Nairo Quintana’s Tour de France Canyon Ultimate CF SLX – Gallery – Cyclingnews.com

Nairo Quintana (Movistar) stands 167cm high, just under 5'6", but you wouldn't know that by looking at certain parts of his bike.

Okay, so his size XS Canyon Ultimate CF SLX frame shows that the Colombian climber isn't nose-to-nose with Marcel Kittel.

But his 54t big ring, for at least some of the Tour de France stages, is bigger than that of German sprinter Andr 'the gorilla' Greipel, who uses a standard 53 these days.

Similarly, Quintana's 42cm bars are wider than the 40cm bars Greipel is using to squeeze out that last bit of aerodynamic advantage.

For a climber, you could make the argument that an open chest for unrestricted breathing is more important than a small aero advantage. Greipel's bike is set up for the final 150 meters of flat stages; Quintana's is set up for the steep mountains. In any event, most of the Movistar team uses 42cm bars.

On stage 13, Quintana went on the attack, finishing second on the day and gaining back some time on the yellow jersey. However, two days later, he lost more than four minutes to his main rivals and dropped out of the top 10. He now sits in 11th place some 6:16 behind the race leader Chris Froome.

Is Momentum Increasing for Crowdfunding Under Reg CF? – Crowdfund Insider

Posted: at 4:17 am

Recently the total amount of Reg CF (or Regulation Crowdfunding) issuers successfully funded topped $40 million. According to the data dashboard on NextGen Crowdfunding, total amount of investor commitments has now topped $46 million. The rule created by the JOBS Act that allows companies to raise up to $1.07 million kicked off in May of 2016 and is just over a year old. So how is Reg CF (Regulation Crowdfunding) fairing? Well that depends on who you ask but if you look at sector growth there are some encouraging signs.

Heading back to NextGen, if you look at the history of active campaigns as of today there NextGen tallies 125. The graph they present shows a solid recent incline.

, a full stack crowdfunding platform that lists issuers under Reg CF, Reg D and Reg A+, in a recent blog post, co-founder Howard Marks shares their Reg CF Index:

At the end of June 2017, companies have raisedover $47M in funding through Regulation Crowdfunding. The index has increased by 21%, beating the annualized compounded growth rate of 16%

There are now 29 FINRA approved Reg CF portals but the majority of the investment offers have occurred on just a few platforms. As it stands today, these are the top Reg CF portals for total raised during 2017 according to StartEngine as of June 30th:

If you jump back and look at most active platforms since the exemption became actionable the list changes a bit with NextSeed, a debt only platform, in the top four.

Out of the top ten issuers for 2017, 6 have hit$1 million (or a bit more as the SEC increased the exemption to $1.07M this year). Common stock is the most popular security followed by SAFEs and then Debt. As one may expect, most issuers are based in California followed by Texas and New York.

Is Regulation Crowdfunding picking up momentum? Yes, it appears to be doing just that but remember the industry is still quite young. So is Reg CF perfect? No, not at all. The crowdfunding exemption has a lot or regulatory requirements that act as a speed bump that probably pushed things too far. Additionally, the exemption has been arbitrarily capped at $1.07 million far too low for many companies seeking a Seed or Series A round. In the UK, an issuer may raise up to5 million (EU rules regarding a prospectus) and industry participants expect this amount to be doubled to 10 million in the near future.

But what is encouraging is that platforms are working hard to figure things out. They are experimenting and learning as to which issuers work best and how to close successful funding rounds.

Several months back one platform predicted Reg CF will top $100 million in total raised by the end of 2017. As it stands now, it looks like this prediction will come true.

A painful loss in Pittsburgh 7.16.17 – Viva El Birdos

Posted: July 17, 2017 at 4:16 am

Lineup

Events

1st Inning

Matt Carpenter started the game off right by looping a single into short CF on the second pitch he saw from Trevor Williams. Pham flew out to deep LF and Fowler worked a full-count walk, but Gyorko grounded into an inning-ending 5-3 double play. Despite facing 4 batters, Williams threw just 12 pitches.

Adam Frazier began the Pirates half in similar fashion, chipping the second pitch he saw from Carlos Martinez over DeJongs outstretched glove into short LF. Carlos struck out Jaso as Frazier stole 2B, and McCutchen followed by scorching the ball back up the middle. Wong was perfectly positioned to turn it into an easy out, but the ball struck the 2B bag on the fly and caromed into CF, scoring Frazier. But Martinez battled back, getting Bell to line out to LCF and Cervelli to ground out to 1B. Carlos was at 18 pitches. 1-0 Pirates.

2nd Inning

Molina and Wong wasted no time becoming the first 2 outs of the 2nd, Molina grounding out to 3B on 2 pitches, and Wong flying out to CF on another 2 pitches. DeJong then socked a double that one-hopped the wall in LF, and Sierra beat out an infield single. Sierra, who had been working on stealing bases in the minors, then swiped 2B with no throw, but Carlos ultimately struck out to end another Cardinal threat. Williams was still just at 23 pitches.

Gregory Polanco was all over Carlos pitches to start the bottom half, but ended up lining out to 1B. Mercer and Moroff then softly grounded out to SS. Carlos was at 30 pitches.

3rd Inning

Carpenter and Pham worked a pair of deep counts again Williams, but ended up flying out to LF and striking out. Fowler spotted a single off the end of his bat into short RF, but Gyorko grounded out to 2B, after working another deep count. However, Williams pitch count had ballooned to 44.

Williams knocked a single to RF to lead off the bottom of the 3rd. But Carlos got Frazier to ground out to 2B, Jaso to pop out to short LF, and McCutchen to strike out on a slider. He was now at 43 pitches.

4th Inning

Williams recovered some of his efficiency in the 4th. He struck out Molina, surrendered an early-count single up the middle to Kolten Wong, then cancelled him by getting DeJong to ground his first offering into an inning-ending, 5-4-3 double play. Williams was at 49 pitches.

Carlos returned the favor. He got Bell to ground out to 1B on the first pitch, and Cervelli to fly out to RF on 4 pitches. Polanco worked a full count and launched long fly ball that missed being a HR by a foot (that required a replay review) and ultimately beat out an infield single (that required a replay review.) Carlos got Mercer to fly out to deep left that required a good play by Pham in foul territory to convert. Carlos was at 60 pitches.

5th Inning

Sierra began the 5th with another infield single, and advanced to second on an incredible sacrifice bunt by Carlos. Matt Carpenter followed by working another deep count and lining an RBI double down the RF line. Pham drew a walk, but Fowler and Gyorko grounded out to cut the rally short. Williams was at 74 pitches. 1-1 Tied game.

Max Moroff socked his first career home run off the RF foul pole to return the lead to the Pirates. Carlos settled back in and got Williams to ground out to 1B, Frazier to ground out to 2B, and (after walking Jaso) McCutchen to line out to LF. He was now at 79 pitches. 2-1 Pirates.

6th Inning

The 6th started as the 4th did, with Molina striking out and Wong slapping a single past the SS. DeJong struck out on a pitch away and off the plate, but Sierra manufactured his 3rd infield single of the game, knocked down by a sprawling Josh Bell at 1B. Matheny opted to leave his ace in to bat for himself, and Carlos Martinez rewarded him with a looping RBI single up the middle, which ousted Williams from the game. Daniel Hudson relieved him and got Carpenter to fly out to deep RCF. 2-2 Tied Game.

Reinvigorated, Carlos struck out Bell on 3 pitches, got Cervelli to fly out to CF on 4 pitches, and got Polanco to line-out to LCF, aided by a wide-ranging Tommy Pham. He was at 88 pitches.

7th Inning

Tony Watson relieved next. He got Pham to ground out on a hot shot to 3B before Fowler dunked another hit into short CF. But Gyorko promptly grounded into his second inning-ending double play of the afternoon, this one of the 6-4-3 variety.

Martinez kept cruising in the 7th. He struck out Mercer, got Moroff to ground out to 1B, and carved up pinch-hitter Phil Gosselin with his 101st pitch. His afternoon was through.

8th Inning

Juan Nicasio relieved next, and tried to climb the ladder on Yadier Molina. The Cardinal captain turned the pitch around for long a home run to deep LCF, giving the Cardinals their first lead of the game. Wong flew out to CF and DeJong struck out, but Sierra stepped in a slapped a single, and this one reached the outfield grass in LF. Nicasio then gifted him third base with an airmailed pick off throw. Luke Voit pinch hit and drew a walk, but Carpenter struck out to end another threat. 3-2 Cardinals.

Trevor Rosenthal relieved Martinez. He started his inning by hitting Frazier with a 98mph fastball on his kneecap. But he regained his composure to get Jaso to bloop out to 3B, McCutchen to pop out behind home plate, and Bell to strike out looking at a 99mph fastball on the outside corner.

9th Inning

Pham led off the 9th by getting punched out on consecutive pitches inside and off the plate, but the Pirates returned the gift when Mercer let Fowlers harmless grounder go through his legs. Gyorko then lined into his third double play of the afternoon, with replay confirming Bell held his foot on the bag to double off Fowler.

With the Cardinal bullpen in flux, Brett Cecil entered to close the game out. He got Cervelli to ground the ball to SS, but DeJong could not come up with the ball. The play was ruled a single, and Josh Harrison entered to pinch run. Polanco advanced Harrison to second on a soft come-backer, and Jordy Mercer followed with an RBI double down the LF line to tie the game. Matheny opted to walk pinch-hitter David Freese, but Adam Frazier made him pay with a walk-off single up the middle. Pirates win 4-3.

Final Lines

Carlos Martinez: 7.0IP, 2ER, 5H, 5K, 1BB, 63GSc

Trevor Williams: 5.2IP, 2ER, 10H, 5K, 2BB, 49GSc

CF Industries: The Strongest Nitrogen Player – Market Realist – Market Realist

Posted: July 15, 2017 at 11:21 pm

Agribusiness Stocks: Wall Street Views before July Earnings PART 5 OF 9

CF Industries (CF) is the largest producer of nitrogen fertilizer in North America. The company also has a controlling stake in Terra Nitrogen (TNH). Together, these companies supply nitrogen fertilizer to farmers in the United States, which remains a net importer of nitrogen fertilizers.

This year, CF Industries rose to apeak of $36.9 in January. However, in the following months, its earnings and outlook failed to keep hopes high for CF Industries. YTD (year-to-date), the stock has delivered losses of 6.3%, underperforming the S&P 500 Index (SPY).

According to Reuters survey of 18 analysts, the consensus mean rating on the stock was currently at 2.5, which was similar to the fertilizer stocks we discussed previously. However, the overall recommendation on the stock for the next 12 months is a buy.

Overall, analysts recommendation on CF Industries remains unchanged month-over-month. As you can see in the above chart, two analysts had maintained a strong buy recommendation while six analysts had maintained a buy recommendation on the stock in July 2017. The number of analysts recommending a hold on the stock also remained unchanged at nine. Only one analyst had a strong sell recommendation on the stock.

Fewer analysts with a sell or a strong sell recommendationas we saw for CF Industries, PotashCorp (POT), Mosaic (MOS), and Agrium (AGU)is not uncommon, as these recommendations come from sell-side analysts.

The mean analyst price target for CF Industries as of July 13, 2017, stood at $30.7, which was to be achieved over the next 12 months. The median price target was slightly lower at $30 from the same sample of analysts surveyed by Reuters. If the current price converges to these price targets, investors would have an upside of just 1.5% to 4% on the stock.

Next, well discuss recommendations and price targets for Monsanto.

SNSP113 Gives Antibiotics More Punch Against Bacteria Often Seen in Cystic Fibrosis, Study Find – Cystic Fibrosis News Today

Posted: at 11:21 pm

Synspiras SNSP113 gives antibiotics more punch against theBurkholderia cepaciainfections that cystic fibrosis patients experience, a study reports.

The research, published inPLoS One, was titledNovel glycopolymer sensitizes Burkholderia cepacia complex isolates from cystic fibrosis patients to tobramycin and meropenem.

Lung infections caused by Burkholderia cepacia are difficult to treat in CF patients because the bacteria rapidly develop resistance to antibiotics. The result is progressive loss of patients lung function.

Burkholderia cepacia are some of the most difficult to treat infections among persons with cystic fibrosis and can result in permanent loss of pulmonary function and early death, Dr. John LiPuma, the author of the study, said in a press release. There is a tremendous need for agents that can actively target [these bacteria] and improve patient outcomes.

SNSP113 is a polycationic glycopolymers, or PAAG. It works by breaking up proteins present on the surface of bacteria, increasing their susceptibility to antibiotics.

The study showed that inhaled SNSP113 can penetrate bacterial membranes, facilitating the action of antibiotics such as meropenem and tobramycin.

Researchers said the combination therapy was more effective than combinations of the antibiotic ceftazidime against all strains of the bacteria.

The results published in PLOS ONE demonstrate that our inhaled glycopolymer drug candidate, PAAG, has the potential to significantly enhance the activity of antibiotics that are used for the treatment of lung infections caused by Burkholderia cepacia complex, a relatively uncommon but often fatal infection in cystic fibrosis, Dr. Shenda Baker, Synspiras CEO, said in a press release.

By breaking down the outer membrane of the bacteria, PAAG makes bacteria more susceptible to antibiotics, even in species that were previously resistant to antibiotic therapy. We believe that our formulated drug SNSP113 using PAAG has the potential to address a key unmet need in these types of infections and to be a new approach to the growing problem of antibiotic resistance in pulmonary indications.

The findings suggested that a combination of SNSP113 and either meropenem or tobramycin could become a reliable way to fightBurkholderia cepaciainfections and improve lung function in CF patients.

Coast-to-Coast Bike Ride, Inspired by Boy with CF, Raising Money for Claire’s Place Foundation – Cystic Fibrosis News Today

Posted: July 14, 2017 at 5:18 am

A first-graderwith cystic fibrosis (CF), Conor Fink, inspired a close family friend to hop on his bicycle and spend his summerpedaling from the West to East Coast Oregon to New York toraise money for Claires Place Foundation, a nonprofit helping children and families affectedby the disease.

Douglas Forsyths3400-mile bike journey, which started on July 9 in Portland, has its own Go Fund Me Page and its own Facebook page, which includesa complete trip routeand displays daily updates from spots whereForsyth takes a stop.

According to the latest update, posted today, Forsyth and a friend accompanying him on the trek Doug Sawyer are hoping to arrive in Idaho on Friday. Their goal is to make it toBattery Park, at the southern edge ofNew York City, on or about Aug. 5.

Forsyth was inspired to take on this fund-raising challenge by the young Fink, whose father Forsyth calls his best friend. CF, a genetic disorder, requires countless medications on a daily basis and forces patients to endure numerous treatments. He wanted to help Conor and his family.

He chose Claires Place Foundation to receive money raised because the nonprofit provides financial and other supportdirectlytopeopleliving with CF, like grants given to help with medicines and hospital bills. The foundationwas started by Claire Wineland, now 19, who has been living with CFsince birth, with the goal of aiding CF families and educating the public.

Our most recent grant was made possible in partby the fundraising Douglas Forsyth is doing, Melissa Yeager, Claires Place Foundations executive director, said in a press release. The grant was given to an11 year old boyliving with cystic fibrosis who has been hospitalized four times in quick succession and the familywas facing extreme financial difficulties as well as a move to a new city.

Without friends and supporters like Douglas we would not be able to take the huge financial burden off the shoulders of families affected by cystic fibrosis. Thank you Douglas and everyone who is helping withCycling America for CF. Your efforts are making a real difference in this familys life and more! Yeager added.

Forsyth and Sawyer plan to ride without support throughout the trip, pulling a bike trailer with necessary gear to sleep outdoors most nights. Forsythhopes to bike an average of 125 miles per day, completing the 3,400 total in about 27 days.

In the four months since the fund-raiser began, 41 people have helped Forsyth reach $4,705 of his $5,000 goal. Anyone wish to make a donation can do so through his gofundme.com page.

Claire is a author of a bestsellingbook,Every Breath I Take, Surviving and Thriving with Cystic Fibrosis, and a frequent speaker and advocate on behalf of people with cystic fibrosis.

This years festival is generously sponsored by The Advocate, Louisiana Lottery, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, Braud Company, Carline Management Co., Guaranty Broadcasting, Potash Corp.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease that causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the airways and leads to lung infections. Research funded by The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) has already made a significant impact by helping raise the life expectancy and bettering the quality of life for every diagnosed individual. This is a historic time in the fight against cystic fibrosis. Promising therapies that treat the underlying cause of CF, rather than just the symptoms, are in late-stage clinical trials. If successful, these drugs could change the face of the disease and the prognosis of those who suffer from it. While real progress toward a cure has been made, the lives of young people with CF are still cut far too short.
