Home Business Automotive A 2011 Liberty is taken for a test drive at the Monroe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Superstore in Monroe. THE BLADE/AMY E. VOIGT Enlarge Loading
Published: 7/29/2012
BY TYREL LINKHORN BLADE BUSINESS WRITER
At its introduction in 2001, the Jeep Liberty had a tall mountain to climb. It was replacing the capable and very well-received Jeep Cherokee -- a vehicle that practically invented the small sport utility vehicle segment.
And the Liberty was doing it in a way that proved a bit controversial. Instead of sharp lines, the Liberty had curves. It was heavier. It traded the bulletproof straight six for a four-cylinder or V-6 engine. The Jeep enthusiast crowd saw it as near affront to the slab-sided utilitarian Cherokee.
"The first-generation Liberty was criticized for having gone really soft," said Ed Kim, vice president of industry analysis at AutoPacific. "Some members of the press sort of derided it for being a girly Jeep, being too cute, being not masculine enough, even though in terms of its rugged hardware, it was every bit as capable as the previous-generation Cherokee."
Regardless of those perceptions, buyers scooped up more than 171,000 of the Toledo-built Liberty in its first full year. That was about 30,000 more units than the Cherokee sold in its last full year in 2001.
Since then, more than 1.25 million Libertys have been sold.
Now, after an 11-year run and one major redesign, the Liberty as we know it will soon come to an end. Chrysler Group LLC hasn't officially said when production will cease, but union officials and supplier contracts confirm that Aug. 16 will be Liberty's last day.
Its replacement -- officially unnamed as yet -- is expected to be vastly different from the outgoing Liberty.

Liberty Mutual Insurance is launching new ads during the Olympics
Posted: at 7:14 am
By Chris Reidy, Globe Staff
Liberty Mutual Insurance said it will debut new ads during the Olympics. The campaign is titled Humans, and it begins with a 60-second and a 30-second TV spot.
The creative for the campaign was developed by Hill Holliday of Boston, Liberty Mutuals advertising agency of record.
The TV spots feature vignettes that illustrate everyday moments when people show their imperfections - and when there is a need for responsibility and insurance, Boston-based Liberty Mutual said.
The 60-second spot opens with a voice-over saying: Humans. We mean well but we are imperfect creatures living in an imperfect world.
Vignettes span a wide range of mishaps that damage property, cars, or homes.
The spot closes with the voice-over saying: Thats the funny thing about humans. When things are at their worst, we are at our best.
Actor Paul Giamatti does the voice-over. The musical score is provided by the Human League and its hit song, Human.
Liberty Mutual Insurance is a diversified global insurer and the third largest property and casualty insurer in the United States.

Sennen Responds to Liberty's "Open Letter"
Posted: at 7:14 am
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire -07/27/12)- Sennen Resources Ltd. (SN.V) (Sennen or the Company) notes Liberty Silver Corp.'s (Liberty) 'Open Letter to Sennen shareholders' (the Letter) issued on July 26th 2012. For clarity, this unsolicited and hostile offer by Liberty was initiated without any prior discussion with Sennen management, and consequently, without providing Sennen any prior opportunity to conduct meaningful due diligence on Liberty. Liberty's stated intention to remove the directors of Sennen and, subject to certain conditions, delist the Company's shares in order to access the Company's treasury contradicts their newly stated desire of "concluding a friendly deal with Sennen". Sennen shareholders are advised that Liberty's offer is a 'hostile' take-over attempt.
Sennen's Board of Directors, as is their fiduciary duty, is conducting, in conjunction with its advisors, a reasoned assessment of the Liberty offer in the interests of the Sennen shareholders. The Special Committee of the Board of Directors convened to review the Liberty offer, which is made up of three independent directors, expects to make its recommendation to Sennen's Board of Directors, who will in turn make its recommendation to shareholders, on or before July 31st 2012. This recommendation will be set out in a news release and contained in a Director's circular that will be mailed to all shareholders. This process, although expensive and time consuming, must be carried out to comply with applicable securities and corporate laws.
Sennen wishes to acknowledge the overwhelming response by way of unsolicited communications from many shareholders both prior and subsequent to the Letter, which to date has been one of unanimous rejection of Liberty's hostile offer for a myriad of corporate and technical reasons. Shareholders are urged to take no action whatsoever until the Board of Directors has made its recommendation.
Sennen has approximately $13.5M in the treasury and no debt. The Company's management and Board of Directors combined have over 125 years of relevant experience in the mining and mineral exploration industry. The Company continues to explore opportunities that are increasingly becoming available to cashed up companies such as Sennen, while dealing effectively with the unsolicited Liberty offer. In the current market environment, Sennen's good track record, experienced management and approach to creating and preserving cash has provided the Company with a significant advantage over most of its peers. The Company is not short of "cash, commitment or talent", and is now in a perfect situation to take advantage of the solvency crisis that many junior exploration companies find themselves in.
Neither the TSX Venture Exchange (the "TSXV") nor its Regulation Services Provider (as that term is defined in the policies of the TSXV) has reviewed, nor do they accept responsibility for the adequacy or accuracy of, this release.

Liberty for Youth finds new home in east end
Posted: July 27, 2012 at 5:16 am
Liberty for Youth has always been a cause that hit more than close to home for Frederick Dryden.
Next week, the local nonprofit, charitable organization will outgrow that home in both the physical and visionary senses.
Liberty for Youth, which focuses on intervention and prevention for youth at risk for gang involvement, poverty or negative environments, has been based in Drydens West 4th Street residence on the Mountain since 2003.
On Aug. 1, Dryden and his four other staff members are moving from the 600-square-feet basement office into a 3,200-square-feet former book store on King Street East in the citys east end.
Weve now totally outgrown this place, and the building will be a new exciting chapter, Dryden said. It will allow us to really grow, (and) provide support and housing for the youth in our programs returning to school.
The new space, east of Kenilworth Avenue, is expected to increase the charitys services by more than 55 per cent, Dryden said. This includes housing for a maximum of four high-risk young people finishing post-secondary education, a drop-in centre providing free meals and a potential program for teenage girls.
The agency was able to swing an $87,000 downpayment for the new facility after receiving two $10,000 donations, one from the Charity of Hope and the other from the Rexall Foundation.
It is rolling out a formal campaign this fall with the goal of raising $300,000 in three years to pay off the mortgage and do renovations.
Ron Foxcroft, the campaigns honorary chair, Fluke Transport CEO and founder of Fox 40 International, said the new premises in Ward 4 gives the charity instant credibility.
What it symbolizes to me is that it is a building where good things are happening through motivation and through hope, counselling and mentoring, he said. I think its a great symbol, and the location is perfect because Im really sold on the east end of Hamilton.

Liberty Mutual Announces Realignment; Names 4 Unit Executives
Posted: July 26, 2012 at 3:18 pm
Boston-headquartered insurance giant Liberty Mutual said it is realigning its strategic business units.
The company which reported $139 million profit for its 2012 second-quarter earlier Wednesday also named executives that will lead each of its four new strategic business units (SBUs).
The changes include: bringing together its regional company and commercial markets group; combining domestic personal lines business; and creating a global specialty unit combining Liberty International Underwriters, Liberty Mutual Reinsurance and Liberty Mutual Surety.
The insurer emphasized, however, that this is not a consolidation or reorganization.
This change is designed to make it easier for agents and customers to do business with us. It also will allow us to better leverage our scale and expertise by spreading best practices and investments in products, services and innovation across the global enterprise, Liberty Mutual spokesman John Cusolito told Insurance Journal.
We are realigning our strategic business units into four new SBUs effective immediately.
The company has informed its employees about the newly formed business units. Agents were to receive the communication regarding the change from the company on Wednesday, July 25.
The four newly realigned business units and the top executive for each unit are as follows:
Commercial Insurance, which will serve standard lines accounts of all sizes by providing one face to the agent and broker community. This business unit will offer commercial products and services from Liberty Mutuals commercial markets as well as Liberty Mutual Agency Corp.s regional companies.
The company said agents and brokers will benefit from continued regional focus and authority enhanced by greater national capabilities and resources.

Liberty Silver Corp. Open Letter to Sennen Shareholders
Posted: at 3:17 pm
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire -07/26/12)- Liberty Silver Corp. (LSL.TO)(LBSV) issued an open letter to the Sennen Resources Ltd. shareholders regarding the Company's offer to acquire Sennen. The letter follows.
Dear Sennen Shareholder -
We at Liberty are focused on concluding a friendly deal with Sennen that is in the best interest of both Sennen and Liberty shareholders. I'd like to tell you why.
The rationale for a combination of our two companies could not be more compelling at this time. As you are no doubt aware, the capital markets have been very challenging. This is especially true for junior mining companies. Some believe that these difficulties are a part of the normal business cycle and that the junior mining public markets will return to their former health in due course. We are less sure.
Since the mid 1990's, the number of publicly-traded junior mining companies has expanded from the hundreds to the thousands. As a result of this huge increase:
In Liberty's view, the junior mining sector is going through a fundamental transformation.
Consolidation will result in fewer junior miners, each with a multitude of projects guided by the highest quality talent in every aspect of their business, including: governance, risk assessment, capital markets, regulatory requirements, communications, finance, geology, drilling, engineering, quality control, consultants, permitting, environmental, and assaying.
Junior mining companies that rely on traditional financings from the high risk/reward venture markets as a way to drive from exploration to production will be severely challenged. Many will not survive.
The bottom line is that only a small number of high-quality miners with a disciplined approach to risk will benefit from the consolidation. Liberty falls into this category.
I invite you to look closely at our team's resumes on our website. Their experience and capabilities cover a broad spectrum that will allow us the means and credibility to fulfill our mandate.
