Cyberpunk 2077 developer’s shares surge after Elon Musk said he likes the game – CNBC

LONDON Shares of Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt surged on Thursday after Elon Musk expressed his admiration for the game.
The Tesla CEO tweeted out a photo of his firm's new sedan, the Plaid Model S, suggesting it would be able to run Cyberpunk, Witcher 3 and several other video games.
"It can play Cyberpunk," Musk said. "The esthetics of Cyberpunk are incredible btw."
That tweet appeared to send CD Projekt's share price up sharply Thursday. The stock was up around 12.6% during afternoon trading. It had a rough ride after the release of Cyberpunk, as gamers complained of several bugs and poor performance on older consoles.
Sony even pulled the game from its digital PlayStation Store over the situation, and said it would offer players full refunds. Analysts at the time said it was highly rare for a console to delist a AAA game over quality issues.
This trading week has been one marked by wild volatility in equity markets, fueled in no small part by a burst of amateur traders inspired by the Reddit board r/WallStreetBets flooding heavily-shorted stocks like GameStop and AMC.
Short selling is a strategy in which investors borrow shares of a stock to sell them at a certain price in expectations that the market value will fall below that level when it's time to pay for the borrowed shares.
It's not clear whether CD Projekt's price jump Thursday was the result of a short squeeze. According to IHS Markit, 9.3% of CD Projekt's outstanding shares are currently on loan. The stock became more popular as a short after negative audience reaction to the game.
It wouldn't be the first time a tweet from Musk has sent certain stocks higher. A tweet from the billionaire that said "GameStonk" and linked to the WallStreetBets subreddit, helping GameStop skyrocket in after hours trading Tuesday.
And his tweet telling followers to "use Signal" in reference to the encrypted messaging app which gained popularity after backlash over a privacy update from WhatsApp led investors to push up the share price of Signal Advance, a small component manufacturer.

Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.10/1.11 – has the game improved on PS4 and Xbox One? – Eurogamer.net
Posted: at 11:47 am
CD Projekt RED promised a major patch for Cyberpunk 2077 in January and the studio duly delivered, with version 1.10 promising a slew of bug fixes, stability improvements and - for PlayStation 4 at least - the promise of actual performance upgrades. And this is crucial because we have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that crashes can be rectified and glitches removed, but the fundamental issue is this: does last-gen hardware have the horsepower to deliver a consistent level of performance that's much closer to the target 30fps? Performance analysis of version 1.10 gives us optimism in some respects, but there's still a mountain to climb.
Of course, version 1.10 has since been updated with patch 1.11, which essentially delivers a hotfix update to correct a couple of bugs, but the main optimisation and stability push introduced memory management improvements, and addressed a large array of bugs. What's curious are the platform-specific optimisations: there's talk of crowd optimisation for PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5, but surely the base PS4 should improve too? And why wouldn't these optimisations also improve the situation for Xbox One users. For its part, the Microsoft platform saw memory management changes, specifically around character creation, mirrors, camera scanning and much more.
Curiously though, our tests suggest that there are further improvements - and since it's the vanilla PS4 and Xbox One that really need a lot of work, those are the platforms we initially chose to take a look at. Something we can report straight away: we didn't see the game crash, or lock, or drop back to the front end at all. That's not to say we didn't encounter glitches and bugs - we definitely did - but cleaning up crashing problems and delivering a more stable experience is likely the number one objective of CD Projekt RED. Obviously, our testing is limited to a small area of the game, but we'd chalk this up as a significant step forward for the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 - the state of play in terms of performance, stability and glitches based on the 1.10/1.11 code.
Playing on the standard PlayStation 4, we also noted a couple of improvements that don't seem to have been revealed in the patch notes. First of all, image quality seems to be noticeably improved. Even with the compressed video you'll see on this page, the boost to clarity here should be self-evident - perhaps CDPR has tweaked the temporal anti-aliasing component of the renderer, tweaked post-TAA sharpening or dialled back the intensity of the post-processing pipeline. Regardless, it does look cleaner. Getting a lock on native resolution in this game is a challenge owing to how rapidly pixel counts shift, but our impression is that actual rendering resolution remains unchanged from the launch code - Cyberpunk 2077 just looks cleaner.
In select scenarios, we also noted improved performance too on PS4 - anything up to five or six frames per second, which is quite a feat, a significant leap in percentage terms. Interestingly, we saw this happening in scenarios like the vehicle shoot-out with the scavengers after the first mission - where CDPR's stated crowd system optimisation is unlikely to have made any impact whatsoever. Again, image quality remains clearer and the suite of effects remains the same, so this is genuine progress. But it's clear that we're still some way off an agreeable experience. Other areas of the game basically run the same as they did before and performance issues remain. In frenzied shoot-outs, it's still possible for Cyberpunk 2077 to dip beneath 20fps on PlayStation 4, while hitching from streaming related issues is still present. It's still very difficult to recommend this game to users of the most popular console of the last generation.
Where does version 1.10 leave the Xbox One S? Well, it looks like the improvement to image clarity seen on PlayStation 4 applies to the vanilla Xbox One too, but beyond the improvements to overall stability, all of our test clips revealed no noticeable boost to performance compared to patch 1.02. The often prolonged stutters are gone, the improvements in stability are also present, but the actual way the game plays out remains as unsatisfactory as it was previously. Xbox is also where I experienced one particularly major glitch - and an issue I'd like to see CDPR address is the way that playing on one kind of Xbox can impact the experience if you switch to another. For example, if you play on Series X in quality mode, switching over to Xbox One or Xbox One X sees frame-rates drop to around 15fps. This can only be fully resolved by wiping all game saves from affected Xboxes. I'll leave you to watch the video to see some of the other weird bugs and odd glitches I encountered on both platforms.
Our overview of all of the last-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077, running on 1.04 code - and not particularly well on any platform.
Similar to our work on The Witcher 3, we do aim to chart the progress of Cyberpunk 2077's various patches and upgrades across time, so having completed work on the base machines, our gaze moves over to enhanced consoles. In our initial tests, PS4 Pro - while still possessing grave issues in some scenarios - seemed to be the pick of the bunch when it came to playing the game on last generation systems. However, impressions so far suggest that beyond stability improvements, it's still the same experience overall - our test cases involving crowds (an area singled out by CDPR as the focus for optimisation work in 1.10) showed inconclusive results, and certainly no game-changing improvement.
Ultimately, our takeaway from Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.10 - and indeed 1.11 - is pretty straightforward. Steps have been taken to eliminate game crashes and to improve stability overall - the kind of fundamental improvement that must take precedence, but while there are some improvements to the way the game runs (on base PS4 at least), it doesn't answer the question we had when we saw the very first demo: is it actually possible to run this smoothly on a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One? On the PS4 side, there is the sense that some genuine improvements have been made - but at the same time, if there were fundamental optimisations here, I'd have expected to see some kind of improvement on the Pro side too.
Based on prior PR, CDPR's plan is to deliver another major patch in February, so we'll be reporting back on that as and when the upgrade arrives.

The first official modding tools for ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ have arrived – Engadget
Posted: at 11:47 am
Intrepid gamers havent wasted any time deploying Cyberpunk 2077 mods you could, for example, turn Night City into a smog-covered wasteland like Blade Runner. But now CD Projekt Red is offering its own tools for tweaking the game, which should make it even easier to dive into its wealth of assets. So far, the developer has launched a metadata tool, which other modding software will rely on; a small app that will list whats in the games archives; and another tiny app for listing the contents of its game setting binaries.
If this all sounds incomprehensible to you, dont worry about it. The big takeaway is that these tools could lead to even more mods down the line. CDPR says itll continually update them alongside Cyberpunk 2077s patches, though Id take the developers promises with a grain of salt at this point. The first major patch for the game dropped last week, following a slew of smaller updates shortly after its release. But even though that patch was meant to address memory leaks and other issues, it ended up introducing a game-breaking bug of its own.

So, Was That Infamously Debunked Cyberpunk 2077 Insider Right After All? – Forbes

Cyberpunk 2077
Three weeks ago, something rather weird happened. A reddit post claiming to be documenting the thoughts of an anonymous CDPR developer about Cyberpunk 2077s launch started to go viral, spawning a number of YouTube videos that apparently required a response from CDPR itself. During a time when we were receiving pretty much no updates about the game itself, they posted the following:
Hell, theyve only posted seven tweets since then, so clearly it ruffled some feathers.
But now in the wake of a true insider report based on Jason Schreiers reporting at Bloomberg, plus whats happened with the actual game and patches, I keep hearing from people who are telling me See, that reddit post was right after all!
So I decided to go back and give it another look. And with all the new information we know now I can conclude that
No, sorry, I still dont think its real. And if anything, it seems even less real now, if you really go back and look at it.
Ill go through a few of the points specifically, but in general, let me say that the entire concept of we had to cut a bunch of stuff and management was bad is not exactly a huge stretch to imagine, even if you were inventing all of the other details from scratch. Often insiders just play on the obvious and act like its some grand revelation. But the details dont really add up.
"CDPR hurt themselves to keep investors safe and sound.
So uh, how did that work out, exactly? CDPR stock price has fallen sharply and theyre now facing multiple lawsuits on behalf of their investors for misleading the public about the state of the game which ultimately led to the stock slide. Whatever decisions management made they certainly did not make investors happy.
Cyberpunk Roadmap
Now devs are hearing plans of a "No Man's Sky" style comeback due in late June
We have since gotten an actual roadmap about whats coming to the game in the next year, and all thats listed are a few patches, some generalized talk of fixes, free DLC which was already promised (now delayed) and the next gen update (also delayed). Nothing about CDPRs tone through all this has suggested plans for some grand No Mans Sky turnaround, and the only thing we will see by June are probably some more fix patches and the free DLC, which will be on the level of The Witcher 3s small free DLC offerings, nothing like a big No Mans Sky expansion.
The first two patches should come out mid-March, despite what's been said by top execs.
This has already been proven false. Not that this weeks 1.1 patch was good mind you, but it did make it out by Januarys end and the second is scheduled for February.
Cyberpunk 2077
The directors and senior devs are taking the flak for the team in what I'd call "an honourable move"
While CDPR management did take responsibility in their apology video, they were also criticized for what appeared to be throwing QA under the bus a bit for not catching some of the largest issues on older consoles.
Most apartments with "Closed (locked)" indications used to be lootable
This was something that never made sense at the time, as locked doors are not uncommon in games like this and its hard to imagine that the game was ever meant to have like 30x the interior space. This seems entirely made up.
I don't want to hate on Keanu, but f***ing hell, our original Johnny was way cooler and sounded like a maniac.
Theres a whole section here trash talking Keanus performance which doesnt really ring true. We have seen concept art for a non-Keanu Johnny Silverhand, and yet obviously I dont think that character was conceived from day one with him in mind, so that makes sense.
Cyberpunk 2077
The game was jumbled together for 2019's E3.
This does not line up with Schreiers reporting that the E3 demo was actually completely detached from the main game, mostly faked to illustrate the concepts, and actual CDPR devs were worried about too much being invested in the E3 demo as opposed to the actual game.
Police pathfinding script worked wonderfully until somebody screwed the pooch. All I know it is already being fixed. It was a major oversight, of course.
Again, this contrasts with reporting that the police system was actually just thrown into the game last minute with no indication that there was ever a good version of it. Also I have a hard time believing a Polish dev would use the phrase screwed the pooch.
You get it. There are some details that are so hyper specific they really cant be proven or disproven yet, but this never felt real at the time, and no, it still doesnt feel real now, even knowing all the problems behind the scenes, with some of it flat-out disproven at this point. So yeah, you can stop saying this post turned out to be true.

What Cyberpunk 2077’s Johnny Silverhand looked like before he became Keanu Reeves – PC Gamer
Posted: at 5:29 pm
A senior concept artist on Cyberpunk 2077, Lea Leonowicz, has posted some of her work depicting one of the game's central characters, Johnny Silverhand. This is especially interesting because the work clearly dates from before the point when Keanu Reeves was signed up to play the role, and the character was redesigned to look like... well, Keanu Reeves.
The images were posted to Leonowicz's artstation page (first spotted by altchar) and show that the initial concept chosen was a wirier version of the leather-trouser-loving rocker though, as in his final Reevsian form, he always liked a smoke.
Another image shows the detail on this Johnny's tattoos, plus the detail of his battle- and surgery-scarred torso.
Leoniwicz also posted an image showing various other facial and clothing concepts for the character (image below, or click here for the full-size version). I'm quite fond of the third guy from the left, who looks like he's a bit tired of all this cyber-bullshit, but was probably also too fresh-faced.
The keen-eyed will note that Johnny's prosthetic arm is switching sides in the various drawings: in the final game it was his left arm. Finally, there is this pretty awesome artwork for an action scene involving this version of Johnny. Big love for the bullet glancing off the cyber-arm.
If you enjoyed this glimpse of some of Cyberpunk's behind-the-scenes art and want more, Leonowicz's artstation page is absolutely chock-full of incredible work from the game.

Valve’s Gabe Newell Weighs in On CD Projekt’s Situation With ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ – HYPEBEAST
Posted: January 21, 2021 at 3:15 pm
Following news that CD Projekt Red is again facing more unfortunate news with a class-action lawsuit, Valves Gabe Newell has stepped in to express his sympathy for the battered game developer.
On top of mentioning that Cyberpunk 2077 itself is an amazing game that required a lot of talent of produce, Newell went on to say, I have a lot of sympathy with a situation that every game developer finds themselves in. There are aspects of the game that are just brilliant, and it shows a tremendous amount of work its unfair to throw stones at any other developer, because just getting something as complex and ambitious as that out the door is pretty amazing.
This news also comes just a week after CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiski uploaded a video explaining some of the hurdles that the team faced internally before the launch. In the video, he asks for forgiveness and takes responsibility for the rough launch.
In other gaming news, PlayStation 5 scalper shows off his 2,000 pre-ordered units.

All Cyberpunk 2077 Hidden Choices & What They Affect – Screen Rant
Posted: at 3:15 pm
Cyberpunk 2077 is full of hidden choices that affect the game in unexpected ways. Players may not always learn the consequences of their choices until much later in the game, and some subtle decisions can even affect the game's ending. Players may also miss some critical choices entirely if V doesnt explore every side job Cyberpunkhas to offer.
While Cyberpunk 2077 usually makes it obvious which choices are going to have a major impact on the game, some of these decisions are hidden in optional objectives or side jobs. The main storyline alone is 30 hours long, and the dozens of side jobs, gigs, and NCPD scanner hustles extend the game's length even more. Making the wrong decision early in the game could lead to a bad outcome many hours later, or could impact Vs possible endings.
Related:Cyberpunk 2077: How To Play The GOOD Version
For V to have the best outcomes in the game, players must make some difficult decisions. Here are some of Cyberpunk 2077s hidden choices and how they affect the game.
At the end of "The Heist," Delamain asks V where to send Jackies body. It doesnt seem like that important of a decision at the time, but Vs choice does affect later quests and storylines. If V chooses to send Jackies body back to his family or asks Delamain to wait until they get back from the meet with Dex, then V will be invited to a memorial service by Mama Welles in the "Heroes" side job. If V chooses to send Jackies body to the ripperdoc, they miss out on the memorial but get additional dialogue and storylines later in the game.
In "Automatic Love," V needs to deal with Woodman, the owner of Clouds whos partially responsible for Evelyns fate. V has three options: storm into Woodmans office guns blazing and kill everyone, sneak in and interrogate Woodman before killing him, or interrogating Woodman and letting him live. If V chooses to kill Woodman, its a pretty standard boss fight, and then hes removed from the story. If V lets Woodman live, theyll have to deal with him later in Judys side job "Ex-Factor."
After "Automatic Love," V needs to talk to Fingers, a ripperdoc who worked on Evelyn. Hes a bad dude, and at several points in the conversation, V has the option to hit him, which is very tempting. Doing so doesnt cause any major consequences in the story, but it does eliminate him as an available ripperdoc in the city.
In "Gimme Danger," Takemura decides to do some reconnaissance before the parade, and V has the option to join him. Doing so gives V information about the buildings weak points, and allows them to have a deep conversation with Takemura that will cement their friendship. This has a significant impact on future dialogue choices in the game and can affect one of the endings.
Related:Cyberpunk 2077: All Free Car and Vehicle Locations
If V sent Jackies body to Vik at the end of "The Heist," Takemura will share that Jackies body was intercepted by Arasaka and that they plan to use Soulkiller on him to extract information and create an engram.
In "Play It Safe," V needs to take down Oda, Hanako Arasakas bodyguard. After V defeats Oda, Takemura calls and asks them to spare Odas life. If V chooses to shoot Oda, hes gone from the game for good, but if V spares his life then Oda can potentially show up later in one of the endings. This decision doesnt influence the story in any real way, but it can add some extra flavor to Cyberpunk 2077'sendgame.
This is a truly hidden decision, because there isnt a quest objective or dialogue option that tells V this is a possibility. After police storm the building, V gets separated from Takemura and needs to fight a bunch of enemies and escape. The quest objective leads V out of the building, but in order to save Takemura, V will need to go upstairs and rescue him first. Saving Takemura allows players to unlock The Devil trophy or achievement (if they chose the corresponding ending), and Takemura will show up during the Epilogue.
In "Happy Together," Vs neighbor Barry is going through a tough time after the death of his best friend. Barrys colleagues from NCPD ask V to check in on him. In order to get the best outcome of this quest, V must speak to Barry within an unspecified amount of time, or the quest will auto-complete and fail.
Related:When Cyberpunk 2077 is Coming Back To The PlayStation Store
After speaking to Barry, V can visit Andrews memorial, where they find out hes a tortoise. Then V needs to report back to the NCPD officers and tell them the truth about Andrew. If V leaves that part out, the officers dont realize how much danger Barry is in, and Barry ends up taking his own life.
"The Beast In Me" involves a series of street races organized by Claire, a bartender at the Afterlife. After the Santa Domingo race, Claire reveals to V that she wants help killing Sampson in revenge. V can try to convince Claire not to take revenge or to support her, which has an affect on choices made later in the questline. Regardless of what V chooses, in the last race Claire wants V to stick close to Sampson's tail so she can shoot him. If V ignores Claire and treats this like a normal Cyberpunk 2077 street race, theyll get the winnings, but Claire will act coldly towards them when they see her later in the Afterlife.
If V does what Claire asks, theyll lose the race, and be faced with another choice. If V allows Claire to take her revenge, theyll win Claires unique truck as a reward. If V tries to convince Claire to spare Sampson, the outcome depends on what V chose to do after the Santa Domingo race. If they tried to talk Claire out of revenge, Claire will spare Sampson now, and V will get both Claires truck and Sampsons unique car as rewards. If V didnt try to talk Claire out of revenge before, the attempt will fail now and Claire will kill Sampson.
In Dream On, V finds evidence that a mystery organization is performing mind control on the Peralez couple and altering their memories. Elizabeth Peralez begs V not to tell Jefferson the truth out of fear for his safety. When V meets with Jefferson at the end of the quest, they can choose to tell him the truth, or lie and point the finger in another direction. Whichever option V chooses, Jefferson thanks them and concludes the mission.
Related:What Does Choom Mean In Cyberpunk 2077
Afterwards, V receives some concerning text messages from Jefferson and Elizabeth before they block Vs number, and V doesnt hear from them for the rest of the game. If V chooses to tell Jefferson the truth, hell call during the end credits of Cyberpunk 2077 and talk in a panicked voice about how they are changing him.
In a game as long and complex as Cyberpunk 2077, it can be frustrating to face unexpected consequences hours after making an innocuous decision. Most of the hidden choices in Cyberpunk 2077 do not have a major impact on the ending, but they can add depth to the story and unlock more side quests later in the game.

What does an architect think of Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City? – PC Gamer

So much of the work that went into Cyberpunk 2077 is in world design, the sprawling city itself, and the massive buildings that make it up. How, then, does someone deeply versed in the art and craft of architecturethe creation of spaces and a student of how they're usedfeel about Night City? There's one architect who, despite the bugs, feels drawn back toward the fictional city because of the design of its spaces.
Architect Morphologis runs a video series called An Architect Reviews focused on spaces inside of digital worlds, and their latest is about the spaces of Night City. It's an interesting tour of some of the major spaces in the game, starting with V's massive housing block, which Morphologis compares to the output of the 70s Japanese Metabolism movement, which focused on huge, semi-organic structures. They also call out other architecture movements like Brutalism, 1930s Asian art-deco, business architecturesall scattered across the city.
They go back over and over to the idea of oppressive architecture, the idea that people are cogs in the Cyberpunk machine. There are a lot of interesting insights that only an architect knows, though: Morpholgois points out that as corporations take over in Cyberpunk, it's clear that building regulations have vanished, allowing buildings to overtake each other, build on top, and infringe on public space. There's also the key idea that the roads of Cyberpunk are "spaghettified" and interweaving. They say it's "an accurate depiction of what a future city ruled by corporations might look like."
