Science says Amber Heard has the most beautiful face – MyStateline.com
Posted: June 24, 2022 at 9:41 pm
(WTVO) According to scientific facial mapping software, Amber Heard has the most beautiful face in the world.
According to US Weekly, Dr. Julian De Silva, at the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery in London, used a program that calculates face shapes using the golden ratio of beauty, which represents aesthetically pleasing facial proportions.
The Greeks discovered that the ratio occurs everywhere in nature and for thousands of years it has been thought to hold the secret formula of the worlds most beautiful faces, De Silva said.
De Silva fed images of the worlds most notable faces into the program, and Heards eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips, chin, jaw and facial shape were measured and 12 key marker points were analyzed and found to be 91.85 percent of the Greek ratio of Phi, which is 1.618, he said.
The software calculated that Heard, Marilyn Monroe, Emily Ratajkowski, Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johansson had the most beautiful nose; Ratajkowski, Monroe, Kylie Jenner, Natalie Portman and Angelina Jolie has the most beautiful lips; and ScarJo, Rihanna, Monroe, Kate Moss, and Cara Delvingne had the most beautiful eyes.
Model Bella Hadid scored the highest overall, being crowned the most beautiful woman in the world, being 94.35% accurate to the Golden Rule. Beyonce (92.44%) came in 2nd, Heard (91.85%) in 3rd, and Ariana Grande (91.81%), in fourth.

Your Breath Could Be The Key To A Fitter You – Longevity LIVE – Longevity LIVE
Posted: at 9:41 pm
IN AND OUT, in and out breathing is a no-brainer, right? It just comes naturally without any conscious effort. But what if we told you that your breath could could be the key to a fitter new you? Because, in fact, you can train your breath just like you train your body, and it can send your results sky high. Boosted sports performance, a stronger heart and cardio system, reduced stress and anxiety.. The benefits of better breathing are endless for longevity.
It may seem obvious, but understanding the ins and outs (sorry) will help you reap rewards. Under normal circumstances, breathing takes place without thinking, thanks to the medulla oblongata the part of the brain that maintains automatic functions. However, you can initiate voluntary changes to your breathing pattern, using the brains cerebral cortex, which can override the auto system. This allows you to control how fast or how deeply you breathe, which can help to improve your performance in vigorous activities, such as sprints or heavy lifts.
Stress either from exercise or external pressures stimulates your sympathetic nervous system, which tightens your respiratory muscles. Your chest expansion becomes restricted and shallow, and you breathe more rapidly. This is an ineffective way to breathe, as only the upper parts of your chest are efficient at removing toxic carbon dioxide and absorbing oxygen.
Learning to use your breathing effectively can be well worth your while, particularly if youre spending loads of time in the gym or if youre under a lot of stress. Ready to give it a go? Follow these easy exercises, and youll soon be breathing your way to a better body and mind
Had a long day or tough training session? Lie on your back and let yourself relax so your body feels heavy, as if you could almost sink into the floor. Then close your eyes and breathe nasally, taking long, slow breaths, fully inflating the lungs. Maintain a slow, comfortable rhythm and focus on listening to your breathing.
Be aware that nasal breathing will warm the air as its inhaled, so try to push this warmth down into your centre and feel your body temp gently rising from the inside out.
With resistance training, the golden rule is to exhale on the effort. This will give extra dynamism to your movements, allowing you to perform at a higher level and get greater results. For example, during a squat, the hardest part of the movement is lifting up from the lowered position. So, inhale as you bend your knees, sit into the squat position, then actively blow out as you contract your thigh and bottom muscles to return to the standing position. This theory can be applied to any exercise just remember to exhale as you lift the weight (or your own body weight) against gravity.
Breathe for A CARDIO BOOST During cardio exercise, varying the timing of your breath can improve the performance of your lungs and allow your body to use oxygen more efficiently. If youre going for a run, start with a 2:2 ratio breathing in for two strides and out for two.
The aim is to build up to a 3:3 and then a 4:4 ratio. For swimming, count the number of breaths you take to complete one length of the pool, then challenge yourself to take fewer breaths on the next length. Cyclists should work on trying to increase the number of revolutions for each breath, particularly on uphill stretches.
To strengthen your respiratory muscles and boost your endurance, sit in a comfortable upright position with your mouth closed.
Breathe quickly in and out through your nose, at a rate of two to three breaths per second, for five minutes. To aid the process, picture a pump inflating a tyre. You should feel the effort at the base of your neck, in your chest and in your stomach muscles.
You can boost your nervous and digestive systems and even muster some extra courage with one easy exercise. With your mouth closed, inhale slowly through your nose. Close the glottis (your vocal cords and the space between them) by lifting the back of your tongue to the roof of your mouth, and exhale, again through your nose, but this time focus on the noise and vibration of the breath. Keep going for about two minutes. will improve your concentration.
Clearing your mind is as easy as inhaling and exhaling, thanks to a clever exercise you can do at your desk, in the gym, or any time you need to find your focus. First, choose an empowering word, such as succeed, overcome or achieve. Take a deep breath in and, on the exhale, silently say the word to yourself and make it last the whole length of the breath.
If other thoughts start to drift in and out of your head, let them creep in, but dont let them take over, then slowly return your focus to repeating your chosen word to yourself.
These professionals know a thing or two about breath control
Anna Netrebko This Russian operatic beauty has been hailed as Audrey Hepburn with a voice. Since debuting 10 years ago, she has won hordes of fans with her incredible soprano voice.
Herbert Nitsch The Austrian freedivers world record 214m freedive has landed him the title of deepest man on Earth. But leave it to the experts, as hes still recovering from a near-fatal diving accident in 2012.
In 2011, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner the Austrian alpinist became the first woman to take on all 14 of the worlds 8,000m peaks without the assistance of extra oxygen or high-altitude porters.
DID YOU KNOW? We automatically change sides in our sleep about every half an hour, and this is mostly due to the balancing of the breath through each of our nostrils.

While it may not feel like it recently, summer is rolling in, and that means its going to get hot.
With that in mind, its important to know how to properly take care of your pets, know the signs of heat stroke, recognize when its too hot for your pets to be outside or in a car, and be mindful of their needs.
The golden rule of pet parenthood and for that matter, all parenthood is that if youre hungry, tired, too hot, or too cold, they probably are as well. But with pets, its also vital to remember that they cant communicate with us; sometimes we have to know whats best for them, even if they dont.
According to Heartland Humane, one of the most important things to remember is that a cracked window in your car on a hot day means very little to your pet. Within thirty minutes with or without an open window, the internal temperature of your car can rise as much as 30+ F.
Anything above 90 F is dangerous for your pets, and anything beyond 100 F is an immediate cause for concern.
But sometimes we cant control the heat, and it can get beyond any reasonable control. Thats why we need to know what heat stroke looks like, what to do about it, and when to avoid sunlight with your furry friend.
The symptoms of heat stroke include:
If its above 90 F, avoid walking in direct sunlight with your pets when possible, walk under shade whenever its available, and feel asphalt and concrete before allowing your pets to walk on it after all, would you want to walk on that hot, hard surface in bare feet?
Heated concrete and asphalt can severely burn your pets feet. The best way to test this is to place sensitive skin, such as that on your wrist, on the pavement if you get burnt, they will, too.
Always bring water and a small bowl on walks, and if you recognize the signs of heat stroke in your dog, give them water, get them to shade, and call your vet heatstroke can happen in as little as fifteen minutes.
If you see an animal in a dangerously hot vehicle, do your utmost to find the owner. If unsuccessful, call 911 or a non-emergency animal control number. For Corvallis, call 541-766-6924; for Benton County, call 541-766-6858.
After contacting the authorities and being instructed to do so, Oregon is one of several states that allows citizens and law enforcement to break a car window to remove [a] child or domestic animal in imminent danger of suffering harm.

Are You a Nave Realist? – Nautilus | Science Connected – Nautilus
Posted: at 9:41 pm
When Lee Ross, a professor of psychology at Stanford, explained to his students what his term fundamental attribution error meant, he loved to quote George Carlin. Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac? The late comedian perfectly captured our tendency to attribute the worlds problems to other people and not ourselves. Im the only good driver on the road. Everybody else should drive like me.
Ross and his colleagues demonstrated that the fundamental attribution error was fed by the illusion of personal objectivity. In a 2016 Ted Talk, Ross joked that people believe that their take on the world is the objective one, and what has to be understood or explained is, What is it about those other people that seem to get it wrong? Ross came to call this nave realism, the tendency for people to think they see the world objectively, as it is, free from personal bias.1 Ross established three characteristics of the nave realist.
First, the nave realist believes that their perceptions are realistic and objective. Accordingly, other people (at least, reasonable other people) should share their beliefs, preferences, and convictions. Second, the nave realist expects that any reasonable, open-minded person will be persuaded to agree with the nave realist if there is disagreement between parties. If there is disagreement, and if the disagreeing party is a reasonable person, presenting the real facts should restore harmony. Third, anyone who disagrees with the nave realist after the presentation of real facts is unreasonable, biased, or irrational.
Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot?
Ross and his colleagues spent decades characterizing instances where the illusion of objectivity shaped how people think. In one of their studies, participants completed a questionnaire asking about their views on various hot button political issues such as abortion and capital punishment. The researchers collected and randomly redistributed the questionnaires among the participants. After reading a peers questionnaire, participants indicated the level of similarity between their views and the peers views. They also indicated the extent to which rational considerations (such as attention to facts) and sources of bias (such as wishful thinking, unreliable information sources, and peer-group pressures) influenced their peers views and their own views.
Ross found that people thought their own views were shaped by rational considerations more than biased thinking. They also found that participants evaluation of peers relied entirely on the perception of similarity between their views. When students read questionnaires of like-minded peers, they saw their peers as reason-driven, rather than bias-driven. Conversely, when they read questionnaires of peers whose views differed from their own, they attributed their views to sources of error rather than rational consideration.2,3
Weve been thinking a lot about Ross lately. For one of us (Erika), Ross was a favorite professor, and his death last year was a personal blow. What stood out for most people when they met Ross was his brilliance and readiness for humor. He was smart, attentive, and listened to his students. He cared deeply about growing the next generation of psychologists.
We also cant help thinking about Ross because of how accurately his theory of nave realism applies to our lives and culture today. America has fractured into separate camps because people are convinced their views are objective while those who disagree with them are deluded. The early days of the COVID-19 pandemic were characterized by something resembling a shared reality, but the country quickly devolved into factions over the effectiveness of mask-wearing and social-distancing. Despite evidence to the contrary, nearly one-third of Americans still believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
As Ross showed, the best inoculation against nave realismthe illusion of personal objectivityis a healthy dose of fact, aggregated from non-biased sources with no skin in the game. But against the backdrop of a highly polarized political landscape, and a media environment flush with disinformation, it is exceedingly difficult to even know where to begin in de-biasing oneself.
Recent studies from the field of social psychology offer some breadcrumbs. For example, it turns out that simply raising awareness of cognitive biases helps people identify instances of bias in their own judgments and correct their thinking accordingly. In 2014, psychologists Eran Halperin and Meytal Nasie led a series of studies examining whether merely making people aware of nave realism and its consequences could lay a foundation for compromise among Israelis and Palestinians. Participants were assigned to a control condition, or to an experimental condition in which they read a passage describing nave realism and its consequences, which included the following excerpt:
Nave Realism is the human tendency to form ones own worldview regarding various subjects, perceived by an individual as the only truth. Accordingly the individual believes that other peoples reluctance to share his or her views arises from ignorance, irrationality, an inability to draw reasonable conclusions from objective evidence, ideological biases, or self-interest. The psychological bias of nave realism causes people to see the world in a unilateral and simplistic manner. As a result of this bias, people tend to ignore or reject any information that does not fit their pre- existing worldview, which is perceived by them as the only truth. Consequently, they fail to see things from several points of view and may miss opportunities for change and progress.
Participants in the experimental conditionin particular, those who held more hawkish political ideologiesreported greater openness to learning about the point of view of the rival group following this short intervention. Remarkably, this was true of both Israelis and Palestinians, offering a simple and intuitive strategy to set the stage for dialogue between parties in conflict.4
In a 2022 paper, Halperin, psychologist Luca Lpez Rodrguez, and their colleagues built off this finding. They wondered whether a similar intervention might help Europeans become more accepting of immigrants cultural practices. In a series of experiments, European participants were randomly assigned to a control group or to an experimental group in which they read a passage similar to that used six years earlier by Nasie and colleagues. Then participants were given a battery of questions assessing their attitudes toward Moroccan immigrants; for instance, I feel irritated when Moroccans speak their language around me, and I do not understand why Moroccans keep their ethnic cultural traditions instead of trying to fit into the mainstream culture.
We miscalculate the extent to which our opponents viewpoints differ from our own.
Rodrguez and Halperin foundonce againthat learning about nave realism could be enough to buffer people from some of its most harmful effects. Participants who read about nave realism reported greater acceptance of immigrants cultural differences as compared to participants in the control condition.5 And while it remains unclear exactly why this intervention works, Rodrguez and Halperin speculated that it has to do with the desire to maintain a positive self-view. Realizing that our perception does not exactly correspond to reality could make it difficult to maintain an enhanced view of oneself, they wrote. This reduction in self-enhancement, in turn, may lead to questioning our beliefs, including those about the superiority of the ingroup, which would pave the way to accept others culture.
While learning about nave realism might help us overcome some of our political animosity, it is nave to expect that alone is sufficient to repair the fractures in our democracy. A problem of this magnitude requires more than just a shift in individuals willingness to entertain others perspectives. But it is a place to start.
Whats more, theres reason to think that now might be a particularly important moment to venture past our own perspectives. Polls show that Americans have more in common than not. Research from YouGov and More in Common suggest that Americans miscalculate the extent to which their political opponents viewpoints differ from their own. Democrats, for example, underestimate the extent to which Republicans think that properly controlled immigration can be good for America. Republicans, for their part, overestimate the extent to which Democrats think police are bad people.
Rosss decades of scholarship show that people reliably misunderstand others, especially those most different from themselves. Remaining vigilant to the threats of nave realism, epistemic humility, open-mindedness, and patience might be the only remedy to what Ross and his colleagues called the illusion of asymmetric insight, the misperception that we know others better than they know us. And this, according to Ross and colleagues, leads us to talk when we would do well to listen.6
I would unite with anybody to do right; and with nobody to do wrong.
Ross spent years in the field bringing the lessons of social psychology to bear on some of the worlds most perilous conflicts. In work with Unionists and Nationalists in Northern Ireland, Ross and his colleagues developed an exercise that proved especially fruitful. Individuals from each side of the conflict were tasked with describing the other sides position back to them. And they were required to keep at it until the other side agreed that they represented it correctly. This procedure initially proves difficult for all concerned and inevitably produces false starts, Ross wrote in 2018.7 Yet when the two sides finally are satisfied with the efforts of their counterpart, they feel greater empathy for each other, avoid the caricaturing of each others views, and are on the road to a more thoughtful and less defensive exploration of future possibilities.
In one of his final papers, Ross reflected on the work of abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who, when asked about his willingness to discuss abolition with slaveholders, offered the following insight: I would unite with anybody to do right; and with nobody to do wrong.8 In the wake of ended friendships, fractured families, and with our democracy on the brink, Americans have a unique opportunity to ask themselves with whom they could partner to do good.
Most Americans also agree on one key issue: that democracy is imperiled, and America is at risk of failing.9 While Democrats and Republicans diverge on the exact nature of the threat and how it should be addressed, this rare instance of agreement presents an opportunity for cross-partisan collaboration. For Americans of diverse ideologies and beliefs to find their way to the negotiation table, they must recognize and examine their illusions of personal objectivity, armed with what social psychologists Jay Van Bavel and Dominic Packer referred to as Ross Golden Rule: Proceed from the nave but charitable assumption that when people respond in ways that are surprising or offensive, it is generally their perceptions, assumptions, and construals, rather than their basic values, that differ from our own.10

Qatar 2022: Thibaut Courtois’ Belgium and 9 other National Teams defying a lengthy World Cup tradition – msnNOW
Posted: at 9:41 pm
Since the first chapter of its updateable book was written, which consists of 21 stories so far, the FIFA World Cup has been respectful of a pact, of a tradition that has been in force for 92 years. However, in the run-up to Qatar 2022, 10 rebellious national teams are aiming to defy the golden rule of the nationality of the World Cup champion manager.
The 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup has a trend that has been in place since its conception: it is the World Cup of firsts. Never before in the history of this tournament has the Middle East served as the host region. It will also be the first time it will be played at the end of the year rather than in May, June and July.
Another new feature of Qatar 2022 is the inclusion of women referees, something that has not happened in the 92-year history of the FIFA World Cup. Emboldened by this trend of innovation, ten national teams are seeking to break with an almost century-old tradition of this tournament: that of the nationality of the World Cup champion manager.
So simple and so lapidary that it banishes any possibility of coincidence: if a National Team wants to win the FIFA World Cup it has to compete in it under a manager of the same nationality. This is how things have gone in 21 editions so far.
It is worth noting that there have not been 21 champion coaches, but 20, as the first two-time champion in the history of this tournament, Italy, was coached by the same manager in both editions: Vittorio Pozzo in 1934 and 1938. After that, only 8 teams have shared the glory in 92 years of FIFA World Cup existence.
Thus, the golden group of the FIFA World Cup is reduced to coaches from Brazil, Italy, Germany, Uruguay, Argentina, France, England, Spain and France, the only countries that have been crowned champions of this tournament. Who are the bold ones who will try to put an end to this trend in Qatar 2022?
Although it may sound illusory, given the obvious differences in level and possibilities among the 32 National Teams that will compete in Qatar 2022, there are two undeniable truths: first, that everyone who participates in a tournament has the aspiration to win it, and second, that the only way not to have even a remote possibility of achieving it is by not participating in it. Under the above premise, the squads that will compete in the upcoming FIFA World Cup have a chance, albeit a slim one, of winning the tournament.
Of the 32 National Teams that have qualified for Qatar 2022, 22 comply with the nationality pact of the World Cup winning coach. Get to know the 10 teams that defy tradition and seek to win the tournament without being coached by a coach from the same nation.
El Tri is to some extent understandable. For the last 7 World Cups it has been eliminated in the Round of 16; five of those occasions have been with a Mexican at the helm. Thus, for the second consecutive World Cup (Juan Carlos Osorio, Colombian, Russia 2018) it has a foreign manager. Can Tata Martino not only break the curse but take Mexico to heights never before achieved?
Since July 2017, Felix Sanchez has coached the hosts of the upcoming FIFA World Cup and led them to achieve what they have never before in their history, to be Asian Cup champions in 2019. He has also led them to reach the Semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2021. Will Qatar break the 24-year drought without a host being crowned champion of this tournament (France 1998)?
The Korean national team will try to surpass its fourth place finish at the 2002 World Cup. At that time, they were coached by Dutchman Guus Hiddink. Now, their hopes are pinned on Portuguese coach Bento to emulate what he did with Sporting Lisbon, a club he led to win several tournaments.
From the outset, whatever happens in Qatar 2022, John Herdman's work is historic, as he managed to bring Canada back to this tournament after 36 years of absence and after establishing himself as the best team in CONCACAF ahead of Mexico and the United States. In order to make history, they have to beat Belgium, Croatia and Morocco.
Saudi Arabia has usually sailed against the tide: more foreign coaches than nationals have led the country, and this seems to be more of a tradition than a trend. They continue to rely on an outsider, in this case Herve Renard, to take them beyond their best performance at the FIFA World Cup, when they reached the Round of 16 in 1994 with Argentine Jorge Solari as manager.
After being left out of Russia 2018, Ecuador bet on Argentine Gustavo Alfaro for Qatar 2022 and at least in the qualifiers he did not fail. In the tough Conmebol, they got the last direct ticket and now they will have to deal with Qatar, Senegal and Holland to think about advancing to the Round of 16 and thus equal their best participation, in Germany 2006.
The Croatian coach has the tough mission of at least leading Iran to achieve what they have never been able to do, qualify from the group stage of a FIFA World Cup. Qatar 2022 will be the third consecutive World Cup they have qualified for: will they make it?
A wise coach who already has the experience of having coached in two FIFA World Cups, in Germany 2006 and Brazil 2014, with Ecuador and Honduras, respectively. Costa Rica is excited about this, since its best performance, precisely in the 2014 edition, was with a Colombian at the helm, Jorge Luis Pinto.
Another success story, at least in terms of the expectations of teams that usually don't have it in the FIFA World Cup. The Bosnian was responsible for leading Algeria to their best World Cup performance at Brazil 2014, when they reached the Round of 16. After hiring him in 2019, Morocco had in mind that Halidhodzic would make them repeat, at the very least, their historic participation in Mexico 1986 when they advanced from the group stage.
The Spanish coach is clear about it. After taking third place at Russia 2018, there is no other option but to win the title at Qatar 2022. He has in his hands the most powerful Belgian generation in history, which has already left behind its youth phase to be in full maturity, which makes them the candidate with the most chances to break the tradition 92-year-old traditon of World Cup Champions managed only by countrymen manager.

Qatar 2022: Thibaut Courtois’ Belgium and 9 other National Teams defying a lengthy World Cup tradition – Bolavip

Emboldened by this trend of innovation, ten national teams are seeking to break with an almost century-old tradition of this tournament: that of the nationality of the World Cupchampion manager.

Why Tho? Heres our very best parenting advice – OregonLive

This is the latest installment of The Oregonian/OregonLives advice column, Why Tho? by Lizzy Acker. Lizzys advice also appears in our weekly advice newsletter. Want to get it? Subscribe now.
Dear Lizzy,
I am in my twenties and not ready to have kids yet butmaybe someday? Do you have any advice for me for when or if that finally happens? What are your best parenting tips?
Future Parent (Maybe)
Dear Future Parent (Maybe),
Having kids! What a huge and life-altering thing to do! My number one piece of advice is: Dont do it unless you want to. Theres so much pressure everywhere, to have a kid and then to have multiple kids, but its not a requirement for happiness and I dont recommend going into it hoping it adds meaning to your life. Get meaning first and then add a kid when you feel ready to give up many of the things that define you, plus sleep, for several years.
As far as advice for once you have a kid, Im going to go with the golden rule: Treat people, in this case, your babies, like you want to be treated.
What I mean is, babies and kids are tiny geniuses, at least as smart as you. Respect them. As far as turning that into concrete advice, thats a little tricky. Youll find, if you become a parent, that most parents feel like they are being judged constantly, for what they are or arent doing. So take the following with this caveat: These things worked for me and just because someone chooses something different, I am not implying on any level that they are a bad parent.
Here it goes.
Dont assume because babies cant talk yet, that they arent hearing and understanding you. Talk to them constantly. Explain to them what you are doing. Especially explain what you are doing to them.
Remember that the stories they consume, books and television, etc., create their reality. So pick stories that might help them better exist in the world, instead of stories that are made to sell them products.
You can teach babies so much. You can teach them sign language. Its amazing! And I am a huge proponent of at the very least reading about the ideas of infant potty training or elimination communication, which is basically helping babies use a potty at a young age and is the normal practice throughout a lot of the world.
Its mildly controversial (dont force your baby to pee in the potty or berate them if they dont but also dont do that to your toddler) and a little woo-y in the United States but can save you a lot of money on diapers. Honestly, all I did was put my baby on a potty starting at about 10 months with zero expectations while I was going to the bathroom, to give her something to do, because a pandemic was on and I was really surprised by how well she took to it.
You may notice that my advice is very baby-focused since my child is only 2.5 years old. So I asked a few coworkers with older kids for their best advice. Heres what they said:
Know that your kid, even at a young age is WHO THEY ARE! Do not try to make them different. Youll only frustrate yourself at best, and at worst, push your kid away. Open your mind to the person theyre become and enjoy the ride, said a coworker who asked to be referred to as Grumpy old co-worker whos lucky her kid turned out awesome.
Another anonymous coworker who has parented non-babies had this sage advice:
Your primary job as a parent is to support your child(ren) in a way that allows them to become the very best version of themselves. Dont live through them, dont place your expectations on them for the kind of job they should have or who their friends or love interests should be or even if they have them. Embrace them for the individuals they are, figure out how to support them when they need it and get out of their way so they can make their own decisions when they dont.
Your child will look to you to be their world, and that is a huge job that comes with no blueprint. But regardless of your parenting style or whether you work or dont work outside the home or what kind of choices you make about what they can watch or eat, keep in mind that even the most mundane things are shaping who they will be as adults.
You will make mistakes as a parent and youll need to give yourself a break, and sometimes even acknowledge to your kids that you didnt live up to your own expectations as their parent. If they see you modeling resilience and making good choices, its so much more effective than lectures or rules. Be an adult your child can look up to.
I know. It isnt just babies who are geniuses. Its my coworkers too!
In a way, it all boils down to this: Release your expectations. Dont get caught up in a timeline or in the outcome. The most, most important thing? That you love your kid and show it to them. The rest you will figure out.
Good luck (far, far in the future),
Lizzy

Colorado sports bar instantly controls 40 TVs and a 24ft video wall with Binary MoIP – Essential Install
Posted: at 12:16 pm
The recently opened Sportsbook Bar and Grill in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, has a single defining goal: make sure every customer enjoys excellent food, premium service and the ability to watch any sporting event they desire. After experiencing difficulties and frustration with video systems in other restaurants and bars, the owners hired local tech experts Logic Integration to design and install a sophisticated Binary Media-over-IP video distribution system (MoIP) that provides instant control of 40 TVs and a 24ft by 6.5ft 1.5mm pixel pitch Direct-View LED (DVLED) display.
The owners requested a system that was simple to operate, as they wanted any staff member to be able to immediately respond to customer requests without requiring an engineering degree, and without shuffling between dozens of remotes.
Rather than having 40 remotes, staff at Sportsbook Highlands Ranch can now use in-store mobile devices to instantly change the channel on any TV, including the massive DVLED video wall, says Travis Stefl, Logic Integration Lead Engineer. Its a virtually foolproof system that connects 25 rack-mounted video sources to 60 total video displays, with unlimited ability to broadcast one source to all TVs, or to show 25 different channels at once.
The star of the show is the huge DVLED video wall, which is mounted above a booth seating area and is visible from virtually any seat in the house. Logic Integration leveraged the MoIP solution to allow the video wall to be used as a single huge display or to be broken up using 10 available presets, such as a large middle video flanked by two 24 grids to present a total of 17 channels at once. They chose 1.5mm DVLED technology to ensure excellent picture quality for every customer, no matter their viewing distance.
Using the MoIP distribution system also helped keep the system within budget, since it relies on affordable Cat6 cables and requires minimal rack components. The video and controls are routed through a control system that also handles audio distribution, with in-ceiling, pendant and surface-mount speakers used to fit various available locations throughout the restaurant. The main audio source is a guest-operated TouchTunes jukebox, while staff can also broadcast TV audio to the separate inside and outside audio zones when a big game or event is on.
According to Travis, systems of this size and value require protection and monitoring, which led Logic AV to integrate Wattbox power products that offer protection against unstable power and provide remote access to view equipment status. For the networking switches, a Pakedge MS-4424 was installed in the system.
Another key component of this system is the protection we integrated at the rack level, Travis adds. WattBox power conditioners with OvrC remote access provide assurance that all of the expensive audio and video gear always receives clean, consistent power, and that we are automatically alerted to any interruption with push notifications. The OvrC solution allows us to log in and view the real-time status of connected equipment, so we can remotely cycle the power on a unit to troubleshoot minor issues. We have a service contract with the restaurant, and the OvrC remote management helps us respond much faster, and at lower cost, than rolling a truck to the site.
Following the golden rule that the best system is an easy-to-use system, the owners made sure that Logic AV uses exclusively commercial-grade displays, all from a single manufacturer. Prior experiences had taught them that a system using consumer TVs, especially a mix of different brands, can introduce major issues including colour differences, short lifespans, and problems with interoperability and control system integration. While pricing is a little higher, the longer warranties on commercial displays provide long-term peace of mind and reduce daily headaches.
Every part of this solution is designed to deliver an incredible sports bar experience while making staffs jobs easier, says Logic AV Senior Account Manager Scott Collinsworth. The atmosphere here is carefree and fun-loving, and the advanced technology solutions give staff all the tools they need to keep customers coming back week after week.

Saints, Pelicans have scored points by giving back – Clarion Herald
Posted: at 12:16 pm
In January 1998, Tom Benson and his fellow NFL owners had just won the Fort Knox equivalent of the Super Bowl.
The league signed off on a blockbuster, $17.6 billion network television contract that would raise the NFLs annual salary cap for players by $10 million to $51.5 million per team.
For several years, Dennis Lauscha, a young CPA with the independent accounting firm of Arthur Andersen, had audited the Saints compliance with the intricacies of the newly installed salary cap. Benson was so impressed with Lauschas work that he asked the 28-year-old, a 1987 graduate of Jesuit High School, to come to work for him.
Bensons chief financial officer, Bruce Broussard, had serious health issues, and Benson wanted Lauscha to learn the CFO job for a year under Broussards careful tutelage and then take over as his top financial officer.
I distinctly remember saying, You know, Mr. Benson, Im relatively young at 28. Would you be comfortable with a 28-year-old being a CFO? Lauscha recalled. And he told me, Look, Dennis, I got my first car dealership at 28. So that made me feel pretty good.
The NFL is big business. There may not be a more important corporate entity to the health of the New Orleans region and the state than the New Orleans Saints, and by addition, the New Orleans Pelicans.
Thats why when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005 and there was talk of the Saints never coming back to town, that uncertainty fueled a passionate backlash among surviving fans who were dragging their lifes belongings to the curb.
Despite his early missteps in responding to the disaster, its irrefutable that when Tom Benson made his decision to return to New Orleans, he was all in.
There was a lot of discussion about what the team would do and where we were headed and everything else, Lauscha told a June 7 gathering at Immaculate Conception Church in New Orleans for the churchs Cannonball Conversation series in honor of the Ignatian Year. I distinctly remember him saying, Hey, were going back. Were going back to make a difference. Lets pack up and go. The inference was were going to be a great football team, but first we need to make a difference in our community. He really meant that. It was moving, to be honest with you.
Anyone keeping track of the NFL ledger these days and, by comparison, the NBA ledger understands how unfathomably valuable sports franchises have become. Seven hours after Lauscha spoke at Immaculate Conception, the Denver Broncos announced they had been sold for $4.65 billion the same team previous owner Pat Bowlen paid $78 million for in 1984.
Lauscha, president of both the Saints and the Pelicans, said Gayle Benson, who assumed the ownership role of both franchises following her husbands death in 2018, has embraced and enhanced the core value of good corporate citizenship. Lauscha said the Gayle and Tom Benson Foundation has made nearly $200 million in contributions toschools, hospitals and other charities.
There are literally thousands of organizations we have done something for, and I wish we could do more, Lauscha said. I know Mrs. Benson wishes we could do more. Its been said that she has no heirs. When she passes and lets say a prayer that thats a long time from now all of her assets will be sold and given to charity.
Lauscha is an aficionado of church architecture. In his travels to cities across the world, he visits cathedrals. He and his wife Jennifer were in Seville and walked through Santa Mara de la Sede, the worlds largest cathedral after St. Peters Basilica in Rome and St. Pauls Cathedral in London.
How could a mid-sized port city in Europe have built something on such a large scale, Lauscha thought.
There was a plaque in the back that basically said, Let us build a church so grandiose that those who see it will think we are mad, Lauscha said. We are talking about Seville. Were not talking about Rome or London or Paris. Then I think, hey, it wasnt long ago when New Orleans a mid-sized port city decided it was going to have a vision to be the greatest in the world, and we built the Superdome. How was it that this small town had the vision that those folks in Seville had to see what can be accomplished?
The Saints pay careful attention to their audience. They poll fans each year about their game-day experience and also seek, in a sense, to evangelize by casting a wide net. Lauscha said there are 7 million people living within a reasonable drive of New Orleans all of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Those living outside the metropolitan area now represent about 35% of ticket sales.
He said there are three things that drive ticket sales: You have to be priced right; the team has to be heading in the right direction; and the fans have to like the players, coaches and owners. Thats it.
The likability factor comes down to personal integrity, which Lauscha said was instilled in him from his time at Jesuit. He mentioned the success of the Pelicans sticking together through injuries and early-season losses to make the playoffs. There were even players, such as Josh Hart and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who were traded but stayed around that night to attend a game courtside at the Smoothie King Center just to say goodbye to their former teammates.
That kind of bond is virtually unheard of in todays bottom-line professional sports.
That value proposition starts with you, he said. What do I bring to the organization? What do my colleagues, employees and other team members bring to the organization? We always have to be respectful of others. Its amazing what we can accomplish when we realize we dont care who gets the credit.
Among all of those things, even deeper, is a recognition that you must be humble in the eyes of God. It all starts there. If youre not humble there, then the whole value proposition falls apart. We see that in the Ten Commandments, we see that in the Golden Rule, we see that in Jesuit education. It begins with the acknowledgment that everything we do, we do for the greater glory of God. A.M.D.G.

Death penalty
In response to Death penalty positions in your May 26th issue calling for supreme Court Justices Alito, Thomas, Roberts, Kavanaugh and Coney Barrett to be denied Communion for their stand on the death penalty, I submit that we Read and follow Gods instructions rather than our personal feelings. God places such a high value on Human life that He commands the death penalty for those who murder, (Not to be confused with justifiable killing). In fact, the death penalty is the only commandment that is repeated in all 5 books of the Torah. I think that says something about Gods position on the subject. (Gen 9:5&6; Exodus 21:12-14, 28-29; Leviticus 24:17. 21; Numbers 35:16-21, 29-33; Deuteronomy 19:11-13).
Lee BurkeSt. Margaret Mary, Golden Valley
The possible overturning of Roe V Wade, and giving the abortion decision back to the states, might help us to admit what abortion really is. It is not only torturing and killing living human babies, but also insulting them by calling their deaths Health Care. Honesty is needed. Death should cause, and require, grieving. Pre-born babies are too small and helpless to fight for themselves against the selfishness exhibited by our forgetting or denying where we came from. We need to thank God, and our mothers, and pass on what we have been given: life. The Silver Rule, the other side of the Golden Rule, says, Do not do to others what you would not want done to you.
