The prettiest new restaurants that opened in Las Vegas in 2021 – Eater Vegas

Posted: at 4:53 pm

Local restaurants and bars alike debuted beautiful new spaces in Las Vegas over the past year, and many embraced original artwork and murals to anchor them. Restaurants found ways to incorporate trees indoors, pay homage to the Amalfi Coast, and even add some plants in the form of cacti, whether live or on the wallpaper. Creative uses of LED remained a powerful Vegas motif, as did lush colors and fabrics for chair and banquette design. Read on to see some of the prettiest new restaurants to open in Las Vegas in 2021, both on and off the Strip.

Opened: February 2021

The Look: Emporium Arcade Bar opened at Area15 in February filled with two floors of classic arcade favorites, pool tables, pinball, foosball, basketball, and more spread over 10,000 square feet. Co-founder Daniel Marks tapped local art consultancy Unravel Artistic Consulting to bring on 13 artists, mostly from Las Vegas, to decorate the space with murals. Works feature UNLV students Brian Martinez, Sam Rose, and Sonny Tsoi, as well as UNLV graduate Chris Mempin and adjunct professor Erik Beehn. Other Las Vegas artists include Pasheone, Krie, Cerissa Lopez, Mr. Gums, Bronson Taylor, and JW Caldwell. Two notable non-local artists, Allison Bamcat and Rif Raf Giraffe, also have work at the venue.

Opened: March

The Look: The new 9,000-square-foot steakhouse at Virgin Hotels practically blends into the casino floor with an inviting open entrance, dreamy lighting in the lounge that morphs colors through the night, and a handsome dining room with distinctly feminine touches to give it a whimsical air. One Steakhouse features a stunning LED light over the lounge with more than 3,000 pieces of glass that gradually change from white to pink to purple and more. The dining room melds handsome woods with whimsical pieces of art, including cloches with mystical pieces inside.

Opened: May

The Look: Celebrity chef Bobby Flays Italian seafood restaurant at Caesars Palace takes its inspiration from his trips to the Amalfi Coast. The restaurant, Amalfi by Bobby Flay, spans 9,000 square feet right off the casino floor. Flay tapped Olivia Jane Design & Interiors to create the look of Amalfi with a natural palette and touches of greenery throughout. Organic fabrics, stone, and wood materials decorate the four spaces inside. Flays favorite touch, though, is the 30-seat bar and 40-seat lounge area that practically glow with a limestone mosaic floor and teak wood beams. Dont miss the Amalfi Coast-inspired blue and white chairs in the lounge, which are a nod to the swarms of striped umbrellas and chairs sprawled across the beaches there, he says.

Opened: June

The Look: Stadia Bar at Caesars Palace pays homage to basketball, football, and baseball with room for 120 in a 2,186-square-foot space designed by Rockwell Group. The floor uses recycled basketball court wood, while five VIP domes come wrapped in leather that looks like a vintage leather football helmet. The domes are lined with a metal mesh and artwork by San Francisco-based artist and mural painter Apexer. Other sports-inspired design details include net-like chandeliers, sconces that look like deconstructed baseballs, and glove-like leather banquettes.

Opened: June

The Look: Brezza, Italian for breeze, embraces that ambiance with a patio with room for 100 overlooking the Las Vegas Strip at Resorts World. The restaurant features mosaic tile flooring imported from Italy and olive trees on the terrace salvaged from the Stardust, which once stood on this spot. Inside, the restaurant features rustic stone walls and floor-to-ceiling windows with views from the 200-seat main dining room. A small patio at the indoor entrance offers a prime view for people-watching.

Opened: June

The Look: Celebrated Los Angeles chef Ray Garcias Mexican restaurant Viva! at Resorts World used Celano Design Studio to create the look of the space in conjunction with local architect Marnell Companies. A large mural by artists Chalk & Brush anchors the indoor patio, while outside, diners can sit on the people-watching patio that overlooks Las Vegas Boulevard. Some of the beautiful touches to the space include an exploding flower infinity mirror that doubles as an art installation. Behind the main bar sits a bottle display influenced by the architecture of ancient ruins around Mexico. Anchoring the dining room, a dazzling driftwood sculpture resembling a tree in bloom. On the indoor patio, a vibrant mural designed by Miami-based Chalk & Brush, inspired by the culture, landscape, architecture, and patterns of Mexico, acts as a backdrop for the bar. A private dining room showcases Viva!s exclusive tequila and mezcal collection.

Opened: July

The Look: One of the most anticipated restaurant openings of 2021 offers a stunning design that transports diners to an opulent 1950s supper club. Delilah, from L.A.s H.wood Group at Wynn Las Vegas and Eater Vegass Eater Award winner for design of the year, brings a decadent supper club that tips its hat to the golden era of entertainment and dining. Todd-Avery Lenahan, president and chief creative officer of Wynn Design & Development, created the look of Delilah, taking cues from the original location in Los Angeles, regal supper clubs of the past, and a safari trip to Africa. At the front, Little Bubble Bar, a 34-seat intimate lounge with settees upholstered in vintage Herms fabric. A sweeping set of staircases adorned with bronze sculptures that were commissioned for Delilah funnel down to the Anchor Bar with its view of the stage, brass palms trees, and vintage feel. Overhead, the ceilings use more than 30 hand-finished plaster molding segments. Seating uses embossed silk velvets, French linens from Pierre Frey and Hermes Rich, piano-finish walnut burl with ebony inlay on the walls, and more than three dozen commissioned paintings and sculptures along with vintage cubist works from around the world. Outdoor courtyards use lanterns for lighting and 75-year-old magnolia trees.

Opened: July

The Look: Money, Baby! at Virgin Hotels combines a sportsbook with food from Food Network star and culinary director chef Beau MacMillan and an experience courtesy of industry veterans and co-founders Justin Massei and Mikis Troyan of Clive Collective. Davis Ink created the look of the 15,000-square-foot space that serves as an adult playground with a mid-century modern style. Customers walk through a tunnel adorned with hexagon lights before reaching a magical pink tree forest with custom cutout leaves, happy face graffiti, funky geometric fencing, and a graphic ceiling. The space features a 5,500-square-foot patio overlooking the propertys resort pools. Diners can play cornhole and lawn games or sit by the firepits.

Opened: August

The Look: Restaurateur Tony Nguyen and chef Louross Edralin, who appeared on Season 4 of Hells Kitchen, offer vegetarian dishes at Chinatowns Saffron. The atmosphere brings together serenity and stability in the 90-seat dining room with a private dining area. A pond flowing through a hand-made basin anchors the room, crowned with a statue made in Vietnam exclusively for the restaurant. East Asian wood-carved accents and large murals decorate the space.

Opened: August

The Look: Jeffrey Weiss transformed Valencian Gold into a posh Spanish tapas restaurant filled with ornate gold features and vintage accents. He stokes the fires with holm oak, almond, and orange woods ignited by a rifle-shaped flamethrower for the restaurants paella. Artists from Las Vegas-based ISI Group and Valencian street artist Xolaka, a notable muralist who traveled from Spain to Las Vegas just for the commission, created the murals. Diners can find the visage of Salvador Dal through, along with paella pan art by local Las Vegas artist MoreEnvyOne.

Opened: September

The Look: Peyote, a 2021 opening in Downtown Las Vegas from Corner Bar Management, brings a laid-back vibe, desert modernism, and pastel pops of color that seem like theyre right out of a psychedelic version of Coachella-esque Southern California. The patio comes dotted with more than 200 cactus and succulents, light mint green tables, bubblegum pink chairs, and the centerpiece: a firepit surrounded by a semi-circle of pink seating and wooden Adirondack chairs. A custom 3D-mapped LED bistro-light installation created by San Francisco-based artist Keegan Arthur Olton brings the patio to life by night. Inside, the 3,400-square-foot interior brings together a neon sign that says, Youre a daisy if you do, a fashionable phrase that dates back to the late 1870s. An eclectic collection of paintings from artists such as Brazilian artist Rafael Silveira and French contemporary artist Bruno Pontiroli decorate the walls with a cyclops carrying a woman, a hippo practically swallowing a person, a blank mans face with a pink flamingo, a tree with parrots, a woman with blue hair and flowers on her face, and more. More boxes with succulents, floral displays, a mosaic tile under the bar, exposed vents, and metal and wood stools outfit the space.

Opened: September

The Look: Walking through Superfrico feels like a trip to a museum. The new Italian-American restaurant at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas combines the wit of Opium, the show next door from Spiegelworld, and the imagination of a supper club. Art consultant Heather Harmon worked with Superfricos creative team to expand Spiegelworlds art collection and fill the restaurants walls, reflecting the companys circus roots and its passion for handcrafted, repurposed, and one-of-a-kind works. Inside the Artery, a collection of art includes Adehla Lees Psycho Pop Party, a candy-colored acrylic painting and the first work to be commissioned for Superfrico. Paranormal Activity by Tiza serves as a neon companion piece to the Purple Lodge, the Twin Peaks/Lynchian-inspired entrance to the Opium Theatre next to Superfrico. Diners can also find more than 20 action figures created by Morgan Philips (also known as The Sucklord) based on the Opium characters.

Opened: November

The Look: Boom Bang Fine Foods & Cocktails from Top Chef alum Elia Aboumrad-Page, Christian Page, and Tony Angotti brings a fun pop of the desert to Henderson. Evolve Interiors Corri Backman, longtime friend of the married chefs Aboumrad-Page and Page, designed Boom Bangs interior with vibrant cactus wallpaper and a palette of green, orange, and bright yellow. A green ceiling makes the space feel full and finished while dialing in on that cactus green color. A long, cushioned banquette lines the perimeter to soften the space with bare wooden tables and wood floor, and Aboumrad-Page covered the tabletops in buttons from her fathers haberdashery in Mexico City,

COVID-19 surge in Las Vegas creating lack of testing options – KLAS – 8 News Now

Posted: at 4:53 pm

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) With the omicron variant spreading rapidly, people across the valley are scrambling to find free Covid-19 testing. On Saturday, the Southern Nevada Health District announced the highest number of COVID-19 cases reported in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic.

There have been 392,971 cases of COVID-19 reported in Clark County, an increase of over 6,000 cases from the previous day. In addition, the Health District is reporting 15 deaths.

One of my co-workers struggled for three days to find a place to test, and they ended up getting it, but we are still waiting on the result. Its frustrating,Araceli Gamboa said.

Arda Jackson, who arrived in line early at the YMCA Centennial Hills location, was turned away 30 minutes later after being told that they had run out of tests.

My frustration is that they werent even open for an hour, and they ran out of tests, Jackson said. These people have to have some common sense that more than 30 people were going to want this test.

As for free COVID-19 testing elsewhere, the Sam Boyd Stadiumsite opened on Sunday, Jan. 9th. The drive-thru Covid-19 testing site will be in the stadiums parking lot, located off Russell Road and Broadbent Boulevard.

Hours of operation will be from 5:30 p.m. till 10:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday.

Las Vegas out of running for 2024 Republican National Convention as list of finalists released – KLAS – 8 News Now

Posted: at 4:53 pm

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) Las Vegas didnt make the cut for potential sites for the 2024 Republican National Convention.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) on Friday released a list of finalists: Milwaukee, Nashville, Pittsburgh and Salt Lake City.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman said in September that Las Vegas was interested in being the host city.

The Republican National Committee is grateful for and appreciative of the overwhelming interest from cities across the country to host the 2024 Republican National Convention. Well continue the process, review bids, and communicate with potential hosts to hear more about what their cities have to offer, said RNC Chief of Staff Richard Walters.

The RNC met with interested cities on Oct. 26 in Washington D.C. before narrowing the list.

In September, Goodman said, No one does conventions and conferences better than Las Vegas does, and our community is ready for this major economic boost.

The three-day convention is expected to bring an economic impact of about $200 million to benefit the host city as delegates and media converge for the high-profile event.

Committee staff will be traveling to the four finalists to confirm that these cities are viable to host and will narrow the selection down to three cities, according to an RNC statement Friday.

Goodman, a Republican, said Las Vegas should be considered as a site for the Democratic National Convention, too.

Las Vegas mother pleads guilty by reason of insanity to 3-month-old sons death – KLAS – 8 News Now

Posted: at 4:53 pm

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) A mother who investigators said killed her 3-month-old son by throwing him from a staircase pleaded guilty by reason of insanity in court Friday.

Xin Liu killed her son, Stanley Shah, on Sept. 1, 2020, at a home near Desert Inn and Fort Apache roads, police said.

Liu pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter by reason of insanity and child abuse, according to a court spokesperson.

The Clark County Coroner had said Stanley had a squishy skull with crepitus, meaning the baby had multiple skull fractures.

According to the initial arrest report, a woman had called 911 saying Liu had intentionally dropped her baby from the second floor of a home to the first floor and that the baby was not breathing.

Family members told police Liu suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts of killing Stanley and herself. The report said they tried to get her help and even hired a nanny to watch the baby.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for May.

Funding drive for Las Vegas first Super Bowl kicks off this week – Las Vegas Review-Journal

Posted: at 4:53 pm

The first-ever Las Vegas Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium is more than two years away, but organizers already have started planning what could be the largest single-event economic boom in the citys history.

The host committee for the 2024 Super Bowl needs $60 million to prepare for the game and related festivities. On Tuesday, the nonprofit will ask the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board of directors for up to $40 million of that total. The other $20 million is expected to be collected through fundraising.

Representatives of the LVCVA, which is funded largely by hotel room taxes, declined comment until Tuesdays meeting.

The Super Bowl host committee for last years game reported a total economic impact of $571.9 million and 4,597 full- and part-time jobs for the Tampa, Florida, area when it hosted Super Bowl LV.

The $60 million in seed money for Super Bowl LVIII, scheduled for Feb. 11, 2024, is required by the NFL, which has staged its championship game at several different cities around the country over the years.

The Super Bowl wont be Las Vegas first partnership with the NFL. The LVCVA board of directors in February 2020 approved up to $2.4 million to host the NFL draft in Las Vegas. The city was to host the draft in April 2020, but the outbreak of COVID-19 postponed that party until this year.

The board also approved up to $1.75 million in July 2020 to host the 2022 Pro Bowl, which will be played at Allegiant Stadium on Feb. 6.

Its important to note that the host committee isnt looking to spend money just for the game itself.

At least a week of festivities will lead up to the game, including a Super Bowl Experience Fan Fest; a media center and media party for more than 6,000 working members of the national and international press covering the week from Las Vegas; Opening Night and NFL Honors live television broadcasts; a live entertainment and concert series; sponsor activations; corporate hospitality events; and other activities that will drive tourism to the city and cast an international spotlight showcasing Las Vegas as the sports and entertainment capital of the world.

The NFL has penciled out $20.8 million for direct operating costs. Those include:

$3.85 million in staff costs.

$3 million in sponsorship fulfillment collateral and promotional materials.

$3 million toward public safety, including police, fire and emergency services.

$2.7 million in advertising, marketing and decor.

$1.65 million for media, public relations and hospitality.

$1.6 million for other expenses like office space, professional services and insurance.

$5 million for contingencies.

There are event-related costs of $39.2 million. Those include:

$17 million reimbursement to the NFL.

$6 million in stadium costs.

$2 million for hotels and meeting spaces.

$2.5 million for parking and transportation.

$2.2 million for Super Bowl events.

$5 million for tickets and suites.

$1.25 million for volunteers.

$750,000 for permits.

$1.5 million for other expenses, including practice facilities, technology and an accreditation center.

$1 million for contingencies.

The host committee, chaired by Allegiant Travel Co. CEO Maury Gallagher, will oversee the full-time temporary staff members who will be hired to execute Las Vegas obligations hosting Super Bowl LVIII. The LVCVA, working with the host committee, will serve as a liaison between the NFL, resort and community stakeholders and local governmental agencies.

Its clear that with a Super Bowl on the calendar, the publics significant investment in Allegiant Stadium will more than pay off within two years. By now, everyone should know the facility isnt just for the Raiders although the NFL worlds eyes will be on Allegiant for Sundays prime-time, do-or-die game between the Raiders and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Allegiant Stadium is the go-to venue for dozens of special events that help drive the valleys economic prosperity.

Just give me the keys: Several cars, $11,000 stolen in Las Vegas-area carjacking spree – KLAS – 8 News Now

Posted: at 4:53 pm

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) Three people have been arrested in connection with a robbery crime spree in the valley, Las Vegas Metro police said.

Police arrested Avian Wells, Kyree Thomas, and a minor connected with the spree.

Police said the trio is involved in four armed robberies, including one incident at MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

On Nov. 24 around 4 p.m., a person reported to police that his vehicle was stolen by several men while he was pumping gas at the Terribles gas station at 4701 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

The victim told police that he drove his daughters car to get gas. When he started to clean the windows, four males between the ages of 18-21 years old approached him, he said. One of them asked if he had any money.

The victim told the suspect that he did not have any money. A second suspect approached him from behind, reached into his front pocket, and took his car keys.

The males got into the victims vehicle and drove off.

At approximately 8 p.m., an unmarked LVMPD vehicle observed the car parked across the street from 900 Doolittle Street.

Police detectives started following the car. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Las Vegas and Lamb boulevards, the suspects refused to comply and a pursuit began.

The pursuit continued north on Las Vegas Boulevard to I-15. Speeds reached over 100 miles, police said.

The car exited onto Cheyenne, heading west and then south on Revere. The pursuit ended in front of 1733 N. Curran Way. All three suspects fled the vehicle, and officers initiated a foot pursuit.

The first suspect, Avian Wells, and the second suspect, a 16-year-old male, were taken into custody. The third suspect ran off.

A lanyard with a Mercedes car key was found nearby, where the second suspect was arrested.

During a search of the area, police found also found a couple of handguns and several rounds. The lanyard and key were confirmed to a victim whose car was robbed from MGM a day prior.

On Nov. 23, a person had called police, saying she was robbed at gunpoint of her vehicle while she was on the third floor of MGM Grand Hotel and Casino parking garage.

The victim told police that she parked her vehicle and walked around to the passenger side when she was approached by one of the suspects.

The suspect said to the victim, Just give me the keys! The victim and the suspect wrestled over the keys before the man took out a black revolver and put it at her back. One of the suspects then called over the others to help wrestle her to the ground before taking her car keys and fleeing in the car.

Later that day, police found the car with its engine running and all four doors open on the east side of Doolittle Park, located at 1950 J St.

On Nov. 21, a victim called police saying his vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint at 1327 H St.

The victim told police that he and his nephew were approached by three males, two with handguns. The other had a black revolver and was told to get out of his vehicle while their mother made a Door Dash delivery.

On Nov 24., a victim walked out of the Subway restaurant at 1735 W. Craig Road in North Las Vegas when one of the suspects came from behind and showed a revolver. The victim doesnt speak English, but understood he was being robbed.

The victim told police that they stole his Louis Vuitton satchel. The pouch is worth $2,500-$3,000. The bag had many things in it, including $11,050 in cash, Dolce Gabbana sunglasses, condoms, and several credit and gift cards.

After his arrest, Wells told police that he played basketball at Fountain Park with Thomas and two unnamed males on Nov 24. Later in the day, Wells, Thomas, and the juvenile walked to the Terribles gas station and planned to rob someone.

Wells claimed they picked the car because the driver pumping gas appeared not to be paying attention.

Wells and the 16-year-old suspect were arrested on Nov. 24. Thomas was arrested the next day for his alleged involvement in the serial robbery spree.

All three of them were re-arrested on Dec. 15 in connection with the North Las Vegas robbery.
