No. 17 Texas takes on Stanford in Las Vegas – Burnt Orange Nation

Posted: December 19, 2021 at 6:45 pm

The No. 17 Texas Longhorns are in Las Vegas on Sunday to face off against the Stanford Cardinal in the Pac-12 U.S. LBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge at T-Mobile Arena.

The game marks the third top-100 contest for the Longhorns during the non-conference schedule Texas previously lost to Gonzaga and Seton Hall, both true road games. Stanford enters Sundays game at 6-3 with a top-60 win over Oregon and losses to Santa Clara, Baylor, and Colorado.

Leading the way for the Cardinal are 69, 215-pound senior forward Jaiden Delaire and 68, 230-pound freshman forward Harrison Ingram at 12.6 points per game, who also do the most damage on the offensive glass for a team that ranks No. 12 nationally in offensive rebounding.

Delaire ranks in the top-50 nationally in fouls drawn per 40 minutes and free-throw rate, but he doesnt convert at a high rate at the line, hitting only 59.2 percent of his free throws. Ingram is a much better free-throw shooter and overall decision maker with a low turnover rate and an impressive assist rate for a big man. Hes also the teams best dangerous high-volume shooter from beyond the arc.

The Cardinal struggle to avoid turnovers offensively, particularly steals, so the Longhorns have an opportunity to continue playing effective defense. Last week against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Texas only allowed 31 points, the second fewest in school history since the 1949-50 season. The Horns lead the Big 12 in scoring defense, allowing just 53.6 points per game and holding five of the first nine opponents below 50 points.

Offensively, Texas ranks second to last nationally in adjusted tempo, but have protected the basketball, averaging just 10.6 turnovers per game, the fewest turnovers overall in the Big 12, and a 1.41 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Six different Longhorns are averaging between 8.0 and 13.1 points per game and six different players have led Texas in scoring during the first nine games of the 2021-22 season.

KenPom.com predicts a 68-59 win for Texas with a 77-percent win expectancy.

TV: ABCd

Time: 2:00 p.m. Central

Odds: The Longhorns are 10.5-point favorites over the Cardinal, according to DraftKings.

What’s the hottest concert ticket in 2022? Pretty much anything in Las Vegas – USA TODAY

Sting jokes that his Vegas show will be 'better' than Elton John's

Sting chats with USA TODAY's Melissa Ruggieri about his new album "The Bridge," his Las Vegas residency and his "Only Murders in the Building" cameo.

Entertain This!, USA TODAY

In the beginning, it was Celine, an international superstar who upended the notion of Las Vegas as an artistic graveyard.

Her immediate success at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace the $100 million venue constructed to her specificity pioneered an eruption of one-named icons following her precedent: Elton, Cher, Bette, Rod, Reba, Shania, Mariah.

This summer, Usher became the first R&B artistto host a residency at the 4,100-capacity venue and beginning Jan. 21, another single-monikered luminary, Adele, will launch "Weekends with Adele" at The Colosseum through April 15. Herannouncement spurred frenzied ticket buying and an immediate sell-out of the 100,000 tickets available.

In the nearly 20 years since Celine Dion opened A New Day…, which played 717 shows from 2003-2007 before a 2011 return to the venue with Celine, another opus that produced 424 shows, artists as varied as Gwen Stefani, Garth Brooks, Lady Gaga, Aerosmith and Lionel Richie have stationed themselves along the Las Vegas Strip. Eager fans flock to them, anticipating a unique concert experience coupled with thecitys ancillary enticements.

Travel: What to see in Las Vegas

We had to kill the stigma of cradle to grave, said John Meglen, president and co-CEO of AEG Live/Concerts West, which presented Dions shows. If you go back, the concept was about creating a show as much as bringing in a top-name artist. Everyone was in love with O, and Cirque du Soleil was one of the hottest things around the world at the time not that they arent now but everyone talked about this amazing new kind of art with O. That was the through line. As weve told many artists over the years, (think of) that show you couldnt take on the road because its too big or takes too long to set up:Thats the show I want you to do here.

The Las Vegas marketplace continues to expand with new and upgraded venues, and with weekend tourism booming and convention business tenuously returning, the appetite for live productions from top music acts in a stationary setting is renewed.

Starting with Celine and the other artists who followed, theyre trailblazers who believed in the potential and upside of this model and delivered extraordinary shows, said Jason Gastwirth, president of entertainment for Caesars Entertainment. When we launched Britney (Spears) and J.Lo (Jennifer Lopez) at Planet Hollywood, it caught the attention of other artists that this is something I ought to consider. I remember the days when I had to explain to people what a residency was. Now there is huge anticipation for them.

Earlier this month, Carrie Underwood opened the 5,000-capacity Resorts World Theatre with Reflection: The Las Vegas Residency. The christening of the high-techvenue, part of the Resorts World hotel and casino that arrived in June at the north end of the Strip, originally fell to Dion, who was tapped for a monumental return to the city in November.

But in October, the grand dame of residencies announced that severe and persistent muscle spasms were preventing her from rehearsing. Her spate of dates in November, January and February are currently shelved.

Her heart goes on: Celine Dion talks about returning to Las Vegas

Bobby Reynolds, senior vice president of AEG Presents Las Vegas, which books the Resorts World Theatre, said the need to replace those vacant dates was less of a concern than establishing the venues reputation with a relevant act.

I was not interested in filling in a weekend in January because Celine had canceled. Were super-mindful of that theater and the reputation we want to build there, he said. We dont want to sacrifice anything and we dont want to negotiate on the caliber of talent.

Underwoods lavish production which Reynolds says is such a beautiful show that that doesnt exist on the road and couldnt exist on the road includes dates in March, April and May. As she wraps her inaugural run, Katy Perry is warming up the debut of Play, which will debut Dec. 29 with dates through March 19.

The venue has also tapped Luke Bryan for his first residency, arriving in February, and, in a limited run of six dates in April, Michael Bubl.

For several months, Resorts World was the rumored landing spot for Adele, who will reportedly earn more than $2 million per show at her Caesars Palace domain, with each appearance generating about $600,000 per show gross, according to Billboard. In contrast, Dion averaged$654,000 for "Celine" (2011-2019); Elton John's2004-2009 Red Piano spectacle was $673,000; and Spears' Piece of Me at Planet Hollywood (2013-2017) was$555,000, according to Billboard.

Meglen confirmed the Adele talks with Resorts World, but ultimately, We really didnt have the time. We were booked. Shes only doing Fridays and Saturdays, so if Im the property, what are they doing Sunday through Thursday? Now youre going to other artists and saying, You cant have the weekends. Its printing money, so its a matter of how much are you going to print and how are you going to do it?

As everyone from John Fogerty (February and March at Wynn) to John Legend (launching at Planet Hollywood in April) eyes a temporary base camp in Las Vegas affording them the luxuries imbedded in high-end resorts and negating the need for grueling travel the model remains an ideal arrangement for artists and fans.

Were selling more (tickets) now than in 2019 on a nightly basis, said Amanda Moore-Saunders, senior vice president Las Vegas Residencies for Live Nation, which books shows at The Colosseum, Dolby Live at Park MGM and at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, among other venues. The appetite is voracious. This is a market that sells 2 million tickets a week. People want to come to Vegas to have a good time.

Added Scott Sibella, president of Resorts World, Vegas has shifted in the last 10 years and that shift is more than just coming to Vegas to gamble. Were known for the best food in the world, the best retail and the best entertainment. Its not just slot machines and blackjack.

What differentiates a residency from a limited engagement? Is it a distinctive production or merely a detour from a larger tour for a series of dates?

Some of it is industry jargon, but there is a fine line between a residency and a limited engagement, said Moore-Saunders, who applies the limited engagement tag to performances in the three-to-nine show range.

The Doobie Brothers recently announced an eight-date run in May at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood.

Styx is a frequent visitor at The Venetian Theatre, popping in for a handful of shows a couple of times a year (they return for five concerts in January and February with Nancy Wilson of Heart).

Brad Paisley will play two intimateacoustic dates at theEncore Theater at Wynn, which seats around 1,500, in March.

We let the artist decide what they want to do, Moore-Saunderssaid. Whats important is that we impress on fans that its only something theyre going to see in Vegas. You might see Keith Urban do three shows at a time, but its over three years and hes coming back to the same venue. It is a show that is unique that is specific to that room.

Installing the appropriate artist in the appropriate venue is also part of the process when cultivating residencies.

While megastars such as Underwood, Dion, Lady Gaga, Stingand Bruno Mars opt for the spaciousness of Resorts World, Dolby Live at Park MGM, Zappos Theater and The Colosseum which experienced a significant refresh in 2019 others deliberately seek an undersized venue to present fans with a special encounter.

In 2009, Garth Brooks opened a three-year, one-man show at Wynns Encore Theatre (hell be back in February for two nights of a similarly stripped presentation at Dolby Live). One of musics most ferocious live performers who routinely packs stadiums sought to offer diehards simple, unvarnished takes on his music as well as influential covers.

This is the kind of room that gives you the feel of old Las Vegas, that you could see the fans, said Brian Gullbrants, president of Wynn Las Vegas. Lionel (Richie, who returns in January) was great, interacting with fans and letting them ask questions of him. Garth had many a night when he would take requests and do a Q&A. Hes an amazing storyteller and it was a lot like the old MTV Unplugged. Theres not a lot of places you could have his stardom and fame and still allow for such interaction with fans.

As Las Vegas continues its pandemic-era rebound and international travel an important sector with artists such as Adele and Dion inches back, there is a seemingly unlimited market for artists to stake their turf, regardless of the longevity of their campaigns.

Kurt Melien, president ofLiveNationLas Vegas, is especially optimistic with ambitions on Vegas dominating the landscape.

Now its, 'How do we become bigger than any city in the world as the capital of live music?' Its already the residency capital, so the idea now is were the live music capital, he said. It used to be Cirque and Celine and its so much more than those now.

All-American left guard moving on after the Las Vegas Bowl – Badgers Wire

Posted: at 6:45 pm

Former in-state walk-on Josh Seltzner has chosen not return to UW for his additional season of eligibility. Instead, Seltzner will be pursuing an NFL career after a memorable final season at Wisconsin.

Josh Seltzner entered fall camp with no assurances of a starting spot. He was in a position battle with fellow interior offensive lineman Cormac Sampson and Michael Furtney. Seltzner ultimately wound up winning the job and starting 11 of Wisconsins 12 games at left guard.

Seltzner became one of Wisconsins most dependable lineman. and helped provide stability to an offensive line that struggled early in the season. Most notably, Josh Seltzner didnt allow a single sack in 244 total pass blocking snaps, while allowing just 9 total pressures on the season.

Overall, you couldnt have asked for a better season from the former walk-on. His on-field performance garnered national recognition and was ultimately recognized by being named a third-team All-American, as well as First-team All-Big Ten.

SB Reacts: Las Vegas Raiders fans belief in the teams direction drops by 15 percent – Silver And Black Pride

Posted: at 6:45 pm

The Las Vegas Raiders continue their slide into the abyss with the 48-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Both sides of the football had a terrible day with five turnovers and the Chiefs going 9/13 on third down on the day.

With the team on a tumble, the season's outlook is appearing grim. That's why fans continue to drop their belief in the football team. Now, only 17 percent of Raiders fans believe they are headed in the right direction.

It has been an ugly stretch since the departure of Henry Ruggs III, with both sides of the ball falling apart. The Raiders have to find their footing to save their season this week vs. the Cleveland Browns.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Raiders are +3 underdogs heading into their matchup in Cleveland on Monday. Las Vegas attempts to save the season once again.

We will see how they respond, especially with the war of words with Browns pushing the game back. It will be a good battle in the cold.

Local product Tyler Johnson looking forward to one last hurrah with his teammates in Las Vegas Bowl – The Arizona Republic

Posted: at 6:45 pm

Arizona State running back Rachaad White won't be playing in the Las Vegas Bowl, having opted out to prepare for the NFL draft. So did cornerbacks Chase Lucas and Jack Jones.

Defensive end Tyler Johnson, however, has bucked the trend of his teammates and NFL prospects from other schools who have chosen to sit out the season end game.

So when the Sun Devils (8-4, 6-3 in Pac-12 ) take to the field on Dec. 30 at Allegiant Stadium at the Las Vegas Bowl against Big 10 representative Wisconsin (8-4, 6-3 in Big 10), Johnson will be ready to go.

"Taking the opportunity and taking advantage of what I still have. I don't see a reason for me not to play," Johnson said after practice earlier this week. "Also, one of those deals I feel it can still help me with the process after I leave from here. I also want to continue playing with the guys I've been playing next to all season."

The contest will be the last in a Sun Devil uniform for the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder who signed with ASU out of Highland High School in 2017.

He has excelled the last two years after making the move from linebacker. And unlike early in his career, Johnson hasn't had to play through nagging injuries that even forced him to retire, although he ultimately decided to return a few months later.

This season the local product managed 33 tackles, four sacks, three passes defended and two fumble recoveries. He was the Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week on Oct. 11 for his showing in ASU's 28-10 win over Stanford.

He was the only Sun Devil named to the Pac-12 first team selected by the coaches at season's end. While he may not have reached some of the individual goals he set for himself, he says he put in the effort to be content enough with the outcome.

"I can still look back at the season and say I tried my best and I had great group of guys on the defensive side that always held me accountable" he aid. "We did stuff together. We fought throughout games whether we were down of up. After the season when I self reflected, I didn't reach my personal goals but I'm still OK with how it ended."

Robert Rodriguez became the sixth defensive line coach in as many years when he stepped in two years ago and began working with Johnson, the team's most effective rusher.

Rodriguez is noted as a stickler for technique and Johnson says he worked hard at perfecting his footwork and hand placement, among other things.

Johnson has made a lot of big plays in his ASU tenure, one of those coming in the Territorial Cup victory over Arizona when he recovered a fumble at the Wildcats 1, with the Sun Devils capitalizing for a touchdown two plays later.

Sometimes players are resistant at change, particularly when they have had success previously. Rodriguez worked through that with his player, who has seen the rewards of what can happen when you give in to the process.

"I tell the joke all the time to our players I say guys, Tyler is one of those guys that he wakes up in the morning, he opens up the covers and theres a football there. The football finds him and its like nothing Ive ever seen before," Rodriguez said. "So its hard sometimes when Im asking him to do the difficult things I ask him to do, for him to say, Yeah. Completely commit. Tyler has slowly but surely just figured it out. It happens for a lot of people. Some people never do because theyre just so stuck in their ways and its not malicious, it wasnt a bad thing, but he has consciously tried to work on himself, work on his mindset, work on those aspects. Its like fighting nature. Hes really fighting his natural way of thinking and doing things, so youre rewiring him."

Head coach Herm Edwards has had players opt out of bowl games in the past, most notably wide receivers N'Keal Harry and Brandon Aiyuk, both of whom became first round draft picks. Running back Eno Benjamin, now with the Arizona Cardinals, opted out his junior year too.

Edwards understands the decision each player has to make.

I think its become a part of it now, and you see lots of these guys opting out to not play in bowl games. When I first got here, we talked about it, some of the guys who decided not to, so you want them to play, but a lot of these guys have been preparing themselves for the draft, and I understand that," he said. "Its a business decision youve got to make, and thats fine.

The Sun Devils have been a little short-handed on the defensive line all season with the losses of three-technique tackle Jermayne Lole and end Travez Moore with Lole going down before the season started.

So the coach is happy to have Johnson in the fold for one last game.

I think it says how much he loves being a Sun Devil," Rodriguez said. "It was an emotional game for him, Arizona, (senior defensive lineman) Shannon Forman the same thing, (junior defensive lineman) Corey Stephens, DJ Davidson all of them, and hes got love for this place and for the people, all the Sun Devil fans. Its genuine. And thats what shows. It also shows that he does love us and he loves his teammates and all that stuff.

Linebacker Darien Butler and nose tackle D.J Davidson have accepted invitations to the East-West Shrine game to be played on Feb. 3 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Butler had not publicly declared whether or not he would return next season but his appearance in that game would indicate he plans to enter the NFL draft. Butler, the team's second-leading tackler, has been practicing with the team in preparation for the bowl game.

Cornerback Chase Lucas, who has opted out of the bowl game, earlier accepted an invite to the same bowl game.

Senior right guardHenry Hattisreturned to practice for the first time in nearly a month. He missed the last three games of the regular season and had not participated in the first two bowl practices but is trying to get back in game form.

Center Dohnovan West is out after having hand surgery so the offensive line the first two practices featured freshmanBen Scottat center, sophomoreJarrett Bellat right guard and sophomoreSpencer Lovellat right tackle in addition to the normal starters in left guard LaDarius Henderson and left tackle Kellen Diesch.

Las Vegas dumps McCarran, unveils Harry Reid International Airport – Las Vegas Review-Journal

Posted: December 17, 2021 at 10:53 am

A new era in Las Vegas took flight Tuesday as McCarran airport was officially rebranded as Harry Reid International Airport.

The name change in honor of the longest serving U.S. senator in Nevada history was made official at a ceremony Tuesday morning that included dignitaries such as Gov. Steve Sisolak, members of the Reid family and Carlos Monje, undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Nevada Sen. Jacky Rosen chimed in via video while Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto sent a recorded video message.

Reid, serving from 1987-2017, wasnt able to attend the ceremony, but released a statement about what the monumental occasion meant to him.

For my whole life Ive been coming and going from McCarran Airport, since the first time I ever got on a plane, back in 1958, Reid said in the statement. This airport has been my gateway to the world. During my 35 years in Washington, I was here a lot. Home means Nevada, and for me, the airport long ago became synonymous with home.

A person close to the situation said the 82-year-old Reid and his wife decided not to attend the event because of the ongoing threat of COVID-19. Reid was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018.

Tuesday was a long time coming for Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, who played a vital role in the renaming process. Segerblom led a years-long push, highlighting McCarrans controversial history, one that included racist, anti-Semetic and xenophobic stances.

Sen. McCarran in retrospect was not a perfect human being and did a lot and said a lot of bad things, Segerblom said. To remove his name from what is now the multicultural center of the United States is very important. We are not the Nevada Sen. McCarran worked at or lived in. We are a very multicultural, diverse, a multiracial, a multi-ethnic city.

Segerblom led the push to rename the airport at the county level, which resulted in the unanimous approval by the Clark County Commission in February. He previously attempted to get the name swap process started at the state level during his time as a state senator.

Sisolak took a flight to Las Vegas from Carson City to attend the event, marking the last trip he would take to the airport with the McCarran name.

I was by no means surprised when I heard that the commission voted unanimously to rename the airport in honor of Sen. Reid, Sisolak said. It brings me great pride knowing that millions of people from around the world visiting our state will be greeted by our amazing hospitality and by the name Harry Reid International Airport. While some passengers may or may not know this outstanding national leader, the state of Nevada will never forget his legacy and were more than proud to bear the name of a person who has done so much for the entire state of Nevada.

Work to ready the airport for the name unveiling has been occurring at local, state and federal levels.

That included the county setting up a bank account to raise money for the rebrand as no taxpayer funds were to be used. That fund reached $4.2 million in October, allowing planning for the first of three phases of physical work to begin. An additional $2.8 million needs to be collected to carry out the two other phases of work at the airport.

Digital signage in and around the airport was changed to reflect the Reid name at the start of Tuesdays ceremony. The airport also updated its social media accounts early Tuesday morning, removing McCarran and adding the Harry Reid name ahead of the ceremony.

Two renderings of planned signs were unveiled Tuesday, one with light features planned for near Tropicana Avenue and Paradise Road and another depicting the Terminal 1 North porte cochere. However, there is no concrete timetable on when work may begin to remove the old signage and install the new versions.

Harry Reids eldest son, Rory Reid, said tying his dads name with one of Las Vegas main drivers of visitors made too much sense given both of their beginnings.

My dad was born in a two-room shack in a lonely spot in the Southern Nevada desert. All he had was a work ethic and a small circle of people that loved him, Reid said. Despite that he rose. He became a dominant national political figure, unlike any other in Nevadas history. Likewise this city was born in a lonely spot in the Southern Nevada desert. It too relied on the grit and determination of a small circle of people that believed that they could create a future. And because of them this is the entertainment capital of the world. So its understandable that we would name this airport, the lifeblood of our communitys economy after that man, in this place.

Suspect in 2 unsolved Las Vegas sexual assaults arrested when he arrives in New York – KLAS – 8 News Now

Posted: at 10:53 am

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) A man linked to two unsolved sexual assault cases in Las Vegas was arrested when he arrived at the John F. Kennedy Airport on a flight from Singapore.

Custom and Border Protection agents took 40-year-old Zeng Lin into custody on Nov. 28 on two arrest warrants issued out of Las Vegas. Lin has been extradited to Las Vegas and is currently at the Clark County Detention Center.

DNA evidence linked Lin to two sexual assault cases that occurred in 2015 and 2018. Cold case investigators learned Lin was living out of the country and issued arrest warrants.

Homeland Security Investigations learned Lin would be flying from Singapore to New York. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police coordinated with New York law enforcement officials to arrest Lin.

The DNA evidence, in this case, was found because of testing made possible through the National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative which aims to reduce the backlog of untested older sexual assault kits.

Police urge anyone who may have been a victim of Lins or has information about his crimes to contact LVMPD Sex Offender Apprehension Program at (702) 828-3421. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.

Mr. Las Vegas returning to the Strip after nearly 2 years – Las Vegas Review-Journal

Posted: at 10:53 am

Mr. Las Vegas is back on the Las Vegas Strip on Jan. 24.

Wayne Newtons Wayne: Up Close and Personal is back Jan 24, running for select dates at Wayne Newton Theater inside Bugsys Cabaret. Newtons tickets start at $79, not including fees, on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at http://www.caesars.com/shows. Shows are at 7 p.m.

Newton is onstage for four dates in January, and runs through the end of June. The Flamingo is where Newton actually began his showroom career in 1963.

It took me long enough to get back here, right? Newton said in a phone chat Thursday. Ive finally come full circle.

The 79-year-old Newton has not performed in his adopted home town since March 2020. He was due back last October. Not surprisingly, the absence from a Vegas stage is the longest of Newtons career.

Starting at the age I did, as a kid, and working so consistently, I was never asked to take two years off, Newton said. Im not alone among the entertainers who had to take a lot of time off. For me, its been a learning experience.

Newton jokes that he attempted to become a handyman around the house. But the entertainer who can play 13 instruments is not so adept with, say, a power drill.

My wife (Kathleen Newton) has been calling people to undo the things that Ive been working on, Newton said. We have a lot of workmen coming in to do fix what Ive been fixing.

Newton cited chronic back pain from an injury and surgery he underwent late this summer. The Vegas legend had an operation on his back in August to repair two vertebrae, after falling at his Montana ranch. His first show back was Saturday night at Robins Theatre in Warren, Ohio.

The real challenge is coming back to the lineup of the show, what is next, what video is coming, Newton said. Just remembering what the continuity is not an easy thing. It was second nature, but it needs to be re-learned when youve been down so long.

Newton will return with his core band of music director and drummer Marc Atkinson, keyboardist Mariano Longo and bassist Danny DeMorales. He might add a guitarist, or banjo player.

Up Close and Personal presents Newton in an intimate setting, interacting with the audience while performing some of his classics dating to Danke Schoen in 1963. He also takes part in an audience Q&A.

Newton still plans to run videos over the course of his career, and add some storytelling.

Ive actually found some videos that I havent seen before, Newton said. So it will be different for the audience, and somewhat different for me, too.

Newton had previously headlined at Cleopatras Barge at Caesars Palace. That venue was closed for all of its shows in May, but Newton was retained as a Caesars Entertainment headliner. Hes now alternating dates with the Stabile Productions topless show X Burlesque.

The Bugsys venue is known as Wayne Newton Theater when Newton headlines, and X Burlesque Theater when the adult revue is onstage. This is similar to the setup for when Piff the Magic Dragon was toggling times with X Burlesque, with his entrance on one side of the theater, opposite the X show. Piff has since moved into Flamingo Showroom.

On Wednesday, Newton sent word of congratulations to his longtime friend and former U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, for whom Las Vegas international airport has been named. The Clark County Commissions unanimous decision to rename the former McCarran International Airport went into effect this week.

Newton and Reid joined forces to create the USO Lounge at then-McCarran. The rest stop for active-duty military personnel opened in August 2010. Of course, the main thoroughfare leading to Reid International is named for Newton.

I congratulate my dear friend, Newton said. Who would have thought, when we were just kids, that Harry Reid Airport would be on Wayne Newton Boulevard? We are forever together.

The announcement also falls a day after the NFL announced Super Bowl LVIII would be held in Las Vegas in February 2024. Asked if hed want to play some ceremonial role in the proceedings (the coin-flip, for instance), Newton said, Oh, Id be love to be involved somehow, sure. Id just be honored to be in the stadium to watch the game (laughs). Its going to be something else.

Cool Hang Alert

Hometown Holiday Hits, an alliterative adventure, is performing 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee, at Suncoast Showroom. This show is a partnership of the Swing It Girls and Doo Wop Kings vocal groups of Las Vegas. The tunes hearken to such Christmas classics as Jingle Bells, White Christmas and Here Comes Santa Claus. Tickets start at $29 at ticketmaster.com. Give em a jingle.

Blue Bell Ice Cream returning to Southern Nevada in spring 2022 – KTNV Las Vegas

Posted: at 10:53 am

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) Blue Bell Creameries reports it is expanding its distribution area and returning to Southern Nevada.

It has always been our goal to return to Las Vegas, said Jimmy Lawhorn, vice president of sales and marketing for Blue Bell. We plan to make our arrival just as the temperatures start rising.

Blue Bell representatives say the company is in the process of building a 14,000-square-foot distribution facility located in Henderson with plans of distribution starting spring of 2022.

We will be servicing stores located in Clark and Nye counties, Lawhorn said. Many residents are already familiar with Blue Bell, but we hope to reach even more new consumers with our return.

The company says it will also begin hiring for several positions including driver salesperson, office manager, office clerks, shipping clerks and merchandisers.

No store locations have been currently released, but ice cream fans can expect to find Blue Bell at most major supermarkets and drug stores when it returns to the area, according to the company.

Blue Bell Ice Cream is headquartered in Brenham, Texas, and all products are made at its three manufacturing facilities located in Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama.

The 114-year-old company has a large fanbase despite its products being sold in only 22 states. Nevada will become the 23rd state with the addition of Las Vegas next year.
