The Detroit Tigers have yet to officially throw in the towel on the 2017 season, but it appears that a selloff is inevitable as the organization looks to build a brighter future.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com rounded up some MLB trade rumors and notes today as we approach the final month before the trade deadline. In his column, Morosi noted that the Tigers could targetLos Angeles Dodgers center field prospect Alex Verdugo in a possible J.D. Martinez trade if they do decide to sell.

If the Tigers decide to sell and they havent made that decision yet theyd like to come away from the Trade Deadline with their center fielder for 2018. Dodgers prospect Alex Verdugo is among the names on their wish list.

The 21-year-old Verdugo has spent all of 2017 in AAA where he has hit an impressive.340/.413/.464. He has probably been a bit lucky with a .367 average on balls in play but hes shown average power and doesnt strike out much. So far in 2017 hes drawn 29 walks against only 25 strikeouts.

Verdugo is no stranger to the state of Michigan either. He played 101 games in Midland as a member of the Great Lakes Loons in 2015 where he posted a .719 OPS with five home runs and 13 stolen bases before moving up a level to finish the year.

Verdugo came into the year as the number three prospect in the Dodgers system according to Baseball Americas rankingsfrom January (leaving out Jose De Leon who was traded). MLB Pipeline currently ranks him as the number two prospect in the organization.

Anthony Fenech of theDetroit Free Pressasked some scouts executives toput a trade value on J.D. Martinez. The responses indicated that the Tigers could receive an organizations number two type prospect in return (plus an additional piece or two). That type of valuation would put a player like Verdugo in play should the Tigers and Dodgers agree to a trade involving Martinez.

Verdugo has spent most of his minor league career playing center field but has split time at the position with Trayce Thompson (hes shifted to right field when Thompson gets the start in center).

WASHINGTON STATE's Ike Iroegbu tells Cougfan.com he has worked out for a half-dozen NBA teams leading up to Thursdays draft. In this CF.C podcast, the former Washington State guard goes into detail on what his experience has been like over the past few months, what a pre-draft NBA workout consists of and how his family has shaped him into the person he is today.

After graduating from WSU, Iroegbu traveled to Santa Monica, Calif., to begin his pre-NBA draft preparations in earnest. Rooming and working out with fellow Cougar and close friend Josh Hawkinson, the pair worked out with other NBA Draft hopefuls for three weeks at St. Monica High.

Iroegbu has had workouts with six NBA teams: his hometown Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Memphis Grizzlies, Brooklyn Nets and Utah Jazz.

Four-time time trial world champion Tony Martin(Katusha-Alpecin) rode to second place at the Criterium du Dauphine a few weeks ago. As the Tour de France approaches, the time trial specialist aims to get his hands on the yellow leaders jersey for the second time, as well as wearing it in his home country.

Martin's Canyon Speedmax is paired with a SRAM Red eTap groupset. The wireless, electronic groupset offers no gear cables, with batteries located in each derailleur.

The German opted for a 58T outer chainring for the flat Dauphine stage and it is likely we will see the same big gear in Dusseldorf. The chainrings are paired with 175mm cranks and a Quarq powermeter.

The Canyon is equipped with a Zipp 808 front wheel and a Super-9 disc rear. The wheels and the frameset both feature a custom finish. Contrasting white decal sit atop the matt black frame and carbon wheels, and finished with the rainbow stripes of the world champion. Tony Martin's name adorns the top tube with the year of his latest of four world titles to his name.

Tony Martin experienced an unfortunate incident following a saddle and grip tape combination. The result was a torn skin suit and abrasions to the German's undercarriage. Despite the experience, Martin continues the practice with his Selle Italia Tri saddle.

Part of community effort to stave off Sept. 30 closure

An Ocala Rotary Club official said on Monday he will ask the groups foundation board to back a fundraising drive to save the Newton A. Perry Aquatic Center, a facility that will close on Sept. 30 without financial help from the community.

Ocala Rotary Club Foundation President Jon Dean said he hopes the foundation will agree to launch the drive with at least $10,000. If the board agrees, he plans to challenge Marion Countys other five Rotary Clubs to join the effort to raise $1.5 million to save the complex.

Deans announcement came at the regular noon Monday meeting of the Ocala Rotary Club. The guest speaker at the clubs weekly meeting was College of Central Florida President Jim Henningsen.

The Newton A. Perry Aquatic Center is owned by the CF.In 2003, the college decided to close the pool, which was no longer needed for the colleges academic mission. But the college changed its mind and agreed to lease the facility for $10 per year to Ocala Aquatics, a nonprofit organization. The deal was that Ocala Aquatics pay the operational costs, which is about $180,000 annually. The college pays about $40,000 annually in other costs.

Henningsen told the group that the state Legislature keeps cutting the funding of state colleges and universities and that he can no longer help pay any expenses toward the pool. In the lease, the college must pay for any repair costs that exceed $2,500.

The college informed Ocala Aquatics in May that it would not renew the lease. Henningsen said the reason is thatthe 39-year-old pool needs to be replaced at a cost of $1.5 million. Henningsen told Ocala Aquatics in 2013 that the group needed to raise the money for the overhaul or he would shut it down. Since then, the group has raised only $80,000 and Henningsen decided it was too much of a safety risk to keep it open.

Ocala Aquatics officials say the pool is still operational and that the college should allow them to make repairs over the course of the next several years. Ocala Aquatics officials also said Henningsen had promised to help raise the funds. Henningsen said the CF Foundation initially agreed to help, but decided to focus on fundraising for college academic programs.

During the meeting, Ocala Rotary Club members asked Henningsen if he could extend the lease so that it would give the community more time to raise the money. After all, one member said, the community is just now learning of the crisis. Henningsen said he wishes that Ocala Aquatics would have sounded the alarm in the community four years ago.

Henningsen did say, however, that if he felt there was a solid commitment to raising the money that he would reconsider.

We dont have to have all the money in hand, but if there was a sound commitment to raising the money, we could talk more, Henningsen noted.

Meanwhile, Ocala Aquatics on Saturday also launched a GoFundMe campaign, which can be found at http://www.gofundme.com/OcalaAquatics. So far, $4,200 has been raised.

Dean said he has never been to the Newton A. Perry Aquatic Complex. He said the community needs to come together to save the facility, where 50,000 children have learned to swim over the decades. Dean can be contacted at 368-2800,Ext. 105.

Outraged at being unfairly treated by Spanish tax authorities, Ronaldo had earlier expressed his intentions to leave Real Madrid C.F. and Spain.

The 32-year-old was livid over being singled out for disproportionate treatment after prosecutors accused him of defrauding the authorities of 14.7 million euros (12.8 million pounds).

Soon after Ronaldo revealed his intention to leave the club, Zidane called the Portuguese star to discuss the announcement and find out the real reason behind his frustration.

According to Marca, the French manager told Ronaldo that the Real Madrid team needs him and his winning mentality to guide the club to many more victories.

Zidane, who is well aware of the influence that Ronaldo has on the players at the club, also expressed his confidence that the problem would be resolved soon.

It is well known that Zidane's word means a lot to Ronaldo as he was the only person who managed to convince the striker to accept reduced playing time for Los Blancos last season.

Meanwhile, Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos, who has not always been in the Portuguese's good books, also phoned his teammate in a bid to convince him to continue.

Ronaldo has helped Real win the UEFA Champions League thrice, scoring twice in last month's final as they became the first club to retain the title, and he is also the competition's record goal scorer with 105 strikes.

He has also helped his team to win two La Liga titles after joining them on transfer from Manchester United F.C. for a ten record 80 million pounds in 2009.

Theres a shelter pet out there who would love to meet you. With rescue cats and dogs, its really hard to say whether its the human being who truly saves the animal, or vice versa.

Tomorrow will see Chicago Cubs centerfielder Albert Almora, along with his wife Krystal, participate in an event entitled Intentional Walk with PAWS Chicago. The events goal is to raise awareness about the need to walk dogs at local animal shelters.

The Almoras, along with a team of Cubs front office volunteers, will visit the PAWS shelter in Chicagos Lincoln Park neighborhood and take a few of the shelter canines out for a walk. Shelter cats and dogs are much more fortunate than street animals in this sense- they have food, water, warmth and medical care.

However, animals that have found a loving home have all of that, plus social stimulation and companionship. There simply arent enough shelter volunteers to go around and give all these the animals the play time, exercise and love that they need. Shelter pets spend an overwhelming majority of their lives confined to a cage, not roaming free. Kudos to Albert Almora for doing his part, and bringing more attention to this issue.

Hes not the only Chicago athlete who loves dogs and brings awareness to their needs. USWNT and Chicago Red Stars forward Christen Press has done public service announcements, alongside her own rescue pup, for PETA. They even had a dog friendly match day event this season.

Another premier athlete who works with PETA to help canines is Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The Texas A&M alumnus sent a strongly worded letter calling out his alma mater for cruel experiments performed on dogs.

In his rookie year of 2016, Almora played 47 games, and hit .277 with 3 HRs and 14 RBIs in 112 ABs for a .308 OBP, .455 SLG, .763 OPS. This, through 54 games and 126 ABs, hes put up remarkably similar and consistent numbers.

The sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft is hitting .286 with 3 HRs and 12 RBIs for a .338 OBP, .405 SLG, .743 OPS.

With shelter dogs though, Albert Almora is proverbially batting .1000
