Casino Resorts Encourage Gambling Tourism

For many years, cities have not just been offering casinos. They have been turning these areas into resorts for tourists and making the whole gambling experience more like a vacation. Take a look at Las Vegas. You have the Strip full of amazing hotels with unbelievable theming, as well as restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Of course, the casinos are always busy and that is why a lot of people visit Sin City. But they can get everything they want in a vacation rolled into one. In 2019, around 42.5 million people visited Las Vegas, Nevada.

It is not just the United States that attracts gambling tourism. There are other major cities around the world that are starting to bring in a lot of vacationers looking to spend money and gamble. For example, Macau in China has become very popular for gambling. A lot of people visit on vacation for the citys cool themed casinos that are rivalling the Las Vegas Strip. It is called the gamblers paradise and claims to have everything you could want. Other popular destinations that continue to be popular include Monte Carlo in Monaco and London in the UK.

Online Gambling and How it Has Changed the Industry

There is no doubt that players are drawn to online casinos and betting websites since they can offer so much. You can find your favorite games online and play from the comfort of your own home. You can gamble anytime and anywhere. Whats more, a lot of websites have a lot of deals and promotions running, which means that you can be enticed to play less and have the opportunity to win more. Indeed, many people think; why should I go to Las Vegas when I can play Nevada online poker at home?

Online gambling is likely to keep growing in popularity. But this does not mean that it is going to completely replace gambling tourism and brick-and-mortar casinos. Some people are still going to seek the vacation and opportunity to have an exciting night in the casino with their loved ones. The good thing about online gambling is that you can play anywhere and you can play on your own. But in-person casinos are more of a social outing with your friends and family members. It is more of an occasion.

Indeed, it is likely that someone that enjoys in-person casinos and takes part in gambling tourism will also benefit from online gambling. They all offer different types of fun and for the player, they create more opportunities. You can benefit from the competition.

Does The House Have the Edge When Gambling? – The Game Haus

Posted: at 10:00 am

While the thrill that is associated with winning at the casino amongst gamblers usually keeps them always tied to the game, it is without doubt that most often the house ultimately has an edge. There are several parameters that make it easy for the house to have an advantage over the gamblers. Some of such factors are by design while some can be said to be just out of natural occurrence.

In this content piece we are going to discuss some of the reasons why the house is in fact the real party in gambling that has an edge. Read on to find out more.

Basically, the House Edge is a term that is most commonly used to refer to the mathematical advantage the game of gambling, and therefore the physical gambling venue, has got over the gambler as he plays over time. Thanks to this edge, the house is assured of a certain percentage of return over time. Unfortunately for the gambler, the converse is the end result, an assured percentage of loss on what he or she bets.

With this understanding, it is therefore prudent on the gambler to be aware of the fact that betting and gambling dont provide foolproof winning. Of course the gambler can win for a little while, but not the long run.

Well, gambling is a business to begin with and those who set them up do so to make profits. They arent doing it all just for fun or enjoyment and of course the goal of any business that operates in the world is to create profits. That being said, the house edge is designed to help the gambling provider being a commercial business to cover for its operation costs. The business has got staff to pay and bills to cater for and a goal to make profits.

Basically, the profits that the gambling provider makes come from the very monies that gamblers pay to play. And it doesnt matter the kind of gambling game thats involved, whether Blackjack, Roulette, Poker, Keno or any other type of gambling game. The Casino games house edgeis designed solely for the benefit of the casino business and not the player!

The house edge is usually designed in such a way that a particular percentage of money that is placed by the gambler will ultimately remain there. An example is where a house edge could be built on a given poker machine where at least 12% of every bet made goes back to the business.

In poker machines there is what is called the random number generator. This is actually a computer that is programmed to choose a combination of symbols at a random fashion. To help the house remain with a specific predetermined amount, the random number generator designed in such a way that there will be more losses than wins.

With the explanation of house edge above, it clearly shows that the casinos will ultimately win in the long run. Does this mean therefore that it is hopeless for players to play and expect to win? No, it is quite possible for any player to win at a casino despite the house edge. However, players need to be alive to the fact that they can only win in the short term and not in the long run.

It must be noted that it takes several thousands of bets to enable the house edge to even itself. There is no reason therefore for any player who is keen on trying luck to do and be able to win in the short term.

First time player, for instance, could spin the wheel and be able to win absolutely on the first spin of the wheel. If such a player did not play again and decided to proceed straight home, the winning will be his or hers to enjoy.

There is also a scenario where the number predicted by the player could come up more than is expected in a couple of spins. This will comfortably help the player to win and beat the house without ever losing a penny!

In gambling it is important for players to always be aware that the oddsare usually ultimately against them. However, there is also a chance that players can occasionally be able to beat the odds and win. In gambling, players arent always in the loop of whats going to happen and this is why they need to be realistic in their expectations when playing. The game could be much exciting for the players if they cared to be alive to the fact that perhaps gambling is just a game!

Announcement expected very soon for online gambling – WOODTV.com

Posted: at 10:00 am

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Get ready to place your bets. The Michigan Gaming Control Board is set to roll out their timeline for online gaming in a matter of days.

Rick Kalm, the executive director of the board, confirmed that with News 8 on Wednesday. Kalm says he hopes to have an announcement ready by Friday.

Late last month, the board refused to give a firm timetable, saying they were aiming for mid-January. The Gaming Control Board has been working quickly to get provisional licenses approved for Michigan casinos and their platforms.

Gambling was legalized by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in December 2019, but online gaming required its own new set of rules and licenses. Those were approved by the legislature last month.

Experts forecast online gambling will generate more than $90 million in revenue in its first year. The commercial casinos MGM Grand Detroit, Motor City and Greektown will pay an 8.4% tax on online gambling revenues. Of that, 4.62% goes to their local jurisdiction (Detroit) and 3.78% goes to the state, which is allocated to the School Aid Fund.

So far, 15 casinos and their vendors have been granted their provisional licenses. The Board continues to work with the other ones, but some casinos will still likely be waiting for their licenses on opening day.

Volberg to Serve on ‘Lancet Public Health’ Commission on Gambling – UMass News and Media Relations

Posted: at 10:00 am

Research professor of epidemiology Rachel Volberg has been invited to serve on The Lancet Public Health Commission on Gambling for an 18-month term running through the summer of 2022. She joins an international, multidisciplinary group aiming for transformational change in policy and political action.

The Lancet Public Health announced the launch of the journals inaugural Commission on Gambling in its January 2021 issue, citing the need for scientific inquiry and response to an urgent, neglected, understudied, and worsening public health predicament. Regulators and legislators have struggled to keep pace with the rapid development of the commercial gambling industry, they note, adding that Online gambling and its marketing remain poorly regulated in many nations and the risks posed by expanding commercial gambling, and specifically online gambling, are high, especially due to the lack of support mechanisms for those most impacted by gambling harms.

The commission will apply a public health lens to gambling-related harms, examining the multiple intersections between the social, commercial, and political determinants of health.

I am honored to have been invited to join The Lancet Public Health Commission on Gambling which represents a significant milestone in the recognition of gambling as a risk-based and health harming product, says Volberg. Our goal is to thoroughly consider the global issues related to gambling and to set forth internationally relevant recommendations that governments can adopt to protect populations from public health harms of gambling.

Volberg, who has studied gambling and problem gambling across the world for more than three decades, is the principal investigator for the Social and Economic Impacts of Gambling in Massachusetts (SEIGMA) research project. Funded by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, the SEIGMA team is completing an unprecedented 12-year investigation of the socioeconomic impacts of introducing casino gambling in the state. Volberg also spearheads a separate Massachusetts Gambling Impact Cohort (MAGIC) study funded by the Gaming Commission. It is the first major study of its type in the U.S. to examine how problem gambling develops over time.

The Lancet Public Health is among the family of The Lancetjournals addressing urgent topics in society, initiating debate and putting science into context. The journal seeks to contribute to advancing health equity, public health practice and policy making worldwide.

EDITORIAL: Atlantic Lotto abets addiction with online gambling gambit – The Journal Pioneer

Posted: at 10:00 am

Provincial governments in the Atlantic region already know the risks.

It remains to be seen just how many will go for the money anyway.

Right now, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation is operating an online casino in New Brunswick that lets residents of that province bet as much as $100 on a single spin of computerized slot machines and $500 on a hand of blackjack. The government of Prince Edward Island gave cabinet approval to a provincial version of the ALCs online casino in late December.

Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador are still pondering the idea.

The argument doesnt seem to be about money, but safety. Apparently, while money is flowing out of the Atlantic provinces, the real government concern is not the money at all, but the safety of offshore gambling sites.

P.E.I.s Finance Department said in a statement that it wanted residents to be able to play in a safe and regulated environment.

But the casino would be as close as your home office or kitchen during the long-running depression of a pandemic. It does not sound like a match made in heaven.

An official with the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation used similar language: Nova Scotia Gaming Corporations priority is to run a safe and responsible industry that operates in the best interest of all Nova Scotians.

The ALC is also decidedly on message, pointing to an ALC-run online casino as a safe, regulated alternative to other websites.

This is, of course, the same logic that brought pernicious video lottery terminals to the region. The responsible leadership of the ALC was needed to oust illegal grey-market VLTs that were already operating somewhere. Rather than charging the illegal operators and seizing the illegal machines, it was apparently better to run the syndicate ourselves.

Thats certainly worked out well anyone who covers courts knows how often gambling addictions to oh-so-legal ALC video lottery terminals turn up in fraud and embezzlement cases.

Putting the ALC stamp of approval on online casino gambling will certainly keep money in the region that might otherwise go to offshore sites. There are also arguments to be made about personal responsibility its a choice to gamble, online or otherwise.

But the casino would be as close as your home office or kitchen during the long-running depression of a pandemic. It does not sound like a match made in heaven.

The other thing to keep in mind? The fact that patrons can get in as deep as their credit cards will let them.

As Elizabeth Stephen, a registered counselling therapist specializing in gambling addiction, pointed out to Saltwire Network, They are going to introduce online gambling slots and VLTs to a whole new number of people that would never go into a bar or a casino to play.

Its an idea provincial governments should think carefully about.

But as we said at the top of this editorial, money talks.

Gambling: Three player props to consider betting on in the NFL divisional round of the playoffs – Colorado Springs Gazette

Posted: at 9:59 am

Every week through the Super Bowl, I will attempt, using tools and stats from FTNBets.com, to slay the sportsbooks, scribbling my favorite side, total or prop picks for the weeks upcoming NFL slate. Some will win. Many will lose. Fade or follow? That, of course, is up to you. With the Divisional Round on tap this weekend, here are three picks worth diving into:

Prop 1: Cam Akers

OVER 16.5 rush attempts (-125, DraftKings)

After stints with Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown as his primary rushers, It only took Sean McVay approximately one full millennium to realize the rookie running back is good at what he was drafted to do, carry the football. As displayed occasionally before the playoffs, the youngster was a three-down monster last week against the Seahawks. He exhibited spectacular open-field burst, cutback skills, break-tackle brawn (3.46 YAC/att.) and soft hands in a 30-touch, 176-total-yard thrashing of Seattle. Including that intoxicating effort, hes received ball-to-belly at least 21 times in five of his last six contests. The increased snap and opportunity shares combined with the Rams unyielding defense and Jared Goffs tender thumb arrow to another rigorous workload. Green Bay tightened the trench screws down the regular seasons homestretch, but it still surrendered 4.37 yards per carry and 91.6 rush yards per game to RBs. Assuming Jalen Ramsey and his L.A. cohorts prevent Aaron Rodgers from dissecting them, Akers will reach the 20 rush attempts mark.

Prop 2: Lamar Jackson

OVER 75.5 rush yards (-110, BetMGM)

Attempting to chase down Jackson is akin to sprinting after Usain Bolt behind the wheel of Ferrari 812 Superfast GTS, a woefully futile exercise. Once he sees a crease, hes gone. Jackson has sprinted past the proposed threshold in five of his last six contests, often obliterating the number. In a game with a 50.5 total, he should add more napalm to the hot streak. The Bills performed only adequately against dual-threat QBs during the regular season. Ryan Tannehill, Patrick Mahomes, Cam Newton, Kyler Murray and, heck, even Drew Lock rushed for at least 36 yards against them. Though the Dachshund of the Desert is a step below Lamar, hes not on the same plane. Action Jackson shuttles his way to at least 80 yards. Oh, and if youre into same-game parlays, matching Lamars rush yards prop with an anytime TD (+105) is a likely profitable exercise.

Prop 3: Mike Evans

UNDER 4.5 receptions (+100, DraftKings)

Based on their prior pugilistic engagements, Evans and Marshon Lattimore arent frolicking on a Caribbean beach hand-in-hand anytime soon. Its a full-blown rivalry, one in which the Saint have won fairly handily. In their past four encounters, Evans failed to haul in five passes each time. Theres no questioning the receivers toughness. He tweaked his knee in Week 17 only to return six days later, catching six-of-10 targeted passes for 119 yards in Washington. Still, hes not quite 100%. Evidenced by his 101.6 passer rating and 1.24 yards per snap allowed on the season, Lattimore is an unsteady contributor. He, however, typically rises to the occasion in high-leverage contests and has given up just a 58.3% catch percentage in 15 games. His big-stage, big-game mentality matched with his ownership of Evans suggests the DBs smack talk will be backed.

Arizona governor building momentum in the state for legalization of gambling – The Indian Wire

Posted: at 9:59 am

Arizona is struggling in the midst of the pandemic to maintain its budget and cover the losses done during COVID-19.

For generating the revenue, Arizona Governor is trying to build the momentum in the state for legalization of the sports betting. Governor Doug Ducey has started the debate for the setting up of in-state sportsbooks shop.

The Governor believes that the state could benefit from sports gambling. However, this is not the first attempt to legalize gambling in the state because in previous years the effort could not yield positive results.

The key problem is the laws in Arizona prohibit sports gambling and this position would have to reversed before any progress can be made. For doing so, Gov. Ducey presented a letter to the Arizona Legislature this week explaining the ground work that needs to be done to legalize gambling.

As per CalvinAyre.com, the press aide of the governor stated that: Our goal is to bring Arizona gaming into the 21st century.A lot has changed since the first compacts were signed, back when cell phones werent the thing they are now.The world looks a lot different today and our proposal is intended to reflect the way people live their lives today.
