Board of Directors Leadership Transition

Stephen A. Furbacher has informed the board that he will retire and not stand for re-election to the board at CF Industries Annual Meeting of Stockholders in May 2022, under the general policy of the Company that no director having attained the age of 74 years shall be nominated for re-election or reappointment to the board. Mr. Furbacher will continue to serve on the board until his current term of office expires at the Annual Meeting. He has been an independent director since 2007 and served as chairman since 2014.

Accordingly, the board of directors of CF Industries has elected Stephen J. Hagge, former president and chief executive officer of Aptar Group, Inc. and current independent director of the Company, as the incoming chair, effective January 1, 2022.

In this role, Mr. Hagge will coordinate the activities of the independent directors, coordinate the agenda for and moderate sessions of the independent directors, and facilitate communications between the other members of the board. He has been an independent director since 2010, most recently serving as chair of the compensation and management development committee and as a member of the audit committee.

CF Industries board of directors has elected John W. Eaves, executive chairman of Arch Resources, Inc. and current independent director of the Company, as the incoming chair of the compensation and management development committee, replacing Mr. Hagge in that role effective January 1, 2022. Mr. Eaves has been an independent director of the Company since 2017.

The wins keep stacking up for the Camden Fairview Cardinals (6-1) after they took down the Magnolia Panthers, 44-25. at home last week.

It was a stellar night for the entire team as they are just a few games away from securing their first conference title since 2012. There were several stars on both sides of the ball that made a tremendous impact to the Cardinals' big win over the Panthers.

On the offensive side of the ball for Camden Fairview, they were able to create a highly efficient gameplan that left the Panthers unable to slow down CF's rhythm. The offense for the Cardinals, led by junior quarterback Martavious Thomas, accumulated a total of 601 yards against the defense of Magnolia.

The defense of the Cardinals knew they were in a tough fight against a Panthers' offense that could consistently drive the ball down the field. There were several defenders for Camden Fairview that made an impact with junior defensive end Kameron Easttam having a standout performance.

Thomas and Easttam are Camden News's Offensive and Defensive Players of the week.

This is Thomas' fourth-time being Camden News's offensive player of the week this 2021 season. Thomas continues to be one of the most electrifying playmakers in the state of Arkansas with his explosive and dynamic running ability. In the game against Magnolia, Thomas had a nearly perfect game by throwing for 345 yards, four touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 157.9 on 20 completions.

Thomas passed for four touchdowns against the defense of Magnolia, who failed to lock down their coverages on the deep receiver core of Camden Fairview. Three of Thomas's touchdowns were in the second half of the game to several different receivers. Thomas had a ten-yard touchdown pass to Jarvis Reed in the second quarter, a 15-yard touchdown pass to Michael Suell in the third quarter, a 45-yard touchdown pass to Reed in the third quarter and a five-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Copeland.

Thomas was highly efficient in spreading the ball throughout the field to cause chaos in the secondary of Magnolia.

On the defensive side of the ball for Camden Fairview, the line was highly active in creating multiple stops against the offense of Magnolia. While defensive tackle Mark Welch and defensive end Jacovey Barker continued to be efficient even while being focused on by the offensive line of Magnolia, it was Easttam that was the star of the defense.

This is Easttam's first time being named defensive player of the week.

The junior led the team in total tackles accounted for with seven while also accounting for one tackle for loss. Easttam has accumulated 32 solo tackles, ten tackles for loss, three sacks and two quarterback pressures in the 2021 season. With most of the pressure focused on Welch and Barker, that opened up more availability for Easttam to potentially make big stops for the Cardinals' defense. Easttam was constantly crashing into the backfield of Magnolia and put constant pressure on the quarterback.

Camden Fairview continues to show they have one of the most talented defensive line units in the conference and the region.

Nutrien NTR is benefiting from soaring fertilizer prices and a hot agriculture market. This Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) is expected to grow its earnings by 178% this year.

Nutrien is the world's largest provider of crop inputs and services. It produces around 27 million tonnes of potash, nitrogen and phosphate products world-wide.

It also has a significant agribusiness, including its retail segment, Nutrien Ag Solutions.

Weather and Natural Gas Prices Disrupt the Fertilizer Market

Agricultural fertilizers, which includes the nitrogen fertilizers of ammonia and urea, as well as potash and phosphates, have seen soaring prices in 2021.

The record prices are a result of a combination of events including Hurricane Ida shutting down nitrogen plants in Louisiana, difficulty with logistics, soaring natural gas prices in Europe leading to shutdown of nitrogen production there, and China restricting phosphate and urea exports.

The result is record high prices in some fertilizers which were last seen during the golden 2008 rally.

But this time around, these "events" which have pushed up prices, are expected to continue to impact the market until the beginning of 2022, and maybe beyond.

Several fertilizer producers, including Nutrien, closed facilities in Louisiana during Hurricane Ida. That production has slowly been coming back online.

At the same time, soaring natural gas prices forced CF Industries to shut 2 of its nitrogen plants in the United Kingdom, which only came back online after intervention from the British government.

Other nitrogen producers apparently remain closed throughout Europe.

A Fertilizer Shortage?

On Sep 22, Nutrien told Reuters that it was sold out of its potash production in the third quarter in North America even though the company increased potash production earlier in the year.

And farmers, faced with record high fertilizer prices, may buy less or change crops to try and keep fertilizer costs down which could also impact sales volumes.

Analysts Raise 2021 and 2022 Earnings Estimates

In the face of the record high prices and all the industry disruptions, the analysts are still bullish on Nutrien.

One estimate was raised in the last week for 2021 and 2 are higher in the last month.

The 2021 Zacks Consensus Estimate has jumped to $5.01 from $4.93 in the prior 30 days and is up from $3.75 just 3 months ago.

That's earnings growth of 178% as the company only made $1.80 last year as the pandemic hit.

For 2022, 3 estimates have been raised in the last month, pushing the Zacks Consensus up to $5.83 from $5.43 in the last 30 days.

That's another 16% earnings growth.

Shares at All-Time Highs

Nutrien has only been a public company since 2018, when Agrium merged with Potash to form Nutrien.

But shares are up 48.2% on the strong agriculture market and rising fertilizer prices.

This is a new high for Nutrien shares.

But for some perspective, shares are up just 28% since the 2018 merger compared to the S&P 500 which is up 60% during that time.

Nutrien is cheap, with a forward P/E of just 14.

Its fertilizer competitors are trading with even lower P/Es, however. Mosaic MOS has a forward P/E of 8.2 and CF Industries CF is trading at 13x.

Nutrien is also shareholder friendly, paying an industry leading dividend yielding 2.6%. Mosaic's dividend yields just 0.7% and CF Industries' 2%.

Nutrien will report third quarter results on Nov 1.

For investors looking for a way to play the agriculture bull market, Nutrien is one to keep on the short list.

Bull of the Day: Nutrien (NTR) - Yahoo Finance

The New England Revolution were able to walk away with another three points in Montreal.

While the Revs were putting up a goal-scoring clinic yours truly was regretting his decision to not bring a better jacket as I covered senior night girls soccer at a North Shore high school (Once again thanks to Seth Macomber for once again providing some great coverage of the match and the post-game press conference).

But with that comes a rare opportunity to look back and knowing what the scoreline looks like, take a deeper look into the game.

So lets get to our three takeaways.

1 - Gustavo Bou needs to work on his body language

While strikers always want to score goals, the body language that Gustavo Bou showed on the night is concerning.

Particularly early in the match on DeJuan Jones goal, Bou basically gave up on the play after the cross into the box wasn't going in his way. He put his hand up and completely checked out. Even after Jones scored, Bou wasnt racing over to celebrate with his teammates, he just walked back to midfield.

After Montreal was able to find the back of the net, Charlie Davies noted that too many players were walking around the pitch. While it wasnt just Bou, the striker definitely was guilty of this on multiple occasions. He also noted Bous poor body language as well.

Eventually, the strikers mood would improve as he scored a late goal that has him tied with Adam Buksa in the golden boot race, but even when Bou isnt scoring he needs to look like the exact same player and not checking out of the match.

2 - GO DJ

This was an amazing night for DeJuan Jones. Besides scoring a goal in the 10th minute, the left back had a complete 90-minute effort against Montreal.

Jones has shown his growth as a player since he is no longer a liability when he uses his left foot. He made some amazing passes and crosses and just hasn't looked afraid on the left flank.

The left back has been capable of blowing by defenders with ease and has done so well that he is even getting looks from European clubs.

Jones will be a key player as the postseason inches closer. His service into the box could be crucial if New England wants to make it to the MLS Cup Finals.

3 - Can Kap catch fire at the right time?

I will not belabor fans with the reminder that Wilfrid Kaptoum was a La Masia product and also played for Real Betis but against Montreal the midfielder was able to make an impact.

The Cameroonian didnt have a lot of time as he entered the game in the 80th minute replacing Tommy McNamara, but Kaptoum was able to secure the first MLS assist of his career six minutes later.

To Kaptoums credit, his pass to Bou was quite nice but he still has more work to do. His acquisition is still looking like a steep overpayment.

But that could change if Kaptoum is able to build momentum heading into the playoffs. Instead of just existing on the pitch, the midfielder needs to make an impact whether that be with crisp passes to get players in on goal or just making smart decisions.

If Kaptoum is able to get hot at the end of the regular season, its difficult to see any team being able to stop the Revolution.

Dodgers outfielder Gavin Lux suffered what manager Dave Roberts called a neck stinger while crashing into the centerfield wall on Wednesday night in the Dodgers 11-9 the Padres at Dodger Stadium.

Lux was trying to track down a drive by Wil Myers in the sixth inning. Lux had the ball in his glove, only to have it jarred loose just before he crashed full speed into the wall and crumpled to the ground.

After Myers triple scored a go-ahead run for the Padres, Lux remained shaken up on the field, with Roberts and trainer Yosuke Nakajima meeting him on the warning track. Lux walked off the field under his own power, but holding his shoulder as he exited.

Roberts after the game said the Dodgers have not yet run any tests on Lux, but will reevaluate him on Thursday.

Hopefully he wakes up and its not too stiff and sore, Roberts said. Typically its a couple-day thing, so well see. We wont know until tomorrow and see how he wakes up.

Lux was an infielder his entire life before getting some work in the outfield in Triple-A in the last month. Since getting recalled, Lux has started 16 of 17 games, with 10 starts in left field and the last six in center, including Wednesday, hitting .367/.466/.510.

His speed has been an asset in the outfield, but Luxs rawness has been apparent at times, too. On September 14, playing left field, he ran into centerfielder Cody Bellinger, who suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left rib. Bellinger, who was activated off the injured list for that broken rib on Tuesday, replaced Lux in center on Wednesday.

Bellinger hit the game-tying home run in the eighth inning, a five-run frame that capped the Dodgers comeback from once down four runs.

After a much-need draw last week against the New England Revolution, the Columbus Crew returns home for an all-important matchup with CF Montreal at Lower.com Field. As the season winds down and the Crew looks to push for an MLS Cup playoff spot, every game is important.

This match, however, is of huge importance as it provides the Black & Gold with a chance to take points off of a team above them in the standings. The Crew is unbeaten in two matches and has an 8-3-3 record all-time against Montreal in Columbus.

One of the bigger MLS trades this past offseason saw Mihailovic cross the Canadian border to join CF Montreal from the Chicago Fire for around $800,000 in General Allocation Money. For Montreal, Mihailovic has been worth every penny. Recording four goals and 10 assists so far in 2021, Mihailovic has almost surpassed his numbers in three years in Chicago in his first season in Montreal.

Known for his passing ability and vision in the final third, Mihailovic has thrived in Montreals system that allows him the freedom to roam and find dangerous spaces to attack. As some United States Mens National Team fans may remember, Mihailovic is capable of taking his own chances and converting them as well. Mihailovics whereabouts will be of the utmost importance to the Black & Gold on Saturday if they are to keep Montreal at bay.

How CF Montreal play:

Montreal has been one of the surprise teams in the MLS in 2021. Despite some of their off-the-field issues, Montreal has been relatively consistent and entertaining on the pitch. Led by first-year manager Willfried Nancy, Montreal is squarely in the playoff picture and looks to continue to climb up the Eastern Conference standings.

Montreals main feature is the teams athleticism all over the field. This group finds ways to highlight the teams athletic advantage and make its opposition pay dearly. The biggest way that Montreal has been able to do this so far in 2021 is in their attacking transition where they excel at attacking the space the opponent vacated after winning the ball back.

Another feature of the Montreal attack is the teams ability to attack and exploit the central part of the field. Montreal does this by positioning players to attack narrowly and create numerical advantages in the center of the park. These numerical overloads can pull opposing defenders out of position and create space to attack. This also allows the team to exploit the speed on the wings.

Defensively, Montreal is relatively simple. They do not have an all-out press on the backline, however, they do have a wrinkle or two worth noting.

The most important defensive scheme employed is trying to cut the field in half when the opponent is in possession. In essence, this means that when the opponent moves the ball to one side of the field, Montreal works incredibly hard to keep the ball from moving off that side.

This is done by moving more players into a smaller space and increased numbers close to the ball when winning the ball back. This allows Montreal to effectively create more attacking transition moments where the team is so effective.

How the Crew can win:

As mentioned, Montreal can be deadly in the teams attacking transition with speed and counter-attacking ability. Generally speaking, teams like Montreal love playing teams like Columbus because they know that they should have ample opportunities to counter attack against possession-based teams. That being said, the Black & Gold can severely limit Montreals attack if they can shut down the visitors attacking transition moments.

There are two main ways for the Crew to do this without changing the game plan. Firstly, Columbus needs to do a good job of counter-pressing to force turnovers before the opponent can get back into attacking positions. This has been a large part of the Black & Golds game under head coach Caleb Porter and will be crucial for the Crew on Saturday.

In addition to effectively counter-pressing, Columbus needs to limit bad turnovers when in possession. Black & Gold fans have seen their share of goals off turnovers this year, including one just last week. While the Crew needs to do a better job of limiting those, the team can also afford to limit turnovers in the attacking third as well. These turnovers often lead to counter attacks for the opposition.

In this match, if Columbus can do a good job of finishing attacks by recording a shot on goal or earning a set piece, that will limit the chances that Montreal has to counter attack.

In addition, the Black & Gold will do well to break the Montreal pressure when the Crew is in possession. As discussed, Montreal doesnt typically apply pressure high up the field but does a very good job of applying pressure once the ball has gone to one side of the pitch.

A huge part of the Crews offensive game plan is switching the point of attack, or moving the ball from side to side. This often causes opposing defenses to readjust and move constantly, which is very hard to do correctly every time. Montreal will be committed to keeping Columbus from doing so and looking to pin the Black & Gold on one flank of the field. However, if the Crew is able to switch the point of attack often, it will allow access to space on the opposite side, which can only be a good thing.

After yearsof fighting to have lifesaving medications covered for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients in Canada, local mother-daughter duo Beth and Madi Vanstoneare celebrating this week as the province has agreed toprovidecoverage for the expensive medication under its publicly funded drug program.

Patients who are eligible and qualify for Trikafta, a specialized CF medication, will have access to the medication through public drug programs, with eligibility criteria yet to be specified.At list price, Trikafta costs approximately $300,000 per patient per year.

"She cried when I told her!" Beth Vanstone said of her daughter's reaction to the news."I am so happy for all the lives that will be saved and changed, the weight lifted from families shoulders, it's a big relief."

A CF official agreed.

"Our community has fought hard for this day and sadly lost many loved ones along the way," said Dr. John Wallenburg, chief scientific officer of Cystic Fibrosis Canada in a news release.

"While we are pleased with the news, we also need to ensure that access to Trikafta is granted to everyone eligible under Health Canadas indications. We ask the provinces to follow Cystic Fibrosis Canadas clinician-developed guidelines and provide access to all Canadians living with CF who would benefit from this life-changing treatment," said Wallenburg.

In June 2021, Health Canada approved the use of Trikafta, but the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) had outlinedstrict criteriarecommendations for public funding togainaccess to the drug.If adopted, the recommendationswould exclude 27 per cent of the CF patient community, mostly affecting youth.

The recommendations received negative feedback from the CF community patient groups and clinicians.

The Vanstones, who are from Bradford, and Simcoe-GreyMPP Jim WIlson,met with Minister of Health, Christine Elliott last month to discuss the negativeimpacts ofadopting the recommendations from CADTH.

The trio firstmet with Elliott nine years ago when theyconvinced the Ontario government to approvecoverage for CF drug Kalyedco, after a lengthy public battle. Elliott was the provincial health critic at the time.

Had Kalydeconot been funded by OHIP,the Vanstones would need to pay$350,000 yearly for thedrug.Even with privateinsuranceand participation in a drug study, theywere looking at a cost of about $60,000 per year.

Elliott said the move is "life-changing" for CF patients.

Our government has taken urgent action to ensure all cystic fibrosis patients will have more timely access to the effective and life-changing treatments they need, Elliott said.

Providing coverage for Trikafta is one more way our government is building a sustainable, modern, and connected health care system that will expand coverage to new and innovative treatments and provide high-quality health care to patients for years to come.

Madi Vanstone, 19, will now be able to transition from her current CF drugKalydeco medication to Trikafta, as her condition has worsened over the past year and her doctors are recommending the switch.

"Trikafta is the single greatest innovation in cystic fibrosis history and it has the power to transform the lives of thousands of Canadians," said Kelly Grover, president and CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. "The cystic fibrosis community in Ontario has fought long and hard to get this drug into their hands. Access to Trikafta will mean longer and healthier lives for so many people and the ability to plan for a future that many feared they might not live to see."

According to CF Canada, itis estimated that one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has CF. More than 4,300 Canadian children, adolescents, and adults with cystic fibrosis attend specialized CF clinics.
