A big part of dining on the Las Vegas Strip is the dining room itself. Your surroundings can have an enormous effect on the overall experience, and thats absolutely the case at NoMad Library. The name says it all: Its a large, four-walled room, populated by books which were collected from a wide variety of sources (including the David & Peggy Rockefeller Auction). All the books have been arranged by color (reds on one side, blues on the other) for a pleasant visual contrast, and all can be plucked from the shelves for reading enjoyment.
Adding to the relaxing feel of this space are the seating arrangements themselves. Red leather banquettes are extremely comfortable, and soft lighting from chandeliers only enhances the ambience. Add in amazing service and you have an experience youll be recommending to all your family and friends.
And we havent even gotten to the menu yet! Make sure to start your evening with one of the signature cocktails, from the Runyon Canyon (a tiki-ish delight made with Elyx vodka, vermouth di Torino, amontillado sherry, cranberries and lime) to the Gentlemens Exchange (a variation on the Manhattan with rye, Suze, Foro Amaro, vermouth Di Torino, coffee, absinthe and Angostura bitters).
The menu is loaded with tempting choices, but we definitely recommend the NoMad roast chicken, so succulent and flavorful, stuffed with foie gras, black truffle and brioche. Pair it with sides such as the dessert-like honeynut squash, served with sage and lemon ricotta, and Ridiculous mac and cheese, smothered with lobster and black truffle.
If youre in a seafood mood, few restaurants do branzino better. This version is served with grilled whole baby leeks, tomatillos and poblano peppers. Meat lovers will definitely want to try the American wagyu prime rib for two, rubbed with porcini and black garlic and served with horseradish cream, sauce bordelaise and pommes aligot.

Why Las Vegas Is the Top Destination for Trade Shows – BizBash
Posted: at 10:06 am
The incomparable energy and creativity of Las Vegas make it an inspirational destination, one thats ideal for business professionals to gather, network and collaborate. Not to mention the new venues and innovative meeting spaces, unparalleled tech capabilities, dedication to sustainability and team-building potential. But thats not the only reason its been the No. 1 trade show destination for decades.
While the pandemic slowed down the world, Vegas continues to be a sought-after destination, one where health, safety and hosting a successful meeting or trade show exhibition are a prime focus. What else does Vegas have to offer professionals?
Here are the top four reasons why Vegas is the place to do business:
1. Business happens in person, and its happening in Las Vegas.
How do we know? Well, the Las Vegas Convention Center alone hosted 52 large-scale events with nearly 750,000 attendees in 2021. With studies showing that employees are looking to reconnect with their colleagues and rebuild the chemistry of collaboration, in-person events and meetings will continue to rebound and grow. According to the Las Vegas Business Traveler Quantitative Research Overview, 91% of business travelers say they miss in-person events, while Freeman Research reports that 85% of American workers say that in-person meetings are irreplaceable. For all those attendees returning or visiting for the first time, Las Vegas is a destination with abundant accommodations that meet a range of price points, as well as offering a safe and lively atmosphere to make those interactions a reality.
2. Las Vegas is moving forward.
Very recently, Las Vegas added notable venues to its impressive portfolio of spaces to host memorable meetings and events. New builds include the highly anticipated Resorts World that opened in June 2021; Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, which opened last March; Circa Resort and Casino, Caesars FORUM and The Stella Studio at The Venetian, each of which opened in October 2020; and the noteworthy West Hall expansion at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) which was completed in early June.
With these new venues opening, plus expansions and development happening at existing venues and consistent implementation of state-of-the-art tech, Las Vegas continues to growwithout capacity limits. Among the many venues available, there are flexible event and meeting space offerings as well as many outdoor spaces designed to move business forward. From large trade show floors to smaller, more intimate spaces that meet all budgets, there are accommodations and venues for all attendee and event types.
3. Getting around has never been easier or more convenient.
Travel is insanely convenient with flights coming in and out at the nearby Harry Reid International Airport. When traveling around the city, the Las Vegas Monorail provides direct access to seven properties including the convention center, plus there are plentiful ride-share, taxi and rental car options. And dont forget the innovative underground transportation system, the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, which provides fast and convenient transportation across the LVCC campus. On and off the clock, theres so much to see and do, any employee will be happy to do business in Las Vegas.
4. Meet Smart, Vegas Smart
Though COVID-19 still looms, Vegas venues adhere to all health and wellness guidelines that come from the CDC and the state, and are prepared to go above and beyond to fulfill individual event requests for enhanced protocols. Thats why Las Vegas has been able to host many in-person events in the last year while keeping safety a top priority. Event spaces, facilities, airports and airlines undergo rigorous screenings to ensure high standards of health and hygiene are in place. The Las Vegas Convention Center, Mandalay Bay Convention Center and The Venetian Convention and Expo Center are all GBAC STAR accredited facilities, adding to the commitment to provide safer events in Las Vegas.
As we roll into 2022, Las Vegas stands out as the place to be when planning your next expo or meeting.

SpaceX’s Starlink satellites visible over Las Vegas this weekend – KTNV Las Vegas
Posted: at 10:06 am
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) Look up at the night sky this weekend and you might see something a bit out of the ordinary, though not totally unfamiliar.
A string of lights moving through space, far above the Las Vegas valley. Starlink satellites from SpaceX.
The National Weather Service says the satellites should be visible around 6 p.m. on Saturday and 6:02 p.m. on Sunday.
There will be a few clouds in the sky on Saturday, the agency says, but most will be gone after sunset, and skies will be clear Sunday evening.
National Weather Service Las Vegas
Last year, SpaceX made strides in its Starlink mission, which the company says will help provide internet coverage to remote areas.
In May of 2021, its satellites made headlines after newsrooms in the western U.S., including at 13 Action News, received reports of strange lights in the sky. The company had just launched 60 Starlink satellites into space.
CNET reports SpaceX has deployed nearly 2,000 Starlink satellites into orbit over the years, though some of the satellites are prototypes and not functioning parts of the network.
There is a Starlink tracker on findstarlink.com.

Las Vegas dance team honored at this years MLK Day parade – KLAS – 8 News Now
Posted: at 10:06 am
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) A local dance team honored Martin Luther King Jr. at a senior center in North Las Vegas Saturday.
My kids wanted to dance. I just involved more kids when I first started, Melissa Ross, dance director, said. It helps keep them off the streets.
The team. Priceless Diamonds was started in August 2015. Its mission is to develop talent at both the recreational and competition level.
I was there with her on the bed when she came up with colors, a name, and her recruitment and I was in her first studio actually, Stephanie Felton, team dance mom, said.
So far, the team has won over 90 trophies, even winning best community dance group at this years Martin Luther King Jr. Parade.
We get a chance for the teams to showcase their talents, like Priceless Diamonds, sometimes they do a lot of work for a lot of people, Wendell P. Williams, the founder of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. committee, said.
Covid-19 brought on financial struggles, and it has made it hard to travel to competitions.
We do ask for donations or sponsorships, Mandeshia Shanks said. Its been hard over the years because we havent been able to get them, so its been coming out of the pockets of the parents or director.
The past few years havent been easy, but one mom is proud of everything theyve accomplished so far.
People you know go and come, Ldawn Sears said. Then youre seeing kids grow up from the team since they were real little.
Priceless Diamonds hasnt slowed down, even though this pandemic has brought hardships. The team credits their brotherhood, sisterhood, and perseverance to get them through any challenge they face.

I-Team: Las Vegas Raider Nate Hobbs cited for driving 110 mph nearly 2 weeks after arrest on suspicion of DUI – KLAS – 8 News Now

Cornerback arrested earlier this month for DUI in parking garage
by: David Charns
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) Nevada State Police Highway Patrol troopers cited Las Vegas Raider Nate Hobbs for driving 110 mph on the 215 Beltway less than two weeks after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the 8 News Now I-Team has learned.
The traffic stop occurred on the highway near South Decatur Boulevard around 11:45 a.m. Sunday, the I-Team first reported Friday afternoon.
A patrol trooper issued Hobbs, a cornerback, a citation, but he was not arrested on the reckless driving charge, a spokesperson for the department confirmed.
The officer noted Hobbs was driving at 110 mph in a 65-mph zone, a person with knowledge of the incident told the I-Team. Hobbs car was towed away.
We understand that a traffic citation was issued to Mr. Hobbs and we will address it in the court system, attorneys for Hobbs, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, said in a statement to 8 News Now.
On Jan. 3, police said the 22-year-old failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Clark County Detention Center on a misdemeanor DUI charge when an officer found him asleep behind the wheel of his Mercedes SUV on a parking garage exit ramp.
An officer noted he could smell a slight odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from Hobbs.
Hobbs admitted that he was just tired and that is the reason he fell asleep behind the wheel in the parking garage, an officer noted in the arrest report.
Hobbs played in the Raiders game the following weekend.
Chesnoff and Schonfeld sent the I-Team this statement at the time, saying, The facts and circumstances related by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to the news media leave serious concerns that this does not qualify as a DUI under Nevada law.
While Metro police arrested Hobbs on suspicion of DUI, court records indicate Hobbs has not been charged with DUI, but faces a lesser charge of failure to decrease speed or use due care under certain circumstances.
ESPN named Hobbs as an honorable mention for its top rookies of the season.
In an unrelated case in November, former Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III is accused of driving 156 mph before a crash that killed a woman and her dog.
Ruggs faces charges of driving under the influence causing death and substantial bodily injury and two counts of reckless driving. The Raiders released Ruggs shortly after the crash.
The Raiders also released cornerback Damon Arnette last year after he waived a gun in a video, following a high-speed crash near the Raiders practice facility.
Hobbs is due to appear in court in April on the reckless driving citation. The I-Team reached out to the Raiders for comment and did not receive a response.

1 person injured in planned demolition of US 95 bridge – Las Vegas Review-Journal
Posted: at 10:06 am
A U.S. 95 bridge collapsed while under construction Thursday afternoon, briefly trapping and injuring a worker, authorities said.
A Nevada Department of Transportation project had involved a planned demolishment of a bridge, and had closed Eastern Avenue, fire, transportation and highway officials said. Shortly before 4 p.m., authorities received a report of a collapse in the area and that a person was trapped.
The injured contract worker complained of back pain, and workplace safety officials were quickly notified, according to officials.
The construction worker was taken to a nearby hospital, and treated for injuriies.
We do not have details yet as to the extent of those injuries and are working to get updates in real time, said Justin Hopkins, Transportation Department spokesman.
Spokeswoman Adrienne Packer added that the collapse was not due to any structural deficiencies and that the freeway was not damaged. She said the collapse occurred as crews brought down an old girder that buckled.
The workers injuries were very minor, according to Packer.
Transportation Department officials said they did not believe crews did anything wrong, but Packer said she expected an Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigation into the collapse.
Crews have been demolishing the southbound section of the Eastern Avenue overpass as part of its $40 million U.S. 95 viaduct replacement and retrofit work.
Eastern has been closed to vehicle and pedestrians traffic under that bridge since Monday and traffic on U.S. 95 has been shifted.
The road had been scheduled to reopen late Tuesday night. U.S. Highway 95 and Interstate 515 remained open and safe for motorists Thursday night, according to a Transportation Department press release.
NDOT is closely monitoring the situation and working with safety officials to determine the cause of the incident, the release stated.

Feldman: Sources inside Michigan think Jim Harbaugh would take Las Vegas Raiders job if offered – The Athletic
Posted: at 10:06 am
What will Jim Harbaugh do this winter with an NFL head-coaching market wide open? Almost no one knows for certain at this point. But it's worth keeping an eye on the Las Vegas Raiders. Harbaugh, who has a long friendship with owner Mark Davis, started his coaching career with the team in 2003. He also has family ties to Las Vegas, which is where he met his wife.
Multiple sources inside Michigan football told The Athletic this week that they think if Harbaugh is offered the Raiders head coaching job, hed take it.
They also know that Harbaugh can be hard to read. Their hunches could be wrong but they also know hes never coached anywhere longer than four years prior to his seven years and running in Ann Arbor. Theyve each believed that he, at some point, would want to coach in the NFL again.
Is this the right time and the right situation? The Raiders fired general manager Mike Mayock earlier this week. The 58-year-old Harbaugh, who won AP Coach of the Year, is coming off his best season at his alma mater: the Wolverines finally beat archrival Ohio State, won their first Big Ten title in 17 years, and made the College Football Playoff. In his seven years at Michigan, Harbaugh's record is 61-24 (.718).
Harbaugh remade his staff at Michigan in the offseason with an infusion of youth and it paid off. The Wolverines blew out OSU, 42-27, ending an eight-game series losing streak, employing the same bruising identity that Harbaugh infused to turn a dismal Stanford program into the bully of the West Coast. The Wolverines followed up that big win by crushing No. 13 Iowa in the Big Ten title game, 42-3. They lost in the CFP semifinal to a loaded Georgia team to finish No. 3. In his seven seasons, Michigan is 61-24.
Unlike almost every other top college coach, Harbaugh doesnt need to prove to anyone he can make the transition to the NFL. In four years with the San Francisco 49ers, he went 44-19-1 and took San Francisco to a Super Bowl in his second year. It was a dramatic turnaround from a franchise that had not had a winning season in eight years.
A year ago, no team other than Michigan seemed to want Harbaugh as its coach. The Wolverines extended him through the 2025 season but at a reduced rate. Harbaugh's base salary for 2021 dropped to $4 million. He had been paid over $8 million in 2020. He fired his defensive coordinator, Don Brown, and the program seemed to be backsliding by the year.
The new deal afforded him $1 million bonuses for winning the Big Ten championship and the College Football Playoff championship, and $500,000 bonuses for winning the Big Ten East Division and reaching the CFP. Those things, though, seemed so far-fetched a year ago.
After defeating the Buckeyes, Harbaugh announced that all bonus money from contract incentives this year would go toward all of the Michigan athletics employees whose pay had been affected by the pandemic.
Will another new deal with Michigan be enough to deter him from making the jump back if another NFL team comes calling? The people we talked to there have their doubts.

LVMPD officials offer new details on third shooting by officers this year – KTNV Las Vegas
Posted: January 19, 2022 at 11:35 am
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) Officials with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department offered new information Tuesday about their investigation into the department's third shooting involving officers so far this year.
Initially, LVMPD officials said officers had shot a man who fired at them in the area of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sunset Road on Jan. 12. Evidence shows that was not the case, Assistant Sheriff Lazaro Chavez said on Tuesday.
Two LVMPD officers were getting gas at a station on the 6100 block of Las Vegas Boulevard at 10:42 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up next to theirs. A woman inside the car got the officers' attention and softly asked them for help, Chavez said.
PREVIOUS: Man shot by police on Las Vegas Boulevard
While the two officers, since identified as Dominic Lee and Zacahry Falldorf, tried to get more information from her, a man holding a gun got out of the car.
KTNV
Officers fired at and hit the man, since identified as 34-year-old Manuel Edwin Martinez.
"Our investigation revealed during the last several days that Martinez did not fire any rounds during the incident," Chavez said. Asked to clarify, Chavez said Martinez had pointed the gun at officers. Bullet casings that would match his Beretta 9mm handgun were not found at the scene, he said.
KTNV
After he was shot, Martinez ran into a nearby area of desert and was taken into custody there. He was transported to University Medical Center and has since been moved to Clark County Detention Center, Chavez said.
Investigators interviewed the woman who'd initially contacted the officers and were told she and Martinez previously dated but had been separated for about a year. He'd contacted her on Jan. 12 and asked her to take him to the hospital, Chavez said, but police were told that once she picked him up, he no longer wanted to go there. Chavez said the woman started to feel unsafe based on Martinez's behavior and some of the things he said. When she saw the officers getting gas, she pulled up to them and asked for help.
Lee and Falldorf were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation into the shooting. Both officers are assigned to the community policing division. Lee, 37, has been an officer with LVMPD since 2017. Falldorf, 32, has been with the department since 2018.
Martinez remains held in jail on charges of attempted murder, possession of a gun by a prohibited person, and kidnapping.
