Coast to Coast AM is a North American (US and Canada) late-night radio talk show that deals with a variety of topics, but most frequently ones that relate to either the paranormal or conspiracy theories. Police have arrested a young man after a picture of a burning poppy was posted on Facebook.

The man, named locally as Linney House, 19, was arrested on Remembrance Sunday after the image of a Royal British Legion paper poppy being held to a cigarette lighter was posted online.

Underneath was written: 'How about that you squadey (sic) c****.'

Kent police confirmed that a 19-year-old man, from Aylesham, Kent, was arrested on suspicion of 'malicious telecommunications' on Sunday and remains in custody.

Police said they were contacted at 4pm on Sunday just hours after an Armistice Day service was held in the suspect's village.

The picture was spotted online before a number of calls were made to police.

Despite their partisan differences, the Conservatives, Liberals and NDP all seem to agree on one thing: free political speech is bad and should therefore be limited, regulated and strictly curtailed.

Indeed, three MPs Conservative John Baird, New Democrat Pat Martin and Liberal John McKay recently defended the need to squelch free expression.

Mind you, they didnt exactly put it that way.

Rather, they all concurred that Canadian democracy was better than the American variety because our election laws severely restrict the ability of Canadians to spend their own money for the purpose of expressing their own opinions.

For instance, Canada has an election gag law.

Enacted by the Liberals in 2000, this law makes it illegal for third party groups meaning any organization thats not a political party to spend more than about $150,000 on national political ad campaigns during federal elections.

For their part, the Conservatives passed a law that stops citizens from contributing more than a $1,200 annually to a political party or leadership candidate. (And, yes, contributing money to a political party is an exercise in political expression.)

At any rate, Mr. Baird, Mr. Martin and Mr. Mackay, all believe these laws make Canada superior to the United States, which has relatively fewer infringements on free political expression.

Yet, I suspect these MPs have not really thought through their opinions.

The Egyptian-born Coptic Christian, known by several aliases but publicly identified as Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, admitted to several probation violations relating to his 2010 fraud conviction including using fake names. But some are saying the government was breaching his first amendment rights to free speech, using the probation violations as an excuse to prosecute him for the YouTube clip. A father of one of the men killed in the attack on the Benghazi consulate has claimed Hillary Clinton told him the US would "make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted." Even Nakoula #39;s defense lawyer Steve Seiden felt the government used the process to violate his client #39;s rights. The clip "The Innocence of Muslims", which depicted the Prophet Mohammed as a sexual deviant and a fool, caused a global furor in the Muslim world leading to at least 65 deaths and countless anti-US protests.
