2 More Sports Wagering Applications Forwarded To State Committee; Five Casinos On Track To Open Sportsbooks In December – CBS Baltimore
Posted: at 4:51 am
BALTIMORE (WJZ) Two more sports wagering licenses have been forwarded to a state committee for final approval, and sportsbooks at five casinos in the state are on track to open this month, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission said Thursday.
The applications from Long Shots, a restaurant and off-track betting facility in Frederick, and Riverboat on the Potomac, an event space with food, off-track betting and lottery games located in Colonial Beach, Va., will be sent to the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) for consideration. Riverboats sports gambling space will be located in Maryland, the gaming commission said.
In a release, the gaming commission touted both as small businesses with minority and women owners, addressing some concerns about the diversity of license recipients. Both establishments were on a list of 17 entities designated for sportsbooks in the state law legalizing sports wagering, the commission said.
Were extremely happy to see these two locally owned businesses move forward, and were eager to continue working with them in the coming weeks to launch their sports wagering operations, said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin.
The SWARC on Nov. 18 approved sports gambling licenses at the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Live! Casino and Hotel in Hanover, MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Hollywood Casino in Perryville and Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin.
Martin said Thursday that Maryland Lottery and Gaming staff are scheduling two days of controlled demonstrations at the five casinos, a process he likened to a dress rehearsal.
Everything is on pace for the first public openings to happen in December, Martin said. The facilities and the public are eager to get started, and so are we.

Why is it Worth Playing at an Online Casino? – Eye On Annapolis – Eye On Annapolis
Posted: at 4:51 am
One of the major appeals of online casinos is the fact that they are incredibly convenient. Everybody loves the convenience and with online casinos, you are not restricted to a physical venue. Just as Japan-101 states, you can play online casino games whenever you want at any time, especially with the introduction of mobile casinos which allows you to gamble on the go. You no longer have to make the effort of getting dressed up and traveling to a physical casino. Now, you can simply gamble from the comfort of your own home, in your PJs if you so wish. You have access to your own food and drinks, as opposed to spending money on the same items at an actual casino. You get the added convenience of being able to stop and take a break whenever you want when youre playing from home. Everything is done at your own pace.
Another reason why online gambling is so much more enjoyable for most people is that there is no pressure when youre gambling from home. You dont have to wait in a queue to join tables, and you can play at your own pace which makes the experience more fulfilling because you dont need to rush. Unlike at a physical casino where there are a limited amount of tables, which means that when youre playing you feel pressured because you see that others are waiting (sometimes impatiently) to play. Then theres the added inconvenience of waiting on the dealer. Overall, gambling at home gives you more control over your experience because you are in a relaxed and familiar environment, away from any external influences and distractions. Online casino sites also give players the option to set their own betting limits.
Online casinos offer a variety of bonuses to new members as a way to encourage them to join. Existing members are also eligible for bonuses as an incentive for their loyalty. A few common bonuses that you will find at all online casinos include:
Bonuses are great because you get to test out different casino games without actually digging into your own account. The most popular bonus is by far the welcome bonus, more specifically a matched deposit welcome bonus where the casino matches your deposit by 100% or even 200%.
Finally, online casinos offer a much wider variety of casino games compared to physical casinos. The reason for this is because an online casino operates on the internet, which is a massive open space, versus a physical casino that is restricted by their limited floor space. There are thousands of games on an average online casino with some casinos having more than 6000 slot games alone. This is excluding live table games and other variations of games which would skyrocket that number even higher. Apart from all of that, online casinos often also offer free games which is always a benefit.
If you had any doubts about online casinos before, hopefully, they have been settled. Online casinos offer convenience, less pressure, more bonuses, and a host of different games.

Universal Hotels and Resorts Advances Nustar Resort and Casino in the… – Casino.Org News

Last updated on: December 2, 2021, 10:41h.
In spite of the obstacles COVID-19 brought to the global casino industry, Universal Hotels and Resorts is moving forward. The company is almost ready to deliver a new resort to the Philippines, with its Nustar Resort and Casino coming to Cebu next year.
Nustar has been in the works for the past four years. It was initially announced in November 2017, but a formal agreement to begin construction wasnt signed until August 2018. Construction of the property is moving forward, and the grand opening should be held next year, according to Phillapeans news outlet SunStar.
Dubbed the biggest gaming floor outside of Metro Manila, its gaming floor will span more than 226,000 square feet, according to early plans. There will also be three hotel towers with over 1,000 rooms, four floors of retail and dining space, and meeting and conference rooms.
Nustar will also have a water theme park, allowing the company to cater to family travelers.
Cebu was selected because of its ability to service a wide range of international tourists. It expects to receive a significant amount of domestic traffic, as well as visitors from South Korea, China, Japan, and other countries. Thanks to the growth of the Mactan Cebu International Airport, arriving at Cebu is easier and facilitated by more flights.
Universal Hotels and Resorts has been relatively quiet about the resorts progress until now. Providing an update could be an indication that it now has a clear idea of when everything will be ready. The company reportedly started working on securing its casino licenses this past April from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR).
The exact launch date for the resort hasnt been announced. It will offer a soft launch before opening its doors to the general public.
Nustar is located on Kawit Island on the east coast of Cebu. The area has become a hot target for casino resorts, including Emerald Bay, because of its redevelopment plans. Nustar sits on reclaimed land in a region known as South Road Properties (SRP). But the entire area is going through an overhaul.
SRP is being reinvigorated to become an entertainment and business hub. A number of projects have been undertaken this year. A 16,000-seat arena, a new convention center, and a 2.7-acre public park are among the items being added.
This past summer, over 100,000 new jobs will be created through the revitalization project, according to the head of real estate developer Ayala Land Estate Visayas, Iris Josef-Mediana, .

Sports betting approved at Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin – Ocean City Today
Posted: November 25, 2021 at 12:39 pm
Sports betting is officially greenlit at Ocean Downs Casino.
According to a wire story from The Center Square, the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission approved in-house sports betting licenses for five Maryland casinos, including the Berlin gambling facility, on Nov. 19.
Ocean Downs General Manager Bobbi Sample said in an email that John Martin, the director of the Maryland Lottery & Gaming Control Agency, has estimated that the casinos that were approved by the lottery commission and awarded by the application review commission including Ocean Downs will be up and running with in-person sports wagering within 30 to 45 days.
He has also estimated that online sports wagering in the state will be available roughly six months after the brick and mortar facilities are open, she said.
The Center square story said the other four casinos approved for licenses last week, out of the 30 cleared to apply, were Horseshoe Casino, Live! Casino in Hanover, MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill and Hollywood Casino in Perryville.
The approvals come on the heels of pressure from Gov. Larry Hogan to launch sports wagering in the state as soon as possible. Maryland is losing revenue to neighboring states that already have both in-house and mobile sports betting in operation.
Its clear to me the public wants casino gambling, they want sports wagering, Committee member Randy Marriner said during last weeks meeting. I think its our duty to do the job. Every day that we dont pass ... the state of Maryland is losing revenue because those gamblers are going to West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware D.C. and not only doing sports wagering but while theyre there theyre spending money in the casino.
Not everyone was on board with the approvals, though.
The Center Square story said that because no minority- and women-owned businesses have their applications ready for approval, two committee members were leery of approving the other licenses.
It would be in our best interests if, for no other reason but for perception only, to wait until some of these other applicants have been vetted by the lottery commission and so when it comes to our commission we now have a more diverse population and we are approving these licenses at the same time, Committee member Cassandra Stevenson said.
She and member Frank Turner voted against the approvals.
Voters approved sports betting in Maryland last November, and lawmakers ironed out the details during the 2021 session. The legislation allows 60 online operators and 30 retail sportsbooks including casinos, professional sports stadiums, small businesses and others to obtain licenses.
Ocean Downs applied for an A-2 license, which carries a $1 million application fee as well as costs for background investigations.
Officials initially hoped to launch sports betting operations in time for the start of the NFL season, but the timeline was pushed back.

BOSTON (SHNS) On Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, Gov. Deval Patrick put pen to paper and made casino-style gambling a reality for Massachusetts. A decade later, the vision for expanded gaming has not been fully realized yet, players have pumped more than $25.6 billion into slot machines alone, almost 5,000 people are working in the casino industry here and the state has raked in nearly $1 billion in gaming revenue.
In the years since Patrick signed the expanded gaming law, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has organized itself, installed rigid and detailed rules to tightly regulate the industry, licensed three properties and managed their construction, and now oversees the Plainridge Park Casino slots parlor in Plainville, the MGM Springfield resort casino and the Encore Boston Harbor resort casino in Everett.
But state regulators have not yet issued (in fact, they have rejected a bid for) the third casino license authorized by the 2011 law, meaning that the promise of job opportunities and economic development remains unfulfilled for Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket counties.
Relatedly, gambling in Massachusetts has not lived up to the $300 million annual state revenue figure that casino proponents trumpeted a decade ago in the run-up to legalization.
Expanded gaming in Massachusetts, for me, is about creating jobs; good jobs at good wages for people all across the commonwealth. Its really, to me, as simple as that, Patrick said just beforesigning the billin his office 10 years ago. Its not the solution to every economic challenge we face and it wont be the cause of every social ill that we in the commonwealth together have to deal with.
Plainridge Park Casino won the laws lone slots parlor license in February 2014 and opened its doors on June 24, 2015. MGM Springfield was next, securing the Western Mass. or Region B license in June 2014 and opening Aug. 24, 2018. Encore Boston Harbor in Everett landed the high-demand Greater Boston or Region A license in September 2014 and opened the $2.6 billion facility on June 23, 2019.
The three gambling outlets now employ 4,860 people either full- or part-time (3,396 at Encore Boston Harbor, 1,124 at MGM Springfield and 340 at Plainridge Park Casino), according to each facilitys most recent quarterly report to the Mass. Gaming Commission. All three have been actively hiring as the casinos rebound from their forced closure early in the pandemic and then months of COVID-related restrictions.
The Gaming Commission rejected a Brockton-based bid for the southeastern Mass. or Region C license in 2016 and has not seriously considered reopening the bidding in that region, despite the argument from city officials that a casino would help turn around the citys economic fortunes by providing new jobs.
Since it opened, Plainridge Park Casino has generated a cumulative $456.28 million in state revenue from more than $931.1 million in gross gaming revenue. Of the roughly $11.86 billion that bettors have put into the Plainville slots, Plainridge has paid out 92.14 percent as winnings, making theirs the most player-friendly slots in the state.
MGM Springfield has taken in $695.25 million in gross gaming revenue since it opened about $521.6 million from slot machines and $173.66 million from its table games generating $173.8 million for the state. Gamblers have bet about $6.2 billion at MGMs slots since they opened, but data on total table game wagers is not available for either casino.
Though it opened almost a year later, Encore Boston Harbor has already eclipsed MGM Springfield in most categories. The Everett casino has collected more than $1.16 billion in gross gaming revenue $608.39 million from slots and $554.1 million from table games which works out to about $290.62 million for state coffers. More than $7.54 billion has been wagered at the Encore slots.
As of last week, Plainridge has 1,019 active slot machines; MGM Springfield had 1,597 slot machines, 52 table games, 15 stadium gaming seats and 13 poker tables; and Encore Boston Harbor had 2,674 slot machines, 189 table games and 54 stadium gaming seats, according to the Gaming Commission.
In all, Massachusetts has collected about $920.71 million in state revenue from gaming since June 2015. The three properties currently average roughly $22.2 million in state revenue each month, which puts them on pace for roughly $266.4 million in annual state revenue shy of the $300 million estimate that casino backers cited during debate on Beacon Hill.
Patricks signing ceremony in 2011 capped off years of debate that saw Beacon Hill falter time and again amid widespread controversy about the implications of expanded gaming and an inability among legislative leaders and governors to align their priorities.
The collapse of negotiations between the governor and legislative leaders on the final night of formal business before the 2010 election cycle set the stage for private, closed-door talks among the governor and legislative leaders early in 2011, which led to a pre-negotiated bill that passed easily in both chambers of the Legislature (118-33in the Houseand 23-14in the Senate).
Of the 47 lawmakers who voted against casino gaming in 2011, 20 remain in the Legislature (Reps. Balser, Dykema, Garballey, Garlick, Malia, Peake, Pignatelli, J. Rogers, Ferguson and Smola, and Sens. Brownsberger, Chang-Diaz, Creem, Eldridge, Finegold, Jehlen, Keenan, Montigny, Rodrigues and Senate President Spilka).
The News Service reported at the time that Patrick was joined for the bill-signing by House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Sens. Jennifer Flanagan and Richard Ross, and Reps. Brian Dempsey, Kathi-Anne Reinstein, Russell Holmes and Joe Wagner. Only Holmes and Wagner are still in office.
By the time Massachusetts made casino gambling legal, the Lottery had already been around for 40 years and had become an important source of money that the state could use to provide local aid to cities and towns. The expanded gambling law required casino operators to partner with the Lottery to sell its products at gambling facilities in an attempt to protect some of that local aid source.
Ive been telling the casinos, Bring it on,' Treasurer Deborah Goldberg, who oversees the Lottery, said in a June 2015 radio interview. Were going to win.
For all of the hand-wringing over whether casinos would harm sales of scratch tickets and draw game numbers, the Massachusetts Lottery has posted some of the best financial results in its history since casinos have opened here.
The Lottery set records for revenue ($5.827 billion), profit ($1.105 billion), prize payouts, commissions and bonuses for retailers, scratch ticket sales and Keno sales in fiscal year 2021, topping its previous highs established in fiscal year 2019. Even amidst the pandemic, fiscal year 2020 saw the Lottery post what at the time was its third-best year in terms of revenue.
Now, 10 years after casino gambling was made legal in Massachusetts, Beacon Hill is grappling with the idea of further expanding gaming here this time to include legal sports wagering.
The Massachusetts House overwhelmingly approved sports betting legalization in July, but the Senate has never truly engaged on the topic and has not appeared interested in doing so even though senators have not publicly expressed outright opposition to the idea.
If sports betting becomes legal in Massachusetts as it is in more than 30 states including neighboring Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire and New York, it is widely expected that the Gaming Commission would add the activity and industry to its regulatory portfolio.
I think this is going to be the issue that were going to be all dealing with in the very near future, Gaming Commissioner Brad Hill, who voted in favor of sports betting this summer as a state representative, said last week.

Amid surging COVID-19, Detroit casinos reinstall mask mandates – The Detroit News
Posted: at 5:07 pm
If you want to gamble, Detroit's three casinos would prefer you do it with your cash, not your health.
MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino Hotel and Greektown Casino have reinstalled mask mandates, effective at noon Tuesday, after the state last week issued a recommendation, but not a mandate, for everyone over the age of 2 to be masked up indoors amid a surge of COVID-19 cases.
MGM Grand Detroit and MotorCity Casino Hotel made announcements on their websites and via emails to customers. An operator at Greektown Casino said it, too, is bringing back the mask mandate, and a spokesperson confirmed the decision.
"MGM Grand Detroit remains committed to the health and safety of our guests and employees," David Tsai, Midwest group president for MGM Resorts International, said in a letter to casino guests Monday night. "To prepare for your visit, please wear a face mask at all times unless you are actively eating or drinking.
"As we approach the holidays, we hope you stay well and wish you a healthy and happy holiday season. I look forward to welcoming you back safely on your next visit."
The three casinos are requiring the masks regardless of vaccination status.
All casinos provide masks to customers who don't have one.
"Face masks must be worn by customers, associates, and other visitors," MotorCity said in a statement.
The mask mandates for the casinos include hotel guests who are in public spaces. At MotorCity, masks will not be required for customers attending banquets or events at the Sound Board theater.
Detroit mayor Mike Duggan applauded the moves, which were voluntary.
"What private companies are doing makes great sense," he said Tuesday. "If I were running a casino, I'd do the same thing."
Detroit's three casinos shut down for several months, starting in March 2020, amid the early wave of COVID-19, missing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits. They reopened in December, with strict health measures in place, including mask mandates and no more smoking indoors. Mask mandates were lifted in June, and most customers haven't worn them since. The smoking ban has remained.
The three downtown casinos reported $114.1 million in revenues for October, with the state taking in $9 million in taxes and the city of Detroit $13.8 million. In the same period, Michigan's online gaming and sports betting operators reported $134 million in gross receipts, with nearly $21 million in taxes going to the state and nearly $6 million going to the city of Detroit. Online gaming in Michigan was legalized in January.

Why casinos are outlawed in Brazil sponsored – The Rio Times
Posted: at 5:07 pm
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL In terms of size and population, Brazil is the largest and most populated country in Latin America. It is spread over three million square miles and has an estimated 212 million people. Considering this very large population, it is expected that the Brazilian economy should be in good progress.
However, Brazils GDP has reduced significantly due to the economic recession that began in 2015. This made Brazil drop from her position of sixth largest economy to twelfth largest economy. A lot of countries with large populations like Australia have so many citizens gambling daily.
This is not the case with Brazil and this has spurred lots of questions about the prohibition of casinos in Brazil. Interested in the reasons why casinos are outlawed over there? Keep reading for more amazing discoveries.
THE GOVERNMENT ONLY ALLOWS GAMES OF SKILLS AND NOT GAMES OF CHANCE
One of the major reasons why casinos are outlawed in Brazil is because the government only allows games of skill and not games of chance. The rationale will be properly understood after understanding what games of chance and games of skill mean.
Chance games are games in which the winner or loser is solely dependent on luck. However, Brazils law permits skill-based games since their outcomes are strictly determined by the actions of the players.
From the definitions, its evident that casino gambling falls under games of chance. Hence, casinos are outlawed in Brazil. However, some forms of gambling recognized by law are permitted in Brazil.
Horse race betting is also one of the few forms of gambling allowed in Brazil, which is regulated by laws amended in 1984. Nonetheless, it is considered illegal to conduct horse race betting if it is done by unlicensed operators. Law No. 9,099/95 deems games of chance to be misdemeanors punishable by small fines (Article 61).
Hence, a minor penalty of up to and not more than two years may be imposed on those who participate in games of chance.
Gambling is considered a distraction for citizens and a fraudulent instrument for companiesSince 1946, when the last casino permit was canceled, gambling has been prohibited in Brazil. Several scholars have suggested that Brazils gambling prohibition resulted from the countrys industrialization, as labor unions wanted free men to devote more of their time to work rather than leisure.
However, there is a widespread perception in Brazil that gambling activities serve as a cover for money laundering and that they are financed by criminal organizations. This is due to the widespread availability of bingo halls, slot machines, and Jogo do Bicho in Brazil despite the general prohibition currently in place.
Nonetheless, these convictions are no longer common in Brazil, and Brazilians now look for alternative casinos to gamble at, especially online where theres a lot of fun to find if you look at foreign sites. Exactly because of the ban on various casino-related games, the Brazilian people now have a tendency to resort to alternative, foreign sites, where security is not always paramount.
If youre tempted to seek out a casino game outside the countrys borders, it is especially important that you find a platform like https://www.americancasinoguide.com/, where theres a selection of safe and trustworthy sites. Moreover, there are more casinos looking to welcome Brazilians and people with no gambling market in their territories. Hence, Brazilians still enjoy playing at top offshore casinos with friendly bonuses that boost their winning chances.
