Freedom's Fairchild enjoying expanded role at QB
Posted: at 12:50 am

Freedom's David Burgess (3) and Khris Gardin (7) celebrate in the end zone after a Gardin touchdown last Friday. The two players have taken pressure off first-year starting quarterback Shawn Fairchild, who's growing into a playmaker in his own right.
Shawn Fairchild was a starting linebacker last year on one of Freedoms best football teams. But he always envisioned a bit more for himself.
I did still enjoy playing linebacker, Fairchild said, but I wish I could have played both (linebacker and quarterback). You just do what you can to help the team thats been my approach.
Fairchild had played quarterback on several Oak Hill youth football teams but only saw time at the position in fifth-quarter action at the middle school level and on Freedoms JV squad as a sophomore since then. So when he was tabbed as the replacement for Burke County passing record holder Michael Helms just before this season, he faced a tough act to follow.
There was some pressure there, he admitted, but you kind of get used to it. (Michael) was a good example. He did a lot of good things here.
I remember in the South Caldwell game (to open the season) at halftime, I was freaking out. I wasnt confident. I was hoping David (Burgess) would score a million times so we could walk on out with a win.
Patriots fourth-year coach Mike Helms said the quarterback position was his biggest area of concern heading into the fall.
It was our biggest question mark, Helms said. I knew it would be difficult to find someone to keep us going at a high level.
Fairchild experienced the learning curve over the first six weeks of the season. He completed fewer than half of his pass attempts (32 of 71) for 456 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions, playing second fiddle to Burgess and the ground attack.

Freedom Township tax levy fails by 1 vote
Posted: at 12:50 am
FREEDOM TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Freedom Township levy was voted down Tuesday by one vote. After 1,417 votes were tallied, 708 were in favor and 709 were against.
Freedom Township, which includes the Village of Pemberville placed a one mill, three year property tax levy on the ballot.
The money would have gone for maintenance on roads and buildings as well as purchasing additional property.
The levy would have generated roughly $59,000 annually.
Some resident were not even aware of the levy until they reached the polls.
"I personally am for anything that has to do with our town and Freedom Township so it was alright with me but I just don't think it was publicized enough or people even understood what it was all about," said Kathy Cook who voted yes.
"Had I known a little bit more about it I may have voted yes, but I needed more information before I voted yes. The first time I heard of it was when I got to the ballots and started voting and it was the last thing I had to vote on," said Kim Tussing who voted no.
The vote is not official for another 21 days. The Wood County Board of Elections said roughly 43 provisional ballots have yet to be factored in so the levy could swing back into the 'yes' column.

Freedom Irish Find Inspiration
Posted: at 12:50 am
By Dave Schroeder
The Freedom High School football team is making an unprecedented playoff push. The Irish never made it out of Level 2 until this year.
Freedom's football history is pretty bland. There are no state championships to speak of. In fact, just 3 years ago, the Irish went 0-9.
"My first year here helping out we went '0' for the season. That's tough. That happened, so there's not a whole lot of expectations," head coach Clint Kriewaldt said.
Kriewaldt, who made the opening tackle in Super Bowl 40, is in his first year as head coach at Freedom.
With no outside expectations, he has guided the Irish within one win of reaching the State championship game.
"You know, back in Pittsburgh when we won it we were the #6 seed. No one gave us credit. We had to go on the road and went on to win the Super Bowl. Coming in here we were the #8 seed, no one gave us a lot of credit; no one gave the Steelers credit that year."
Inspired by their new coach, the Irish have run free.
Senior running back Nathan Peters has rushed for 2,000 yards this season, and more than 200 yards in each of the last two games.
"It's the best offensive line I've ran behind. It's great. The holes are there, and I just have to run through them," Peters said.

Guardians of Freedom and Hand Knitters: National WWII Museum Marks Veterans Day with Weekend of Observance and …
Posted: at 12:50 am
NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --The National WWII Museum in New Orleans is commemorating Veterans Day with a weekend filled with events honoring veterans of all eras who have secured America's freedom. Events will begin on Saturday, November 10, 2012 and will conclude Sunday, November 11, 2012. Special ceremonies, a symbolic artifact donation and a salute to Louisiana's Bicentennial Military Parade, which will pass in front of the Museum, are all part of the celebration. The public is invited to attend and all US military veterans will receive free admission to the Museum throughout the weekend.
Saturday begins with a knit-in at 11:00 a.m. Area knitters and crochet enthusiasts will make and distribute scarves to veterans. The effort is part of Knit Your Bit, a national grassroots program launched by the Museum to produce hand-knit scarves for veterans as a show of appreciation for their service. Since the program's inception in 2006, the Museum has received more than 20,000 scarves.
At noon, Orlin Corey's Voices: A Spoken Word Tribute to Veterans presentation will begin and at 1:30 p.m. the Navy Band of New Orleans will perform. The 34 musician sailors, who are committed to bolstering the patriotic spirit of the American people, will welcome the arrival of active duty military and veterans with their music.
At 2:30 p.m. the United States Naval Academy Women's Glee Club will perform and at 3:00 p.m. the Museum will honor the US Armed Forces with a "Celebration of Heroes" ceremony. All veterans will be seated in honor sections by branch of service, along with invited active duty military. The ceremony will feature participation by civil dignitaries, military leaders and Museum officials.
"The most valuable gift Americans possess today is their freedom," said Dr. Gordon H. "Nick" Mueller, president and chief executive officer of The National WWII Museum. "And that freedom is the direct result of the tireless efforts of the men and women who served and continue to serve in the US Armed Forces. It is our duty as Americans, particularly on Veterans Day, to honor these individuals and to express our gratitude for their invaluable service."
Following the ceremony, the Louisiana Bicentennial Military Parade will pass in front of the Museum. The dog tag of Louisiana WWII veteran John Mack, discovered in Normandy, France, will be carried in the parade and will be donated to the Museum's artifact collection. The public is invited to view the parade from the Museum.
Veterans Day commemorations continue on Sunday. At 10:30 a.m. the Navy Band New Orleans will perform and at 11:00 a.m., the Museum will hold a traditional Moment of Silence.
To round out the Veterans Day commemorations, the Museum's own Victory Belles, joined by WWII veterans, will make a television appearance singing the national anthem during the Saints vs. Falcons game at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Kickoff is at noon.
A National WWII Museum-led social media campaign, "Thank You for My Freedom," also aims to garner 1 million thanks for US military veterans, from those who served during the WWII era to the current day. At http://www.myveteransday.org, users can post videos, photos and messages or text THANKS to 51555 expressing appreciation to all who have served in the armed forces.
Originally commemorated as Armistice Day after the First World War, Veterans Day was signed into law on June 1, 1954. Traditionally, Veterans Day is observed with a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and community events across the nation. Veterans Day officially honors living veterans of wartime and peacetime, but is often confused with Memorial Day, which exists to honor those who died serving our country.

Freedom RV Rentals Celebrates 10th Anniversary; Provides RVs for PSU Tailgating
Posted: at 12:50 am
Central Pennsylvania RV rental company Freedom RV Rentals celebrates 10 years of providing superior customer service in the rental business in 2012. Freedom continues to provide recreational vehicles during the off-season so customers can enjoy late fall activities such as Penn State tailgating.
Altoona, PA (PRWEB) November 08, 2012
Freedoms 10th Anniversary
Located in East Freedom, Pennsylvania, Freedom RV Rentals has been providing the central Pennsylvania area with camper, travel trailer, and motorhome rentals for the past 10 years. The locally owned and operated company began in 2002 as a way to supply recreational vehicle rentals to the central part of the state, which previously had no such RV rental agencies.
Before starting the company, owner Tom Schneider noticed this void while trying to rent an RV for an upcoming family vacation, causing him to rent from a much more distant location. Of his family vacation, Schneider said, After having had such a wonderful time traveling in an RV, we wanted to make RV rentals available for other families in the central PA area.
In addition to supplying the central part of the state with these recreational vehicles, Freedom also strives to provide outstanding customer service. The company works hard to give its clients a worry-free, relaxing, and accommodating experience on board its clean, reliable motor homes, campers, and travel trailers. Freedom has put the consumer first for ten years by offering affordable rates during the peak rental season as well as in the off-season.
Off-Season Rentals for Penn State Tailgating
Freedom continues to provide customers with reasonably priced rates during the off-season, from the months of October through May. During the beginning of the off-season, in late fall, numerous clients rent RVs from Freedom in order to tailgate at their favorite football games. Freedom is a short drive away from professional and college football games in the big cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, as well as Pennsylvania State University football games in University Park, Pennsylvania.
The Penn State football team has a 6-3 record this season. With two home games remaining, Penn State fans can still rent RVs for tailgating at the upcoming Big Ten Conference games at the end of November. Those interested can visit http://www.freedomrentals.com to see Freedoms rental availabilities for the Penn State home games versus Indiana University and University of Wisconsin.
