Maryland voters to decide in November to legalize sports gambling – WDVM 25
Posted: September 18, 2020 at 1:09 am
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (WDVM) Maryland residents can place wagers at the race track, at a casino table games and slot machines, but not sports betting.
That may change in November, though, if voters approve a referendum to allow sports gaming companies like Draft Kings and FanDuel to do business in the state. Last month New Jersey placed $668 million in legal sports wagers, money that goes for education. And Marylands neighbors either all have sports betting now or are getting ready to launch.
James Smith lives across the Maryland line in Pennsylvania and says I would definitely vote for it. If its for schools, they could use the money. I know schools are a little tight on money up in our area so Im sure its the same down here.
The sports wagering question is one of only two statewide ballot questions this November. The other would give the legislature more power over state spending.

How Marijuana Impacts Your Gambling – Vegas Casinos and Marijuana – BestUSCasinos.org
Posted: at 1:09 am
After the legalization of recreational marijuana in Nevada, it was only a matter of time before Las Vegas saw an influx of vendors for the well-known psychoactive drug.
Now that Las Vegas is filled with cannabis stores, many gamblers have found themselves smoking or consuming marijuana or edibles before gambling. This is a practice that at best is foolish and, at worst, can cost you some serious cash.
Here are several reasons why consuming marijuana before gambling is a bad idea.
One of the biggest reasons why its not a good idea to consume marijuana in any form before gambling is the effect it will have on your reaction time.
Marijuana is well-known to affect reaction time, but you might be asking yourself, why does my reaction time matter in a casino? Its a good question, and it has a right answer. Gambling in many forms requires you to move quickly and make fast decisions for a simple reason. Its because youre often playing with other people.
Lets look at an example. Imagine that youre playing craps for real money . Everyone around you has had maybe a drink or two at best, which means theyre paying attention to every roll of the dice. When bets are being made, theyre usually being made quickly. Its a fast-paced game. And because everyone is playing together, theyre all counting on you to make your bets at the same speed theyre making their own.
That means they expect you to not only know the game and its ins and outs, but they also expect you to make your bets quickly.
If you dont, youre going to be the most hated guy at the table (unless youre making a lot of dont pass bets at the same time, which will make you even more unpopular).
Now, imagine that youre taking your sweet time deciding what to bet because youve consumed too much marijuana, and your reaction times are slowed. Youre struggling to understand whats going on and what the outcomes of each roll are.
But you still want to make your bets. You always want to participate. Everyone else is drinking a little, so theyre in a jovial mood, but also a party mood. They want fast-paced fun, and they want it now. And yet, here you are slowing their roll. You can see how this would go poorly for you. Youre a buzzkill, and that might lead to you feeling uncomfortable, to say the least.
Lets look at another example. Suppose you walk into the casino to make some money playing poker. You sit down at the table to play some Texas Holdem, waiting for the button to pass to you.
When you get the first hand, it takes you a while to realize the value of what youre holding and make a decision on what to bet. Everyone whos having a beer or three is wondering whats taking so long. Theyre already annoyed at the new guy.
But you keep being slow. You keep taking your time on every bet. Everyone else already has their bets planned out the moment the cards hit the table. Theyre ready to reevaluate when other bets are made.
Youre never ready. Everyone is always waiting for you. Resentment is rising, and suddenly, you find that everyone is basically playing against you and trying to push you out. Its not all about the other people though. Slow reaction times in games by yourself can be problematic, too.
Lets say you came to the casino to play some blackjack. You sit down at an empty table where its just you and the dealer. Youre trying to play quickly so that you can make some decent money per hour because youve practiced your betting strategy, your playing strategy, and card counting.
But because your reaction times are slowed, youre finding that you have to really think for a while before youre able to decide how you want to play or how you want to bet. Youre taking your time counting the cards. Maybe youre confused and cant quite count the cards the way you want to.
See the problem? No matter how you slice it, its not going to work out well to smoke or consume marijuana then try to gamble. Youre either self-sabotaging, or youre outright annoying people.
A continuous problem in the world of state-legalized recreational marijuana is the fact that it remains illegal at the federal level. Although many are advocating for the federal government to legalize marijuana at the federal level, it seems unlikely for the decriminalization of marijuana to occur in the near future.
Youre probably wondering why this matters. I can tell you that you only have to look at all the instances of federal raids on both medical and recreational marijuana dispensaries to understand that federal enforcement is still happening and is still a concern.
A consequence of the drugs illegality at the federal level is that banks are hesitant to work with dispensaries because of the laws concerning money laundering and drugs. The banks are concerned that they could be considered to have laundered drug money if they work with these dispensaries, so they have consistently refused to work with cannabis businesses.
You can probably see where this is going. The gambling industry isnt happy about all the marijuana shops that have sprung around Las Vegas. Many of these shops are right on the street outside the big casinos on the Strip.
Casinos are wary, to say the least, of having marijuana anywhere on their premises. Its possible they can lose their gaming license.
While there are marijuana-friendly hotels in Las Vegas, you cant just smoke anywhere inside a casino. The laws concerning marijuana consumption require you to be on private property.
If your room reeks of marijuana, you may be kicked out of the premises or possibly arrested and fined. Vegas casinos take this very seriously.
Even if youve consumed marijuana outside of a casino then gone inside to gamble, you run into another problem that is probably far worse than slow reaction timesproblems with your judgment.
Judgment is critical to making potentially successful bets at table games. While you can probably get away with consuming marijuana then tangling with the one-armed bandit (you only need to bet on all the lines after all), playing at the tables is very different.
You could probably get away with playing a game of pure chance like roulette. Still, any casino games that requires skill, like blackjack or poker, is going to be much more challenging to play successfully with marijuana in your system.
Games like blackjack require careful judgment and a good memory. Marijuana can affect short-term memory, which is a critical piece of memory if youre going to count cards, but it also affects your ability to make good decisions.
The wrong decision could cost you at the blackjack or poker tables.
Another problem is not just bad judgment but complete confusion. Even at low doses, marijuana can cause confusion, depending on the individual. Confusion, even in front of a slot machine, can be a severe problem.
For example, imagine that youre at the blackjack table, and the dealer has an ace showing. Perhaps insurance is offered, but you become confused about your own hand because you have ace nine. You end up making the wrong decision and lose some serious money.
You can see the same thing happening at the poker table. You become confused about the ranking of your poker hand and make the wrong bet, only to find out that you actually should have folded.
The best way to avoid the problems of mixing gambling with marijuana is to not consume marijuana at all. And if youre already taking advantage of the free drinks on the casino floor, then it may be best to think twice about smoking or consuming edibles.
Do you have experience consuming marijuana while gambling? Do you agree or disagree with this article? Let me know in the comments.

How to Manage Your Casino Bankroll – Gambling With Only 100 Dollars – BestUSCasinos.org
Posted: at 1:09 am
Sometimes I like to write posts that are more like thought experiments based on a cool title Ive come up with.
This is one of those posts.
What Id like you to imagine is this:
You have a $100 gambling bankroll, and it MUST last you the rest of your life.
Youre allowed to put money that youve won into your bankroll, but you CANNOT ever again put money from a paycheck into your bankroll.
What do you do?
You have lots of options in this situation. One of those is to keep gambling the way you gamble now. If youre like a lot of my readers, youre probably a recreational casino gambler.
How does recreational casino gambling work in the long run?
Since every casino game has a mathematical house edge, if you play any of these games long enough, youll lose all your money.
You might be up some of the time, down some of the time, and look like youre breaking even some of the time.
But the overall graph will eventually trend toward 0.
Thats just how casino games work.
Unless youre playing the smallest of microstakes casino games, your $100 bankroll just wont last long.
And then, per the rules of this thought experiment, you must stop gambling for the rest of your life.
That wouldnt be the worst outcome in the world, but you have other options, too.
Not all gamblers take the worst of it on every bet. Some gamblers only gamble when they have the best of it. These special souls are called advantage players or advantage gamblers. In sports betting, theyre often called sharps.
How do you get a mathematical edge when you gamble?
With some games, you cant.
If youre a slot machine player, for example, youll almost never have a mathematical edge unless you find a progressive jackpot thats large enough to make a spin of the reels a positive expectation bet.
The problem with that is this:
Even though you might have a positive expectation on a progressive jackpot, your probability of hitting that jackpot is so close to 0% that it might as well be a negative expectation game.
Ill assume that almost all gambling activities have a negative expectation that you cant alter, but here are some games where you can get an edge:
You could find other examples, but those are the prominent ones that I want to discuss in this post.
Even when you have a mathematical edge over the casino, the other player, or the sportsbook, you can still go broke.
Heres an example:
In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump was a huge underdog. Hilary Clinton seemed like a sure thing, but she was only a 70/30 favorite.
If youd bet your entire bankroll on Clinton to win, youd be broke and wouldnt be able to gamble anymore. Ever.
The risk of ruin in that bet was simple you had a 30% probability of losing your entire bankroll.
If youd bet a smaller amount of your bankroll, youd have a lower risk of ruin, because youd have to lose more than that one bet to go broke. It would take longer, too, because youre going to win some of your bets some of the time.
Thats just how it works.
It works in reverse, too. If you bet too large a percentage of your bankroll on a wager where you have a mathematical edge, you still risk going broke.
Heres an example:
Youre a Texas holdem player, and you sit down at a no limit table where the buy-in is $100. Since you might need to bet your entire stack at any time, your risk of ruin is high. You could mitigate this somewhat by refusing to go all-in unless you have the stone cold nuts, but you cant get a mathematical edge if youre not willing to make the mathematically correct plays on every hand.
And sometimes the mathematically correct play is to go all in.
Casino bankroll requirements vary based on what gambling activity youre engaging in, but they always have one thing in common:
You must bet a small percentage of your bankroll to avoid the risk of ruin.
Since gambling is random, you could have a losing streak. Your mathematical expectation is a long-term phenomenon, but you cant get into the long run unless you stay in the game and avoid going broke.
If youre a card counter, your risk of ruin is 40% if you only have 200 betting units in your bankroll. It drops to 20% if you have 400 betting units, and it drops to 1 if you have 1000 betting units.
If you have a $100 bankroll to start with, this means you divide your $100 into that number of betting units.
If youre okay with having a 40% probability of going broke and never gambling again, you can play for 50 cents per hand.
If youre okay with having a 20% probability of going broke and never gambling again, you can play for 25 cents per hand.
And, if you want to minimize your risk of ruin to 1%, you can play for 10 cents per hand.
Of course, you cant find a casino not a brick and mortar casino, anyway that offers blackjack for such low stakes.
And you cant count cards at online casinos, even if you could find one with such low betting limits.
So, blackjack might not be the game for someone with a $100 bankroll who wants to stay in the game for the rest of his life.
A few years ago, Chris Ferguson set out on a challenge to win $10,000 with a starting bankroll of $0. If Chris Ferguson can turn nothing into $10,000, surely you can stay in the game with your $100 bankroll.
What does that take, though?
Poker also has a risk of ruin, so you must keep the size of your buy-ins and the sizes of your bets low in comparison to your bankroll.
This means playing in low stakes even microstakes games until youve won enough money to move up in stakes.
Ferguson is a world-class real money poker player, and heres how he managed his poker bankroll during this challenge:
To start with, he only played in freerolls. These are poker tournaments with no buy-in, but they still offer cash prizes. You could theoretically make your $100 bankroll last forever if you stuck with freerolls, by the way.
He was aggressive once he built up a bankroll, though he would allow himself to spend up to 5% of his bankroll to buy into cash games or sit and go (single table) tournaments.
With your $100 bankroll, you could sit down at a table where the buy-in is just $5. You could also play in a sit-n-go tournament with a $5 buy-in.
Fergusons rule for bankroll management was to never spend more than 2% of his bankroll on a multi-table tournament. If youre starting with $100, this means you could buy into a multi-table tournament for $2.
You cant games at such low stakes in brick and mortar casinos. In fact, you wont find games with stakes this low in most home games, either.
Youll need to find a poker site that offers microstakes games.
But when you do, if you play a disciplined, positive expectation game of poker, you can watch your bankroll grow over time.
And it will snowball, too. It might take you 6 months to turn $100 into $1000, but you might be able to turn that $1000 into $10,000 in another 3 months.
All this analysis is meaningless if you dont have a mathematical edge, though. If youre lousy at blackjack card counting, youll go broke no matter what if you play long enough. Thats true in poker, too if youre not an elite player (top 5%), youll go broke.
And if you play other negative expectation games craps, roulette, slot machines, etc. the entire discussion is moot.
So, heres the $100 bankroll challenge:
If you want to be a responsible gambler for the rest of your life, set aside $100 today for your gambling bankroll.
Resolve to never again make another bet unless you have a mathematical edge.
Then never bet a large amount of your bankroll at one time. Limit yourself to betting between 1% and 5% of your bankroll, no matter what gambling activity you decide to specialize in.
If you go broke, never gamble again.
After all, there ARE better ways to spend your money.

Most people dont pay much mind to crypto gambling, unless they are players themselves. However, crypto gambling is a significant part of the cryptocurrency market. For example, in 2018 Bitcoin casinos were responsible for approximately 50% of all BTC transactions. So lets look past the surface and dive a little deeper. Heres what you should know about Bitcoin gambling on the surface web and the deep web.
Simply put, crypto casinos are casinos where players can top up their wallets, hold accounts and pay out their winnings in some form of cryptocurrency. Casino Guru, which has the largest up-to-date database of online casinos, additionally defines two varieties of crypto casinos. The first variety could be considered a standard crypto casino, is basically the same as any other online casino, but allows players to make deposits, play, and/or cash out in cryptocurrencies.
It requires identity verification, a standard feature of the online gambling industry. But there are also so-called anonymous casinos, which require no identity confirmation at all, only an e-mail, username, password and a crypto wallet. The Casino Guru database contains 161 casinos that can be classified as crypto casinos, but only 32 anonymous casinos.
Why has crypto gambling gained so much traction? To understand the answer to that question, we need to have a quick look at some of the legislation concerned with online gambling in general. Online gambling is very strictly regulated or outright banned in many countries. For example, there are only three states in the entirety of the USA, where online casinos are allowed operation. The Unlawful Illegal Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006 forbids online wagering. But it has a loophole. It only specifies wagering in fiat.
And its not just America, that has a hole in their legislation in terms of crypto gambling. In truth, there are only 7 countries in the entire world which have a semblance of crypto gambling regulation. Namely, these are: the UK, Italy, Netherlands, Greece, Poland, Belgium and Japan, which is currently considering legislative solutions.
Coming back to the two varieties of crypto casinos mentioned earlier, anonymous casinos actually cant get a license anywhere at the moment, even if they wanted to. The way they operate just doesnt match the requirements of any reputable online gambling licensing authority.
For the majority of the world, bitcoin and other crypto are casinos in a legal grey area not technically legal, but not illegal either. So, players that couldnt scratch their gambling itch otherwise suddenly found themselves with a solution. A solution that allows them play anonymously (in some cases), from the comfort of their home and offers them an incredibly wide variety of games to choose from.
Though it is true that countries can still bar their citizens access to certain sites, like these crypto gambling sites specifically, this has done nothing to stop determined players. In the past, gamblers needed to download the TOR browser (abbr. The Onion Router), which granted them access past the constraints of surface web browsers and into the deep net. There, Hidden Wikis, which are sites aggregating links to various parts of the deep net linked to a crypto casino of their choosing and their game began. The benefit of this being that the combination of TOR and cryptocurrencies made them virtually untraceable by their own governments.
But there is a reason to why there are so many horror stories about the deep web. The deep web harbors numerous fraudsters and scam artists, which well get into in a second. But thankfully, the advent and popularization of VPNs (abbr. Virtual Private Networks) has enabled players to enjoy safer experiences on the surface web. Crypto casinos operating on the surface web often publicize parts of the code they run on to boost trust with their customer base and avoid the negative reputation deep web crypto casinos have garnered.
As you can imagine, theres a big BUT to everything weve told you so far. Be honest, you saw it coming from a mile away. So, whatre the issues with crypto gambling?
1) Crypto gambling can be fraught with crime. Especially so on the deep web, but you can run into scams and unfair practices even on the surface web. As the Routine Activities Theory of crime states, crime occurs whenever a suitable victim, a lack of capable guardian and a motivated criminal come together in one place. And when you have people willing to risk their hard-earned crypto on gambling, in an environment with limited or no law enforcement, youll find plenty of people more than willing to rid these players of their BTC.The most popular crypto gambling scams across the web are:
On top of that, money laundering is also a quite common occurrence in the crypto gambling sphere. But its not just the players who are at risk. Even the casino itself can become a victim to hackers, which would love nothing more than to empty out the casinos crypto wallet.
2) Crypto gambling can be even more addicting than traditional gambling. Problem gambling, also known as gambling addiction, is an issue that the entire gambling industry at large has to face. However, though traditional casinos and betting can be addictive, online gambling even more so, crypto gambling poses the biggest risk to unsuspecting gamblers.
Crypto casinos operating on the fringe of the law can titillate potential customers with very aggressive advertising and marketing tactics, making them offers on bonuses and benefits, which no other casino can. Thats due to the fact that unlicensed casinos do not have to pay the standard fees that come with gambling operations, like tax, licensing fees, etc.
Then, once the player is drawn in, they get hit with the promise of fast payouts, quick game results and nearly limitless bet heights. Some illegal BTC casinos take full advantage of their position and completely disregard the recommended responsible gambling practices. After all, the more players you hook, the more money you make. Then, theres the simultaneous benefit and downside of anonymity. Since anonymous crypto casinos dont require any form of identity confirmation, theyre easily accessible even to people who have no business being there. That goes for self-excluded players, as well as underage gamblers, who are especially vulnerable to gambling addiction.
In closing, though the siren call of crypto casinos may be tempting, be aware of the dangers that you might face by choosing to chase those sweet crypto winnings. Though therealways is a risk factor ingambling, but playing in unlicensed casinos may make the risk greater than it is worth.

Who To Bet On For Gambling Content This Football Season – Barrett Sports Media
Posted: at 1:09 am
One of the greatest aspects of working in the Las Vegas market was the direct exposure to the sports gambling world. Prior to my time there, I had a limited sports gambling resume that consisted of watching Casino hundreds of times.
Following two years of working and living in the sports gaming capital of the world, I learned the industry firsthand and met the key players. When thinking of who to follow, who to book and who to invest in, my shortlist below includes highlights of my Q&A with each.
So, as the NFL season kicks off with the NHL, NBA and MLB all in play, I present which sharps Id bet on. These are the names that will help give you a competitive advantage, keep your audience entertained and, in my opinion, could give Lefty Rosenthal a run for his money.
1. Dave Cokin, professional sports handicapper
A fixture of the sports gambling community for decades, who radiates character, experience and a wealth knowledge. His ability to transcend to a national, regional or local audience in an effortless manner comes with decades of experience on the media and gambling scenes in Las Vegas. Looking for an authentic Old Vegas sharp with a phenomenal record? Look no further.
Follow Dave Cokin on Twitter @davecokin.
2. Chad Millman, The Action Network
Former editorial director and editor-in-chief of ESPN: The Magazine and editorial director for ESPN digital, Chad Millman, left ESPN in September of 2017 to help launch The Action Network, where he is the Chief Content Officer.
Weve been really thoughtful about who we bring in, and what their reputation is and what people cover and your audiences. Information from Jason Sobel, who is probably the premiere golf writer of his generation, who also happens to be an incredibly knowledgeable bettor and daily fantasy player. Thats really valuable because it speaks to a sport that we believe a lot in as far as potential, and he brings an audience that otherwise might not have known who we were or thought about betting.
And we have guys like Chris Raybon, who established himself as a very smart analytics driven fantasy analyst, who also was a very big bettor and knew the betting space really well, but didnt really have any place to express himself with that. And some of the ideas that he has are so contrarian to what everyone else is putting out there, and consistently proven to be successful.
Then, two of our college football experts Colin Wilson and Stuckey, who are honestly, to me, the best examples of old-school Vegas guys, who do a ton of research and know the numbers really well and also know personnel incredibly well. They watch so many games and they are long time betters, and theyre as easy to connect to as anybody you will ever meet when it comes to betting. Theyre the guys you can talk to about betting in the bar, who are not going to make you feel silly if you dont know anything about betting. You can ask them anything and theyre only going to want to share what they know, theyre not going to judge you.
With a 4.8 rating in the App Store, The Action Network has won the best betting content award, a huge accomplishment in and of itself.

Sports betting experience: over 40 years.
Age at the time he placed his first bet: 10 years old
One of the best in the business, known for his thoughtful analysis and authenticity, DAngelo has had immense success and overwhelmingly positive reputation as a professional sports handicapper and bettor.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on sports, the sports betting world has been impacted and the long term effects and continual adaptations are far reaching in scope.
Theres a difference of playing in a bubble, like the hockey and basketball, where everything is, you know, super controlled as to whats going to happen with football where the teams are going to travel like baseball, you know, theyre keeping the teams, you know, under wraps when theyre on the road and so forth.
Now, whats going to happen with the football season is youre going to have an injury report, like you always do. But as the week goes on, the players are going to call the test and all the time youre going to theres going to be cases. Its going to happen. Somebodys going to test and then its going to depend on how many tests and what players youre losing for that particular game. And until its a big key player, you know, its not gonna make any news. That could throw so many things off.
When youre dealing with the statistics, if a quarterback goes down, a quarterback tests positive and he has to be a scratch for that game that week, thats going to be big! Then, you know, do you play the game? At the beginning of the week, when youre trying to get the best number possible, you know, thats the cat and mouse game about sports wagering is you want to lock in the best price. You want to get the dog at the highest peak, and you want to get the favorite at the lowest value. As far as what the line is, you could take a team that you bet on Monday or Tuesday at minus seven, something happens to a team player you know, it is rolled out Friday or Saturday, and all of a sudden, that ticket that youre holding is minus seven. The line went down to minus three and a half and youre screwed. Youre stuck with minus seven.
So, theres going to be instances where there will be problems and its going to be just something that were going to have to adapt to on the fly. And as we see this go along, you know, theres only one or two isolated cases where you know, a COVID case really affected a lot.
Theyre the people setting the lines, everybody else is betting and handicapping has that same information. Stats are the stats. They dont lie, they dont change numbers or numbers, but for my element I add situational lines. Just like, you know with work, lets face it, were all the same. We come to work every day and we put forth the good we bring, we try to bring our best every day. But there are certain daysyou just dont bring your A game. Professional athletes are the same way. Theyre still human beings at the end of the day, and I try to find those peaks and valleys because if everybody else has all the same information as far as stats go, I need to find something thats going to give me the value to be the numbers that are based on those stats.
The expertise Wager Talk offers ranges in scope, specialty, age and has an incredibly diverse, deep bench of talent.

Stones Gambling Hall and Kuraitis Cleared in Alleged Cheating – OnlinePokerAmerica.com

The alleged cheating scheme facilitated by Stones Gambling Hall in Citrus Heights is finally coming to an end with a $30 million lawsuit reaching a conclusion with the majority of plaintiffs accepting the terms of a newly-brokered deal between all parties involved.
It took a year, but finally an amicable settlement has been reached, confirmed Maurice Mac VerStandig, a lawyer who took the case including some 90 plaintiffs who alleged that Stones Gambling Hall and Mike Postle, the player who was allegedly cheating but was acquitted earlier this year, had been cheating.
Postle was winning 94% of his hands in games hosted by the venue. As it turns out, though, no foul play had been involved, VerStandig said on behalf of 60 plaintiffs, with the rest still considering whether to submit an amended complaint by October 1, 2020.
The settlement effectively led to the dismissal of the case against Justin Kuraitis, a Stones live poker manager, who was accused of facilitating the cheating that supposedly took place during the live games.
After reviewing the footage closely, though, even VerStandig said that he and the plaintiffs were sure that there had been no cheating on behalf of Postle, the venue or Kuraitis.
Based on our investigation, we are satisfied that Stones and Mr. Kuraitis were not involved in any cheating that may have occurred. While Stones has not spoken publicly regarding the details of their investigation during its pendency, its counsel and Mr. Kuraitis counsel have been immensely cooperative behind-the-scenes.
Nevertheless, Richard Pachter, attorney for Justin Kuraitis cautioned that the settlement was not final and that there were plaintiffs who may choose to pursue the case.
Previously, the case was dismissed by a federal judge in Sacramento who argued that under California law, lawsuits to recover gambling losses may not be filed. The plaintiffs had to amend their complaint and filed it again which eventually led to this weeks settlement.
The case has had its twists and turns. Mike Postle, the player around whom the entire case was focused on was not mentioned in the settlement. He was acquitted previously and now that Stones Gambling Hall and Kuraitis are in the clear, the case can finally be settled.
That is unless the remaining plaintiffs choose to pursue the case further and resubmit an amended complaint. Veronica Brill, a recreational player, was the first to throw the first punch at Mike Postle arguing that his winning streak, with Postle amassing some $250,000 between July 2018 and September 2019, was due to cheating with the help of someone at the casino.
Now that none of the allegations have been proven that begs the question whether the community doesnt owe Postle and Kuraitis an apology. Both individuals reputations were tarnished with Twitter users taking jabs at them online and calling them cheaters.
Commenting on the social media pressure, Kuraitis had this to say cited by the Merced Sun-Star: The Twitter mob is real, it is ugly, and it has real life consequences. I have never before experienced so much hatred, ignorance and even threats of violence.
Postle has decided to withdraw from live poker, and with the COVID-19 lockdown hitting all poker rooms across the United States, it may be the right time for a break. In the meantime, VerStandig explained that Stone Gambling Hall has even agreed to pay an undisclosed settlement sum as a token of good will.

Which are the best jurisdictions to get an online gambling license in and why? – Yogonet International
Posted: August 10, 2020 at 4:45 pm
O
ver the last six months, this already dynamic industry has continued to grow and evolve. As a result, more intrepid entrepreneurs are on the lookout for licensing opportunities to realise their vision.
A growing number of jurisdictions are offering up licenses for online gambling operators, but of course, not all are created equally. Cost, fees, application processing time, terms, limitations, and ongoing maintenance are all factors that need to be considered before a decision is made. After all, making the wrong decision can be detrimental both financially and in terms of your success.
Based on over two decades of experience in iGaming, Fast Offshore brings you the three best (in our opinion) jurisdictions to acquire an online gambling license. Within these licenses, there is something to suit every budget and requirement.
Curacao
The Island of Curacao is located in the Caribbean Sea and it has been home to a successful financial services hub for around 200 years. Then in 1996, the authorities issued the very first online gambling license. Since then, Curacao has become a go-to place for startups and entrepreneurs looking for licensing for their online platforms.
The Curacao online gambling license is particularly beneficial for these kinds of enterprises as the cost of the license is more efficient than in other jurisdictions. Additionally, requirements and obligations are less complex and more streamlined. This means the issuance time of the license is significantly lower than others, making it an obvious choice for those that want to get up and running quickly.
But by far the best benefit of the Curacao license is the 0% rate tax and no requirements for additional gaming taxes or similar. This key plus-point is still in line with EU rules on tax compliance and fiscal practices.
Kahnawake
A First Nations Reserve in Canada, the Kahnawake territory has been offering online gambling licenses to operators that meet its requirements for around 20 years. The Kahnawake Gaming Commission which oversees the applications and supervision of licensees has created a framework that is flexible and amenable to small to medium enterprises.
While the license is a little more costly than Curacaos, it is still cost-efficient and relatively straight forward. There is also zero gaming tax or income tax to be paid on revenue generated outside of the Territory- a great bonus for those on a budget or looking to minimize start-up costs. Furthermore, Kahnawake has a solid reputation and enforces comprehensive compliance, fair, and responsible gaming guidelines.
Malta
The fully-fledged EU Member State has been issuing licenses since the year 2000. It has now cemented its place as one of the worlds most respected online gambling licensing jurisdictions. It is home to some of the biggest international gaming operators as well as ancillary service providers including affiliates, software developers, and game developers.
Last year, the MGA made some changes to iGaming legislation that streamlined the licensing process and restructured the fees. Instead of having to apply for a different license depending on the types of games you offer, now, applicants choose between a B2C or B2B license. The process is still stringent and costly- after all such a prestigious license comes at a price.
License holders can enjoy fiscal benefits including a full imputation system on dividends paid to shareholders. They also benefit from operating in and from an EU member state.
The last word
Picking a jurisdiction to start your online gambling or casino business is a difficult process. Not only do you need to consider the licensing process but you should consider the process of company incorporation, tax, banking and other matters as well. Some jurisdictions also have restrictions on where you can offer your services when you are up and running.
Different licensing authorities also have different standards of compliance, policies, responsible gaming, and other operational matters. Therefore, it is wise to engage with a professional who has extensive knowledge of not just the industry, but the intricate requirements of each jurisdiction. Ideally, you want someone that can take care of all matters from start to finish, giving you time to focus on other matters relating to the launch of your new venture.
