How to find the proper CBD dosage for you, according to medical cannabis experts – Insider
Posted: at 2:05 pm
CBD is one of more than 60 active compounds found in the cannabis plant. It's used to treat childhood epilepsy, but is also being studied as a way to manage and treat conditions including anxiety, schizophrenia, diabetes , Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis.
However, how much CBD you need for these conditions, or otherwise, is unclear. That's because CBD is not regulated by the FDA and therefore lacks any official dosing guidelines.
That said, preliminary research provides a basic understanding of how much CBD can be effective for certain conditions and groups of people. Here's what researchers know so far about CBD's dosage and effects.
Important: Unlike THC another common compound in marijuana CBD is non-intoxicating and won't make you feel "high."
How much CBD you should take depends on multiple factors like body weight and genetics. Usually finding the right dose comes down to good, old-fashioned trial and error.
However, before experimenting with different CBD doses, you should talk to your doctor since there are no regulated dosing guidelines. Plus, studies on CBD's effects include a wide range of doses, from "lower" doses of 10mg to 100 mg to "higher" doses of 100 mg to 1,500 mg, making it even more difficult to determine the proper dose on your own, says Anthony Ferrari, PhD, the Chief Science Officer of Your CBD Store, a nationwide CBD retail and research company.
How much CBD is in a drop of CBD oil? CBD oil typically comes in dropper bottles with a single drop containing about 0.05 ml. A product's packaging will tell you how much CBD is in the bottle, which can help you determine how much CBD is in a single drop. For example, if a 20 ml bottle containing 2,000 mg of CBD contains 400 drops, then each drop would contain around 5 mg of CBD.
Further muddling the dosing equation is the fact that some CBD products, known as isolates, contain only CBD, while others are "full-spectrum" and contain other cannabinoids, like THC. The additional cannabinoids in full-spectrum formulas might modulate CBD's effects, thus altering how much you need to take, Ferrari says.
Clinical trials on CBD are limited and existing studies use a wide range of doses to treat various conditions. Here's what we know so far:
Studies examining CBD's effects on anxiety use varying doses, typically ranging from 400 mg to 600 mg per day. In a small 2017 study, test subjects reported reduced anxiety after taking a 300 mg dose of CBD.
In a couple of small studies, CBD doses ranging from 600 mg to 1500 mg per day were shown to reduce some symptoms of psychosis due to schizophrenia.
CBD is generally considered to be safe and well-tolerated in doses up to 1500mg per day. While there's a real risk of fatal overdose when using drugs like opiates or alcohol, taking too much CBD is more likely to result in sleepiness and perhaps an upset stomach.
Side effects are typically mild and include:
In rare instances, CBD could cause liver damage. A 2019 animal study found that liver damage occurred when mice were given high doses of CBD the human equivalent of 200 mg of CBD per kilogram of body weight. It's not clear if these findings are applicable to humans.
"If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking any other medications, you should discuss your CBD journey with a primary care physician, Ferrari says. "Everyone experiences the effects of CBD differently and you should always monitor your body's reactions."
Warning: Taking CBD in addition to other medications that cause drowsiness like benzodiazepines, antipsychotics, antidepressants, antihistamines, or alcohol may lead to increased drowsiness, accidental falls, or accidents while driving.
Emerging research suggests CBD is a promising and low-risk treatment for a number of conditions but like all medications, you need to be cognizant of dose. Because there are no regulated dosing guidelines, it's especially important to talk to your doctor before starting a CBD regime.
"Maintaining open communication with your physician is the key to overall success when first incorporating CBD into your routine, especially for those with complicated health issues," Ferrari says.

CBD solutions: These 7 people say CBD saved their lives – Chiropractic Economics
Posted: at 2:05 pm
Christina DeBusk August 5, 2021
People use cannabidiol (CBD) for many reasons. Among the numerous CBD solutions for health care issues, in a 2019 Gallup poll, the main purpose cited for its use was nonspecific pain (40%). This was followed by using it to help relieve anxiety (20%), sleep issues or insomnia (11%), and arthritis (8%).
While easing any of these issues can help improve quality of life, some CBD users credit this cannabis extract with actually saving their lives. Here are seven such stories involving the use of CBD to help resolve major physical and mental health conditions in a life-saving way:
In a June 15, 2021, post, Nashvilles Fox 17 News reported that Macario Morgan was born having 200 seizures daily. Doctors tried to relieve these seizures with seven different medications and by removing almost half of his brain. His mom, a molecular biologist, decided to remove him from all of these meds and use CBD instead. Now she says that her son is a normal 5-year-old boy with no developmental deficits, causing her to fight for a changing attitude toward CBD solutions so people recognize its medicinal value versus connecting it to the stigma associated with marijuana.
On June 5, 2021, Newshub published another story of a child facing major health issues. In this case, it was a 6-year-old boy in New Zealand with epilepsy. Like Macario Morgan, he was experiencing seizures, some of them rather severe and painful. CBD oil seemed to ease these seizures, even allowing the child to sleep through the night. This story made the news because the boys family was having a hard time getting his CBD into the country due to both legislation and the costs of importing this cannabinoid.
A Nov. 20, 2015, story posted by WTMJ-TV out of Milwaukee starts by sharing that Sally Schaeffer lost her daughter in 2014 to a rare form of epilepsy after experiencing seizures every half hour. Schaeffer wanted to keep other children from losing this same battle, which is why she and other mothers and grandmothers were working to lobby for states to legalize CBD. This would make it more accessible to families and, more specifically, children who could benefit from its use.
Forbes shared a story on Aug. 8, 2020, about a documentary called CBD Nation. One of the stories presented involved Rylie Maedler who, at 7-years-old, was diagnosed with a degenerative disease in which tumors started to eat away at her facial bones. Seven years later, and after using cannabis and CBD, Maedlers bones regenerated, making her the only person known to have this occur.
In an April 18, 2019, post on Marie Claires website, Gretchen Lidicker reveals that she had long struggled with anxiety, even as far back as kindergarten. While exercise, meditation, and dietary changes helped, a hot chocolate drink containing CBD was able to ease her anxiety enough to make her want to learn more. So, she took her two science degrees and did her own research, experimenting with different dosage amounts along the way. She also started to play around with different ratios of CBD to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive substance most commonly associated with marijuana use). Now she uses CBD solutions for other issues as well, such as applying a topical version to help relieve her neck pain from sitting in front of a computer screen for long hours.
On Dec. 10, 2020, Cannabis Health published a story of a man named Adam who was experiencing muscle soreness and fatigue after working out. Typically, he would reach for a pill to deal with the pain but started researching CBD after a colleague shared that it helped his dad deal with knee injury and inflammation. Adam started using it and found positive results, soon realizing that it also helped ease his anxiety and even cleared his skin. CBD made such a huge difference in his life that it has become a regular part of his everyday routine.
On Feb. 9, 2021, Golf 365 shared Chris Bibbys story, which involved placing at a golf open on the European Tour in the late 1990s only to take himself to a motorway bridge several years later in an attempt to commit suicide due to being in constant pain after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. After being unable to get out of his electric wheelchair and cross over the above-road barrier, Bibby started taking CBD, which he credits with not only saving his life but also saving his career.
Cannabidiol is a fantastic compound, but its becoming confusing to the general public, says Antony Llewellyn, founder of cbdporter.co.uk. As the market is widely unregulated, consumers need to make sure they do their research before purchasing CBD products. Make sure they have passed third party lab tests including CBD/THC content.

We independently source all of the awesome products and experiences that we feature on Thrillist. If you buy or book from the links on our site, we may receive an affiliate commission which in turn supports our work.
We're the first to admit that shopping for CBD products can be a bit intimidating. There are seemingly countless brands out there, with new ones popping up overnight at a steady clip. Sorting the good stuff from the not-so-good stuff can not only be tough, but downright expensive when you consider what you might spend comparing different producers.
So, if you'd like to cut right to the chase and pick up some solid products from a trusted brand while saving a bit of money, we've got you. Our pals at Cornbread Hemp are celebrating National CBD Day a bit early this year (it's August 8, by the way) by offering Thrillist readers a special code that unlocks a 25% discount for new customers.
We've covered Cornbread Hemp a bit before and raved about its Whole Flower Oil for its stress reduction and sleep enhancing benefits. But the brand has been hard at work on a variety of new products over the past year including certified USDA organic gummies and topicals, and has doubled down on its commitment to producing hemp flower-only, full-spectrum CBD offerings. Much of what it makes is also vegan-friendly, including its CBD oils, gummies, and Balm stick.
While we'd certainly advise having a look through the brand's full lineup of products, we've also plucked out some of its best-sellers in case you're looking to see what other users are consistently stocking up on. Here are the items that regularly fly off of Cornbread's figurative shelves:

The rise and rise of the Indian hemp industry – Mint Lounge
Posted: at 2:05 pm
One question commonly posed to entrepreneurs selling hemp-based products is: Will this get me high? The query could be for any producthemp oil, seed, powder, even a T-shirt made of hemp. The answer invariably is no, which may come as a bit of a disappointment to some. But the question is an indication of the confusion that still surrounds hemp, a plant that is currently fuelling startups and e-commerce in India at an unprecedented rate.
At least once a week, someone will ask, Will I get high with this? Even with paper, soap, with whatever we make. Is soap a code word for something? they ask, says Elston Menezes, one of the founders of Bengaluru-based B.E Hemp, which sells hemp-based products such as soaps, food, stationery and accessories. I then send them a picture of the soap.
Yash P. Kotak, one of the six (initially seven) founders of Bombay Hemp Company (BOHECO), which sells nutrition and personal care products, and its director of business development and media, has had a similar experience. If I wear this shirt, will I get high, thats their question. Its a great ice-breaker thoughno cotton shirt company will get asked that question.
When we first started, says Rohit Shah, co-founder of Hemp Horizons (their products go under the brand name Health Horizons), we got calls from people who would place an order. Then they would ask, Can I put it in a vape and smoke it? Send in discreet packaging. But the audience has evolved from that stigma. Today we see (people of) ages from 25-60 placing orders on our website.

Hemp products were one of the few categories that benefited during the pandemic. Entrepreneurs say the lockdown gave consumers the space to focus on health. They looked for better experiences with food, nutrition, alternative curative methods and therapeutic products that would help with anxiety and pain relief. They sought more sustainable brands, shifting to vegetarianism and veganism. Once e-sellers overcame issues with supplies and deliveries in the early days, business started picking up.
Both hemp and marijuana come from the Cannabis sativa family of plants. Both have tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC, the psychoactive component which provides the sense of euphoria or intoxication) and CBD (cannabidiol) with many other compounds. CBD is an oil extracted from the leaves, stem and flowers that acts as a painkiller, muscle relaxant and mood enhancer. Regulated industrial hemp plants in India contain primarily CBD and its extracts usually contain less than 0.3% THC, which does not give you a high. Supply is controlled by the government, with only a handful of companies having an Ayush licence to manufacture hemp thats supplied to retailers.
Hemp products from Health Horizons.
Founded in 2017 as a contract manufacturer that supplies to wholesalers and other edible hemp brands, Hemp Horizons has gone from processing 500kg to 4,000kg (of edibles) in 12-18 months. It recently raised 2 crore in seed funding from Mumbai Angels Network and AngelList. Medicinal startup HempStreet got $1 million (around 7.4 crore) in pre-series A funding in February 2020 led by Pharmacon Holdings, a US-based pharma-tech company, and Romain Barberis, a private investor in cannabis in the US and Canada.
Business blossomed during the lockdown, says Jayanti Bhattacharya, co-founder of Bengalurus India Hemp & Co. The first time (lockdown in 2020) was insanesome factories were looted in the north, material got stuck. We had no control and things escalated so fast. But collectively, a lot of our processes fell into place. We came out shining, with no corners cut.
Since 2019, over 50 firms have registered with the word hemp in their names, says Kotak, while Shah says the number of registered startups rose from eight to over 100 in 18 months. Rohit Sharma, president of the non-profit Indian Industrial Hemp Association, put the number at around a hundred as well. Interest in CBD peaked in September last year, according to Google Trends. A lot of people were waiting for companies like ours to see the resulting effect. The first one out of the door is the first to get shot, you know, says Kotak.
According to Shah, roughly seven-eight years into its modern commercial existence, the hemp industry in India is worth $2-3 million. With entrepreneurs evidently ready to brave the odds that come with low awareness, be it among farmers or consumers, and limited production and marketing avenues, Shah optimistically predicts this will grow to $500-700 million over the next few years.
Its the responsibility of any company making hemp products, such as hemp oil, to sell correctly labelled items.
The global hemp industry was estimated at $4.71 billion in 2019, according to the Industrial Hemp Market Size, Share And Trends Analysis report published in February 2020 by US-based Grand View Research. The market is driven by the growing demand for hemp oil and fibres in the automotive, construction, food and beverage, personal care and textile industries, especially in emerging regions such as the Asia Pacific, the report states.
UP IN THE AIR
Indias complicated and enduring connection with cannabis extends through history, mythology and religion. Its mentioned as one of five sacred plants in the Vedas and is a staple during the festivals of Holi and Mahashivratri in north India. We came across a statistic that shows 60% of districts had wild growth of cannabis, says Kotak.
Yet, though the plant originated in the Himalaya and Central Asia, the modern-day cannabis market is only about 30-35 years young. For once cannabis was classified as a synthetic drug in the US, which made it illegal in 1970 and later banned it, it came under the spotlight in India too. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 bans the flowering or fruiting tops of the cannabis plant (ganja) but excludes seeds, stalks and leaves. Bhaang is a paste made from the leaves, so its not outlawed. The confusion, says Shah, is that bhaang was never illegal. It has a religious association and Ayurveda has 190 formulations that have cannabis as a key ingredient. CBD oil does not come under the NDPS Act either.
Through all the ups and downs, however, the unorganised recreational cannabis industry never really faded away. After the NDPS Act, it just slipped under the radar. Shah believes India has about 38 million active recreational users.
Things began looking up again when the US, in a 2018 Farm Bill, decided to allow hemp cultivation, sale, possession and transfer of hemp-derived products. Now, like yoga and golden turmeric, the moment the US brings it back, India jumps on the bandwagon, says Bhattacharya.
Uttarakhand became the first state to permit commercial cultivation of industrial hemp, in July 2018. The Indian Industrial Hemp Association became the first to cultivate hemp legally there. Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected to follow suit but at present Uttarakhand remains the sole local supplier.
Last year, the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) voted to remove cannabis from Schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. India supported the move, fuelling hope that it would join the global movement to realise the medicinal and commercial potential of cannabis, Forbes reported in April.

Sharma says the debate centred on the cases involving actors Rhea Chakraborty and the late Sushant Singh Rajput last year helped revive conversation in the media. Cannabis has been in India for long, he says. The hype is more of an international thing. Cannabis-based homoeopathy and Ayurveda is an age-old practice. Its just an old thing that has been rebranded, like yoga.
However, it becomes the responsibility of any organisation working with hemp and cannabis products to uphold the sanctity of working with this plant by selling licensed, correctly labelled products, emphasises Kotak. Only if you play by the book will you be able to add a moral at the end of the story.
JOURNEY INTO THE UNKNOWN
When India first locked down in March last year, says Menezes, they were thinking of closing B.E Hemp. His two partners had other businesses; he didnt. So he kept going. Soon, with shops shut, they started getting calls for rolling paper. One call turned to five to hundred and a thousand, which kept our company afloat, says Menezes.
They ran out of rolling paper and had to buy from others. That is when they realised it was the best time to pursue the idea of becoming the Amazon of hemp. They developed new products, like a line of hemp soaps. We get a decent number of orders for rolling paper while we have branched to CBD, he adds.
Hemp, which has a short, summer crop cycle and uses just about half the amount of water that cotton does, makes for a sustainable crop. Every part of the plant can be used, for food (nutrient-dense seeds and oils), medicinal use, fibre, paper, fuel, construction (hempcrete), animal food, bedding, even as a biodegradable alternative to plastic, says Bhattacharya.
Hemp seed is supposed to be high in omega 3, 6, 9, vitamin B12, vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, iron, protein and zinc.
Hemp powder can be used to make rotis, pastas, bread, smoothies. Hemp seed is supposed to be high in omega 3, 6, 9, vitamin B12, vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, iron, protein and zinc. Hemp repairs you internally and externallyfrom muscle, skin to internal organs, claims Alysa Decruz, who co-founded Hempwise in Goa with husband Terence Sequeira in 2018.
Its a superfoodon steroids. It helps with chronic ailments, sleep management and arthritis that dont have simple cures. (There are) multiple reasons why its in the forefront, says Shah over the phone from his residence in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The company is based in the National Capital Region.
For the three Hemp Horizons foundersShah, Kartikey Dadoo and Kanishk Yadavthe inspiration for their company came from what they saw in the US. When they were studying and working there a decade ago, they initially found yoga studios everywhere. Then cannabis made a comebackfor its benefits, not just as recreation. It was an epiphany for us that bhaang should not be a Western product alone. That had us start this, says Shah.
Convincing parents was the first challenge. They asked: Are you going to be a drug dealer? remembers Shah, laughing. The partners started showing their families videos of Baba Ramdevs Patanjali, which spoke of the benefits of cannabis. They shared information about its uses in Ayurveda and Jatiphaladi churan, which has cannabis powder as an ingredient.
Shalini and Jayanti Bhattacharya, co-founders of India Hemp & Co.
About four years ago, Bhattacharyas sister and business partner Shalini, who shuttles between Bengaluru and Barcelona, Spain, developed back pain. They went through the rounds of MRIs, scans, pursued treatment in Ayurveda, acupunctureit didnt help. She had just decided to live with it when someone suggested CBD. I could see the change in her, says Jayanti, who worked in advertising before she turned entrepreneur. In four months, she was fine, with no needles, machines needed. The sisters lead outdoorsy lifestyles and stick to plant-based diets. India Hemp & Co. was the 10th hemp brand to begin in Indiain November 2019, a few months before the first lockdown.
Menezes, who grew up in Kuwait, thought of weed every time he heard of cannabis. He knew about hemp but his perspective changed when a friend from Nepal brought him a hemp wallet that blew his mindhe had never seen one. One of his first thoughts was a question he now parries himself: Will it get me high?
Thats what people have been asking us for the past eight years, he says, laughing. Cannabis is not as bad as people think, then why so much hatred towards it? This has helped me in college with creativity or depressionit has never given me any negative emotion.
Keen to promote every aspect of cannabisindustrial, recreational and medicalhe started by spreading awareness through their portal. They found people were curious about products, so they added items like key chains, wallets, purses and bags, all made of hemp. We started too early in the cannabis industry. It took us a long time and we are still growing, he says.
For others, like Kotak and Decruz, life and work took them to places where they could see hemp all around them. In 2011, Kotak, for example, was working on a social enterprise rural project of solar electrification, visiting villages in north and north-west India where he saw hemp being used for subsistence, for cattle, for food, just as the villagers forefathers had done. The users found no economic value in cannabis, globally a trillion-dollar super-crop.
BOHECO, set up in 2013, spent the first five-six years aligning science and policy, Kotak says. In April 2017, the countrys first research licence was issued, allowing the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine to collaborate with BOHECO in growing cannabis and studying its medicinal properties. They opened their first store in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, this April.
Yash P. Kotak (standing, left), one of the founders of BOHECO, with his team.
Cannabis comes with a preconceived notionyou have to unlearn and relearn about the crop, says Kotak, whose firm started making products in 2018. We launched a 100% hemp shirt. When we did a survey before, we asked about cannabis clothing and people said what came to their mind was a Bob Marley T-shirt. How do you get rid of the clich?
BOHECO, which employs 28 people, pivoted from fabric to health and nutrition from 2019, with BOHECO Life. This led to nearly 100% growth from year 1 to 2, with 42% repeat customers, says Kotak. Their revenue of 4.5 crore in the last financial year was largely an outcome of this change in strategy.
Decruz and Sequeira ran a bed-and-breakfast facility for five years in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, with hemp growing wild everywhere. In 2014-15, they decided to experiment, so they got an oil machine, pressed oil and used it for everythingfood, bathing products, and more. They used hemp for pizzas, dough, salad dressing and made bullet coffee with CBD oil. Hempwise was born after they moved to the village of Parra in north Goa. Their two-room facility on the ground floor of their apartment complex produces items that they used to sell through Friday night marketstill the lockdown earlier this yearand to some cafs and stores.
KNOWING THE PRODUCT
Most hemp entrepreneurs say that apart from policy, awareness is a challenge. Few farmers grow hemp because science has not kept up with policy. They say that finding the right agencies, buying raw material, procuring licences for retail and knowledge about machinery continue to be problem areas. Marketing is tough. Facebook, for instance, does not allow advertising of hemp products. Amazon does not sell them. Supermarket chains like Foodhall and Big Bazaar do not store them. Social media blocks mention of hemp, says Menezes, even while advertising notebooks and beanies. You have to depend on word of mouth, on influencers.
A customer at a BOHECO store,
We never faced any backlash from authorities or people because it was all legal, he says. Most products are sold online, though some are available in stores as well, like BOHECOs in Bengaluru and Saukhyam in Porvorim, Goa, that stocks India Hemp & Co products.
The expectation is that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will soon classify hemp as food. Once the FSSAI comes into play, everything will open up, says Shah. The Great Legalisation Movement India, a non-profit research organisation, is leading a mission to legalise cannabis. The smaller entrepreneurs know that conglomerates like Dabur, Himalaya, Tatas and Patanjali are waiting to jump in.
With cannabis, people think of one thing, says Menezes. We want them to understand that its multifaceted and can expand into 30,000 different, eco-friendly, sustainable products. Besides food, hemp has found its way into gin (Samsara) and vodka. One firm has made motorbike exhaust mufflers with hemp that absorb more carbon, says Shah. Menezes is planning to produce hemp shortsa plan that has been delayed by the pandemic.
During the first lockdown, when people called me, 20 minutes into the conversation the last question would be, Will I get high? When the answer was no, they would say, I will buy it for my mother, says Bhattacharya, laughing. But the questions she faces most often are whether the products are preservative-free, where they are sourced from, and whether people can grow hemp at home. People want to know how to use it. We were making salads but consumers still needed their sambhar, idli, appam and stew. We have gone south, integrated hemp into Indian cuisine, because you cannot make brownies and souffle every day.
I need to do a mosquito repellent because thats so apt for Goa, says Decruz, smiling.
Menezes has plans for franchises. Sequeira wants to create a hemp hub that has a caf, infused food and a four-course meal with a spa for massages. Shah is aware that he is building a category, not a company. Uttarakhand as a Himalayan state had a cultural and social relationship with the plant, says Shah. Technocrats and bureaucrats have grown up around the plant; they have an idea of its uses and potential. But in five years the industry has not grown tremendously because of lack of scientific precedence. For a crop to be a commodity, there has to be significant plant research and science with standardisation. Nevertheless, he predicts, There will not be a single industry left untouched by it.
Hemp users and sellers praise its properties. Decruz mentions a girl who used expensive steroids for hives. It didnt work. With Hempwise soap, her skin cleared. She has seen it work for acne, with wounds, and on pets. Customers also love Sequeiras pesto hemp pastas, one with sun-dried tomatoes and another with basil and vegan Parmesan. With food, he says, I want a full infused menu. Its healthy eating that takes you on a different journey. Make it an experience. But when you get up, you should be able to walk home.
Almost on cue, Decruz quickly makes it clear what he means by adding the company motto: Soak it but dont smoke it.

U of I to offer hemp course – Alton Telegraph

CHAMPAIGN Looking for a new career path? Think hemp.
The University of Illinois sees a booming future in hemp-growing.
Dr. D. K. Lee will teach a 400-level online course on hemp cultivation for students, farmers and anyone else who would like to know more about the crop.
There are opportunities for small farmers, small indoor growers and big growers, Lee said. There is so much misinformation. This course is designed to teach students cannabis biology for proper crop-management practices.
After being banned by the federal government in 1970, the industrial production of hemp in Illinois was made legal again in 2018 when the legislature approved it. For several years now, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been promoting the growing of industrial hemp, Lee said.
Hemp is used in hundreds of different products from textiles and construction materials to animal feed and skin care lotions based on cannabidiol oil.
Hemp is used to reinforce concrete and other construction materials. Textile manufacturers use it to produce durable fabric. It is used to make paper. The seed has high protein and high oil concentration, making it very good for animal feed.
I see big opportunities if Illinois approves hemp seed for animal feed, Lee said.
He said he believes that more Illinois farmers will come to use hemp as a crop that they rotate with corn and soybeans.
Another promising use for hemp is making biodegradable plastic. Plastic made from petroleum does not decompose when it is thrown away. The alternative is natural plastic or bioplastic.
Unfortunately, bioplastic does not have the strength of petroleum-based plastic. Reinforcing bioplastic with hemp can give bioplastic the durability that it lacks.
Hemp fiber is very strong. We can reinforce bioplastic with hemp fiber and it would be very beneficial for human society, Lee said.
When farmers today ask him if they should start planting fields of hemp, Lee says he hesitates. There are a number of considerations. Farmers can only grow hemp plants with very low levels (0.3 percent) of THC.
THC is the chemical that gives users the high that recreational marijuana users seek. If a farmers crop in Illinois exceeds the governments very low 0.3-percent THC limit, the whole crop would have to be destroyed.
Another hurdle for Illinois farmers who are considering growing hemp is lack of processing facilities, Lee stated.
Some other states are already processing the fiber. Other states have approved using hemp grain as animal feed, he said. Growing hemp for animal feed is not too much different than current agricultural practice. We can plant the hemp and use a combine harvester for the seed. That is an easy process.
For indoor operations, there are a lot of job opportunities, Lee says. However, there is also a steep learning curve. Growing hemp to produce CBD oil is nowhere near as simple as buying petunia plants to get flowers, Lee said.
It is very complicated particularly if you are growing indoors, he said.
People can currently sign up for Lees online class: Crop Sciences 480: Cannabis Classification and Management Crop Sciences. The class will provide basic information about plant biology, seed selection, fertilization, nutrition, humidity control and the tricky process of light management for indoor growing. The cost for the three-credit class is $1,200.

5 Best CBD Oil for Anxiety – Sequim Gazette
Posted: July 27, 2021 at 1:21 pm
Are you always feeling excessively agitated or worried about a situation? If that is the case, you may be experiencing anxiety and depression. Of course, there are many other symptoms to watch out for before deciding that you are really suffering from anxiety.
Generally, these symptoms can take away the joy in your life. No one wants to always be worried; that is why you need the best CBD oil for anxiety. Such CBD oil can work wonders in helping you relieve some, if not all the symptoms.
CBD oil tinctures from brands such as CBDfx, Joy Organics, SpruceCBD, and many others have been positively reviewed to show they can actually work. Even when you are looking for such oils for your anxiety disorder, stick to the recommended brands. That is what we look at in this guide.
You would generally feel comfortable knowing that the CBD products you are using for anxiety and depression have scientific backing. The good news is that CBD can help with anxiety. You just have to use CBD correctly to enjoy the benefits.
So far, a few articles on Healthcanal.com show how CBD products can be good for social anxiety disorder and PTSD too. The same could also help relieve insomnia as well if used in the right amounts. We all know that PTSD and anxiety can affect your sleep quality.
This is especially for those who experience negative memories and nightmares, leading to waking up at night and having trouble going back to sleep. So, other than using traditional medications, you can also opt for CBD to relieve the PTSD symptoms.
A study on a group of people who usually experienced social anxiety disorder was given 400 mg of CBD. This was in 2011. The participants generally experienced lowered anxiety levels after using CBD.

Even though CBD Pure is a relatively new company, it stands out for its quality of products. Since it sources its hemp from Colorado for its full-spectrum CBD oil, you can be sure it is generally the brand you want to be using.
The company offers up to 3 strengths of CBD oils for anxiety. The strength is indicated as mg of CBD per bottle. So, you can always know which product you are buying for depression and anxiety.
Anxiety or any other mental health issue could use a stronger potency. So, go for the CBD Pure hemp oil 300. It will have a potency of around 10mg of CBD. There is the other option of using the 20 mg potency bottle. It is the strongest of them all.
Based on the lab results, these medically reviewed CBD oils are free from any contaminants and artificial ingredients. These are what other brands may be using and might compromise your health. You never have to worry about that when using CBD oil from CBD Pure.
The CBD oil from this brand is gold in color. This is a common color, especially for the oil extracted through using the CO2 extraction method. You may also like the earthy smell of the oils. Also, the taste is not as tart as those made using other extraction methods.
Click here to get the best deal on CBDfx
For over six years now, CBDfx has been making the best CBD oil in the market. This includes full-spectrum CBD oil made for anxiety and depression. It may be why more people find it their top choice to buy CBD oils for anxiety from the brand.
As much as you may not get THC-free CBD from the brand, the overall concentration is within the recommended limits. Thus, CBD oil will be good for both post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Other options also include CBD isolate as part of the products. The isolate can also have many benefits, including calming you down. Other benefits of CBD oil would be relieving other conditions you may be experiencing other than anxiety.
Since each product has lab results, the user can learn everything about CBD oil before buying. Such lab results are vital to show the overall transparency of the company. Also, the brand maintains that its production of CBD oil is done in cGMP-compliant facilities.
As much as having many products on its catalog can confuse some newbies, that should not be a problem. Many people will quickly understand once going through the description. This includes even the concentration, which is 16.29 mg of CBD per bottle of 30ml.
Click here to get the best deal on CBDmd
CBDmd is another most talked about brand in the CBD industry. It does not get popular because of poor quality CBD products, but rather the opposite. The company is U.S Hemp Authority certified, making it a top destination for those who want CBD for anxiety since they can trust it.
The CBD oils from the brand are many. They are offered in terms of potency, formulation, and flavors. So, you should have whatever variety you want to experience better effects of CBD. Since there are up to six strengths of CBD oils, you can pick the most recommended when you experience symptoms of anxiety.
Anxiety can also affect your sleep. The same as obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, CBDmd makes specific formulations to help you achieve certain goals. So, you can get some oils laced with melatonin to help with sleep and anxiety.
There are multiple flavors too. They include berry, mint, peppermint, and orange. You could still opt for the unflavored earthy taste of hemp seed oil. The CBD oils with the highest potency come in natural and berry flavors. The others will have a variety of flavors.
The use of MCT oil in the products helps deliver the oil faster to the body. This means you can get faster results generally.
Click here to get the best deal on Spruce CBD
The Spruce CBD oil product is mostly recommended for anyone who wants to experience more therapeutic effects of CBD. Well, that definitely includes those who might have anxiety disorders.
The brand boasts of using full-spectrum CBD extract to ensure you get a wide range of cannabinoids and terpenes too. As such, the full-spectrum hemp extract leaves you feeling good in the end. You can start feeling the relief within 30 minutes of using the CBD oil.
Since Spruce CBD sources its help from Colorado and Kentucky, there is assurance such hemp sources would be the best. Even when the products are manufactured, they are medically reviewed at a third-party lab. Such transparency is what you need when buying CBD products.
How about the potency? The Spruce CBD oil comes with an average concentration of 81.87 mg of CBD per bottle of 2400mg. This should be a nice concentration to help deal with anxiety symptoms. This is better than when using CBD isolate products.
You will also enjoy the taste too. Some of the flavors include peppermint. This flavor is good to mask the overall hemp seed oil taste. You could still get CBD oil with no flavor if that is what you need. It may have a little bitter taste though.
These anti-anxiety CBD oils are also within the affordable range for most people. So, there is no reason you are missing out on Spruce CBD.
If you want to find other reputable brands, browse around this journal Seattle Weekly.
Click here to get the best deal on SunMed CBD
Even though some people may not have heard of SunMed CBD, it is a top brand you should consider buying your next batch of CBD oil. This brand is known for having options such as full-spectrum CBD oil and broad-spectrum too. Such makes it possible for you to get the best CBD products.
Its full-spectrum oil is best recommended for those suffering from anxiety disorders, chronic pain, inflammation, insomnia, and stress. You can easily see why more people would buy from the brand when looking for relief from various conditions.
Even though CBD oil would be great for all the mentioned conditions, you still need to stick to the right dose. Yes, even when treating anxiety. If you can use CBD oil correctly, you will not experience any side effects.
The brand uses U.S grown hemp, making it a trustworthy company. This is because such a hemp source has to live up to stringent measures in the U.S, ensuring quality is also consistent. That is how its products always contain less than 0.3 THC content. Some are even THC-free.
You can still get other products from the brand if you have to deal with other conditions. Such include creams and water-soluble CBD you can use in making meals.
Since you now know the importance of using CBD oil for anxiety disorders, you may be wondering just how much of it will be enough.
It does not matter whether you are using broad-spectrum CBD or any other type; you are advised to keep the dosage between 25 to 175mg. However, you will find most doctors advising you to stick to 25mg of CBD per day.
Only those who have a problem with sleeping can use broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD in higher doses. For them, it can go as high as 300 mg.
Insomnia or sleep disorder is something that affects millions of people around the world. Since people do not want to be addicted to prescription medications, some have started looking for other options to treat insomnia and social anxiety.
A couple of studies show that when you use CBD in high amounts, it may help with sleep disorders. That is why you may see CBD oil for sleep as a sought-after product today.
When a person is given a CBD dosage of 160 mg, the participant would experience increased sleep duration. That is why you would be advised to take at least 40mg of CBD if you want to sleep better.
The cortisol levels are known to also affect your sleep. Since it is a stress hormone, you do not want it to be at its peak when you need some sleep. Anyone suffering from insomnia would experience high levels of cortisol at night.
CBD interacts with receptors and chemicals in the brain responsible for producing a good nights sleep. CBD reduces REM sleep time, which is a sign of better sleep quality, meaning more NREM or dreamless sleep. NREM sleep is a time when mental and physical healing takes place. With CBD intake, you will find yourself more relaxed and sleep quality much better.
CBD researchers found that participants who used up to 600 mg of CBD enjoyed better sleep. This is because CBD affects the amount of cortisol released in the body, thus sedating their bodies for better sleep.
The use of either full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD oil has been on the rise. That is not going to slow down any time soon. As such, you may as well as also join others to use CBD oil for treating anxiety.
We have mentioned above more about the various brands you could use for finding the right CBD oil to handle anxiety or sleep. More brands include Joy Organics, Charlottes Web, and NuLeaf Naturals. So long as you can use the recommended dose, you should be good. Go ahead and give it a try to see how CBD oil helps with anxiety.

Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil : What They Are and Why It Matters… – marketscreener.com
Posted: at 1:21 pm
Cannabidiol (CBD) is becoming more mainstream, and as research and CBD-based products become more available, the easier it'll be for people to obtain them. And as more people get involved with or develop an interest in CBD, the easier it is for facts to become distorted and for misconceptions to occur.
One of the most common misunderstandings is hemp oil vs. CBD oil and whether they're the same thing.
CBD oil and hemp oil are not the same, mainly because hemp oil contains no CBD content. Additionally, hemp oil comes from cold-pressed hemp seeds, while CBD oil extracts CBD compounds from hemp plants' stalks, leaves, and flowers. But when comparing hemp oil vs CBD oil, you'll find that each has a unique set of benefits.
There's much confusion about the connection between hemp oil and CBD oil because the terms are often used interchangeably on several products. In many cases, hemp oil is rightfully used to refer to CBD oil.
But hemp oil is also frequently used to refer to hemp seed oil. And hemp seed oil is an entirely different product from CBD oil. While both come from Cannabis sativaplants and have beneficial effects, they are created differently and have different uses.
With this article, we'll discuss the following:
By gaining a deeper understanding of the difference between hemp oil and CBD oil, you can be assured that you're choosing the better product for you and your needs.
Hemp seed oil is a natural supplement that contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, B vitamins and vitamin D, and other nutritional antioxidants. Although its efficacy isn't entirely clear, hemp seed oil is usually eaten to maintain cardiovascular health.
Studies and anecdotal evidence suggest that hemp seed oil is useful for improving total cholesterol levels, high and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides. Other uses of hemp seed oil include constipation relief, better skin, improved gastrointestinal health, and a stronger immune system.
Because hemp seed oil serves as a great source of nutrients, it's typically added to other edible products like cookies, yogurts, loaves of bread, and snack bars. Consuming hemp seed oil is proven to be safe. There have been some consumer reports of digestive issues from using hemp seed oil, but it's not a common effect.
Hemp seed oil comes from the seeds of hemp plants. Manufacturers typically make hemp seed oil by cold-pressing Cannabis sativaseeds and refining the oil extraction. The process usually includes cleaning the seeds before pressing them to oil.
Because it's made from seeds, hemp seed oil doesn't have a cannabinoid profile. It contains no terpenes nor cannabinoids - more importantly, no traces of THC at all and zero CBD. Hemp seed oil is useful mainly as a dietary supplement or as a food oil.
Compared to other food-based oils, hemp seed oil contains high levels of polyunsaturated fat and small amounts of saturated fat. However, there are other ways to use hemp seed oil than just cooking with it.
Other than the nutritional values mentioned earlier, hemp seed oil also offers a few more different uses - mainly in skincare and PMS relief.
Research says hemp seed oil can help people with eczema; the study found that it may improve symptoms of the condition, including itching and dryness. According to the study, this response occurs from the effects of hemp seed oil's omega-6 and 3's fatty acid.
Cannabis sativais a natural source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which scientists have found can reduce inflammation that occurs with menopause. And studies suggest that hemp seed oil can help alleviate PMS symptoms by lowering the prolactin hormone.
Hemp seed oil contains many factors that separate it from CBD oil:
While CBD also has beneficial uses, it works entirely differently with the body compared to hemp seed oil, and it's made from another extraction method. But what is CBD, and how does it compare to hemp seed oil?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid naturally occurring in Cannabis sativa; it's an organic chemical that comprises about 40 percent of industrial hemp. It has no intoxicating properties, so it cannot induce any 'high' or euphoria.
CBD works by stimulating the endocannabinoid system- a biological structure common in all vertebrates. This system helps maintain homeostasis, the human body's natural balance of physical and chemical systems when responding to various physiological conditions.
Within the endocannabinoid system, CBD molecules attach to CB2 cannabinoid receptors that are connected to the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The PNS includes various organs and systems, such as the immune system, muscles, skin, and limbs.
CBD is typically the active ingredient in CBD oil. Still, depending on which CBD oil you're using - either broad spectrum, full spectrum, or CBD isolate - it may contain other cannabinoids that work synergistically with CBD, boosting its effectiveness.
CBD oil makers extract CBD from the leaves, stems, flowers, and stalks of matured hemp plants - not the seeds. And there are several extraction methodsused for pulling CBD from hemp material, including solvents, carbon dioxide, dry ice, and olive oil.
Once the CBD is pulled, manufacturers have to infuse the isolates into a carrier oil, so it's safe for human use. And most reputable makers of CBD oil use MCT oil as a carrier because of its benefits compared to other edible oils.
The quality of CBD oil is often influenced by how the CBD is extracted from the hemp material. And because CBD is harvested from the whole hemp plant, the extraction typically contains terpenes, cannabinoids, and other essential oils that, together, generate the entourage effect.
The entourage effect means that cannabis compounds, including CBD and other cannabinoids, have a greater impact when working together than individually.
The terpenoids assist the cannabinoids with their peak effects, and other cannabinoids like cannabinol (CBN) and cannabigerol (CBG) help boost the effects of CBD.
With the entourage effect, the CBD formula in hemp-based oils works better as a whole than each ingredient would alone. And you can only gain benefits from the entourage effect from broad spectrum or full spectrum CBD oils - not from hemp seed oil.
We mentioned earlier that CBD stimulates the CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the endocannabinoid system to help sustain homeostasis. CBD offers various effects depending on how people, especially older adults, use it.
For instance, consumer reports and studies imply CBD is useful for stress. In fact, CBD for stressis the number one reason most people begin using it. And researchers have explored CBD's potential to lower stress responses by affecting the blood vessels and blood pressure.
Another reason for the rising interest in CBD oil and its benefits is how it affects sleep. But if you're questioning, 'does CBD make you tired,' it isn't the CBD by itself that causes sleepiness.
CBD sleep aidstypically combine CBD with a natural sleep hormone called melatonin - along with a blend of other sleep-inducing ingredients. Individually, CBD helps create a sense of calm and relaxation without making you feel groggy. It's the melatonin and other elements that allow you to drift asleep naturally.
Similar to hemp seed oil, CBD oil can also be a useful topical but for a different reason. While hemp oil from crushed cannabis seeds helps maintain unclogged pores and relieve dryness and itch, CBD oil works with CB2 receptors located in the skin to help alleviate minor discomfort and aches.
Although topical CBD has a different purpose than hemp seed oil, there is favorable research exploring CBD as a skincare option. And more beauty products such as face creams and moisturizing lotions containing CBD are starting to emerge.
CBD oil's characteristics make it far from identical to hemp seed oil:
The straightforward answer is no. It doesn't matter how many brands are intentionally or mistakenly mixing up the terms 'CBD oil' and 'hemp oil' to sell cannabis-infused products; these two substances are not identical.
But then why would sellers market the terms as the same?
The main reason would be that CBD oil and hemp seed oil come from the same cannabis family, and for some manufacturers and users, that's all they care to know. And without a decent grasp of the differences between the two, products are often labeled the same.
Another reason is that companies know how much more money consumers are willing to pay for CBD oil. Because of its sophisticated extraction process, CBD costs much more to extract than hemp seed oil.
It isn't too hard for a company to spend less to extract hemp seed oil, put it in a product, and brand it so that consumers believe they're buying a CBD-infused item when there's no CBD in it at all.
Conversely, some brands may market their CBD products as hemp oil to circumvent federal regulations. Many of these rules sharply limit how companies can advertise CBD oil.
The best way to determine what you're buying is to check the ingredients list. CBD oils typically list their main ingredient as cannabidiol, broad spectrum hemp, full spectrum hemp, or hemp extracts. And hemp seed oil usually says it contains Cannabis sativaseed oil.
Although both come from Cannabis sativaplants, we've covered many differences between the two:
Hemp Oil (Hemp Seed Oil)
CBD Oil
Low cannabinoid profile
Uses a carrier oil
Offers mostly nutritional benefits
Generates the entourage effect
Extracted from crushed hemp seeds
Extracted from whole cannabis plant
Used mainly for cooking and skincare
Contains cannabinoids and terpenes
An abundance of fatty acids and protein
Works with the endocannabinoid system
Offers several benefits (sleep, stress, discomfort, etc.)
Offers several benefits (sleep, stress, discomfort, etc.)
And they also have their similarities: they're non-intoxicating, can be used topically or internally, offer wholesome benefits, and are oils. That's hemp oil vs. cbd oil in a nutshell.
However, you may still have a few more questions when asking, 'Is hemp oil the same as CBD oil?' So, take a look at some of the most common questions we've answered when discussing the difference between CBD oil and hemp oil.
There are several beneficial applications for hemp oil because of all the nutrients it contains, including
Dermatologists have noted that hemp oil can help improve the skin because of its fatty acids. Furthermore, hemp oil helps strengthen skin, making it more resistant to infection and other skin conditions.
Typically, omega-3 fatty acids are made into supplements to help lower blood pressure, making hemp oil a natural alternative for hypertension because of its abundance of omega-3s. Hemp oil also contains high levels of linoleic acid, which research indicates can substantially reduce low-density cholesterol, better known as bad cholesterol, and total cholesterol.
Yes, there have been no reports of any adverse effects from people using hemp oil and CBD oil together. Many CBD products are designed to be used with other CBD and supplemental products to offer a complete wellness routine depending on your preferences and needs.
Hemp oil does not have any CBD content. The main difference between hemp oil and CBD oil is that hemp oil is created from hemp seeds, which usually don't naturally contain CBD or other cannabinoids. On the other hand, CBD oil utilizes CBD and other cannabinoid compounds through various extraction processes.
Hemp oil is usually taken orally, but it can be helpful as a topical to promote healthier skin, hair, and nails. People have also used hemp oil for culinary purposes, incorporating it in bread, yogurt, and cookies because of its nutritional value.
Hemp oil is useful for many applications. For instance, you may choose to use hemp oil for food preparation because of its highly nutritious profile. Others may use hemp oil more directly, such as orally or topically, if they're searching for natural alternatives for skin improvement, better heart health, and lower blood pressure.
There has been no direct link between hemp oil and weight gain or loss, even though hemp is a natural appetite suppressant. However, CBD oil is often helpful for either a pre-or post-workout option to help with recovery or temporary discomfort.
Hemp oil doesn't contain any active ingredients that make people sleepy or affect their natural sleep cycle. But, if you're choosing between hemp oil and CBD oil, various CBD sleep aids contain melatonin and promote better sleep habits.
