CF man pleads guilty to role in Eagle Point murder – Eau Claire … – Leader-Telegram

Posted: at 3:22 am

CHIPPEWA FALLS One of the two men involved in the shooting death of 31-year-old Kenneth Patterson in the town of Eagle Point last March 13 pleaded guilty Thursday to his role in the murder.

Matthew L. Labrec, 21, 50 E. Spruce St., Chippewa Falls, was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon and armed robbery by use of force in Chippewa County Court. The armed robbery conviction carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $100,000 fine. The main charge of first-degree intentional homicide was read-in and dismissed, but can be considered in determining the length of Labrecs sentence.

Judge Steve Cray accepted the plea and ordered a pre-sentence investigation be conducted, with the sentencing set for May 2.

Im going to want as much information as I can gather on this situation, Cray said.

As part of the plea agreement, the state cannot request a longer sentence than what is recommended by the PSI, but the defense is free to argue for a shorter prison term.

Assistant district attorney Roy Gay said the plea deal had been discussed over recent months with then-district attorney Steve Gibbs and all the assistants in the office.

This is helpful that Mr. Labrec has taken responsibility for his actions, Gay said after the hearing. More importantly, we dont have to worry about a joint trial it will simplify matters.

Defense attorney Matthew Krische noted that Labrec could have entered a plea of no contest.

We felt a plea of guilty was just the better choice, Krische said after the hearing.

Krische said that Labrec had been forthright with officers after the shooting occurred, and he believed that a plea agreement of this nature was always something in the cards.

Labrec is incarcerated in the Columbia Correctional Institution because of prior felony convictions of armed robbery and possession of methamphetamine; he was brought to the Chippewa County Jail on Monday for the hearing.

Labrec and 21-year-old Jesse R. Lloyd, previously of 235 W. Central St., are both charged in Pattersons death. Lloyd is incarcerated at Waupun Correctional Facility. Lloyd entered a not guilty plea at a hearing in December; he is due back in court March 3 in front of Judge James Isaacson.

The criminal complaint states Lloyd shot and killed Patterson on Sunday, March 13, 2016, in the town of Eagle Point. Pattersons body was found near the intersection of 83rd Ave. and 162nd St., northeast of Chippewa Falls, by a passerby at 9 a.m. March 14. Patterson was shot once, in the right leg, striking a vein and damaging the artery, causing him to die of blood loss. Authorities believe Lloyd and Labrec intended to rob Patterson.

Labrec told authorities in the days after the shooting that they both fired guns at Patterson, but Labrecs .22-caliber long gun didnt discharge; only the hand gun used by Lloyd actually fired shots.

Labrec was convicted of possession of meth in Chippewa County Court in July 2014 and was give a three year imposed-and-stayed sentence. In April, his probation was revoked and he was sent to Dodge Correctional Institution. In May, Judge Steve Cray sentenced him to 18 months in prison for spitting at an officer.

Labrec also was charged with failure to report to jail. Labrec was released from jail on Jan. 12, 2016, and was supposed to immediately see his probation agent, but didnt go there. When he showed up the following day, he tested positive for meth in his system. During Thursdays hearing, Cray read-in and dismissed that case.

Cystic Fibrosis – National Library of Medicine – PubMed Health

Posted: at 3:22 am

Cystic fibrosis (SIS-tik fi-BRO-sis), or CF, is an inherited disease of the secretory (see-KREH-tor-ee) glands. Secretory glands include glands that make mucus and sweat.

"Inherited" means the disease is passed from parents to children through genes. People who have CF inherit two faulty genes for the disease - one from each parent. The parents likely don't have the disease themselves.

CF mainly affects the lungs, pancreas, liver, intestines, sinuses, and sex organs.

Overview

Mucus is a substance made by tissues that line some organs and body cavities, such as the lungs and nose. Normally, mucus is a slippery, watery substance. It keeps the linings of certain organs moist and prevents them from drying out or getting infected.

If you have CF, your mucus becomes thick and sticky. It builds up in your lungs and blocks your airways. (Airways are tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs.)

Team Katusha has certainly changed its make up for the upcoming season. A Swiss registration, a new joint-title sponsor in Alpecin and the arrival of individual time trial World Champion Tony Martin gives the team a fresh new look.

While these aspects of the team have changed, the bikes remain much the same from last years season.

Tiago Machado rides the Canyon Aeroad CF SLX with a combination of Zipp Firecrest 303 wheels, a SRAM Red eTap groupset and Selle Italia saddle and handlebar tape.

The finishing kit is Canyons in-house design made up of a S27 Aero VCLS carbon seatpost and an integrated handlebar and stem combination, the H11 Aerocockpit.

The Zipp wheels are paired with Continental Competition 25mm tubular tyres, with the professional peloton issue electrical tape to prevent any unwanted valve rattle.

Although the SRAM groupset provides wireless shifting, Team Katusha-Alpecin is riding a Di2 focussed frameset with the internal cable routing holes bunged up at the rear dropout.

With SRAM not manufacturing any direct-mount brakes, the bike is equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace direct mount brakes.

CF Orr Stakes day Caulfield racing preview – The Sydney Morning Herald

Posted: at 6:18 am

Race 1

There is no doubt that Signoff is the class horse in the opener on Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes day. The veteran stayer has changed stables and has not been seen at the races for a while, but he has been given a nice build-up for this race and is capable of sprinting well fresh. Hipparchus returned to winning form at Flemington last start and will start this race as favourite, but will likely get a fair way back from the wide draw. Refulgent is never far away in these sort of races, while Nozomi has been racing well.

Race 2

This is a very open edition of the Autumn Stakes and seven of the eight horses in the field are available at single-figure odds with Ladbrokes. Attention was not really suited in the Expressway Stakes and this is a much better race for the Stratum colt. Kerrin McEvoy will likely look to control the race and he will be tough to run down. Ruthven is an untapped horse with a great deal of potential. He was unlucky not to win the Sandown Guineas atjust his third start and it would not surprise to see him go to another level this preparation.

Race 3

The Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies could produce the favourite for the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes in a fortnight. The unbeaten Catchy opened as a clear favourite, but all the early money has been for Limestone. She has improved each time that she has been seen at the races and she still has a great deal of upside. Artic Angel is the X-factor in the race. She ran serious time when she won the Merson Cooper Stakes in the spring and she will give her rivals something to catch. Catchy must be respected, while Blondie is a horse that appeals at double-figure odds.

Race 4

Team Snowden have an outstanding record when they bring two-year- olds to Melbourne and Pariah should be very tough to beat in the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude for colts and geldings. He looks like a very professional racehorse and there was a lot to like about the way he hit the line in theCanonbury Stakes. Property won the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Preview in impressive fashion and he maps to get a lovely run into this race with Craig Williams in the saddle. It would not surprise to seeAzazel take a big step forward second-up.

Race 5

Jennifer Lynn is a filly with plenty of talent and she looks to have a clear class edge over her rivals in the Kevin Hayes Stakes. She was beaten first-up by Navagio, but she is sure to have taken plenty of improvement from that run. Fuhryk opened as the early favourite, but it is fair to say she was a touch disappointing in the Inglis Dash. She had no excuses for that defeat and may have had enough this time in. Zunbaqa produced a number of credible performance in her maiden racing campaign and must be respected.

Questionable form: Chautauqua, with Tommy Berry in the saddle, claims the Chairman's Sprint Prize in Hong Kong. Photo: supplied

Race 6

There is no doubt that Chautauqua holds the key to the Rubiton Stakes. He has lengths on this field if he performs at his best, but the jury is out after he failed to fire in both the Moir Stakes and theManikato Stakes in the spring. It would be great to see him return to his best. The horse that could take advantage of any chinks in the armour of Chautauqua is Wild Rain. She makes her own luck right on the speed and her record at 1100 metres is excellent. She will give the big grey something to catch. Hellbent has been a touch disappointing at his past two starts, but is an extremely talented sprinter on his day.

Race 7

The Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes is always an interesting betting race and the 2017 edition is no different. The Australia Stakes is the key form reference and it would not surprise to see Black Heart Bart turn thetables on Malaguerra. Black Heart Bart has far more upside at the 1400 metres and he won the Memsie Stakes over this track and distance in the spring. Lucky Hussler was a good thing beaten in the Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes last year and he had no luck whatsoever in the Magic Millions Cup. The X-factor in the race could be Arod. He is a genuine world-class galloper on his day and his only run during the spring was excellent. Awesome Rock, Turn Me Loose, Palentino, He's OurRokkii, Jameka and Divine Prophet are all group 1 winners in their own right.

Race 8

The Carlyon Cup is one of the trickiest betting races of the day. Darren Weir has a very strong hand and it would not surprise if he trained the trifecta with Burning Front, Humidor and Real Love. This is the easiest race that Tally has contested for some time and he is capable of running well first-up. Tom Melbourne has always had a massive amount of potential and Lee Freedman believes that he may finally have gotten to the bottom of the Dylan Thomas gelding. Grande Rosso has been racing well and has a fitness edge over the majority of his main rivals.

Race 9

Nobody will be leaving Caulfield early on Saturday as this is a very interesting race. Ameristralia has the fitness edge over her rivals and has been racing well this preparation. Abbey Marie and Silent Sedition fought out the finish in the Australasian Oaks last year and a repeat would not surprise this weekend. Abbey Marie has not been seen at the races since that win, but she has three wins from as many race starts. The early money for Thames Court is no surprise. She went to another level during the 2016 spring carnival and first-up last campaign she was only narrowly denied in the Cockram Stakes.

LaLiga: Valencia CF on the brink of a civil war – Yahoo Sports

Posted: at 6:18 am

Oh Valencia. Anybody who has had the pleasure of visiting oneofthe most underrated cities in Spain will know that its full of friendly, happy-go-lucky people. Its a city that has suffered more than most during the on-going economical crisis but whenever theres a reason to celebrat, no one stays at home moping about the tough times. In the spirit of Chumbawamba when they get knocked down, they get up again.

A crucial part of being a Valencianista is having thick skin, consider them the rhinos of the footballing world. For some strange reason theres unbridled joy up and down Spain at Valencias current plight, as if theyve wronged people in the past. Ironically so many of those poking fun are unhappy with their own board, chairman and coach. Perhaps the pointing and laughing is a welcome distraction from their own clubs mess, who knows?

I made my return to the Mestalla at the weekend to watch them face Eibar, a side so many admire for their hardworking attitude and constant push to defy the odds. Over the past couple of years Ive seen plenty of matches here and on Twitter I mentioned the fact Id never seen them lose at home [sorry guys]. What surprised me wasnt the defeat, although the manner of it did, but theunderlying feeling which has engulfed the club.

As you make your way to the station, whether its on the metro or on foot, the nerves and fear are evident. I arrived later than Id wanted to but outside the ground no one was confident. Those who werent pessimistic were angry, frustrated at decisions being made in the boardroom and by an absent chairman who, to most fans, is seen as not caring.

Protests took place before the match organised by the Curva Nord. I dont personally like the termUltras because it has a negative connotation to it, as if theyre all brainless thugs who care little about football and more about defending their territory. Im not going to delve into the deep history of the group or paint them all as saints either, but you cant deny their love and passion for the club. It isnt about having a tear up, its about respect and how little they feel theyve been shown.

Taking on the most vocal fans is adangerous game to play, especially when youre already disliked by many casual fans. Valencia decided they didnt want anyone over the age of 30 in the area occupied by the Curva Nord behind the goal, despite how long theyve been asocio or member there. Its like tackling a small fire by throwingbarrels of petrol on it. Irresponsible, needless and once again, alienating a fan base alreadydisillusioned by the direction the club is heading in.

Just before Christmas the club amended the rule of no one over the age of 30 being allowed to remain in the Curva Nord but all wasnt as it seemed.Valencia tricked people by saying everyone would be allowed to return to the stand but this wasnt true. Only a few were allowed in and theyve left more than 40 people out. Theres even more people who havent been able to renew their season ticket because they arent allowed in the same stand as always, the Curva Nord told me.

And thats the crux of Valencias issues: its run by people who have no experience or idea when it comes to managing a football club. Peter Lim is clearly a very smart business man, as his personal fortune wouldattest to, but his ownership of Valencia makesHarchesterUnited look like the model club. Fans chanted,Dndeests, Peter Lim? (Where are you, Peter Lim?) If truth be told, its probably for the best he doesnt spend more time in Spain as whenever hes here its just to sell the current star player before he disappears back to Singapore.

Lim isnt a hands-on chairman and instead prefers to delegate duties tothose he trusts. When the current chairwoman, Layhoon Chan, said:I am Peter Lim she wasnt joking. Shes a fantastic speaker and when Amadeo Salvo stepped down from therole for personal reasons, Layhoon was seen as someone to trust, to confide in. She seemed toget what the fans needed and in times of crisis helped ease the tensions. But judging her solely on the decisions taken, shes lost the backing of the fans too.

The handling of the Paco Alcacer saga and his consequent move to Barcelona made her look weak.Ofcourse, as if there was any doubt, Paco Alcacer is a Valencia player. We dont want to sell Paco. Chans words to a local supporters club or Penya after rumours Lim was only in Barcelona to sell their star striker. It turned outthe damage had already been done and the decision to sell of the face of Valencia was later confirmed. Maybe Layhoon didnt finish that sentence aboutbeing Peter Lim and it shouldve instead beenIm Peter Lims airbag.

Layhoon comes across as a genuinely nice person but the burden of hope, that for a short period of time galvanised the fan base, has been torn down and shes now seen as a liar. Her word is no longer her bond and shes lost the trust which was handed to her. A bit like that meme of the dog sat in a roomon fire whilst sayingThis is fine, she appears out of her depth, her reputation irrecoverable.

The decisions taken since Lim has been in charge have been largely ridiculous too. Theyve gone through Juan Antonio Pizzi, Nuno Espirito Santo, Gary Neville, Pako Ayestaran and Cesare Prandelli as managers in a little over two and a half years. The current coach, Voro, has stepped in as a stop-gap various times but is now tasked with saving the club. In terms of directors of football it started out with Rufete, moved on to Jorge Mendes and Nuno, then Suso Garcia Pitarch and currently has the clubs academy director, Jose Ramon Alexanko, covering the role on an interim basis. Its like building a house in the middle of the ocean and notrealising the bricks aresimply sinking to the bottom of the seabed.

Returning briefly to the aftermath of the defeat to Eibar, the club felt it was an opportune time topubliclyannounce removing Mario Kempes from his role as ambassador. His contract was actually up in December but no official word until now was given on whether hed remain or not. And what topped it off even more was putting the decision down to the fact Kempes is too far away in the USAto fulfil the role correctly. Yes, the irony of having an owner based in Singapore deciding a club legend, held in high esteem by the fans, was too far away from the club to justify his position is incredible.

Now the decision to remove Kempes wasnt necessary a surprise but the timing of it was, and the reasoning given, more so. Valencias ambassador has been vocal at thedisarray surrounding the club, and in particular its decisions under Limsmanagement, but common sense is a trait seldom found by the decision makers. They didnt even consult Kempes during his time as ambassador!

They never cared about my opinion, never asked or consulted me about anything, Kempes said at the decision not to renew his role.At the club there are people who want to talk but they dont. Lim doesnt know how to surround himself with people who love Valencia and who could advise him [better].

Layhoon is a good leader, with a kind heart and nice ideas, although her management on a footballing level has been a disaster.Peter Lim abandoned Layhoon. Hes left her in the middle of the circus surrounded by lions. Those at Meriton are used to no one telling them the truth and they do what they want, how they want.

Valencia appointed Dami Vidagany as Director of Marketing in Europe earlier in the season and hes been talking to the local press to see what the general opinion is towards the project and decisions made so far. The issue is the planning department tends to be dominated by short-term ideas and people are naturally sceptical as to whether this approach will change anything in regards to how the club is run.

With each passing week the club falls further and further into the abyss. When I spoke with the guys from the Curva Nord about how they would go about resolving the issues at the club, what would need to change, their response gave little hope of reaching a solution.Unfortunately Valencia needs to change everything. Were at thepoint of going down due to all areas of the club performing horribly. At the next home game, in the 10th minute, theyll be a Kempes si, Lim no chant.

Former chairman Amadeo Salvo has waded into the conflict too. Valencia are going through one of the worst moments in its history, he told RadioEsportValencia. Salvo has remained silent since leaving the club, to help with the takeover, but revealed that a clause of secrecy didnt exist. He explained due to professional reasons he wouldnt be back in Spain for another couple of weeks but from that point onwards would be open to speaking his mind on Valencias woes.

Valencia need to pick their battles correctly to keep as many people on side as possible. Now isnt the time to make yet more rash decisions which will only serve to swell the ranks of those opposed to the current regime. Its about listening to fans and not trying to pull the wool over their eyes or treat them as if theyre fools. The solution wont happen overnight or come easy but its essential they work towards a long-term goal and abandon the short-termism approach which is destroying the club.

Own a Piece of the Pot: Fundanna is First Reg CF Crowdfunding Portal for Cannabis Industry – Crowdfund Insider

Posted: February 7, 2017 at 10:27 pm

Fundanna is the first investment crowdfunding portal targeting the Cannabis industry to be approved by FINRA and the SEC to issue securities under Reg CF. Fundanna is the newest brand from Chicago-basedtruCrowd.

Fundanna is looking to leverage the emerging retail Cannabis market that is expected to hit $11 billion by 2018 and then rise to $22 billion in the next five years. The portal is dedicated exclusively to the Cannabis sector offering investments for both accredited and non-accredited investors. Issuing companies may raise up to $1 million in stock, debt or hybrid securities all online.

Fundanna has already listed the first investment opportunity. The app based company NextRXis a Reward Membership Network for MMJ patients. It seeks to provide easy access and check-in for medical dispensaries patients through an exclusive RX-Pass system while enabling patients to accumulate membership rewards.

It is a big deal for the cannabis companies to be able to offer securities to the public and remain private companies, says Vincent Petrescu, CEO of Fundanna. Just imagine the potential of turning your existing user base into investors. Besides the money raised, the company will benefit of a loyal client/investor base. I think that the truism I stop drinking Coca Cola after I invested in Pepsi it is very applicable here.

Claudia Ecobici, co-founder of Fundanna, describes Cannabis as one of the most versatile plants in the world. From fighting cancer to preventing diabetes, Ecobici believes it is time to bring the plant out of the dark and demonstrate the benefits to society and the economy.

Funding is one of the top challenges, as banks and lenders have limitations when considering a loan to sin based businesses and angels are risk averse to early stage companies, explains Ecobici. Fundannas goal is to support the industrys growth by giving investors access to cannabis investments and entrepreneurs the chance to get their first round of funding and build their company.

How Does CF Industries Holdings, Inc. (CF) Stack Up Right Now? – StockNewsJournal

Posted: at 10:27 pm

CF Industries Holdings, Inc. (CF) is an interesting player in the Basic Materials space, with a focus on Agricultural Chemicals. The stock has been active on the tape, currently trading at $35.49, down from yesterdays close by -0.53%. Given the stocks recent action, it seemed like a good time to take a closer look at the companys recent data.

Does this stock stack up well when compared to its peers in the industry space? Lets take a look. CF Industries Holdings, Inc. (CF) currently trades with a market capitalization of $8.26 Billion. That value represents a market adjusting for revenues that have been falling by -26.68 % on a quarterly year/year basis as of the companys last quarterly report.

The balance sheet health of any company plays a key role in its ability to meet its obligations and maintain the faith of its investment base. For CF, the company currently has $1.56 Billion of cash on the books, which is offset by $- current liabilities. You can get a sense of how sustainable that is by a levered free cash flow of $-1.77 Billion over the past twelve months. Generally speaking, earnings are expected to grow in coming quarters. Analysts are forecasting earnings of $-0.06 on a per share basis this quarter. Perhaps, that suggests something about why 0.15% of the outstanding share supply is held by institutional investors.

Weve taken a serious look at this stock from a fundamental perspective, but the tale of the tape may offer more hints about what lies under the surface. Looking at the stocks movement on the chart, CF Industries Holdings, Inc. recorded a 52-week high of $37.17. It is now trading 1.68% off that level. The stock is trading $31.84 its 50-day moving average by -3.65%. The stock carved out a 52-week low down at $20.25.

In recent action, CF Industries Holdings, Inc. (CF) has made a move of +6.04% over the past month, which has come on weak relative transaction volume. Over the trailing year, the stock is underperforming the S&P 500 by 5.53, and its gotten there by action that has been more volatile on a day-to-day basis than most other stocks on the exchange. In terms of the mechanics underlying that movement, traders will want to note that the stock is trading on a float of 13.98% with $232.05 Million sitting short, betting on future declines. That suggests something of the likelihood of a short squeeze in shares of CF.
