US.- Caesars Entertainment has held a topping-out ceremony for its new 12-story hotel tower at Harrahs Cherokee Valley River Casino in North Carolina as part of its $275m expansion plans. The resort opened the first phase of its expansion with a new casino floor in May.

The new 25,000-square-foot casino floor includes a new poker room, 300 more slot machines, eight additional table games, and a central casino bar with 22 seats.

The Catawba Two Kings Casino launched its first live table games as part of the third expansion of the temporary gaming facility in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Its offering craps, roulette, mini-baccarat, blackjack, Mississippi stud poker, and three-card poker.

The casino added 64 slot machines earlier this month. Work on upgrading the temporary casino began in February 2024 using prefabricated modular structures.

Ballys Corporation, which closed the Tropicana Las Vegas last April and has slowly been demolishing it since, filed an application to implode the casino resorts two 22-story towers on Thursday.

The permit application, filed with Clark County, requests the implosion of the vintage Las Vegas Strip resorts Tropicana Club and Paradise towers in a single explosive event.

Unnamed demolition companies would begin setting up by Sept. 30 at the earliest, and complete the blast before Oct. 8, according to the permit application, which values the cost of the implosion contract at $1.2 million.

Representative of the Ballys Corporation, the operator of the 1950s relic, are keeping mum on all specifics. No doubt, they will try to hide the implosion date from the public, and conduct it in the wee morning hours.

Their only logical goal would be to discourage as many in-person observers as possible, should anything not proceed as planned.

Clark County approved a demolition permit for the site on April 20. Since then, Ballys has been slowly deconstructing the Tropicana, which closed on April 2, just shy of its 67th birthday.

The Oakland As have expressed their intention to build a $1.5 billion, 33,000-seat ballpark on 9 of the sites 36 acres. According to Ballys and Gaming & Leisure Properties, which owns the land, the other 27 acres will be developed as a casino resort.

A former Indiana state lawmaker has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison for his role in the Spectacle Entertainment corruption case.

Sean Eberhart, a Republican state representative for 16 years, pleaded guilty in November 2023, to a federal honest services fraud conspiracy charge. He admitted he accepted money and the promise of a future job from casino operator Spectacle that promised to pay $350K per annum.

In return, he promoted and voted for a 2019 bill that authorized the operator to relocate two gaming licenses. These were from casinos located on Lake Michigan that would be transferred to more lucrative locations in downtown Gary and Vigo County, Ind. The former property later became the Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana.

Eberhart was a longtime representative of Central Indianas House District 57. He also sat on the House Committee on Public Policy, which oversees casinos and gambling in the state.

He used his position not only to grease the skids on the relocation of the two licenses, but also to reduce the transfer fee from $100 million to $20 million. In addition, he pushed forward favorable tax incentives for Spectacle.

Eberhart was facing up to five years in prison, but prosecutors recommended he serve one year as part of the guilty plea. The ex-lawmaker must also pay $60K in restitution, roughly equivalent to a years salary for a state representative.

Keeler was sentenced to two months in prison after he admitted directing $41K in funds to a political consultant working on State Senator Brent Waltzs (R) failed 2016 congressional campaign.

Waltz later pleaded guiltyto two felony counts of making and receiving conduit contributions and lying to the FBI. He served seven months in prison.

Keeler and Spectacle founder and CEO Rod Ratcliff were ultimately removed from the company. A subsequent restructuring made Spectacle a minority shareholder in what became the Hard Rock Casino.

Leaders with the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians, the Tuolumne Economic Development Authority Inc. and Black Oak Casino Resort held a ceremonial groundbreaking Friday next to the resorts hotel for a new pool area that will be called The Water, the next phase of expansion at one of Tuolumne Countys top economic engines.

Darryl Tinkle, TEDA president, said the new pool area is expected to be complete by July 3. It will include an adults-only pool area and spa with a bar and lounge, room for dances and pool parties, and a kids water area with a water structure consisting of slides and water features, with a maximum capacity of 746 people total.

Building the new pool area will create 300 to 400 jobs, Tinkle said. The contractor is Santa Ana-based Moorefield Construction Inc., which has worked closely with the Morongo Band of Mission Indians the past seven years to expand Morongo Casino Resort and Spa on tribal land in Riverside County, Larry Moorefield said.

The Water project is part of a multiphase expansion of Black Oak Casino Resort that began with construction of Elevate, the new 20,000-square-foot family fun center that opened next to the resort in December. Elevate is now open 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday to Friday each week and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday.

Tinkle said TEDA is investing millions of dollars in phased expansions. The Water project is the second of multiple expansion phases, with more yet to be announced.

We want to thank everybody for the support throughout this process, Tinkle told more than 50 people who gathered for the ceremony Thursday afternoon. The TEDA board, the tribe, officers, management here. I want to thank all you guys for your continued support trying to achieve something like this.

Kyle Cox, tribal vice chair, said Friday was a celebration of growth and community, not just the tribal community, but the community the tribe is part of Tuolumne township.

We work there, we go to school there, our kids go to school there, and we welcome them here to be part of our community, Cox said.

Lyn Baxter, general manager of Black Oak Casino, welcomed everyone at the ceremony and said, This is a tremendously humbling honor for the resort team because we are standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, the elders that had the vision and the courage that its taken each step of the way. It takes courage to break ground as the team did here 22 years ago, and to go through all the changes and risks and negotiations with the local community and the state.

The initiatives that began the path leading to todays reality at Black Oak Casino Resort go back decades and decades, and some tribal elders Baxter has known were making trips to Washington, D.C. back before electricity almost, Baxter said.

So its meaningful and humbling for us to be able to stand on that, Baxter said. If it was not for our team members executing the vision, the play called in the huddle by the tribe, we wouldnt be here today. From dishwashers to the people who work on graveyard shifts to do heavy duty cleaning every single night to the people who work in parking and public safety and tribal security and the gaming commission, the best is getting better.

Moorefield told the gathering about Moorefield Construction, Inc.s work with the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and other tribes for the past 15 years, and he said work on removing concrete on the currently paved work site will begin next week.
