Hemp, CBD, And Marijuana: Know The Difference And Legality – Legal Scoops

Posted: February 28, 2022 at 8:40 pm

You may have heard restaurants or bars using CBD gummies to improve the taste of their beverages, and you might even have seen CBD in a few late-night TV commercials. But what is the difference between hemp, both CBD and marijuana?

Hemp, CBD, and marijuana products have their own set of rules.

Although these plants are grown in different areas and have other properties, they are all cannabis (one genus), which means they all fall under the same legal scheme.

So, do you know the difference between hemp, CBD, and marijuana? Are you aware of the legality of each?

Its easy to get lost in all the terminology, but this blog article will help you understand these substances.

Hemp, CBD, and marijuana are all terms that get thrown around a lot. They are available in your local grocery store or on your favorite website. Some people think that hemp is the same as CBD, and others believe its the opposite but are they? Heres a quick guide on the differences between hemp, CBD, and marijuana and how theyre regulated.

hemp products: seeds, hearts (shelled seeds) and protein powder

Hemp is a cannabis plant form that gets stripped of its psychoactive content. It is the common name for any plant genus Cannabis or its preparations.

The Hemp plant comes from the family Cannabaceae, including marijuana (marijuana); however, it is not a psychoactive substance. Despite being closely related to marijuana and hemp, they are distinct species with essential differences.

It contains deficient THC levels and can be used to make food items. Its seeds are also the best source of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids for health.

CBD (cannabidiol) is a legal cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. CBD oil and CBD gummies are for children with epilepsy and other health conditions.

It is cannabidiol (CBD) in high concentration, containing little to no THC, which may get ingested without any psychoactive effects or feelings. It comes from industrial hemp, a product made from the hemp plant. It gets sold as an oil or in capsules, sprays, and edibles.

It can make it an appealing option for medical use in many states that have legalized medical or recreational cannabis.

Marijuana is the dried leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. It is commonly associated with a cannabis Sativa plant (marijuana). The main difference between the two plants is that marijuana has a higher level of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), making users feel high, whereas cannabis Sativa does not have this. However, it can be smoked or eaten in food form.

The active ingredients present in marijuana are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which alters brain function and produces a high feeling, and cannabidiol (CBD), which has non-psychoactive properties such as relief from anxiety or inflammation.

Marijuana, hemp, and CBD refer to the same plant Cannabis sativa. Some people think these three terms are synonymous, but they arent.

Marijuana is any segment of the cannabis plant that contains a high concentration of the psychoactive chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Hemp and CBD do not contain THC or less THC, but instead, another cannabinoid called cannabidiol or CBD.

Hemp can get used in products that are not psychoactive. CBD, or cannabidiol, is the non-psychotropic compound found in hemp that people use for medicinal purposes. Marijuana is a plant with high THC levels (the compound that causes psychoactive effects), and its illegal to use hemp or CBD in products containing marijuana.

Since there is so much confusion about hemp, CBD, marijuana, and CBD gummies, we have compiled a list of the differences between these four substances.

1st- Hemp gets never smoked, while CBD doesnt contain THC.

2nd- Hemp is from the cannabis plant, but less than 3% THC.

3rd- Marijuana contains THC, which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, which causes the high.

4th- The difference between CBD and marijuana is that cannabidiol or CBD does not produce a high because it doesnt contain THC.

The Legal Status Of CBD When it comes to the legalization of hemp, marijuana, and cannabis oil, there are some key differences.

Marijuana is a schedule 1 drug in federal law. It has a high potential for abuse, has no currently accepted medical indications or uses, and is unsafe for use even under medical supervision.

However, marijuana can be prescribed by a doctor in some circumstances, but many states have now passed laws that allow doctors to prescribe marijuana for patients with specific medical issues.

And since marijuana is still federally illegal, any organization selling hemp products must register with the DEA and abide by their strict regulations on how much THC (the ingredient.

Hemp is not a schedule 1 drug because it does not have the same high potential for abuse as marijuana and does not have any currently accepted medical indications or uses. Therefore one can legally sell hemp in all 50 states under its own states laws.

It is a strain of cannabis that has less than 0.3% THC and can get used for all of its industrial purposes (food, clothing, building materials).

The only psychoactive ingredient in hemp is cannabidiol (CBD), which occurs naturally in the plant and is non-psychoactive.

CBD is also a schedule 2 drug, which doesnt contain more than 0.3% THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana). It can therefore get legally sold.

However, if you have CBD oil as a prescription and decide to try it in some form or another since there is no way to buy CBD oil in the USA legal markets (typically only found online), you will be breaking federal law by doing so.

With recent medical and recreational marijuana legislation in the United States, knowing the difference between hemp, CBD, marijuana, and CBD gummies is essential. Hemp is a type of cannabis plant that contains low concentrations of THC (the chemical that causes euphoria). Hemp is used mainly for its fibrous stalk to make things like paper and clothing.

Marijuana is a cannabis form with high concentrations of THC. However, hemp is a strain of the Cannabis sativa plant that contains low concentrations of THC, a chemical that makes people high. CBD comes from hemp. CBD gummies are candy with a small amount of CBD in it.

While CBD is a cannabis-derived compound legal in most countries, cannabidiol (CBD) treats various illnesses and has no psychoactive effects.

So, CBD gummies are not illegal and cannot get you in trouble for possession. Hemp-derived CBD products tend to be legal in most states because hemp is a food product, but those with illegal THC levels are still unlawful.

Meditating with CBD: Can It Enhance Your Meditation Practice? – Health Behavior News Service

Posted: at 8:40 pm

Sometimes, life can kick you pretty hard. With so many stimuli around us, its difficult to maintain a clear head if you dont get enough sleep, nutrition, and physical activity.

Chances are, you have been suggested to practice meditation, which is a great way to put your mind into a state of balance and remain resistant to daily stressors. But did you know that adding CBD to your meditation routine can help you achieve even better results?

CBD and meditation is hot topic these days. Overworked professionals, athletes, travelers, busy parents everyone can benefit from this combination.

The key to successful meditation is to calm the mind and relax the body at first so that you can focus inward, which is what CBD seems to do best.

In this article, we dive deep no, not in ourselves. We dive deep into using CBD and meditation together to take care of your mental well-being. Well cover the basics about meditation, how CBD may help, and how to use CBD oil to maximize the benefits.

When most people try to picture meditation, they usually see a yoga master sitting on a cushion in a Shiva-like position, trying to ooom the heck out of himself. But the truth is, real meditation is far from that.

Meditation is a mental practice to put a person into a state of focus, relaxation, and awareness. From a metaphysical standpoint, its a tool to transform the mind and become enlightened.

Meditation occurs in every culture over the world, dating back to millennia. Most religions, including Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, and even Islam, have some sort of meditative regime. And while meditation is rooted in spiritual practices, most people today use it to relieve stress and unwire the mind from the aforementioned stimuli.

There are three main types of meditation: mindfulness, transcendental, and guided meditation.

Mindfulness is a concept that encourages being completely present at the moment with your thoughts. The purpose of this type of meditation is to become aware of what you are feeling and doing as you sit and breathe to let the thoughts flow through your head without triggering any reactions.

If you get distracted by external noise or get caught up in the chatter in your head, mindfulness will recalibrate your attention to the moment, focusing on even, deep, rhythmic breathing.

Although you can practice mindful meditation virtually anywhere by simply staying in the moment, the best conditions to meditate this way are while sitting or relaxing in a quiet room with eyes closed, where you can control your breath.

Transcendental meditation involves using a mantra, which is a sound, word, or short phrase that is repeated in silence or out loud to keep the distractors away. Most people practice it twice a day, seated in a relaxed position, with their eyes closed. The mantra makes it easier to enter an introspection and quiet the mind while keeping the stress at bay, resulting in a deep state of relaxation.

Guided meditation uses stories, situations, mental images, or visualizations to relax and make you feel focused. For example, imagine youre sitting in a pine forest, listening to birds and feeling the wind slowly touching your cheeks. This type of meditation is often conducted by a mentor during a live or recorded session and spurs you to use all of your senses as you try to imagine the scene, including views, sound, touch, and smell.

Before you ditch the idea of meditation because you consider it too alternative, think about it this way: even modern science agrees that by meditating 10 minutes a day, a person can help increase their ability to relax while reducing stress, anxiety, and even regulating blood pressure.

Meditation is exactly the opposite of stress. It can trigger and boost our relaxation response, helping the body achieve homeostasis. This not only relaxes our minds and helps us focus, but it brings back the so much needed balance in the body, allowing our systems and organs to effectively maintain their function and repair from the physical damage caused by stress.

If youve heard of the fight or flight response, you know that our bodies can be put in a state of alertness at the first signs of threat. While that threat may no longer be a predator watching you as their prey, our daily lives are chock-full of stressors that keep us constantly alert, even if we think theres nothing to worry about.

These days, our minds race, and our bodies are overwhelmed by stress, pains, and tension.

Consistency in meditating not only helps us stave off the state of permanent stress and find a way to calm down, but it also helps us become less reactive and calmer on a daily basis. Meditation also facilitates positive thinking and makes us more adaptable and resilient.

CBD and meditation go hand-in-hand. CBD has a myriad of positive effects on our body and brain, all of which can improve your meditation routine. So, if youre wondering if CBD can help you meditate, then the answer is a straight yes.

Your body naturally produces a neurotransmitter called anandamide. It works on demand, meaning that your body doesnt constantly produce it, nor does it store the compound for later.

Scientists have linked higher levels of anandamide with increased happiness and reduced cortisol, keeping the flight-or-flight response in check. This neurotransmitter belongs to a class of compounds known as endocannabinoids; theyre an essential part of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which works constantly to promote a state of balance to the body and mind.

When youre constantly stressed, your body may become deficient in endocannabinoids. In fact, clinical endocannabinoid deficiency is proposed as the underlying cause of many autoimmune diseases as well as psychiatric disorders.

When you take CBD, it signals the ECS to produce more anandamide; it also inhibits an enzyme that breaks it down, making it more available for the body.

As a result, you can return to homeostasis more efficiently, especially if you combine CBD supplementation with meditation. When youre in the state of flow which is what meditation does to your mind your body naturally produces higher levels of anandamide.

Thats what makes this combo so effective.

This is paramount, especially if youre just getting started with meditation and wish to extend your practice time. CBD oil has been shown to improve concentration by acting on GABA receptors, calming an overactive nervous system. This, in turn, allows you to remain in the zone for longer and resist random thoughts that would otherwise cause you to fall out of that balance.

If your mind is full of worrisome thoughts and anxiety, youll have a hard time trying to sit still and enjoy 10 minutes of undisturbed silence. Studies are showing that usingCBD oil for anxiety can directly lower blood pressure and thus facilitate slower breathing. This, in turn, stimulates your parasympathetic system, which is responsible for feelings of calm and relaxation.

Meditation is all about improving your mood by achieving a state of balance between the body and mind. CBD oil helps you stay calm and improves the production of serotonin in the brain. This, in turn, elevates your mood and helps you maintain longer meditation periods. Like everything else, meditation is a skill that takes time and practice to master and the more you practice, the better your mindfulness meditation will get.

If you live with a disability, chronic pain, or an inflammatory condition, high-quality CBD oil for pain can help you ease the physical discomfort by reducing inflammation and mitigating pain transmission from the neurons to the brain. Yoga and meditation can have short-term and long-term benefits for conditions involving chronic pain. CBD, on the other hand, can help relax tense muscles and reduce soreness, improving your range of motion and the ability to sit still for a while.

Ready to combine your meditation mantra with CBD supplementation? Here are a few great options if youre looking for everyday support:

CBD and meditation can significantly improve your well-being if youre consistent with your routine. However, keep in mind that these are just tools for balancing your body not quick fixes or magic pills that will do wonders to your health overnight.

Here are three things you need to know about before practicing CBD and meditation.

This is true for all things in life, and CBD is no exception. Although the current body of scientific research on the health benefits of CBD oil looks impressive, the vast majority of studies were conducted on small samples or animal models. Theres also a plethora of anecdotal evidence from CBD users claiming that CBD oil and meditation helped them alleviate certain conditions. But the truth is, results vary depending on a person. Some find that CBD helps them get rid of anxiety before work, while others use it to induce focus and creativity. There are also people who claim that CBD simply makes them drowsy. Youll need to try different doses at different times of the day to figure out how CBD affects you.

CBD is a complex compound, so you may not see the results from the start. It has an interesting way of working with the endocannabinoid system; the more you take, the more receptive your body will become to it. This phenomenon is known as reverse tolerance. Depending on your levels of endocannabinoids and the scale of deficiencies, you might need anywhere from two weeks to a couple of months of continuous CBD use in order to experience its benefits.

CBD wont turn you into a meditating rock thats wishful thinking. Meditation is a process that takes time and effort, especially if youve never meditated before. Although CBD can help you enter a more relaxed and stable state, it doesnt mean it will magically make you the master of meditation. Instead, consider looking for different guided meditation apps and videos, and being regular with your sessions.

Modern life puts us into all kinds of discomfort. Physical and mental fatigue can be difficult to overcome if you dont find the right solution to maintain the balance between the body and mind. Whether you live an active lifestyle or sit at a desk all day hunched over a keyboard, meditation can help you relieve tension and soreness, putting you into a state of deep relaxation.

Not only that, but meditation also relieves stress and anxiety by regulating your breath and improving awareness while keeping anxious thoughts at bay. Its no wonder why so many people become interested in this practice.

You can boost your wellness care in many ways, but when it comes to meditation, CBD is a perfect partner. By interacting with your endocannabinoid system, CBD can reduce pain, relieve stress, ease anxiety, dampen inflammation, and elevate your mood with consistent use.

This, in turn, provides complimentary benefits for those who meditate in the morning or before bed.

Can I Take CBD and Magnesium Together? – Health Behavior News Service

Posted: at 8:40 pm

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is used as an adjunctive treatment for a variety of health problems, including pain and inflammation. It has a very good safety profile in most illnesses.

Magnesium is an essential mineral that can be beneficial for treating migraines, hypertension, bone density loss, and more.

Since both compounds use different mechanisms of action, theres very little chance that negative interactions will occur.

As of today, there are no reports with complaints about taking CBD and magnesium together.

In this article, we provide a general breakdown of the dos and donts of CBD and magnesium supplementation.

No, theres no evidence supporting any kind of interactions caused by taking CBD and magnesium together.

Certain conditions call for a higher intake of magnesium for only a short period, so the chances of interactions between the two substances reaching toxic levels in the blood are extremely low.

However, if you want to take CBD and magnesium in tandem, you should still do it with caution. Magnesium may impact the absorption of CBD in the digestive system, thus compromising its efficacy.

To avoid this potential side effect, its best to take magnesium supplements around 2 hours apart from your CBD oil.

I wouldnt consider it in that manner because CBD and magnesium are completely different supplements.

Magnesium is a crucial mineral used in more than 300 enzymatic processes in our bodies. CBD is a cannabinoid extracted from hemp and interacts with the human endocannabinoid system (ECS) our major regulatory network that promotes and helps maintain homeostasis.

For most applications, you cant use CBD instead of magnesium. You can however use CBD for certain medical conditions that magnesium is also recommended for.

If you suffer from a magnesium deficiency, CBD wont solve the problem, but if the root cause of your health problems is somewhere else, CBD may significantly assist you in treating these conditions more than magnesium supplements.

Given this, its better to include both supplements in your daily routine to achieve a more holistic effect than if you took either one individually.

Just make sure not to take them at the same time this is to enable maximum absorption of both compounds.

You can take CBD and magnesium to ease the following health conditions:

Magnesium is the go-to supplement for treating migraine headaches. Many people with migraines have low levels of magnesium, so adding this supplement can lower your migraine headaches.

CBD has also been highlighted as an effective treatment for migraines and other forms of headaches, including cluster headaches and hangovers.

While its unlikely that CBD alone will prevent or erase your migraines, it may reduce the duration and severity of these attacks not to mention concomitant problems like insomnia, nausea, vomiting, and sleep disturbances.

Again, patients with depression usually have low magnesium scores on their tests, so supplementing it can alleviate the symptoms and help enhance mood in depressive patients.

CBD acts on the 5-HT1A neuro-receptors in the brain, which helps the body use serotonin more efficiently and thus produce an anxiolytic and antidepressant effect.

Magnesium has been proven to decrease the risk of getting a stroke, ischemic and coronary heart disease, metabolic disorders, and hypertension.

In one study, CBD demonstrated remarkable antioxidative properties, translating into better cardiac function. Its anti-inflammatory effects also help reduce the risk of cardiac diseases.

Magnesium can regulate the neurotransmitters directly related to the brain, hence the potential in treating insomnia.

CBD may also improve sleep on top of helping regulate the sleep-wake cycle and is more tolerated than conventional sleeping pills.

If you want to ensure the proper breakdown of glucose in the body, you need to control your magnesium levels. Having a good amount of magnesium in the diet may help prevent type 2 diabetes.

CBD can offer metabolic support as well. These properties stem from the cannabinoids interaction with the ECS. The ECS is strongly related to liver and pancreas health both of which are mentioned in the pathophysiology of diabetes.

When your body lacks magnesium, it can further create problems with bone health, namely osteoporosis in the body. To prevent this condition, dieticians recommend supplementing with magnesium. Its one of the most popular supplements for menopausal women for this reason.

Again, with CBD, its the interaction with the endocannabinoid system that improves bone health by increasing bone density and reducing inflammation in the body.

Seizures caused by conditions related to pregnancy like eclampsia can be treated with magnesium sulfate, a compound containing magnesium. Its a common supplement in magnesium-deficient people.

CBD-based medications, such as Epidiolex and Satives, are approved to treat a wide range of seizure disorders thanks to their anticonvulsant and antispasmodic properties.

Magnesium is among the essential macrominerals that we need to survive and thrive in good health. It can be obtained from different kinds of foods, supplements, and even medications.

The most common indication for taking magnesium supplements is magnesium deficiency, but it can also be prescribed for problems like constipation, arrhythmias, heartburn, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, and more.

Magnesium engages in more than 300 unique enzymatic reactions within the body. They range from liver metabolism to cellular replication and hundreds of different processes in between.

Your muscles and nerves, blood pressure, immune function, bone health these are just some of the essential functions that magnesium can help control.

The body needs magnesium to properly manage several physiological functions.

Its distributed to the soft tissue, skeletal muscle, bones, and extracellular fluids. The regulation of magnesium levels occurs through an interaction between absorption by the bone, intestinal absorption, and renal absorption (or excretion).

Magnesium facilitates ion transport and helps maintain the balance across cellular membranes. It also controls the uptake and release of calcium, controlling its metabolism as the calcium channel competitor.

The mineral also can induce muscle relaxation and reduce spasms by stopping the contraction caused by calcium in the smooth muscles and acetylcholines actions on the junctions between the muscle and nerves.

Magnesium supports over 300 enzymes in triggering different processes in the body. It also contributes as a cofactor to enzymatic actions in various bodily activities from building proteins to regulating glucose levels to building bones, controlling blood pressure, and maintaining muscles and nerves in a good condition.

Another aspect of your health that can benefit from magnesium supplementation is the actions of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) glutamate receptors, which are required for learning and memory formation.

Overactive glutamate in the brain can lead to anxiety, depression, and seizures. Magnesium can block the action of glutamate in the NMDA receptors potentially preventing or treating depression.

If you have a magnesium deficiency, you may experience the following symptoms:

Magnesium can be used to treat cardiac arrhythmias resulting from hypomagnesemia, seizures triggered by eclampsia, constipation, heartburn, migraines, and nephritis.

Despite a decent safety profile, too much magnesium taken for a long period such as 350 mg daily can cause dangerous buildups that are responsible for many nasty side effects, such as:

Several studies demonstrated that CBD is effective in treating a wide range of symptoms and diseases.

However, like most other therapeutic substances, it can interact with other medications when administered together.

These effects occur due to the chemical nature of these supplements. Therefore, taking CBD with other drugs should be carefully monitored by your doctor.

There are three mechanisms that CBD uses to interact with other drugs, including:

This type of interaction means that two compounds show the same effect in the body. When taken together, they act on the same or different receptors. However, their effects have the same directions.

Medications that can enter agonistic interactions with CBD are:

This works in an opposite way to the agonistic interaction.

Antagonistic interactions occur when two drugs have opposite effects on each other. When taken together, one compound may invalidate the effects of the other, lowering its efficacy.

Examples of antagonistic CBD-drug interactions include:

Some meds require similar enzymes to metabolize the drug molecules. It results in competition between both drugs; they act against each other and cause a slowdown of the metabolic rate of both drugs.

Medications prone to metabolic inhibition when taken with CBD include:

CBD and magnesium use completely different mechanisms and, in theory, shouldnt interact with one another.

However, there are no proper clinical trials and studies examining the potential interactions, nor do we have reported documentation of the side effects by users who have taken them in conjunction.

If you regularly use magnesium and want to add CBD to boost its benefits for a specific health disorder, you should consult it with your doctor before buying any CBD product.

However, if you take both supplements for the sole purpose of supplementation, theres little to no risk of using CBD and magnesium together.

Just make sure to leave a 1- or 2-hour window between each dose; otherwise, magnesium may negatively impact the absorption rate of CBD in the digestive system.

If you experience any adverse reactions after taking CBD and magnesium, stop using them and wait for a few days to see if the symptoms are gone. If they persist, visit your doctors to figure out the potential cause.

Are CBD Oil Benefits Too Good to be True? – We Heart

Posted: February 24, 2022 at 2:36 am

Its only been a few years since CBD became a household name. At the time, it faced three significant obstacles. The first was scepticism, and rightfully so. Many supplement vendors and enthusiasts made several health claims before preliminary research had a chance to address them. Complicating matters was the lack of quality control, which fortunately improved as companies became more competitive.

CBDs second barrier was its stigma. CBD comes from the cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa L.), often used interchangeably with marijuana (cannabis exceeding 0.3% THC). But with cannabidiol reaching mainstream use, most people now understand that hemp CBD (cannabis with less than 0.3% THC) isnt intoxicating.

Finally, there wasand still isa regulatory concern. While some states, like New York, will regulate the hemp CBD industry following legalisation, these supplements are still unregulated at a federal level. Consequently, the medical and scientific communities are hesitant to give CBD its due credit.

So are CBD oil benefits too good to be true, or are the naysayers right? The simple answer is yes and no. Lets see what the long answer tells us.

In most cases, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) frowns on CBD supplements. However, they broke new ground in 2018 when they approved Epidiolex the first prescription CBD drug.

The approval came on the heels of several studies showing promise that CBD can treat severe intractable childhood epilepsy.

Lennox Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome are severe seizure disorders that affect very young children. In some cases, these patients suffer from dozens of seizures per day. Some report up to 100.

Having so many seizures in such a short time can cause brain damage over time. It also leaves patients virtually bedridden and unable to live normal lives.

However, patients who consumed CBD saw a dramatic reduction in seizure frequency, while a lucky few became seizure-free.

If you research CBDs benefits, you may notice epilepsy or seizures among a brief point-form list. Although we know CBD does treat certain types of epilepsy, we have no evidence suggesting it can help with the many other, more common, seizure disorders.

Its also important to mention that CBD may interact negatively with many medications, including those used to control epilepsy.

Many people who try CBD dont have a good experience. This could happen for several reasons, but most of them boil down to quality. Premium CBD oil should be third party tested, cleanly extracted, and full of beneficial compounds, like terpenes and other cannabinoids.

If youre looking for a good CBD product and dont know where to start, our 2022 review of the 10 best CBD oils will put you on the right track.

Anecdotal and some preliminary evidence suggestsoften stronglythat CBD may help alleviate several symptoms. However, these havent received the same clinical trials that gave us Epidiolex, so evidence is preliminary at best.

Nonetheless, cell, animal, and some small human trials paint a fairly positive picture. So far, we have reason to believe CBD can help with:

Pain Anxiety Inflammation Gastrointestinal issues Migraine Nausea Appetite

These are just a handful of reported CBD benefits. The list is much more extensive, which leads us to our next point.

When CBD first made a name for itself, users implied that it was essentially a cure-all. People claimed it could fix everything from acne to cancer.

Of course, such claims arent substantiated beyond preliminary studies. But back then, these alleged benefits were anecdotal. Still, it looked good from a marketing standpoint, so unscrupulous vendors didnt blink at cashing in.

The FDA isnt keen on these practices. After examining several CBD products, they found that the majority had serious discrepancies in CBD and THC content, among other concerns.

Between 2014 and 2019, the FDA checked 147 CBD products, noticing inaccuracies if not deliberate falsehoods for cannabinoid content. In some cases, THC levels werent even mentioned on the labels.

By this point, however, people everywhere thought CBD was the ultimate medicine. As a result, its difficult to determine even today what role the placebo effect plays in CBDs efficacy.

Yes, CBD works. In some cases. However, we have no proof that CBD conclusively works for other reported symptoms or conditions; severe epilepsy being the exception.

That being said, theres no harm in trying CBD under the guidance of a health professional. Its also no substitute for established medical treatment.

The safest way to approach CBD is with cautious optimism. In time, well have some definitive answers regarding CBDs other reported benefits.

CBD for a Hangover: Everything You Need to Know and Top Brands – L.A. Weekly

Posted: at 2:36 am

It happens to all of us at some point. The night of too much alcohol and the inevitable misery the next morning. You know, that hangover that makes your head pound, body weak, and stomach roll? Yet somehow we always seem to forget about those dreadful results each time we decide to overindulge in our alcohol consumption. Fortunately, theres a natural remedy worth having on hand for the next morning when you dont feel your best its CBD for hangover relief!

Maybe you already have your miracle method to cure a hangoverand maybe you dont. Either way, were here to explain whats really going on inside when youre dealing with the unpleasant symptoms of a hangover, how your body can recover the quickest, and why CBD oil might be the best answer to those pitiful pleas for help.

Well, alcohol of course! But lets dive a little deeper and start with the symptoms we most commonly experience during a hangover.

Alcohol is a diuretic, which means that it makes you have to go to the bathroom often. As a result, you become dehydrated, which plays a role in the hangover symptoms of thirst, headaches, and dizziness. (Pro tip: Alternate alcoholic drinks with a glass of water to protect against excessive dehydration). Struggling to sit or stand up straight without feeling like youre going to throw up? Thats because alcohol irritates your stomach especially when you drink alcohol on an empty stomach leading to diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Additionally, alcohol impacts your electrolyte levels which is why you can feel weak and irritable.

And if thats not enough stress on your body, theres more. Your liver processes 90% of your consumed alcohol and it takes nearly an hour to process just one drink. The more you drink in a shorter amount of time, the more alcohol stays in your bloodstream, affecting your brain and heart, which leads to feeling drunk. Depending on your gender, weight, size, and how much alcohol you drink, your liver has to work extra hard to filter out the toxins for each and every drink which can take a while. In fact, it can last as long as 24 hours before you start to feel better. (Which you probably remember all-too-well after that one night of way too many drinks!)

While your typical hangover cure of a greasy breakfast and a little hair of the dog, might seem to work, CBD is becoming a popular hangover-remedying method. Why? Think of it this way two wrongs usually dont make a right. Instead, CBD can right those wrongs that your body is dealing with. Lets take a look at how this works.

Our bodies have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), which plays a role in regulating processes like sleep, appetite, mood, memory, focus, and even our pain response. A night of drinking throws the ECS out of balance, impacting how each of these processes works. CBD interacts with the ECSs two main receptors, CB1 and CB2, in order to bring the body back into balance so these processes can function as they normally would.

Picture it like this: a night of drinking is like someone knocking over a full bottle of wine, but CBD is the steady hand that catches the bottle before it crashes onto the table. Even though some of the wine splashed out during the incident, the bottle is still fairly full and, most importantly, not broken.

Here is how CBD for hangovers counteracts alcohols lasting effects:

As the stigma around cannabis evaporates, so do the clandestine weed storage methods many of us are used to, as evidenced by the popularity of Apothecarrys luxury stash boxes and humidors. Cannabis and Crohn’s Disease: Can It Help Symptoms? – Greatist

Posted: at 2:36 am

Some folks claim that substances derived from the cannabis plant can calm Crohns disease symptoms. But can a joint a day really keep the tummy troubles away? Spoiler alert: Prob not.

Heres what the science says about what cannabis can (and cant do) for Crohns disease. Plus, were breaking down tried-and-true options if weed isnt your thing.

Theres not a lot of research that shows cannabis can actually improve Crohns symptoms. But heres what we do know.

Cannabis plants contain phytocannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is a psychoactive substance while CBD may have some anti-inflammatory properties. Since Crohns is a type of IBD, the theory is that these properties might help ease symptoms. But thats a big might.

In a 2017 study, 20 participants received either 10 milligrams (mg) of oral CBD or a placebo. After 8 weeks, researchers found that CBD was safe to take but had no beneficial effects. It didnt improve inflammation in any of the participants.

One review analyzed the results of three small placebo studies that examined the use of cannabis in active Crohns disease. Two of the studies found that participants had a significant clinical improvement. But there were no major changes in inflammation. The researchers noted that cannabis might have the potential to treat some IBD symptoms, but theres not enough proof right now.

Also, we need more studies to show how isolated CBD can improve Crohns symptoms compared to other phytocannabinoids.

A 2021 double-blind study assessed the effects of cannabis on folks with Crohns disease. In the study, 30 participants received cannabis oil and 26 took a placebo for 8 weeks. The oil contained 160 mg/ml of CBD and 40 mg/ml of THC.

The simple endoscopic score for Crohns disease [SES-CD] and the Crohns Disease Activity Index (CDAI) was analyzed before and after the treatment. These scores help assess the size of ulcers and quantify symptoms. A subgroup of participants also submitted blood samples to test for CBD and THC plasma levels.

At the end of the 8 weeks, researchers found that the folks who had the cannabis treatment had an improved quality of life. But they didnt find major changes in endoscopic scores or inflammation.

FYI: The researchers noted that treating Crohns with cannabis should only be done in a clinical setting until more studies are available.

During a small 2013 placebo study, 21 patients with active Crohns disease were divided into two groups. Each participant had previously tried other treatments to manage their symptoms, but nothing worked. They had 11 people smoke a cigarette that contained 115 mg of THC twice a day and the other 9 participants smoked a THC-free placebo cigarette twice a day.

At the end of the 8-week study, researchers tried to figure out of the THC cigs helped improve Crohns symptoms compared to the placebo. Of the THC group, five went into remission but so did one person from the placebo group. So its impossible to say if the THC was the real reason why participants had improvements.

Also, this study is too small to prove the perks of cannabis to treat IBD. The researchers noted that larger patient groups and nonsmoking trials are needed.

If cannabis doesnt curb your Crohns, youre still in luck. There are lots of ways you can manage symptoms.

There are tons of cannabis products on the market, so finding the right type and dosage for you can be super overwhelming. But fear not, fam. Here are some tips on how to find the perfect product if youre interested in giving it a try.

Its tough to determine an exact dose of cannabis if youre looking to address IBD-related symptoms, according to a 2021 study. A lot of it depends on the concentration of THC or CBD, the severity of your symptoms, and how you react to it. Thats why its best to talk with your doctor first. They can help you figure it out.

You can smoke, vape, or ingest cannabis. It all comes down to your personal preferences. (Just keep in mind that smoking products containing tobacco is a major risk factor.) You can also get varieties that dont contain THC if you want to stick to CBD solo.

Is CBD legal? The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the legal definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act. This made some hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3 percent THC federally legal. However, CBD products containing more than 0.3 percent THC still fall under the legal definition of marijuana, making them federally illegal but legal under some state laws. Be sure to check state laws, especially when traveling. Also, keep in mind that the FDA has not approved nonprescription CBD products, and some products may be inaccurately labeled.

A lot of cannabis products miscalculate cannabinoid potency or dont report all of the cannabinoids present in a product, according to a 2017 study. Thats why its uber important you opt for high quality brands that have been third-party tested. Look for a certificate of analysis (COA), which is a verified document that has the deets on lab testing, potency, and ingredients.

Crohns disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation in the digestive tract. Its not clear whether cannabis can help improve symptoms like nausea, decreased appetite, cramping, or discomfort. We also need more research to show it can reduce inflammation or ease symptoms in the long run.

If you think cannabis might be right for you, talk with your doctor. They can go over the dosing deets and recommend the type that would be best for you. Just keep in mind, THC isnt legal in all 50 states and its not legal at the federal level. Make sure you understand what products youre using and follow the laws in your area.

If weed isnt your vibe, there are lots of Crohns treatments you can try. Your doctor can prescribe a medication to ease inflammation and discomfort. You can also try to improve your symptoms by sticking to a healthy IBD-friendly diet and avoiding cigarettes, booze, and caffeine.
