Martyn Ford Reveals Food & Supplements of 10000 Calorie Diet for … – Fitness Volt

Posted: June 20, 2023 at 8:44 pm

British bodybuilder Martyn Ford transformed himself into one of the freakiest mass monsters in the world. Having started relatively frail for his size, he spent years working hard in the training room to achieve his present physique. In a recent interview with Escape Fitness, Ford revealed the food sources he likes to consume when on a diet and when hes eating 10,000 calories to bulk up at 360 pounds.

Social media fitness influencer Martyn Ford grew up playing professional cricket before finding his passion for bodybuilding. He rose to prominence for his humongous physique with unreal muscle mass, size, and overall muscularity. Standing at 6 ft 8 inches, Fords extreme package amassed him a huge following of 4.5 million on Instagram and earned him the opportunity to get on the silver screen. He made headlines for his antagonistic role in his acting debut in the film Boyka: Undisputed (2016) alongside fellow Brit Scott Adkins.

Ford sparked a heated rivalry with internet sensation Sajad Gharibi, popularly known as the Iranian Hulk over the last two years. The pair traded verbal jabs online and were scheduled to settle their differences in a boxing match in April 2022. During the build-up to the outing, Ford shoved Gharibi to the ground with ease after the latter failed his attempt in a face-off. Gharibi later opened up about his mental health challenges that stemmed from the fact he got disowned by his family due to the incident.

Given Gharibis admission to suicidal thoughts, the organizers pulled the plug on the bout and Ford added the discrepancy between Gharibis online image and real-life factored in as well. Nevertheless, Ford pulled off an incredible body transformation, losing nearly 60 pounds in preparations for the scrapped contest.

Martyn Ford continued to train boxing and left the fans stunned with an insanely jacked physique update following the cancelation. Despite calls from Gharibi to proceed with the match, Ford decided against it as he was concerned about his opponents mental health in case the outcome would not be in his favor.

The Nightmare began training in MMA in hopes of competing under the Polish MMA promotion KSW in May 2022. He showed off his giant physique in a workout update a month later. He was even eyeing a boxing fight with legendary strongman Hafthor Bjornsson but faced issues in making the showdown come to fruition.

In a recent YouTube video, Martyn Ford revealed his preferred food sources to fit into his diet, which can go up to 10,000 calories to add muscle to his 360-pound frame.

My appetite is ridiculous and Im very carb-sensitive so like sweet potato, oats, rice. I could do three or four thousand calories in a meal easily if I am not careful, said Ford.

A typical not training for anything day would be oats and eggs for breakfast, rice cakes, cottage cheese, fruit, Greek yogurt snacks, nuts, snacks, and then sweet potato, salmon, steak, rice, potato chips but made myslef in the oven. Just generally that kind of food is where Im staying at. About eight meals a day easily. When Im growing I can easily go up to eight meals a day, Ill wake up starving and eat twice in the night.

Im still doing 4,500 calories dieting so its nice because its normal whereas when Im bulking, if I want to put some size on, Im up to eight, nine, 10,000 calories, which is hard work when its good food.

Ford listed the staple supplements he likes to utilize in addition to whole food.

The big ones that Id always lean on to will be glutamines, creatines, aminos, if Im bulking Ill have a carb drink intra, post, and then isolate whey. But again, only after workout I would never replace food if I dont need to with a protein shake. [Greens supplement] as well.

Martyn Ford opened up on using steroids to achieve fitness goals in July 2022. While he believed there were benefits that can be derived from taking gear, he argued there was a major downside as well if one used substances from the black market and without proper research. Then, he teamed up with former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping for a brutal chest workout last September.

Ford showed off his monstrous package while crushing an intense training session last month.

Its fascinating to get insight into the diet and supplementation of the man who boasts one of the craziest physiques in the world. His latest offering could benefit others who may be on a similar path to get some gains.

Federica Muggenburg, NHC, HHC, AADP, integrative chef & nutritional/hormone health coach

"Sometimes it feels like your metabolism is working against you (because it literally is). As a neuroscientist, I'm fascinated by the physiological underpinnings of metabolic efficiency. One of the most overlooked factors is hormone balance. I'm talking about neuroendocrine hormones like serotonin that are critical for appetite regulation, as well as leptin and adiponectinhormones involved in our ability to burn fat and balance blood sugar levels. All five botanical ingredients in metabolism+ excite me, but veld grape is especially noteworthy, as it's been shown in clinical research to directly support appetite hormone, energy, and blood sugar balance."*

Milene Brownlow, Ph.D., neuroscientist & cognitive health scientist

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications, consult with your doctor before starting a supplement routine. It is always optimal to consult with a health care provider when considering what supplements are right for you.

Ric Flair Reveals Diet, Training & Supplements to Stay Jacked at 74 … – Fitness Volt

Posted: at 8:44 pm

Ric Flair has been a mainstay of professional wrestling for decades and has a legacy spanning generations. Although he no longer competes regularly, his impact is palpable to this day. In a recent Mens Health video, Flair revealed the diet, training, and supplements he takes to stay jacked in his 70s.

Ric Flair is widely considered to be one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. Having started his pro career in 1972, Flair enjoyed a highly decorated tenure of over 50 years. He made his debut under the AWA (American Wrestling Association), where he got to compete with fellow legends like Dusty Rhodes, Andre the Giant, and Chris Taylor. He won his first championship in a tag team match after joining Jim Crockett Promotions in the National Wrestling Alliance in 1974.

In 1981, Flairs celebrity status skyrocketed largely due to his brash persona and heel character. He attacked many of the promotions fan favorites with his infamous team called The Four Horsemen. He spent about a decade performing at shows in All Japan Pro Wrestling during his stint in the organization as well.

Flair made his way to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1991. He secured the WWF Championship by coming out on top of the 1992 Royal Rumble. After two years under the banner, Flair made a comeback to the WCW. He later claimed the World Heavyweight and International World Heavyweight Championships.

Following his return to the WWF/WWE in 2001, Flair delivered some action-packed performances against the likes of The Undertaker, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Eddie Guerrero, Triple H, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. He experienced a late-career resurgence in 2012 and has since performed sporadically in the wrestling ring with his final outing happening in July 2022.

In June 2017, Ric Flair made headlines for a horrific hand injury as a result of a brawl with a Dub-Nation member following the Cleveland Cavs loss in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

Flair picked up a string of injuries from his days of performing in the ring. He needed to undergo surgery after getting admitted to the intensive care unit in Aug. 2017. Given his contributions to the sport, messages of support poured in from members of the community.

The Nature Boy got rushed to the hospital after a major health scare in May 2019. His son-in-law later revealed the situation wasnt as concerning as it had first been reported. Flair issued an optimistic statement to his fans a week later.

In a recent YouTube video, Ric Flair revealed the diet and supplements he utilizes to stay jacked at the age of 74.

He started off by showing the items in his fridge and then laid out his daily food intake.

Lean beef, chicken, a lot of fresh fruit, salads, prepared salads, all very healthy. I do drink a lot of water.

Mushroom food is the hottest thing in the world.

Favorite meat: Salmon

He laid out how his eating habits have changed over the years and how he stays on track while traveling.

When I was wrestling everyday I could eat anything I wanted because I was wrestling up to an hour every night, said Flair. I used to live by the rule for every pound of body weight you want to have a gram of protein. Thats hard to do. Youd have to eat 20 chicken breasts, two dozen raw eggs a day in the blender. I ate a lot more carbs than I do now. I dont eat much bread unless its wheat bread. I love pasta but I eat very little pasta and the result of my surgeries I gotta go watch what I eat spicy food will kill me.

Its hard [traveling] especially with airline food but most hotels are there will have chicken stuff like that. A lot of sauce on my food to this point it can be generically healthy but I have to have a sauce on it. My go to sauce is barbecue. My go to comfort food is marinara sauce, tons of meatballs, and angel hair pasta.

[I hate] pastry. I dont eat desserts, never have.

Ric Flair shared the supplements he takes along with testosterone, presumably TRT (testosterone replacement therapy).

Vitamin B12, I take tri aminos, and 1 cc of test a week. 400 is normal for a guy my age I keep it at a thousand.

Ric Flair gave fans a look into his training protocol and health goals.

I train three to four days a week and if Im training hard I do 500 free squats, try to do 200 push-ups, sets of 100 crunches, and the airdyne bike which I think is one of the most difficult pieces of cardio equipment, 5,000 meters in 10 minutes.

Just stay in the best shape I can possibly be and to stay motivated. My goal right now is I want to do 10,000 meters on [the airdyne bike] and I want to bench press 225 by Feb. 25th, 24. I want to make sure that as each year goes by that I can do what I did when I was 23.

My last match live I got in kind of shape, in better shape than Ive ever been in my life 500 free squats, running, pushing the sled, pulling, working on strengthening my neck, insane cardio stuff.

For me it was a religion. If I didnt workout I didnt feel good. I did 500 free squats everyday, 250 push-ups every day. I would do sets between everything I did when I was doing benches, inclines, pulldowns.

I dont lift heavy weights anymore because I grow out of my clothes and Im taking supplements that people might take normally. If I lift weights heavy I grow. I try to keep my weight at 220 or under.

I hate running. Id rather beat my brains out for 20 minutes than play around for 30.As you get older, you have to get your second win no matter how much you warm up until you get your second wind you got to see your way through it.

Ric Flair left the fans stunned with a workout update showing off his impressive physique in June 2022. He crushed an intense training session in preparation for his planned final outing in the ring.

Flair opened up on his experience of surviving a deadly plane crash two months ago. The accident resulted in his back being broken in three places and the death of a passenger onboard. Despite being told hed never wrestle again, he persevered and continued to follow his passion.

His latest offering provides insight into how a wrestling legend keeps fit in his later years and will certainly inspire fans to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Fat-Soluble Vitamins: What They Are and How To Get the Most Out of Them – Health Essentials

Posted: at 1:06 am

Share

When it comes to vitamins, there are two big camps: The fat-soluble types and the water-soluble varieties.

To keep your body functioning at its best, you need adequate amounts of both.

And when it comes to fat-soluble vitamins, there are some tips and tricks you should consider to ensure youre getting the most from your daily intake.

The fat-soluble vitamins areA, D, E and K. They tend to come from animal and dairy products but can also be found in some fruits and vegetables. And theyre important for several functions in your body, including your vision, bone health, immunity and blood clotting.

We talked with family physician Matthew Goldman, MD, about each of these fat-soluble vitaminsand how to get the most out of these important nutrients.

There are four fat-soluble vitamins:

Dr. Goldman breaks each down, including what they do, how much you need and where to find them.

Vitamin A is most closely associated with your vision. It also plays a big role in keeping your skin and hair healthy and boosting your immunity.

How much you should get

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends a daily value of 900 micrograms (mcg) of vitamin A for adults and childrenaged 4 and older.

Vitamin A foods

Your body doesnt naturally create vitamin A. It only comes from the foods you eat. Vitamin A is found in animal products, as well as some fruits andvegetables, particularly orange ones.

Known as the sunshine vitamin, your body creates vitamin D from exposure to sunlight. Its found naturally in very few foods.

Vitamin D is important for bone and muscle health and can help protect you from osteoporosis. It also supports your immune system and promotes brain health.

How much you should get

The FDA recommends a daily value of 15 mcg of vitamin Dfor adults and childrenage 1and older.

Babies under 1-year-old need about 10 micrograms of vitamin D per day. Vitamin D doesnt get passed in breastmilk, so babies who are breastfed/chestfed should get a daily vitamin D supplement. Formula-fed babies also need vitamin D supplements for their first several months of life, until they drink at least 32 ounces of vitamin D-fortified formula per day. Your childs pediatrician can best advise you on your babys nutritional needs.

Vitamin D foods

You get most of your vitamin D through exposure to sunlight, rather than food. Its not found in many foods naturally. But some packaged foods may be fortified with vitamin D.

Vitamin D deficiencies are common. And vitamin D supplements can be beneficial for a lot of people, particularly people who have limited exposure to sunlight and people with darker skin. Well talk more about vitamin D deficiencies in a bit.

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. That means it helps fight off the free radicals that lead to aging and chronic disease. Youll often see vitamin E as an ingredient in skin care products, particularly products marketed as anti-aging or softening.

As part of your diet, research on vitamin E is ongoing. But theres evidence to show that vitamin E may provide some protection from heart disease, cancer, eye disorders and cognitive decline.

How much you should get

The FDA recommends a daily value of 15 milligrams (mg) of vitaminE for adults and children 4 and older.

Vitamin E foods

Many nuts and oils are natural sources of vitamin E. Some packaged foods may also be fortified with vitamin E.

Vitamin K helps build strong bones, regulates blood clotting and keeps your blood pressure in check.

How much you should get

The FDA recommends a daily value of 120 mcg of vitamin Kfor adults and childrenage 4 and older.

People who are taking a blood thinning medication, such as warfarin (Coumadin), should talk with a healthcare provider about their recommended vitamin K intake. Thats because large quantities of vitamin K can raise the risk of blood clots for people on those medications.

Vitamin Kfoods

There are two types of vitamin K: vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. They do similar things for your body, but come from different food sources.

Vitamin K1 is typically associated with leafy greens and other veggies. Vitamin K2 is mostly found in dairy and animal products.

These foods are high in vitamin K:

As fat-soluble vitamins, vitamins A, D, E and Kdissolve in fat and oils.

That means the fat-soluble vitamins in the foods you eat get absorbed by the fats you eat. Its fat that allows them to get into yourbloodstream, circulate all over your body and keep you in tip-top shape.

Fat-soluble vitamins are best absorbed when eaten with healthy fats, Dr. Goldman explains.

That means that along with your vitamin-rich foods, youll get the most nutritional bang for your buck if you layer on a bit of healthy fat, too. That can be foods like avocados, olive oil, seeds, nuts and vegetable oil.

But you probably dont need to think about it too hard if youre already eating a relatively well-balanced diet.

If youre eating a variety of whole foods, youll most likely get enough healthy fats in your diet to absorb these vitamins, Dr. Goldman notes.

If youre relying on supplements to get your fill of fat-soluble vitamins, take them along with a healthy snack or meal.

Unlike water-soluble vitamins, which are quickly passed through your body and excreted in your urine, your body stores up fat-soluble vitamins like a rainy-day fund.

Fat-soluble vitamins are stored in your bodys fatty tissue and in your liver for a long time, Dr. Goldman explains.

Because your body holds on to fat-soluble vitamins, most people who have adequate access to nutritious foods get plenty of vitamins A, E and K in their diets without trying too hard.

Vitamin D deficiencies, on the other hand, are pretty common. Thats because vitamin D isnt readily found in a lot of foods, and many people dont get enough sunlight for their bodies to make sufficient amounts of vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency has even been called an ignored epidemic. More than a billion people across the globe have vitamin D deficiency.

But theres another side to it. Because fat-soluble vitamins stick around in your body, its possible to get too much of a good thing.

Its possible for fat-soluble vitamins to become toxic in excess. So, its important not to exceed the recommended daily dose, Dr. Goldman warns. Generally, its best to get fat-soluble vitamins from food sources rather than supplements, unless a healthcare provider has specifically recommended supplements for you.

In other words, youre probably not going to get excessive or dangerous amounts of vitamins A, D, E and K from your diet. But if youre taking supplements, too, youll want to be careful about going overboard.

If you have questions about whether youre getting the right amount of fat-soluble vitamins in your diet, be sure to talk with a healthcare provider.

9 Anti-Inflammatory Supplements Backed By Science Forbes Health – Forbes

Posted: at 1:06 am

There are many dietary or lifestyle changes that could be helpful for reducing inflammation, including dietary supplements. Here are nine expert-recommended anti-inflammatory supplements, backed by science.

Turmeric contains many different active cucurminoids, with curcumin being one of the more well studied natural anti-inflammatories, notes Kelsey Kunik, RDN and nutrition advisor for Zenmaster Wellness based in Michigan.

[Curcumin] reduces the number of inflammatory mediators in the body as well as the number of reactive oxygen species, which are responsible for oxidative stress, she explains.

Curcumin has been largely studied for the condition of arthritis. Several clinical trials have found that curcumin is helpful in decreasing pain and inflammation in people with arthritis symptoms, notes Kunik. For instance, a 2021 review on turmerics effect on individuals with knee arthritis found that when compared to a placebo, turmeric did seem to positively affect both pain and function, with some studies showing its effects similar to that of NSAIDs.

Still, additional research is still needed to fully understand the extent of benefit for many types of health conditions, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

Ginger is an anti-inflammatory spice that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, explains Samantha Cassetty, a New York City-based registered dietitian and co-author of Sugar Shock.

Scientists believe that there are compounds in ginger which can turn off genes that promote inflammation. This makes ginger useful for inflammatory-related conditions, say experts.

Ginger may act on the same biochemical pathways as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) like Ibuprofen, which could explain why it has been shown to reduce pain and inflammation in people with osteoarthritis, says Cassetty.

The active compound in fish oil linked with an anti-inflammatory effect is omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are found naturally in high amounts in oily fish like salmon or sardines. Theyre also found in supplements derived from fish fats, explains Cassetty. Omega-3 fatty acids from fish can play an essential role in an anti-inflammatory eating pattern.

One way that fish oil may help reduce inflammation is by increasing anti-inflammatory mediators that help regulate inflammation, adds Cassetty.

A review of 73 studies published in International Immunopharmacology found that adults who take an omega-3 fatty acid supplement, including fish oil, improved markers of inflammation in various health conditions such as cancer, kidney diseases and diabetes. Additionally, omega-3 supplementation has shown promise when it comes to brain health, particularly when it comes to memory, cognition, and blood flow to the brain. However the exact dose and duration of time needed to see consistent benefit requires further research.

N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is a compound made from one of the building blocks of protein, known as the amino acid L-cysteine, that is suggested to have antioxidant functions.

One of NACs primary roles in the body is to act as a precursor to glutathione. Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that is known to combat oxidative stress, explains Elise Quinlan, a registered dietitian and owner of Eat With Elise based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

When glutathione is depleted, researchers believe the body might be more susceptible to chronic inflammation and disease progression. While it is unclear if there are additional benefits in taking NAC and glutathione together, supplementing with at least one may have anti-inflammatory effects, notes Quinlan.

Bromelain is an enzyme naturally found in the fruit and stems of pineapple, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.

Though bromelain is thought to have a vast range of health benefits, including helping with inflammation and pain, all the mechanisms of actions are not fully understood, according to Sue-Ellen Anderson-Haynes, RDN, founder of 360Girls&Women and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics based in the greater Boston area.

In a study of 103 people with osteoarthritis (OA), 52 were treated with a bromelain-containing mixture and 51 were treated with diclofenac (a medication for inflammation NSAIDs), notes Anderson-Haynes. Results showed the bromelain-containing mixture can be considered as an effective and safe alternative to NSAIDs in the treatment of painful episodes of OA of the knee, she explains.

Vitamin D is a critical nutrient that plays a role in regulating inflammation, among other things, notes Cassetty. It helps control the level of inflammation involved in the immune response, helping ensure that the inflammatory response is appropriate for healing and doesnt become overactive and harm tissues, she adds.

While people with low levels (i.e., deficiency) of vitamin D may be at increased risk of disease, researchers are still learning about whether higher levels can improve various conditions.

For example, low vitamin D status is associated with depression, but clinical trials involving vitamin D to treat symptoms have been mixed, with some showing a benefit and others not, adds Cassetty.

Green tea and its primary polyphenol, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), has powerful antioxidant properties, which could help reduce inflammation in the body, notes Kunik.

A small clinical trial with 40 participants, half of which had metabolic syndrome, found that people who consumed the equivalent of 5 cups of green tea per day experienced reduced blood sugar, gut inflammation and gut permeability in both those who had metabolic syndrome or who were healthy, she explains.

While these results are promising, the findings were presented at a 2022 scientific conference and should be considered preliminary until more research is available.

Sulforaphane is found naturally in food sources like broccoli or brussel sprouts, but its benefits are more profound when consumed through a supplement given limitations around food preparation and consumption, adds Quinlan.

Research suggests sulforaphane helps to downregulate pro-inflammatory cytokines and helps decrease oxidative stress, she notes.

Peppers from the species Capsicum annuum, like cayenne pepper, contain a high amount of antioxidant compounds that could be involved in managing inflammation in the body.

Specifically, capsaicin, which is a plant-based compound found in the fruit of this pepper type, could help with managing pain and swelling, and lowering inflammation.

One review found that in both animal and human studies, red peppers including Capsicum annuum, were able to control metabolic disorders linked with chronic inflammation by significantly lowering cholesterol levels and improving how well the body uses insulin, explains Anderson-Haynes.

Additional research in people who are healthy and those who have inflammatory conditions are largely needed to confirm the benefits of these anti-inflammatory supplements.

These 11 Vegan Vitamins Are Made With Fruits and Vegetables – VegNews

Posted: at 1:06 am

Cooking at home using plenty of plant-based whole foods, like vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds, is one of the healthiest ways to eat, research suggests. But lets face it, for many of us, it isnt always possible to whip up a meal packed with nutrition every day. In 2021, a survey by OnePoll found that around 45 percent of Americans feel they are simply too busy to cook. If you cant always get enough whole foods in your diet, another option is to take whole food-based vitamins. As the name suggests, these are vitamin capsules that contain ingredients derived from real fruits and vegetables, instead of synthetics. Want to know more? Weve got you. But remember: these arent an excuse to stop eating fruit and vegetables!

To put it simply, whole-food vitamins are dietary supplements that are made from concentrated vitamin-rich whole foods, like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. This can be instead of or in combination with synthetic ingredients, which are often made in a laboratory. So, if you prefer your vitamins to be entirely plant-based, its always worth researching the brand and inspecting the label before you buy. Supplements that list nutrients individually, such as vitamin C, or use chemical names like ascorbic acid, are almost certainly synthetic, notes Mary Jane Brown, PhD, for Healthline.

Before you make any changes to your diet, or start taking a new vitamin, its always best to consult with your healthcare professional first, especially if youre pregnant, nursing, or suffering from a nutritional deficiency. And its important to remember that taking a vitamin is not an overnight fix for a poor diet. Smart lifestyle choices are your best guarantee of future health, Raul Seballos, MD, told Cleveland Clinic.

But that said, vitamins, whether they are synthetic or whole food-based, are generally safe for most people to consume. And some research suggests that whole food options may be better, as they are easier for the body to absorb. Whole-food vitamins may be more bioavailable, meaning your body recognizes and can use them right away, Kara Collier, RDN, LDN, CNSC, told Livestrong. That said, they do tend to have lower concentrations of vitamins, so, again, its important to treat them as a supplement to your diet, rather than a vegetable replacement.

If you want to start taking whole food vitamins, there are a few brands on the market offering various different options. To help you figure out which one is the best for you, weve compiled this list of 11 different brands to check outin no particular order.

The Natural Dispensary
