Musk’s Erratic Behavior May Be Caused By Escalating Drug Use, Associates Say – The Daily Beast
Posted: August 24, 2023 at 11:25 am
Elon Musk has long touted ketamine as an alternative to antidepressantsbut some of his associates suggested to The New Yorker that his personal use of the drug has been on the rise recently, perhaps contributing to his erratic behavior. A little bit of ketamine has an effect similar to alcohol. It can cause disinhibition, where you do and say things you otherwise would not, a leading ketamine researcher Amit Anand told the magazine, adding: You can feel grandiose and like you have special powers or special talents. People do impulsive things, they could do inadvisable things at work. Musk has apparently become more isolated, too, as his relationship with the press and some members of the public becomes more combative. His life just sucks, one colleague told The New Yorker. Its so stressful. Hes just so dedicated to these companies. He goes to sleep and wakes up answering e-mails. Ninety-nine per cent of people will never know someone that obsessed, and with that high a tolerance for sacrifice in their personal life.

Keith Lee pitches Mr. Beast fight on Elon Musk vs. Mark Zuckerberg card – MMA Fighting
Posted: at 11:25 am
Keith Lee hopes to fight fellow influencer Mr. Beast on the undercard of the on-again, off-again Elon Musk vs. Mark Zuckerberg fight card.
Although the battle between the social media titans appears to be on the ropes, Lee on Wednesday pitched the idea of fighting Mr. Beast on his official Tik Tok account, which boasts 13.6 million followers.
I havent thought about fighting in a long time, and I mean no disrespect at all, I just think it would be a dope, entertaining fight, Lee said.
Mr. Beast got the social media world chirping when he posted a picture wearing boxing gloves alongside Logan Paul, who is currently training for a grudge match with Dillon Danis on Oct. 14.
Training for the undercard, wrote Beast, whos also known as Jimmy Donaldson.
Lee fought in MMA at 135 pounds. He said he is now about 185 pounds. Such is the life of a food influencer.
Im solid, though, he said with a smile.
Mr. Beast, who boasts 178 million subscribers on his insanely popular YouTube channel, was estimated by Lee to weigh around 190 pounds, a gap he said could easily be negotiated.
I know me and Jimmy share a lot of the same sentiments, so a portion of our proceeds can go to charity, Lee said.
The picture Mr. Beast posted was a pivot from his earlier stance on influencer boxing matches. In 2021, Donaldson told Colin and Samir that, while intriguing, he was too busy to make the commitment for a boxing match. He said this past year that he would need six months to prepare himself.
Is Mr. Beast ready to make the jump into the squared circle? Lee hopes to find out.

Elon Musk Is Apparently Making the US Government Quite Nervous – Futurism
Posted: at 11:25 am
SpaceX's Starlink satellite terminals have quickly become an essential tool in the arsenal of soldiers on the front lines in Ukraine. The small dishes allow them unfettered lines of communication, despite Russia's attempts to dismantle their networks.
The development has thrown SpaceX CEO Elon Musk right into the middle of a political crisis worrying, considering the mercurial CEO's unpredictable and often brash nature.
And that has Pentagon officials quaking in their boots, as journalist Ronan Farrow writes in a sprawling new feature for the New Yorker.
"Even though Musk is not technically a diplomat or statesman, I felt it was important to treat him as such, given the influence he had on this issue," former Under-Secretary of Defense for Policy at the Pentagon Colin Kahl told Farrow.
Musk's stance on the war in Ukraine has changed considerably since SpaceX initially started handing out terminals to soldiers in early 2022.
At first, his commitment to supporting the Ukrainian cause was palpable, seemingly celebrating the delivery of hundreds of terminals.
But over the coming months, and around 20,000 terminals later, Musk became weary of the costs SpaceX was accruing, tweeting that it was "unreasonable" for the company to keep supporting the growing data usage.
His purported meetings with Russian president Vladimir Putin also raised eyebrows, crystalizing Pentagon officials' concerns over Musk's involvement in the war.
At the time, Starlink communications broke down, throwing Ukrainian lines into chaos. According to the New Yorker's sources, the outages were likely the result of SpaceX intentionally cutting the cord via geofencing.
Meanwhile, in a particularly brazen Twitter thread on October 3, Musk suggested that Ukraine should surrender and give up Crimea as a peaceful outcome of the war.
"My inference was that he was getting nervous that Starlinks involvement was increasingly seen in Russia as enabling the Ukrainian war effort, and was looking for a way to placate Russian concerns," Kahl told Farrow.
Roughly a week after his controversial outpouring on Twitter, Musk denied having ever spoken to Putin about Ukraine, saying he'd only spoken to Putin roughly "18 months ago," and that the "subject matter was space."
Kahl, however, has a strikingly different recollection of events, with Musk reportedly looking at a Starlink activity map on his laptop during a meeting.
"This was, like, three minutes before he said, 'Well, I had this great conversation with Putin,'" Kahl told Farrow. "And we were, like, 'Oh, dear, this is not good.'"
Fortunately, for the front lines in Ukraine, Starlink connectivity has largely been stable with no major interruptions. On October 15, a clearly annoyed Musk announced that SpaceX would "just keep funding Ukraine govt for free" despite SpaceX "still losing money," a promise he has seemingly upheld ever since.
And it's not just Musk's tenuous relationship with Russia. SpaceX's decision to provide Ukrainian soldiers with Starlink has also come to alienate China which is complicated, considering Musk's close business ties with the country. Tesla has made considerable investments in China and runs a massive Shanghai-based plant.
The very existence of Musk's Starlink constellation has even raised concerns among Chinese officials, particularly when it comes to the possibility of unrestricted connectivity within the country's borders.
Seemingly in response, China has since announcedit's working on its own competing satellite network, which could allow it to rival Starlink's.
"The Starlink constellation has finally shown its military colors in the Russia-Ukraine conflict," one Beijing academic familiar with the project, told The Washington Post back in April. "The focus now is to accelerate the development of Chinas own constellation... and explore defensive measures against Starlink-type foreign satellites."
In short, Musk's tremendous influence on the international geopolitical stage has clearly rattled world powers, forcing them to contend with a billionaire business magnate the likes of which the world has never seen before.
Yet despite becoming a "hyper-exposed pop-culture figure," the scope and nature of his "power are less widely understood," Farrow wrote.
"Living in the world we live in, in which Elon runs this company and it is a private business under his control, we are living off his good graces," another Pentagon official told Farrow. "That sucks."

Posted: at 11:25 am
Elon Musk, the maverick billionaire, has got India buzzing with a single tweet. I look forward to it, he declared, responding to a playful tweet about visiting India in 2024.
But heres the juicy bit: this isnt just a casual drop-in. Musks tweet comes on the heels of a rendezvous with Indias Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in New York earlier this year. And Musk had then said that he was planning to visit the country sometime next year.
Now, if youre wondering why Musks India visit is making waves, heres the lowdown. Tesla, Musks electric car brainchild, has been eyeing the Indian market for a while. And while the tech mogul confidently stated that Teslas Indian debut is as soon as humanly possible, theres more to the story.

But, theres a speed bump. Teslas been eager to zoom into India since 2019, but a hefty import duty on EVs is throwing a spanner in the works. With the cheapest Tesla ringing in at around 37 lakh, a 100% import duty could drive prices sky-high, potentially stalling Teslas Indian dream. But with Musks upcoming visit, who knows? Maybe its time for a game-changer.

Tesla's most anticipated EV has been parked exclusively in the 'hype' portion of its life cycle since it was first announced in 2019. The Cybertruck has people excited, with reservations -- as recorded by a crowd-sourced data tracker -- well above one million, though the real number remains unknown.
Demand is so far off the hook, you cant even see the hook," Tesla (TSLA) - Get Free Report CEO Elon Musk said of the truck in July.
DON'T MISS: Tesla Rival Fisker Unveils Its All-Electric Cybertruck Competitor
The lengthy wait seems to be coming to a close; the Cybertruck entered production recently at the company's Gigafactory in Texas and will start to become available over the next few months. Reddit users, meanwhile, have been taking note of Cybertruck's in the wild, with one sharing an image of a Cybertruck being shipped through Pasadena, CA, and another showing a fleet of seven Cybertrucks being shipped through Santa Clarita.

Musk shared a photo of himself behind the wheel of a Cybertruck production candidate at the Gigafactory Wednesday, though some potential owners have had it with the endless hype around this car. They want specs, pricing and hard release dates. But Musk isn't ready to peel back the curtain just yet.
"Enough with the hype, let's get down to business. Please announce the specs, pricing and new estimated delivery event date," one Tesla owner saidon X (formerly Twitter), with another adding: "Can't wait to get specs and pricing at the handover event. When is that?"
But, as evidenced over the past four years, Musk is a patient businessman. He won't be rushed into anything he's not ready for.
More Tesla:
"When we are ready to do so, we will," he said in response. "While I think it is our best product ever, it is an extremely difficult product to build. We are in uncharted territory, because it is not like anything else."
Tesla's stock has slid throughout the month of August, falling to a low of $215 per share on Aug. 18 before ticking back up somewhat. It was down nearly 2% Thursday morning.
Forget Tesla Were all-in on this EV stock

"I Look..": How Elon Musk Reacted To His Viral Childhood Pic – NDTV

The picture of "Baby Elon" has gone viral on social media.
Billionaire Elon Musk has been making headlines ever since he took control of the social media platform Twitter. The richest man in the world keeps on updating his followers and supporters about his life, work and new changes coming to his various companies. A photo of "Baby Elon" recently went viral on the microblogging site and the internet cannot get enough of it. Not only this, Mr Musk reacted to the same and said that he looks "insane".
The photo was shared by a user who goes by the name K10 on Twitter. In the very old sepia picture, the billionaire is seen smiling with a shine in his eyes. It seems that Mr Musk was just 7-12 months old when the picture was clicked.
"The baby that would become the Inventor of the Car Fart, aim for Mars, & make Electric Cars an everyday sight seen on roads around the World .. Elon Baby," reads the caption of the post.
"I look insane lol," said Mr Musk.
Since being shared, the post has amassed 1.5 million views and over seven thousand likes.
"Noooo!!! Too cute!!!" remarked another person.
Another user said, "Nothings changed but I like it."
"Definitely not insane, it's a cute pic," stated a person.
"Untrue! Rays of light poured forth from those eyes!" said another user.
"He looks like someone who knows one day he'll be the richest man in the world!" added a person.
Another internet user said, "Haha. You look overwhelmed + blissful."
Meanwhile, Mr Musk sued the elite law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz to recover most of a $90 million fee it received from Twitter for defeating his bid to walk away from his $44 billion buyout of the social media company.
The complaint by Musk's X Corp, which owns Twitter, was filed on Wednesday in the California Superior Court in San Francisco. The billionaire accused Wachtell of exploiting Twitter by accepting, in the final days before October 27, 2022, buyout closed, huge "success" fees doled out by departing Twitter executives who were grateful that Mr Musk would be forced to close.

Elon Musk believes Tesla will have ‘level 4 or 5’ self-driving this year … – Electrek
Posted: at 2:56 am
Elon Musk has again decided to share a timeline about Teslas self-driving effort again claiming it will achieve full self-driving by the end of the year.
But this time, the CEO has mentioned level 4 or 5 self-driving. However, its not clear if he knows what that means.
Over the years, Musk has claimed that Tesla was on the verge of achieving full self-driving capability so often that it is hard to believe him now.
Its not only hard to believe, but its also even hard to understand what the actual goal is at this point.
Teslas original promise was quite clear: Every car sold since 2016 will be able to drive entirely by itself at a level safer than humans through software updates in the future.
At times, level 5 SAE autonomy was mentioned by Musk, along with the ability to go to sleep while the car drives you around.
But since Tesla released its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta, these previously clear goals have become more vague and disappointing.
Tesla started using terms like feature complete and capable of driving at a level safer than humans with FSD Beta. However, it has become less clear how Tesla plans to get the FSD out of beta and into a product that can actually be useful, like a robot taxi service.
It looks like Tesla has softened its language after missing its goal and timeline a few times, and Musk had mostly stopped making clear timeline predictions until recently.
In the last few months, he mentioned a few times that he believes Tesla will achieve full autonomy by the end of the year though he remained vague about what form it will take.
In a recent comment about Teslas self-driving effort at an AI conference in China, the CEO has used new language that makes things a bit more interesting:
In terms of whereTesla is at this stage, I think we are very close to achieving full self-driving without human supervision. This is only speculation, but I think well achieve full self-driving, maybe what you would call four or five, I think later this year.
The important terms here are without human supervision and four or five although, for the latter, Musk doesnt seem to know what he is talking about.
The driving automation levels are based on the SAE standards, which this chart summarizes well:
The most significant aspect of the jump from level 2 to level 3 is that the responsibility falls with the system (not the driver) starting from level 3 and up.
Meanwhile, the major difference between levels 4 and 5 is that the latter is supposed to be able to drive in any condition anywhere.
The fact that Elon casually says 4 or 5 is maddening to me. Its such a massive difference, and he should know better than keep talking about level 5.
Technically, thats what he promised before, but I think its clearly unachievable with current hardware. You just need to try to use Autopilot in the snow and even heavy rain to see that you often get weather alerts about the sensors being covered, and the system requires you to take over.
Even level 4 is questionable, as FSD Beta often asks drivers to take over in seemingly good conditions. I can see level 3 happening for Tesla, but the company somehow doesnt seem to be interested in that.
We are already halfway through the year. Elons timeline is literally a few months away. I cant believe it can confidently keep claiming this is happening.
