Painting with Ash for the Community
It #39;s not perfectly put together yet, but I thought, what the hell, why not show it.... Trying to tie together each and every pole of the community with the theme of liberty! Kind of a silly thing...From:WallEyeFlyViews:0 0ratingsTime:02:01More inPeople Blogs

Dennis Watterson teaching his Burris Elementary kids about local Mitchell history – Video

Dennis Watterson teaching his Burris Elementary kids about local Mitchell history
This is my old man giving an important history lesson to his 1993 fifth grade class from Burris Elementary in Mitchell, Indiana. This is a black cemetery nestled in the hills of Lawrence County, Indiana, Spice Valley Township, west of Liberty Baptist Church Road. The location is close to the farm, and also close to an old pioneer road near the Indian boundary line that William Henry Harrison established. My take on these folks? They were comfortable where they were. Most blacks of the time were going north to where there was industrialization. These folks didn #39;t. They even had the freedom to bury their dead in their own cemetery. And they probably had help from the "white" folks in the area. Frederick Douglass returned from his visit to Ireland with a new-found kinship of oppressed peoples. With the number of Irish in parts of southern Indiana at the time, I think these folks found kinship also. But I believe the human spirit is not inclined toward hatred. So maybe I #39;m a sucker. The underlying point is... What the hell is "white" anyway? Do you feel white? Do I? History lesson from Dad, and me. And commentary from Fred. Let no one deceive you – Video

Let no one deceive you
Fatherlessness is a "rot that is eating away at the modern soul," writes Douglas Wilson, and the problem goes far beyond physical absence. "Most of our families are starving for fathers, even if Dad is around, and there #39;s a huge cost to our children and our society because of it." Father Hunger takes a thoughtful, timely, richly engaging excursion into our cultural chasm of absentee fatherhood. Blending leading-edge research with incisive analysis and real-life examples, Wilson: Traces a range of societal ills #8213;from poverty and crime to joyless feminism and paternalistic government expansion #8213;to a vacuum of mature masculinity Explains the key differences between asserting paternal authority and reestablishing true spiritual fathering Uncovers the corporate-fulfillment fallacy and other mistaken assumptions that undermine fatherhood Extols the benefits of restoring fruitful fathering, from stronger marriages to greater economic liberty Filled with practical ideas and self-evaluation tools, Father Hunger both encourages and challenges men to "embrace the high calling of fatherhood,"From:Ronnie RoqueViews:2 0ratingsTime:09:53More inPeople Blogs

Chase Freedom Lifestyle Index Points to a Steady Increase in Consumer Spending

Posted: October 26, 2012 at 9:31 pm

WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Chase today released the third quarter (Q3) 2012 findings of the Chase Freedom Lifestyle Index, a quarterly barometer of consumer trends based on aggregated Chase Freedom cardholder spending data. According to the Chase Freedom Lifestyle Index, overall cardholder spending increased 4 percent in Q3 of 2012, compared to the same quarter in 2011. Spending was strong across the majority of categories, with solid increases in food, back-to-school, and outdoor/leisure expenditures.

Consumers are slowly beginning to open their wallets, based on the steady increases in spending we are witnessing, said Phil Christian, general manager, Chase Freedom. The overall trends suggest that consumers are increasing discretionary entertainment and leisure spending on a year-over-year basis, which is a good sign from an economic recovery perspective. As we enter into the holiday season, we believe the current spending trends point to what is likely to be a strong holiday shopping season in the fourth quarter.

On a quarter-over-quarter basis, overall spending went up by 1 percent in Q3 2012, following a sharp increase (9 percent) from Q1 to Q2, underscoring a continued upward trend since Q2 2012.

Back-to-school shopping

Chase Freedom Lifestyle Index data pointed to a healthy back-to-school shopping season, with combined spending on apparel/clothing, books, and museums increasing 6 percent in Q3 2012, compared to the same quarter in 2011.

Eating out

Chase Freedom cardholders spent 22 percent more in fast food in Q3 2012, compared to Q3 2011. Restaurant spending was nearly as strong, with a 19 percent year-over-year increase.

Outdoors, sports, and entertainment

Spending on outdoor and leisure activities recorded an overall 8 percent increase, with Chase Freedom cardholders spending 8 and 9 percent more at recreational facilities and on sporting goods, respectively, in Q3 2012, compared to the same quarter in 2011.
