and with Joelle Morey and Kayla Kresley having thrown no-hitters.
However, Liberty left the game with a 3-0 mark and having served notice that the Christmas City title, as well as the East Division and LVC championships, are still very much up for grabs.
"I told our kids before the game that in city games you have to take it to another level," said 'Canes coach Rich Giering. "You have to play all seven innings and whatever happens, happens. You just have to play to the end."
Certainly, Kondravy didn't stop swinging.
She had hurt Becahi earlier in the game with a run-scoring single in the first and a triple to knock in a run in the fifth. Even when she made an out, it was hard hit.

Will Liberty Global Whiff on Revenues Next Quarter?
Posted: at 5:26 am
There's no foolproof way to know the future for Liberty Global (Nasdaq: LBTYA) or any other company. However, certain clues may help you see potential stumbles before they happen -- and before your stock craters as a result.
A cloudy crystal ballIn this series, we use accounts receivable and days sales outstanding to judge a company's current health and future prospects. It's an important step in separating the pretenders from the market's best stocks. Alone, AR -- the amount of money owed the company -- and DSO -- the number of days' worth of sales owed to the company -- don't tell you much. However, by considering the trends in AR and DSO, you can sometimes get a window onto the future.
Sometimes, problems with AR or DSO simply indicate a change in the business (like an acquisition), or lax collections. However, AR that grows more quickly than revenue, or ballooning DSO, can also suggest a desperate company that's trying to boost sales by giving its customers overly generous payment terms. Alternately, it can indicate that the company sprinted to book a load of sales at the end of the quarter, like used-car dealers on the 29th of the month. (Sometimes, companies do both.)
Why might an upstanding firm like Liberty Global do this? For the same reason any other company might: to make the numbers. Investors don't like revenue shortfalls, and employees don't like reporting them to their superiors.
Is Liberty Global sending any potential warning signs? Take a look at the chart below, which plots revenue growth against AR growth, and DSO:
Source: S&P Capital IQ. Data is current as of last fully reported fiscal quarter. FQ = fiscal quarter.
The standard way to calculate DSO uses average accounts receivable. I prefer to look at end-of-quarter receivables, but I've plotted both above.
Watching the trendsWhen that red line (AR growth) crosses above the green line (revenue growth), I know I need to consult the filings. Similarly, a spike in the blue bars indicates a trend worth worrying about. Liberty Global's latest average DSO stands at 31.2 days, and the end-of-quarter figure is 34.8 days. Differences in business models can generate variations in DSO, and business needs can require occasional fluctuations, but all things being equal, I like to see this figure stay steady. So, let's get back to our original question: Based on DSO and sales, does Liberty Global look like it might miss its numbers in the next quarter or two?
The numbers don't paint a clear picture. For the last fully reported fiscal quarter, Liberty Global's year-over-year revenue grew 35.6%, and its AR dropped 1.3%. That looks OK, but end-of-quarter DSO decreased 27.2% from the prior-year quarter. It was up 37.5% versus the prior quarter. That demands a good explanation. Still, I'm no fortuneteller, and these are just numbers. Investors putting their money on the line always need to dig into the filings for the root causes and draw their own conclusions.
What now?I use this kind of analysis to figure out which investments I need to watch more closely as I hunt the market's best returns. However, some investors actively seek out companies on the wrong side of AR trends in order to sell them short, profiting when they eventually fall. Which way would you play this one? Let us know in the comments section below, or keep up with the stocks mentioned in this article by tracking them in our free watchlist service, My Watchlist.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Jeep's design chief says the replacement for the Jeep Liberty will be much different from the current model and should attract new buyers, but he offered assurances Jeep isn't turning its back on its rugged heritage.
"It's definitely not the old Liberty," Mark Allen said Tuesday after a preview of Jeep concepts built for the upcoming Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. "It's a step in the right direction. It's a much more efficient Jeep, it's a much more efficient-looking Jeep, honestly. It's not what we have now."
Jeep launched the Liberty in 2001 to replace the aging Cherokee. The SUV was redesigned for the 2008 model year, with new styling that squared off the first generation's curves for a more boxy, masculine look. Since then, little has changed inside or outside the Liberty while Jeep has updated the majority of its lineup.
The new model, which like the Liberty will be built in Toledo, will use Chrysler Group's versatile front-wheel-drive platform that also will go under the upcoming Dodge Dart. A more efficient engine and transmission combination should greatly improve fuel mileage. Four-wheel drive is expected to be offered.
Mr. Allen said he was proud of the vehicle's design but declined to outline any specific clues or give size comparisons with the current model. So far, no images have leaked of the vehicle's sheet metal, though several automotive magazines and Internet blogs published spy photos said to be of a test car. However, that vehicle was clad in body panels from an Alfa Romeo Giulietta and offered no real hints at what the new SUV will look like.
Mike Manley, the brand's chief executive officer, said Jeep will unveil the new model early next year. That likely will come in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Michael Barchick, vice president and general manager at Charlie's Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Maumee, said dealers have been told little about the coming model, aside from being encouraged to build up inventories to hold them over from August until the new vehicle hits showrooms.

Liberty's Timeless Torches dancers
Posted: March 28, 2012 at 11:31 pm
MYFOXNY.COM - The Timeless Torches are redefining sexy. The house dancers for the New York Liberty, a professional women's basketball team, are little bit older than the average dancer, but are showing no sign of slowing down.
"We're not like the regular dance team where we fit in a size zero and then we're like in our 20s," said Margaret Hamilton.
The over-40 dance team has been around since 2005. They make about 10 appearances a year at Liberty games and other events and have even been featured on "30 Rock." The torches have day jobs and have to audition for the group. They take their duty of sharing Liberty love very seriously.
"They are all different ages, come from all different backgrounds, but when they get to practice they just have a blast and you can really tell that they just have such a passion for dancing," said coach Amanda Rebisz.
The Timeless Torches practice at a rehearsal space twice a week for up to 3 hours a day. They say it all pays off when they get to perform for the New York Liberty.
"The adrenaline rush that comes in and we just love it and we get a standing ovation every time," Hamilton said. "And we're like 'Yes, we did it!'"
"The other day I had somebody come up to me who I had never met and say I was her inspiration," said dancer Shirley Koehler, who turns 72 in April. "That to me was the greatest thing to hear 'cause to me I was just dancing."

BOURBON Success Story Continues with 54th and Last Bourbon Liberty 200 Vessel and the Very 1st Bourbon Liberty 300 …
Posted: at 11:31 pm
PARIS, March 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
BOURBON announces the extension of its flagship series Bourbon Liberty in line with its strategy to offer a very high standard of service for the most demanding clients.
A naming ceremony was held today at Sinopacific Zhejiang shipyards in China for two iconic BOURBON vessels: Bourbon Liberty 254, last vessel to be delivered of the Bourbon Liberty 200 series of 54 AHTS, and Bourbon Liberty 301, first vessel of the Bourbon Liberty 300 series of 20 AHTS.
In June 2010, the group announced its "BOURBON 2015 Leadership Strategy" and ordered 3 new series of vessels from Sinopacific shipyards. Bourbon Liberty 301 is the first vessel of the first series to be delivered.
"Delivery of the Bourbon Liberty 301 is an important milestone for BOURBON," says Christian Lefvre, CEO of BOURBON, during the vessel-naming ceremony. "Our strategy of building standardized vessels in large quantities, as exemplified in the Bourbon Liberty 100 and 200 series, has been a tremendous success and a key factor in helping BOURBON reach a position of global leader in the offshore marine services industry. With this extension of series, BOURBON demonstrates the efficiency and flexibility of this strategy to meet the needs and expectations of the most demanding oil and gas clients".
The first Bourbon Liberty, Bourbon Liberty 101, was delivered to the Group in February 2008. Four years later, all 76 Bourbon Liberty vessels (54 Bourbon Liberty 200 and 22 Bourbon Liberty 100) are operational and provide clients with numerous advantages:
"We operate a fleet of 76 Bourbon Liberty vessels worldwide,"saysRodolphe Bouchet, VP Business Management for Marine Services."The concept and design of the series is appreciated and recognized by our clients, as evidenced by their loyalty. We continue to respond to their needs and remain closely connected to the evolving needs of the offshore industry. The'BOURBON 2015 Leadership Strategy'plan which calls for extending the range of this series with 20 new Bourbon Liberty 300's and 15 new Bourbon Liberty 150's, reflects an accurate anticipation of the evolution of the market".
"Bourbon Liberty 300 vessels are the extension of Bourbon Liberty 200 vessels. They provide clients with a larger deck space and the capacity to carry more liquid mud and bulk products. At the same time, they use the same key features as the Bourbon Liberty 200 series (Class 2 Dynamic Positioning system, main gensets, azimuth thrusters)," comments Olivier Daniel, BOURBON Newbuilding Managing Director.
BOURBON decided to extend its fleet by offering clients a Cleanship Class AHTS. Since innovation is at the core of BOURBON growth, the group decided voluntarily to apply this Cleanship notation to the Bourbon Liberty 300 series even though the deadweight of the vessels does not require it.
Nineteen other Bourbon Liberty 300 vessels and 15 Bourbon Liberty 150 vessels will join the recently delivered first Bourbon Liberty 300 vessel, in the near future.

Liberty hands Titans loss in baseball season opener
Posted: March 27, 2012 at 2:57 am
HAMILTON, Ill. The Liberty Eagles shut down West Hancock in the Titans first baseball game of the season Thursday.
Pitcher Jared Shover did not allow a hit until Kendall Summers two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to help Liberty defeat West Hancock 7-1 in the West Central Conference South Division contest.
We have a veteran team, and we expect them to come out and play, said West Hancock Head Coach Lee Purchatzke. We knew this was a good team. We knew we had to beat them to win the conference. Its pretty disappointing.
Liberty jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with consecutive doubles by Tyler Ormond, Marc Rush and Lane Hanzel off West Hancock starting pitcher Paxton Harmon. The Eagles added a run in the second inning to make the score 3-0.
(They hit) a couple of mistakes early, Purchatzke said. Theyre good hitters, and they put the bat on the ball. Leaving the ball up against a good team like that, theyre going to make you pay. After that first inning, Paxton got his breaking stuff going a little better and kept things a little more off-balanced.
West Hancock threatened in the bottom of the first with one-out walks to Austin Hardy and Collin Dooley, but a double play ended the Titans inning.
You give him credit, he pitched a great game. No doubt about that, but if this team is going to challenge for a regional, youre going to have to beat pitchers like that, Purchatzke said. Youre going to have to get them off the mound. Obviously, were not ready yet.
Liberty put the game out of reach in the seventh inning, taking advantage of a two-out error that scored a run. Isaac Murfin followed with a three-run home run over the centerfield fence to make the score 7-0.
We made a couple of plays defensively, but there were a couple of others we could have made that could have kept this a 2-0, 3-0 game, maybe, Purchatzke said.
Shover had thrown 68 pitches through the first six innings, but the Titans made the senior right-hander work in the seventh inning. Harmon walked and Summers followed with a single up the middle on an 0-2 count. Harmon scored the lone run off a Liberty error on a ball hit by Coy Dorothy.

Vote Postponed for New Animal Shelter in Liberty
Posted: at 2:57 am
Posted on: 5:40 pm, March 26, 2012, by Mitch Weber, updated on: 09:33pm, March 26, 2012
LIBERTY, Mo. Update: 9:00 p.m. The City Council postponed voting on the proposal to build a new animal shelter. Business owners near the new location signed a petition and had an attorney present it to the council. The opponents argue the shelter would bring noise and pollution to the area and bring down their property values. The council is giving supporters two weeks to respond. The next meeting is scheduled for April 9th.
The Liberty City Council was expected to vote Monday night on a new proposal to build an animal shelter. The current shelter is 40-years-old and can only hold about a dozen dogs and a dozen cats.
A group of supporters made up of animal lovers and veterinarians from the Liberty area found a location to build a new shelter past William Jewell College on County H Highway. But, one business owner that would be next door to the new shelter is concerned about noise and the smell. He plans to bring up his concerns at the city council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m.
The proposal also includes using grant money and private funding for the estimated $1 million project. The group is not asking the city for money, just approval to build. The location is already zoned appropriately for an animal shelter.
The Liberty Animal Shelter is run by the Police Department which includes two Liberty Police Officers.
If approved the group hopes to have the facility up and running in the spring of 2013.

Liberty Mines Provides Update on Deep-Drilling Program at Hart East
Posted: March 26, 2012 at 2:44 pm
- Intersects 0.97% Ni over 3.1 meters at 146m vertical depth below surface - - Intersects 1.02% Ni over 1.7 meters at 650 m vertical depth below surface -
TSX: LBE
TORONTO , March 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Liberty Mines Inc (T: LBE.TO - News) today announced results from its current deep-drilling program at its 100-percent owned Hart East Project located in the Shaw Dome Nickel region near Timmins, Ontario.
"Drill results at our Hart East Project, which is a key component of our exploration program designed to expand our resource base, are very encouraging," said Mr. Chris Stewart , President and CEO of Liberty Mines Inc. "The results suggest the potential for additional nickel mineralization at depth as well as the potential for increased tonnage."
Highlights
Liberty discovered the Hart East project in April of 2011 with a deep-drill hole that followed up on two historic drill holes approximately 300 meters east of its Hart Nickel Deposit. Drill hole H-11-11, which was completed on April 19, 2011 intersected 0.82% Ni over a drilled width of 36.0 meters at a vertical depth of approximately 350 meters below surface. Subsequent drilling has focussed on expanding the Hart East with drilling up dip, down dip, and on strike of drill hole H-11-11. Best results from recent drilling activities came from drill hole H-11-28, which intersected 0.97% Ni over a drilled width of 3.1 meters from 158.4 to 161.5 meters including 1.60% Ni over a drilled width of 1.2 meters from 158.4 to 159.6 meters. This intersection occurs approximately 146 meters vertically below surface and 25 meters east of drill hole H-11-11.
Drill hole H-11-30 intersected 1.02% Ni over a drilled width of 1.7 meters from 660.5 to 662.2 meters at a vertical depth of 650 meters below surface. In addition, two shallow drill holes intersected nickel mineralization approximately 20 meters vertically below surface. Drill hole H-11-26 intersected 0.44% Ni over a drilled width of 3.8 meters from 18.7 to 22.5 meters and drill hole H-11-29A intersected 0.55% Ni over a drilled width of 2.0 meters from 20.0 to 22.0 meters. The two intercepts occur approximately 50 meters apart.
Recent soil geochemistry utilizing SGH (soil gas hydrocarbons) and MMI (mobile metal ion exchange) on the surface expression of the Hart East deposit suggest widespread nickel mineralization for an additional 120 meters to the northeast of the Hart East Deposit. In addition, the firm Crone Geophysics and Exploration Ltd. is currently conducting borehole pulse EM surveys in the deeper holes on the Hart Deposit and Hart East mineralized zone to vector in on pooling of nickel sulphides and down plunge continuity of nickel mineralization.
Results from the recent drilling on the Hart East are tabulated below:
* True widths are unknown at this time. *The core lengths presented in the table are the intersected core lengths. The composite lengths are core weighted.

Arapahoe shuts down Liberty in girls soccer
Posted: at 10:23 am
Arapahoes girls soccer team is still very much a work in progress after the first five games of the 2012 season.
While the Warriors headed into spring break with a tidy 4-1 record after they defeated Liberty 2-0 on March 22 at Littleton Public Schools Stadium, its not lost on the players or coaches that improvements have to be made as league play draws closer.
We have so much potential, said junior midfielder/defender, Stella Norman, who scored a goal in the 23rd minute. There are just a lot of things myself included that we need to work on. We are taking things step-by-step and the big thing for us is just going to be staying consistent with our play.
The Warriors would like to stretch out the first 40 minutes of play against Liberty into a complete game.
The girls are working hard, and thats encouraging, coach Kirk Bast said. I think that everyone, players and coaches, will get this figured out and well be able to find that consistency that were going to need once we start league play.
In that opening half, Arapahoe dominated possession and put eight shots on frame. After a few near-misses, Andrea Lewis broke through in the 11th minute as she knocked in her own rebound to put Arapahoe up 1-0.
Arapahoe didnt ease off of the gas pedal, and nearly scored another goal seconds later as Maggie Sexton shot just wide of the goal after a nice touch by Amanda Martinez put her in position to score.
Several minutes later, Norman made an aggressive play on a ball in the Liberty half of the field, won the tackle and ripped a shot to the low left corner that bounced off of the post and in for her teams second goal of the half.
I like to kick the ball when I get the opportunity, Norman said.
Bast said that Norman, a co-captain, is a key cog in the Arapahoe lineup, which is playing without several important members, including last years leading scorer, junior Alex Anthony, who is out with an ACL injury. Sophomore forward Lauren Conley missed the Liberty game due to illness, but will be back with the team after the break.
