CF Community Church mission trip changes lives – Myhorrynews

Posted: August 20, 2017 at 6:21 pm

Thomas Critelli went to Costa Rica to help change other peoples lives, but his was changed as well.

One of 13 people who went on a recent Carolina Forest Community Church [CFCC] mission trip, the 22-year-old said the blind faith and sheer joy of the Costa Rican people made him want that for himself.

They have so little, but they have so much joy, and they worship like crazy, and I realized I want more of that in my own life.

Faith Weaver, a rising sophomore at Carolina Forest High School, said her perspective was also changed on the trip.

Weavers father Scott accompanied the 15-year-old on this trip, which she said wont be her last.

The people are in need, but theyre so happy all the time, she said. That helped me see that in the U.S., we are so focused on things, and we are always thinking about what we need or what we want. We cant just let ourselves be happy.

In partnership with Praying Pelicans Missions, the local church has committed to making Inglesia Biblica in La Cruz its sister church, and helping it create a sports-oriented ministry similar to the one Carolina Forest Community Church already has.

Carolina Forest Community Church is at 1381 Carolina Forest Blvd. The website is http://www.carolina forest.org and services are at 9:15 and 11 a.m. Sunday mornings.

The Costa Rican church has been established for about 40 years, but when its current minister, Pastor Gerado Cerdas Rojas, came on about five years ago, attendance was down to about 10 people.

They were struggling, and we want to help them minister in their own community, said Charles Fox, family pastor at CFCC.

That churchs dream is to have a sports ministry, most likely through soccer, and thats where Carolina Forest Community Church differs from other churches. We have that here.

My dream is to see the two churches come together and utilize the same kind of ministry, he said.

Their focus is reaching children through sports, and we have that on our campus now.

Although the local church has sent missionaries to places such as Africa and Romania and closer to home in Kentucky, outreach pastor Brody Hillman said CFCC has narrowed its focus to Costa Rica because its a good fit for us.

Hillman said the church was looking for an affordable location for local church members to go where their ministry was needed, and the Costa Rican trip was $1,800 per person.

The folks who went on the mission trip raised their own money, and about $200 - $300 of it went towards a construction project in La Cruz.

The original plan was to build sidewalks, Fox said, but because of severe flooding issues, the plan changed.

The Carolina Forest group dug a trench and put in concrete piping to keep the water away from the church building.

That was, Fox said, a bigger need.

One of the most impressive events of the week-long trip for Weaver was the buying and distribution of about $1,000 worth of food to the locals in the Costa Rican village.

Weaver said they took 10 bags per day for three days to locals homes, praying with them, talking with them, and inviting them to a huge Wednesday evening meal at the church.

It was an epic feeding night with worship music and fellowship, and it was awesome, she said.

Fox said Inglesia Biblicas pastor knew none of the 100 or so people who showed up.

They were all people wed met and invited during those three days, Fox said.

Hillman will lead another trip to La Cruz Nov. 4-10, and Critelli and Weaver both plan to be part of it.

Or, text the words COSTA RICA followed by the amount you want to give to 843-353-1558.

Sometimes we think were going on a mission trip to help those people, but it was them working in and through us that helped us see their sweet passion, Critelli said.

Successfully tackling the equity markets may involve owning a wide range of stocks. Some investors may prefer growth stocks while others may opt for value stocks. Having a good mix of both types may help build of solid foundation for the portfolio. Investors may choose stocks in a specific industry that is gaining strength. If the industry is on the rise, the portfolio may be more likely to succeed. Finding companies that are considered leaders in their field may also be on the investor checklist. A company that has a large presence may help ease investor worry, especially in a down market climate. Finding the perfect stocks to add to the portfolio may not always be easy, and in fact it may be quite difficult. Investors may have to lay out goals to help keep things on track for both the short-term and the long haul.

Each brokerage research report carries with it some form of recommendation. The brokerage firms may use different lingo for their rating systems (like saying Outperform instead of Buy), but they can all be properly sorted into our 5 level classification system that is now the industry standard. Each of the 5 classifications has a value associated with it to help compute the ABR.

As the name implies the ABR will show you the Average of Brokerage Recommendations on a given stock. The benefit is that you quickly get a snapshot of where Wall Street stands on a stock without having to read a mountain of research reports.

Broker recommendations are made by brokerage firms (for example, JP Morgan) and are not an outright recommendation to buy or sell a share, but instead give an indication of how the broker thinks the company will perform relative to its sector. Their recommendations are issued over a particular period of time. The recommendations provided in the Research Centre are shown on a 75 day rolling basis. Each brokerage firm has its own way of rating that may make it difficult to compare broker recommendations between the brokerage houses.

For example, at one brokerage buy may be the strongest recommendation, while at another buy could be second to a strong buy rating. The second-highest ratings also have a number of different other names: accumulate, outperform, moderate buy or overweight.

Analysts on a consensus basis are expecting that the stock will reach $28.44 within the year.

Most recently CF Industries Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:CF) posted quarterly earnings of $0.1 which compared to the sell-side estimates of -0.08. The stocks 12-month trailing earnings per share stands at $-0.11. Shares have moved $-6.33 over the past month and more recently, $-5.2 over the past week heading into the earnings announcement. There are 6 analyst projections that were taken into consideration from respected brokerage firms.

Active investors are typically interested in the factors that drive stock price movements. Buying an individual stock means that you own a piece of the company. The hope is that the company does very well and becomes highly profitable. A profitable company may decide to do various things with the profits. They may reinvest profits back into the business, or they may choose to pay shareholders dividends from those earnings. Sometimes stocks may eventually become undervalued or overvalued. Spotting these trends may lead to further examination or the underlying fundamentals of the company. A company that continues to disappoint on the earnings front may have some issues that need to be addressed. It is highly important to make sure all the research is done on a stock, especially if the investor is heavily weighted on the name. Sometimes earnings reports may be good, but the stock price does not reflect that. Having a good understanding of the entire picture may help investors better travel the winding stock market road.

Research analysts are predicting that CF Industries Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:CF) will report earnings of $-0.53 per share when the firm issues their next quarterly report. This is the consensus earnings per share number according to data from Zacks Research.

PREP FOOTBALL: Fall River hoping to dethrown CF in conference in Zander’s third year as coach – WiscNews

Posted: August 18, 2017 at 5:20 am

A return to the WIAA playoffs last season was nice for the Fall River prep football team, but the Pirates are thinking bigger this year.

I think our team is extremely hungry to get back into the playoffs, but were really looking towards getting the first conference championship in a while, offensive lineman Keegan Wodill said. Well be battling with Oshkosh Lourdes and Cambria-Friesland for the conference championship. Were improving every single year and hopefully we can improve to a conference championship.

Fall River went 6-3 in the regular season last year, a four-win turnaround from coach Joe Zanders first season in 2015. The Pirates went 4-2 in Trailways South Conference play, finishing third behind Cambria-Friesland and Lourdes.

Several freshmen and sophomores started two years ago, when the Pirates were 1-5 in conference play, but those players are now experienced upperclassmen ready to make a run at a league crown.

We know weve got a conference championship caliber team, Zander said. Weve just got to finish and put all the pieces together.

Zander said the difference between his first two seasons was the turnover margin. The Pirates were minus-10 in 2015, but engineered a dramatic improvement last year and were plus-29.

Look at the swing, Zander said. It went from two wins to six wins. Thats why were hoping we can do a 9-0 season this year.

Its how you execute and capitalize on other teams mistakes.

The team knows it experience will be an asset.

Were not freshmen or sophomores coming in, said Wodill, a junior entering his third season as a starter. Were juniors and seniors. Were pretty much veterans with six or seven junior guys that have been playing varsity since they were freshmen. We didnt really know what we were getting ourselves into until now.

Now were starting to get the hang of it.

Zander felt his team had opportunities to win the Trailways Small last, but the Pirates inexperience hurt them in games against Lourdes and the Toppers. Fall River lost to Lourdes 28-0 in Week 3 and was blanked 20-0 by the Toppers in Week 8.

We were in that game (against CF), but it was the little things that they were able to do that we couldnt do, Zander said. Lourdes was tough for us, though, because it was Week 3 and had some key starters out. Im not saying thats the reason why, but they obviously outplayed us.

When were in situations like that, weve got to capitalize on those mistakes. We were always the ones coughing up the ball and making those mistakes. Its what separates someone from third place and first place is the team that can make the plays.

Quarterback Luke Figol, a returning starter, wants to take the Pirates further into the postseason than theyve ever gone.

Hopefully get at least to the third playoff game, Figol said. Thats my goal because thats kind of our school record. No one has ever made it there. We want to make a big impact for our school and our football program.

For all the attention paid to the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), its the S&P 500 thats relied on by insiders and institutional investors. It represents the industry standard for American large-cap indices.

The Dow is made up of just 30 stocks to the S&P 500s 500, and it uses an unreliable and outdated price-weighting system where the S&P 500 relies on market cap in weighting its returns. This is why its long-term returns is a much more reliable gauge for the performance of large- and mega-cap stocks over time.

Editorial: CF’s new campus a game-changer in Levy County – Ocala

Posted: August 16, 2017 at 6:24 pm

We join Levy residents in cheering their new college campus as well as the collective effort of all involved to make this dream become a reality.

It took 13 years. It took the unflinching commitment of an institution and a community. It took persistence and benevolence. In the end, it all came together to make a long-running dream a reality and uplift a community to where it can better educate its citizenry, young and old, and better compete in the 21st century.

Officials for the College of Central Florida gathered Friday in Chiefland to celebrate the opening of the new CF campus in Levy County. It was a satisfying event, no doubt, not just because this rural neighbor of Ocala/Marion County finally had a college campus to call its own, but because of how doggedly the college, its trustees and the Levy County community worked to make it happen.

The idea of a Levy County campus was first floated in 2004 by the CF trustees, who ordered the college staff to begin looking for a site on which to build a campus. A donation of 15 acres of land on U.S. 19 north of Chiefland by local residents Loy Ann and Jack Mann helped determine the site. The college would buy 25 surrounding acres between 2007 and 2010 to establish a 40-acre future campus.

While all this was happening, the community was raising money and the college was lobbying the Legislature for money to build the campus. The effort got a huge boost when it received a $2.5 million gift from lifelong Levy County residents and 45-year schoolteacher Jack Wilkinson in 2009.

But it was not lack of need or lack of support on the homefront that made this project so inexplicably long in coming to fruition. While CF students in Levy County attended classes in a converted Save-A-Lot grocery store that was too small, too technically inferior, too, well, beneath an instituion of CFs stature, college officials pressed their case in Tallahassee.

Despite the obvious need for a better college facility in Levy County, the project was repeatedly rejected not by lawmakers but by governors. It was vetoed twice by former Gov. Charlie Crist and twice more by Gov. Rick Scott.

Finally, in 2014, CF received its first $4.3 million in funding for the campus, which when added to the $3.5 million the community had raised, meant the campus was halfway to being fully paid for. Last year, the state came through with the remaining $7.3 million needed to complete the project.

Named the Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus, the new CF building has 44,000 square feet more than triple the space of its previous quarters with enough room for its 800-900 students, plus all its faculty. There are 292 student stations, five multi-purpose classrooms, faculty offices and a student center. It will allow for more classes to be taught and provide better resources for both students and faculty.

And a lot of credit goes to the CF trustees, who remained committed to the project despite repeated political and funding setbacks. Credit also goes to the community for working to raise money and stir support in the state capital. Of course, Wilkinson and the Manns deserve special thanks.

The Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus is a game-changer for our neighbors to the west. We join them in cheering their new college campus as well as the collective effort of all involved to make this dream become a reality.

CF experts estimate that 90 percent of patients have exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, or EPI. The disorder makes it difficult for a person to digest food.

A hallmark of CF is overly thick mucus in a number of places in the body. The pancreas produces juices that help the small intestine digest food, but thick mucus in the channels that deliver the juices to the intestine can prevent them from getting there. This means CF patients can have difficulty obtaining enough nutrients.

Those conducting the trial will tailor doses of Sollpura to individual patients needs, to try to achieve the best results.

One of the things the trial will evaluate is whether Sollpura is as good as Pancreaze, an approved treatment for the condition that is made from purified pig proteins.

Both drugs are pancreatic enzyme replacement therapies, meaning they replace enzymes the body normally producesin the pancreas.

Because Sollpura is synthetic, it is easier to produce in large amounts than Pancreze, preventing supply problems. A synthetic product also prevents the risk of contamination from a pig-associated virus or other infectious agent.

In addition, Pancreaze must be taken incapsule form to protect it as it goes through the stomach. Sollpura does not. Anthera is developing a drinkable formulation that would make it easier to give the drug to infants and children, or to patients who use feeding tubes.

We are very pleased that the European trial network has approved the design of the study, Craig Thompson, president and CEO of Anthera, said in a press release. This achievement, in combination with the earlier approval from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics Development Network, represents another key milestone for the RESULT trial.
