The First Native American Tribe to Own and Operate a Casino Resort in Las Vegas Begins Team Member Recruitment and Plans to Open in Spring 2022
Las Vegas, NV, Dec. 16, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority (SMGHA) an affiliate of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (San Manuel or the Tribe) today announced they received approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission as licensees for Palms Casino Resort (Palms) in Las Vegas.
With this approval, SMGHA Nevada, LLC, owned by SMGHA, is set to close the transaction and become owners of Palms Casino Resort with plans to reopen next year in the spring.
We are grateful for this opportunity to share our long-standing tradition of hospitality with Las Vegas and execute our vision for this iconic resort, starting by welcoming back former and current Palms employees, said SMGHA Chairwoman Latisha Casas. Together, we will create history.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Red Rock Resorts and their leadership team, said SMGHA Management Committee Member Laurens Vosloo. We deeply appreciate the support and ongoing partnership they provided as we worked through transition of ownership.
Recruitment for more than 1,000 positions ranging from casino, operations, hotel management, food and beverage along with supervisor positions is underway. Following the close of the transaction on Friday December 17, interested applicants can apply at http://www.palmscareers.com.
In addition to the casino, Palms includes more than 700 hotel rooms and suites, multiple casual and upscale dining options, meeting and convention space, a 2,500-seat theater, pool and spa, and Palms Place condominiums.
Within days of the close of the deal, guests can make reservations at Palms Place at http://www.palms.com. Room reservations for Palms Casino Resort will be available in early 2022.
Its such an honor to reach this milestone today. As we forge ahead, it's important we bring forward the strong values and culture of the Tribe into everything we do at the property, said Cynthia Kiser Murphey, General Manager of Palms. From team member culture to exceptional guest service, it's our intent to create a lively and fun environment not only for customers but our dedicated staff as well.
Story continues
Even prior to opening the property, the Tribe has supported Las Vegas based community groups and non-profits by contributing more than $10 million to organizations including UNLVs William F. Harrah College of Hospitality and William S. Boyd School of Law; the Public Education Foundation; Three Square Food Bank and Shade Tree Shelter to name a few. Additionally, the Tribe has partnered with local sports teams through sponsorships with the Las Vegas Raiders, Allegiant Stadium, and the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Tribe owns and operates Yaamava Resort & Casino at San Manuel (formerly San Manuel Casino), in Highland, CA. What started 35 years ago as a humble bingo hall became one of Southern Californias premier destinations for gaming, entertainment and culinary delights. Earlier this year, the Tribe unveiled the first of a three-part expansion project at the casino, adding more than 6,500 slot machines, a new high-limit gaming room, retail shops, bars and new restaurants. Just days ago, the Tribe celebrated the opening of the resort at Yaamava, featuring 432 guest rooms with 127 spacious suites, a pool, private cabanas, a full-service spa and salon and new food and beverage options. In 2022, the expansion will be complete with the debut of a 2,800-seat entertainment venue.

"The numbers don’t lie and 1,000 satisfied guests mark a very positive balance for GAT in 2021" – Yogonet International
Posted: at 10:38 am
In an exclusive interview with Yogonet, the creator of 3A Producciones and organizer of GAT events in Colombia and the Dominican Republic gave a positive assessment of their activity in the last year and anticipated the challenges they will face in 2022.
What is the overall assessment of the three GAT events in 2021?
Two years after launching the GAT Expo brand, we took the risk and were the first to return to in-person businesses in the gaming industry in Latin America, implementing a new format of biosecure medium-sized events, based on customized networking between suppliers and operators, sharing new experiences in places where networking spaces can be enjoyed outdoors, in attractive tourist locations.
In this way, we were able to bring together 600 visitors to GAT Expo Cartagena in August, and here I would like to point out that we were the first to be surprised to find that businessmen from 23 countries in the Americas, Europe, and Asia came to Colombia.
The GAT Showcase Bogota, very important because it is the capital of the country, gathered more than 300 visitors. And we closed the year with GAT Caribe in Punta Cana, where we brought together leaders from casinos, lotteries, and sports banking in the Dominican Republic.
In short, over a period of four months, a total of 1,000 businessmen and women attended a series of marathon sessions of academic and commercial updates, thanks to the support of regulators, trade associations, manufacturers, and operators.
The numbers do not lie and 1,000 guests satisfied with the outcomes of their time and money investment show us a very positive result, but above all, it leaves us with a flattering outlook for next year's organization.
In general, for your business as a trade fair organizer, what are the lessons and changes brought about by the pandemic?
For 3A Producciones, the company that owns the Gaming & Technology Expo GAT Expo brand, the pandemic made three things clear: the first is that the way of doing business has changed.
The paradox is evident, although physically we have been apart, virtual communication has become a fundamental tool that has achieved a very direct interaction with each exhibitor or sponsor, bringing us closer. The loyalty of our clients has turned them into allies of our events.
The second point is that the team that works with you must be committed to the company's goals, despite the change in working methods and the obstacles that circumstances have imposed on us.
As far as events are concerned, we are convinced that the virtual world will never be able to replace an in-person event, especially when it comes to international businesses.
Which markets will GAT target in its 2022 editions?
In the last two years, we have had the opportunity to learn about the Caribbean market, which is experiencing similar situations to those experienced by Colombia 10 years ago.
The analysis of this new market is of great interest since our events allow integration and promote the regional unity of the industry throughout South America, the Caribbean Community, Caricom, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica, among others.
An important process of regulation in this insular zone of the Atlantic is on the way. We also celebrate the possibility of the return of physical casino operations in Venezuela and Ecuador, where we are already in contact in order to gather all these operators in Cartagena de Indias in the month of March. We have decided to accompany these processes with academic sessions that contribute to these regulatory developments for legal gaming in the operation of physical casinos and online gaming.
GAT Expo 2022 will be held in Cartagena de Indias on March 15-17, offering exhibitors and visitors a wide network of communication and advertising channels for marketing campaigns during the three days of the event. The academy will focus on a single session, morning and afternoon, on March 15. We will have a welcome lunch for regulators, trade bodies, exhibitors, and sponsors, closing with La Previa, which will be a catamaran tour of the bay. The halls of the Cartagena de Indias Convention Center will receive land-based and online exhibitors. There will be capacity control, biosecurity measures and in compliance with the Colombian National Government regulations, all attendees must present a vaccination certificate with a complete vaccination scheme.
GAT Caribe will hold its second edition at the Westin Hotel in Punta Cana and will feature a special three-day program that begins with a yacht ride as a welcome event for regulators, trade bodies, exhibitors, and sponsors. The exhibition of casino equipment and online platforms will be on the second day and conferences and panels will be offered on the third day. All this will take place on June 8-10. And GAT Showcase will be held again in Bogota, on September 15 at the Sheraton Hotel and will be mainly focused on the land-based market of operators and manufacturers of slot machines and roulettes.
What is the content that GAT will focus on?
Our call will be based on the academy and the trade show, backed by the institutional support of regulators, associations, distributors, and operators. The unavoidable topics are digital transformation, eSports betting, and digital marketing. Likewise, current topics such as affiliations, cryptocurrencies, and payment methods will also be discussed.
We consider that the scheduled networking events are a very important asset of GAT and we hope that the Latin American gaming industry can fully enjoy them as an extraordinary experience linked to their businesses.
Who are the exhibitors and sponsors confirmed so far for each event?
For GAT Expo Cartagena in the land based segment: Alfastreet, Aruze, Novomatic, Gambee, IGT, Winsystems, Zitro, R Franco, Interblock, Colinktek, JCM Global, Cluster Tech, Bya Group, Valisa, GLI, ASAP Americas, IZC and CDM Equipos. Online Gaming: Gameart, Toucheng, Booongo, TVbet, Worldmatch, Sportradar, OneTouch, Mondo Gaming, Betgames, Quinel, Exefeed, 1XBet, BMM, and America Simulcast.
The sponsors confirmed so far for Cartagena are Novomatic and Altenar. We are closing negotiations with a dozen clients interested in confirming their booths and sponsorships before the end of the year. In Punta Cana IGC, Zataca and Loteka will be present; and in Bogota, Zitro and Gambee.
Of course, Asojuegos, Fecoljuegos, and Cornazar, as well as the Dominican Casino Association, will participate in the three events.
How are you preparing to provide good customer support?
Our goal is to provide a turnkey service to our exhibitors, and we have assembled the necessary teams of professionals to optimize the production and logistics processes, with a view to facilitating the participation of the brands.
Alexandra Hernndez, Marketing Director, will be in charge of staging all the physical and digital branding possibilities for exhibitors and sponsors. Alejandra Guqueta, Manager of City Group, will be the company in charge of the production and the technical setting up of the show.
Jorge Gmez, head of Affiliate Summit Latam, will once again be in charge of the academic content at GAT Expo. Geek City will be the company in charge of the eSports betting content, and of holding the first Counter-Strike tournament in the GAT eSports Arena. We have a team ready to attend to each of the activities necessary to achieve first-class events and constant support to national and foreign exhibitors.

When Will Online Sports Betting be Legal in NY? – Heavy.com
Posted: at 9:43 am
GettyNew York online and mobile sports betting is expected to be live in January or early February.
Its the question sports fans in New York have been asking:
When will online sports betting be legal in NY?
Technically, sports betting is legal in New York. In-person wagering has been legal since 2013, but the online aspect hasnt had the easiest path. That was until April 2021, when then-governor Andrew Cuomo signed New Yorks 2022 budget, which includes a plan to legalize online sports betting in the state.
Then in November, the New York State Gaming Commission approved nine sports betting app operators for licensing. Those approved are FanDuel, DraftKings, Bally Bet, BetMGM, Caesars Entertainment, Genting, PointsBet, Rush Street Interactive, and Wynn Resorts. But as of now, none of those operators are up and running, so you cant place an online sports bet in New York just yet.
Heavy has an affiliate partnership with FanDuel Sportsbook.
Right now, you cant bet online in New York State. While you can play Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) on FanDuel, one of the app operators who will be able to take online sports bets once launched, the site isnt taking wagers for live sporting events.
If youre in New York and you visit the FanDuel Sportsbook website, youll be directed to a screen listing the states where the app is live. And, as of now, New York isnt one of them.
The app uses your mobile devices location service to determine where you are. And if youre in New York, you will be prompted to get email updates on the status of FanDuel Sportsbook in NY so youll have all the details as they become available.
You can create a FanDuel Sportsbook online betting account on the companys website and visit states that have legalized online wagering and place your bets there.
If youre a New York resident, youre in luck as bordering states New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania have legalized online sports betting so you wont have to travel far.
Now that the first steps to legalizing online sports betting in New York have been made and the nine sportsbooks that will accept wagers have been identified, what comes next?
There are a few hurdles left before the sportsbooks go live. There has been no launch date set. There is still plenty of paperwork and significant server testing to be done.
The New York State Gaming Commission has stated the nine operators can launch when they are ready, but theyll need to choose one of the four New York state commercial casinos to host their servers and must get approval for the location.
New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., the state chairman of the Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming, and Wagering, recently spoke with Legal Sports Report about the next steps.
Addabbo asked the NY Gaming Commission to set one date for all nine sportsbooks to go live, but didnt suggest a start date himself.
Addabbo told the news outlet: It would just be better for the consumer of New York, really, and the industry if we all got a single start date. Now if an operator is unable to meet that start date set by the gaming commission thatd be unfortunate for them. But it would be fair and also better for the consumer instead of a haphazard who can start, who cant start.
The senator, who represents the 15th district in Long Island, has said in the past he expects the first bets to take place during the NFL playoffs and to be fully operational for the Super Bowl, which is scheduled for Sunday, February 13, 2022.
We are still expecting that first bet to be in the NFL playoffs, and then of course to be fully up and running by the Super Bowl. Were still on par for that, Addabbo told Elite Sports New York.
If youre a New York resident looking for a way to bet on sports legally, you can travel to New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania, all states that have launched online sports betting.
The rules for participation in each state are the same: You must be at least 21 years old and be physically present in the state youre making the bet in.
Simply create an account with FanDuel Sportsbook, deposit money into your account, and are you set to legally place wagers in any of these states. It doesnt matter what state you live in.
Bet now with FanDuel
Yes. Its legal to bet online in Connecticut. Connecticut fully launched online sports betting back on October 19, 2021, and FanDuel has partnered with Mohegan Sun.
You must be at least 21 years old and present in Connecticut in order to place online wagers. There youll be able to bet on NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, and many more domestic and international sports and contests. You can also bet on college sports, but not on Connecticut college sports teams. The only exception is when they are playing in tournaments with four or more teams, like the March Madness college basketball tournament.
Yes, its legal to bet online in New Jersey. Online sports betting has been in New Jersey for a number of years now and the state boasts one of the largest volume of wagering in the United States.
FanDuel has a sportsbook at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment right next to MetLife Stadium and Ballys Casino. They launched in September 2018 in the state.
Again, you must be 21 or over and physically present in New Jersey to make online sports wagers. Name a sport and you can likely bet on it, both domestic and international leagues.
Bet now with FanDuel
Yes, its legal to bet online in Pennsylvania. Online sports betting in Pennsylvania launched on May 31, 2019, with FanDuel entering the action in July of that year. FanDuel has a sportsbook at the Valley Forge Casino in King of Prussia.
Like all states, you must 21 years of age and present in Pennsylvania to place online sports bets. You can place wagers on most professional (domestic and international) and college sports. Theres never a shortage of bets.
Bet now with FanDuel
First, you need to create a FanDuel Sportsbook online betting account. Thats simple enough.
There are a number of different ways to bet on FanDuel. Straight bets consist of wagering on the point spread, money line, and the total (over/under). Other ways to play are with prop bets, parlays, and teasers.
FanDuel is free to join! Though in order to place online bets, youll need to deposit money into your account after its created. They also run promotions for first-time users, often matching a percentage of your first deposit amount, among other promos. Theyre usually available on a limited-time basis, so what offer you get depends on when you sign up.
So lets say youve won some bets and are looking to withdraw some of your winnings. Not a problem. There are a number of ways to do that, including PayPal, Venmo, Prepaid Card, Check, and Online Banking. Although not every state offers all these withdrawal options, so youll have to check FanDuels Withdrawal page.
If you want to make a withdrawal via Venmo, PayPal, Online Banking, or a Prepaid Card, you will have had to make a deposit by one of those methods.
And youll get your money quickly. PayPal and Venmo take up to 48 hours to be approved for withdrawal and once approved your money will be available in about an hour. Ditto for Prepaid Card users on the approval time, but once approved your money is available immediately.
The Online Banking method will take 3-5 days to process, while those who choose to receive their funds by check can expect a 7-10 business day wait.

Danske Spil, Gamingtec, and ComeOn: on the move – Casino Beats
Posted: November 19, 2021 at 5:42 pm
With comings and goings commonplace across the industry, the Canadian Gaming Association, PlayStar, and Danske Spil, all feature in our latest rundown of a number of recent manoeuvres.
Danske Spil
The board of Danske Spil has elected Karsten Fogh Holanng as inbound chief executive of licensed games, the sportsbook and online gambling unit of Danske Spil, Denmarks state-owned operator.
Holanng, who has served as chief information officer of the division since 2016, will take leadership of Danske Spils online gambling unit in February of 2022.
The appointment will see Holanng replace Niels Erik Folmann, who announced that he would be ending his nine-year tenure as CEO earlier this month after choosing to join Danish theme park operator Tivoli as the companys CCO.
Karsten has in-depth knowledge of the business and our partners, and he has delivered great results as IT officer at Danske Spil, Nikolas Lyhne-Knudsen, Group CEO of Danske Spil, noted.
I am pleased that we can draw even more on Karstens extensive commercial and managerial experience in the role of director of Danske Licens Spil.
ComeOn Group
ComeOn Group has reorganised its C-level leadership team after announcing the appointment of three new executives to lead its product, technology and performance marketing units.
This has seen gaming director Cristiano Blanco gain promotion to chief product officer, where will be charged with directly overseeing the combination of product operations, product development & design, and roadmap management for the groups multi-brand portfolio.
A further internal appointment sees Mikael ngman promoted from director of technology and products to chief information officer, with Efi Peleg, the former director of performance of marketing at William Hill, to join the ComeOn executive leadership team.
Our leadership team is now complete with both new and existing executive team members, adding on to that we have our hybrid office approach that is pioneering and will set us apart making sure to keep and attract talent in our industry, Juergen Reutter, ComeOn CEO, stated.
ComeOn has a history of innovating in this exciting industry for more than 12 years and we have a solid growth strategy in place, in which product, tech, and marketing play a key role. The recent launch of WeSpin is one of many examples where our organisation keeps innovating with Product, Tech and Marketing coming together and driving our differentiating edge.
Gamingtec
Andrei Beu has been appointed as commercial director for B2B at Gamingtec, where he will be tasked leading the division as well as gaining responsibility for new sales and marketing initiatives that will drive brand awareness and strengthen the companys position.
He will also manage Gamingtecs presence at industry events, especially with the return of live events following the COVID-19 pandemic, and in particular coming up with concepts and strategies to better engage with potential new partners while also staying connected with existing clients.
Sapar Karyagdyyev at Gamingtec, explained: In Andrei we have a talented and experienced sales manager that has a comprehensive understanding of the industry. We look forward to being able to leverage this, along with his passion for sales, to take awareness to the next level and engage with new customers.
We are entering a hugely exciting chapter for the business with ambitious growth plans and a product pipeline packed with innovative features and cutting-edge tools. Andrei is absolutely the right man for making operators aware of what we have to offer.
PlayStar
PlayStar has added Gustav Vadenbring to its senior management team as chief financial officer, effective January 10 2022, with the group planning ambitious growth plans for the US market.
Vadenbring joins PlayStar from gambling affiliate Acroud (formerly Net Gaming) where he has served as CFO since 2018. He has previously held senior financial roles at Actic Group, Deloitte and SEB.
In this latest role he will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the business as it embarks on its journey from start-up challenger brand to being a major player in the fast-growing online casino market in North America.
Per Hellberg, CEO of PlayStar, explained: Gustav is a major coup for PlayStar. He brings with him unrivalled experience in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions which will prove key to us achieving our goal of becoming the preferred online casino brand in New Jersey and beyond.
As a challenger brand it is important that we maintain tight control over our finances while also securing additional investment as and when required, and in Gustav we have someone that is beyond qualified for the job.
I would like to officially welcome him to PlayStar and look forward to working closely together, and with the rest of the hugely talented team we have assembled, as we get ready to take the market by storm when we make our imminent debut.
Canadian Gaming Association
The Canadian Gaming Association appointed four new members to its board of directors during its annual general meeting last week.
This saw Scott Burton, CEO of FansUnite Entertainment; Neil Erlick, chief corporate development officer of Nuvei; Jeffrey Haas, SVP of international strategy of DraftKings; and Chuck Keeling, EVP of stakeholder relations and responsible gaming at Great Canadian Gaming, each become appointed.
Carrie Kormos, chair of the board, said: That the CGA Board added four new members is a testament to the Associations exponential growth in 2021. We welcomed 18 new members and diversified by adding sports betting and eSports operators, payment companies, and many non-gaming suppliers.
This will provide the CGA with an opportunity to act as a convenor for the industry as a whole and build collaboration during this exciting period in Canadian gaming.

What niches is affiliate marketing the most effective in? – GRUNGECAKE
Posted: at 5:22 pm
Affiliate marketing has shown huge signs of profitability in the recent past. Just like the True Blue casino no deposit bonus codes 2021, what you put in is what you get. However, with little entry costs or investments, firms and individuals have gained a lucrative return on investment through affiliate marketing. So, many people see it as a very attractive revenue source for influencers that want to grow their audience and monetize their pages and channels and for businesses that want to gain more conversion and sales. While there is an avalanche of areas or avenues for affiliate marketing, some are more profitable than others. That is why many affiliate marketers and firms are always researching to discover the most profitable and effective ways to market their niches.
This leads to the debate on the niches that affiliate marketing is most effective in. Some people argue that this system of marketing works wonders for any niche, so far as it is properly done. Of course, demand will always be high where a brand comes in with solutions to problems, desires, and worries. That is why some believe that affiliate marketing works most for niches with evergreen demand. They say that you can easily succeed with affiliate marketing in those niches where you find diehard fans. However, some are also of the opinion that while currently trending topics can make you the money as an affiliate immediately, they may not sustain your channel. Below are some of the niches where affiliate marketing works well.
Of course, we are in the era of technology, and the fact that technology makes work and life simpler endears it to all. We also derive entertainment from tech and make our voices heard through it. That makes it one of the focal points of the world at the moment. A look at the statistics reveals that the software industry that the digital transformation is driving is worth $500 billion. In this niche, you have products like video games, digital streaming, mobile tech, and business software. The truth is that affiliate marketing works effectively in these niches.
The fact that more people stayed home in the last 2 years due to the impact of the health crisis also heightened the interest in these products. Individuals and industries tried to leverage digital alternatives as solutions for the reduction in physical products. The good thing about this sector is that even as the health crisis is gradually abating, many people still prefer to stay with the remote life they acquired while it raged. All you need to succeed in affiliate marketing in this niche is to learn how your audience interacts with technology. Understand if they adopt cutting-edge tech as soon as they are launched or whether they take time to imbibe them. You can focus on opportunities that will help people turn to remote work or freelancing, and how they can manage their time. Focus on how they can remain connected, stay organized, and deliver more efficiency. With these, affiliate marketing in this niche will work out for you.
This niche also received a boost from the pandemic. Because of that, the health and wellness sector that is valued at $4 trillion in 2019 is expected to hit $6 trillion by 2025. The health crisis made people increase their focus on their health. The warnings that living a healthy lifestyle is the only way to survive also helped the course of this sector. People were conducting a lot of searches on what to do to survive the pandemic. A lot took to the gym to remain fit, while many started imbibing lots of healthy lifestyle practices.
Peoples desire to live healthier, longer, and more fulfilling lives puts money in the hands of health and wellness bloggers. The pandemic changed the way people live and think. However, concerns about health and wellness are specific to people of different ages. All you need is to study the age range and gender that you want to serve and focus on the trending topics. You need to stay up to date with news in the wellness industry to succeed.
This has a huge effect in the United States, the same way real money pokies are seen in Europe. Statistics have it that the amount that people spend on pets in the US every year will soon get to $100 billion. There is also a prediction that the desire of the consumers to shop for their pet products online will grow by 9%. This means that affiliate marketers in this niche will soon start making a kill if they are not yet. Here, you have products like service dogs, therapy pets, pet clothing, grooming products, and speciality pet foods on the hotline.
Now, the fact that many people have been working at home in the last year due to the virus and that some have refused to leave remote work also fuels this. It has helped the pet care sector. That is why more than 20% of the population of the country has been reported to spend more than usual on pets this year. They are home with their pets. They see them every minute and try to get the best for them. So, this niche is another hotcake for affiliate marketing.
For you to succeed in the affiliate marketing of any of these niches, you need to understand what makes it seamless and easy for prospects to turn into customers.
It takes a lot of work to figure out the niche to build your channel or site around. The truth is that most affiliates quit because of failure to succeed above this stage. Many see succeeding here as more difficult than finding a unicorn. However, there are real unicorn affiliate marketing niches. All you need is to study this article and implement all the points in it. You will soon be on your way to huge success as an affiliate marketer.

Visit San Manuel Stadium home of the Inland Empire 66ers – MLB.com
Posted: at 6:04 pm
Welcome to San Manuel Stadium, where mascot Bernie bobbles his belly in the Southern California sun, fans relish San Bernardino Mountains views and the Inland Empire 66ers race for the Low-A West title.
Inland Empire 66ers (Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels since 2011)Established: 1987 (in the Class A California League)Ballpark: San Manuel Stadium (opened 1996, as The Ranch)League: Low-A WestNotable Alumni: Ken Griffey Jr., Paul Konerko, Felix Hernandez, Adrian Beltre, Ted Lilly, Ramon Martinez, Eric Karros, Rafael Soriano, Nathan Eovaldi, Kenley Jansen, Brandon MarshChampionships: 1995, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2013
It may be possible to achieve a complete understanding of the great American pastime without taking in a baseball game along historic Route 66 hosted by a Minor League team named after historic Route 66, but who wants to find out? The wiser course is to get your kicks at an Inland Empire 66ers game.
Contemporary Minor League Baseball came to the hub of California's San Bernardino and Riverside Counties with the arrival of the San Bernardino Spirit in 1987. The Spirit were a Seattle Mariners affiliate at the time of their arrival, switching to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1995. In 1996 the Spirit relocated to Rancho Cucamonga and, in a corresponding move, the Salinas Spurs relocated to San Bernardino and began operating as the Stampede. The Los Angeles affiliation remained.
From a fan's perspective, the biggest change came with the opening of the park now known as San Manuel Stadium in 1996, which coincided with the Spirit being rebranded as the Stampede.
When the team rebranded again in 2002, it was as though the franchise had found its true self, embracing the entire two-county community while paying homage to the area's car culture and the region's historical standing as the gateway from the American Southwest to the big cities and growing suburbs of Southern California. There they were: the Inland Empire 66ers.
From 2007-10, the 66ers were a Dodgers affiliate, and they've been an Angels affiliate since 2011, so Inland Empire has affixed itself prominently and firmly to the baseball landscape of the area.

Designed by HOK -- the same architecture firm responsible for Camden Yards, Coors Field and, more recently, the Triple-A Aviators' Las Vegas Ballpark -- San Manuel Stadium has a classic feel that takes full advantage of its geographical setting. Views of the city's skyline (modest but not without charm) beyond parts of the outfield wall give way to the majesty of the San Bernardino Mountains in the distance. Looking in a northerly direction beyond left field, the mountains, foregrounded by a variety of stately trees, feel especially near.
The ballpark is situated a few blocks from the 215 freeway (take the 5th Street exit if you want to stop at In-n-Out), which connects to the 210 to the north and the 10 to the South. San Bernardino International Airport is within four miles to the east, and Ontario International Airport is about a 40-minute drive west on the 10. The San Bernardino Santa Fe Depot, with Amtrak service via the Southwest Chief and Metrolink connections on two lines, is a mile and a half away.
Features
The views beyond the outfield wall distinguish San Manuel Stadium more -- and more favorably -- than any in-park add-on ever could. That doesn't mean the interior of the ballpark wants for character. The distinctly designed videoboard in right somehow complements both the action on the field and the mountain backdrop, and it's a pleasure to walk around the concourse -- an arched entryway and concession stands nestled into bright stucco walls leave no doubt that a visitor is in Southern California.
Those looking for seating options beyond field-level boxes and club seating can check out a dozen luxury suites, an outdoor suite with a full-service bar and all-you-can drink beer, two party patios and ample and affordable lawn seating along the left-field line.
Mascot
Bernie -- a pan-smacking, belly-rattling, butt-boogeying something or other -- predates the 66ers identity itself, having debuted during the reign of the Stampede.
A mascot doesn't end up with that kind of staying power unless he's truly special -- and a little enigmatic.
Locals love Friday games for the 50-cent hot dog special, but those who want to bite into something quintessentially SoCal would do well to schedule a trip to San Manuel around a game when the 66ers are playing as the California Burritos -- an alternate identity that honors the local practice of adding french fries to burritos.
In the past, California Burritos games have rolled up such epicurean and entertaining delights as competitions between local vendors with fan voting to determine the best California burrito, a burrito-eating contest involving specimens weighing five pounds and the free-spirited distribution of mini-burritos to fans in the stands.
Local favorite Rosa Maria's has been a sponsor and has a pronounced presence on California Burritos nights.
Sophia's Mexican Food has also been active during California Burritos games, but the good news is that Sophia's is the 66ers' in-stadium taco specialty stand -- meaning a fan doesn't need to do any special planning to be able to scarf some classic California-style Mexican dishes during a game.
Local attractions
The road from which the 66ers get their name can also take a visitor all the way to the beaches under Santa Monica Pier in less than 80 miles, meaning all of the attractions of Los Angeles are within reach for pregame tourism action. Head east instead of west, and so is Joshua Tree National Park.
But a wayfaring gentleperson who wants to minimize time spent in traffic can take heart. There's plenty to see and do without venturing out of the IE.
Outdoors enthusiasts can find some of the region's best hikes in the mountains visible from the ballpark.
Right in San Bernardino, the Mitla Cafe, said to be the inspiration for Taco Bell, is as of as much socio-political importance as culinary renown; it was a key gathering place for Mexican-American families, activists and organizers, and a favorite of Cesar Chavez.
Visitors looking to make a theme out of popular food history can swing by the original McDonald's -- now a museum -- two miles across town.
Those who prefer their museums a little more arts-focused can check out Cal State San Bernardino's Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, then, maybe for some balance, head over to the Glen Helen Raceway to take in some motocross action.
The enormous Yaamava' Resort & Casino at San Manuel (owned and operated by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians), replete with several restaurants and live-performance venues, is within a half-hour drive.
If you haven't gotten your fill at Rosa Maria's or the Mitla Cafe, you can stop by Molly's Cafe within shouting distance of the ballpark, or take a quick drive across town for a Peruvian feast at El Rico Polo or Chinese cuisine at Happy Family Vegetarian.
Serious foodies who want some of the region's most acclaimed grub but don't want to drive all the way into L.A. may already know that the San Gabriel Valley, about an hour west by automobile, is loaded with world-class Chinese and Taiwanese restaurants.
Some readers will likely have already begun searching for rental cabins in the San Bernardino Mountains or in the desert to the east.
Others may have started checking rates at the Yaamava' Resort.
A number of hotels and motels are in the city of San Bernardino. Those who are planning to travel to LA on the day of or morning after a game may want to check out Casa 424, a boutique hotel in Claremont. The Mission Inn, a striking, upscale hotel and restaurant in Riverside, is about a 15-minute drive from the ballyard.
Southern California was practically built for the baseball-seeking roadtripper. Blink, and you're in Rancho Cucamonga to check out the rival Quakes -- the Dodgers' Low-A affiliate. Obviously, both Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium are within an easy jaunt, too. After an Angels game, why not scoot over the Santa Ana Mountains for a trip down the 15 freeway to catch the Lake Elsinore Storm, then carry on southward to catch the Padres in San Diego?
If it's early enough in the year, you may want to check out elite college ball at UC Riverside, UCLA, USC, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach and so on and so forth.
Literally speaking, all a 66er needs to do get to The Big A is hop on the 91 freeway southbound and make a turn in Orange County. To crack the Angels roster, though, he'll likely need to first advance to High-A Tri-City (in Pasco, Washington), Double-A Rocket City (Madison, Alabama) and Triple-A Salt Lake (Utah).
