Ascension Macomb has new technology to help patients with blood clots from COVID-19 – WXYZ

Posted: February 7, 2022 at 6:53 am

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) The omicron surge continues to put local hospitals in a tailspin. Now, doctors are seeing a rise in blood clots in patients suffering with COVID-19.

Where you land during an emergency could make the difference between life and death as one Macomb County woman found out when her life was on the line.

At the end of 2021 Christina Peak, a nurse, was not working. Three months pregnant, she found herself short of breath and feeling like she was running on a treadmill when she was only sitting.

I said my heart should not be beating that fast, Peak said.

Without health insurance and afraid of a big bill, she stayed home hoping she would feel better but instead, she fainted.

I said, you got to call 911. I said, something is not right, Peak said.

After passing out two more times, paramedics arrived. Her oxygen level and heart rate were low. She had pulmonary embolisms in both lungs and at risk of death.

I remember my niece hitting me and saying, Tee Tee, wake up, wake up. It's going to be OK, waking up, Peak said.

They raced her to Ascension Macomb-Oakland where Dr. Theodore Schreiber says they have pioneered brand innovative technology to deal with blood clots on the lungs.

How major of a case was hers?" WXYZs Carolyn Clifford asked Dr. Schreiber.

It was a very major case. Anytime someone has had a pulmonary embolism, has episodes where they faint and lost consciousness, pass out, that meant the heart is incapable of pumping enough blood to the vital organs, Schreiber said.

Ascension Macomb has a PERT team, which stands for Pulmonary Embolism Response Team. Even with an overload of COVID-19 patients, their emergency rooms know what to do when a patient has a clot.

Without a PERT team and had she not arrived to you, would she have died? Clifford asked.

Had she landed at another hospital without a PERT team and without the knowledge and experience we have at Ascension Macomb, she would have died, Schreiber said.

Knowing she was pregnant, doctors told her they had to save her first and time was critical.

If you go, then you and your baby will go as well, Schreiber said.

They first did the least invasive procedure to break up the clots by going up her groin.

It felt as if an elephant was on my chest, I mean I could not breathe, it was horrible, Peak said.

They quickly realized it did not work and she had to be rushed back to the operating room.

So, I'm trying to breath oxygen, 15 liters. And I still couldn't breathe at the point, it was like panicking, Peak said.

An entire team of doctors surrounded her.

I just remember throwing my hand in the air and saying, 'I quit. God, this is my time.' They were just so supportive, Peak said. I could actually feel that last blood clot pulled out. Oh my God, I can breathe.

Shreiber says before clot retriever technology, a patient like Peak would have needed open -heart surgery to remove her pulmonary embolisms.

It's the only easily available technology that's easily useable and safe to remove most if not all of the lung clots, Schreiber said.

Shreiber says since the pandemic began, the number of lung clots in patients doubled, tripled and quadrupled.

Risk factors include weight, exercise, heart disease, diabetes and if you are elderly. And a major risk factor now is the presence of COVID-19.

Did you realize how lucky you were going to a hospital with a PERT team? Clifford asked Peak.

To me, or it could be based on my intuition that was nothing but God, Peak said.

Shreiber says if you have any symptoms of pulmonary embolism including leg clots, which cause swelling, pain in your calves or new discoloration, seek medical attention immediately.

Genshin Impact: Everlasting Moonglow – How to get it, stats, and ascension materials – Gamepur

Posted: at 6:53 am

The Everlasting Moonglow is a 5-star Catalyst weapon that was released alongside Sangonomiya Kokomis initial run. Its a weapon specially made for the Hydro healer, Sangonomiya Kokomi, and has limited utility as a weapon overall.

To obtain the Everlasting Moonglow, youll need to pull on the limited weapons banner in the second half of Version 2.5. After the limited weapon banner featuring the Everlasting Moonglow ends, youll have to wait until its featured on another banner to obtain it.

The Everlasting Moonglow is one of the worst 5-star Catalyst weapons in the game, outclassed by a 3-star weapon in the support role. This weapon is literally only useful for one character in the game, in a role that is suboptimal for that character.

This character is Sangonomiya Kokomi, who can utilize the Everlasting Moonglows passive to assist her in a DPS build. However, this build pales in comparison to her support build, where the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayer provides more utility with the ATK buff on its passive.

Unless you are a die-hard Kokomi fan with plans to build her for damage, its highly recommended you dont pull this weapon. Its not good.

Prince Charles leads tribute on 70-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s ascension to throne – Hindustan Times

Posted: at 6:53 am

We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother's wish, Prince Charles said in a statement.

Britain's Prince Charles led tributes to his mother, Queen Elizabeth, on the 70-year anniversary of her accession to the throne on Sunday, saying it was an opportunity for the country to unite and celebrate her service to the nation.

Charles also thanked the queen for her statement on Saturday that she hoped the heir to the throne's wife, Camilla, would become Queen Consort when he becomes king.

"We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother's wish," he said in a statement. "As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout.

"The year of this unprecedented Platinum Jubilee brings an opportunity for us all to come together in celebrating the service of The Queen, by whose example we will continue to be led in the years to come."

When was the Queen crowned? How old was Elizabeth II when she took the throne and ascension meaning explained – NationalWorld

Posted: at 6:53 am

Queen Elizabeth II will become the first ever British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee later this year

Later this year, Queen Elizabeth II is set to become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee - 70 years on the throne.

While the Queen was crowned in 1953 in Westminster Abbey, her accession actually took place the year earlier, in February 1952.

This is everything you need to know.

When was the Queens accession?

Princess Elizabeth acceded the throne at the age of 25 after her father, King George VI died on 6 February 1952. She had been the eldest of the Kings two daughters, and was thus next in line to the throne.

The Kings death came after a prolonged illness, and he passed away during his sleep in the Royal Estate at Sandringham.

The Queen had been in Kenya during this time, and subsequently became the first Sovereign to accede while abroad in over 200 years.

When was the Coronation?

While the Queens accession to the throne occurred in February 1952, her Coronation did not take place for a while yet, on 2 June 1953 in Westminster Abbey. So while she acceded the throne at 25, she was crowned at age 27.

The Royal Family explains: The Coronation of the new Sovereign follows some months after his or her accession, following a period of mourning and as a result of the enormous amount of preparation required to organise the ceremony.

The Coronation was conducted by Dr Geoffrey Fisher, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and was attended by the likes of the Prime Minister and citizens of the other Commonwealth countries, and representatives of foreign states.

More than 20 million people watched the service when it was broadcast on television at the request of the Queen. While the day was plagued by heavy rain, crowds of spectators viewed the procession along the route.

The ceremony began at 11:15am and ran for nearly three hours, with the service split into six parts: the recognition, the oath, the anointing, the investiture (which included the crowning), the enthronement and the homage.

She became the sixth Queen, and the 39th Sovereign, to be crowned at Westminster Abbey.

In 2013, the Queen celebrated her 60th anniversary of her Coronation, which was marked with a festival in the garden of Buckingham Palace, hosted by the Royal Warrant Holders Association.

What is the Platinum Jubilee?

The Platinum Jubilee will mark the Queens 70th anniversary on the throne. While Sunday 6 February would technically mark the date that the Queen ascended to the throne, it is not a date that the Queen wishes to celebrate as it is also the date of her fathers death.

The Platinum Jubilee will thus be held on Friday 3 June later this year, with the Queen becoming the first ever British monarch to achieve such an occasion.

She became the longest reigning British monarch back in 2015, when she surpassed that of the previous record holder - her great-great-grandmother Victoria.

Queen Elizabeth II commemorated 65 years on the throne in 2017 with her Sapphire Jubilee, for which she is also the only British monarch to achieve.

Whats planned for the Platinum Jubilee?

The May Day bank holiday weekend will be shifted to Thursday 2 June, with an additional bank holiday on Friday 3 June to introduce a four day weekend to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

On Thursday 2 June, the Queens birthday parade, also known as Trooping the Colour, will be held, with over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians coming together in the traditional parade to mark the Queens official birthday.

Also on the Thursday, over 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, as is tradition to mark events like Royal Jubilees, weddings and Coronations.

On Friday a service of Thanksgiving for the Queens reign will be held at St Pauls Cathedral.

On Saturday 4 June, the Queen will attend the Derby at Epsom Downs, alongside members of the royal family. The BBC will also broadcast a Platinum Party at the Palace which will see some of the biggest names in the world of entertainment come together to celebrate the Queens seven decades on the throne.

Finally, on Sunday 5 June, members of the public are encouraged to take part in The Big Jubilee Lunch, where communities celebrate their connections and get to know each other a bit better, in the spirit of fun and friendship.

Also taking place on Sunday 5 June to wrap up the Platinum Jubilee celebrations is the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.

A pageant of over 5,000 people from across the UK and the Commonwealth will take place against the backdrop of Buckingham Palace, and the surrounding streets.

It will feature street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume, and celebrate the service of the Queens reign, as well as honouring the collective service of people and communities across the country.

Queen’s 70th anniversary: How Fife announced her ascension to the throne – Fife Today

Posted: at 6:53 am

Several thousands citizens gathered at the police headquarters on St Brycedale Road on Monday forenoon to listen to the formal announcement which followed the death of King George VI.

The Fife Free Press described it as a simple yet impressive ceremony which featured 1500 scholars - pupils of Kirkcaldy High and Dunnikier Schools - as well as dignitaries and members of the public.

Interestingly, women formed the major proportion of the crowd as they did for the memorial services held on the day the King was laid to rest.

They started to gather half an hour before the announcement was due to be made on a day when the sun shone brightly.

A dais had been placed at the gateway leading to the main entrance of the police headquarters. It was draped in black and purple.

The proclamation was announced by Provost James Young, and the band played God Save The Queen.

It was, said the Press, an impressive moment as men, women and children from every walk of life joined in adding: The ceremony concluded with Major Kigsland calling for three cheers for The Queen and these were heartily accorded.

The landmark ceremonies - The Queens ascension, and the funeral of her father - dominated civic life

On the day of his funeral, it was quite impossible for everyone to attend the memorial services held throughout Fife, and people paused for a moment to render thanks for a good King.

Noted the Press: At two oclock as the cortege approached St Georges Chapel, the two minutes silence was observed, and, for that space of time, the ordinary people remembered before carrying on once more with the daily tasks.

Kirkcaldys main service was held in the Old Kirk and the pews were packed.

Many citizens took up positions at vantage points at the Council Chambers to watch the procession led by three police officers.

The Burgh Halberdier followed, the halberd draped in black.

It was followed by Provost Young and a full mustering of Magistrates and Town Council in their robes of office

The pulpit was draped in black.

Similar gatherings were held in Kinghorn, Burntisland and St Serfs in Dysart.

And, for some, the funeral of King George was the very first time they had watched television.

This new form of communication didnt reach Scotland until March 1952, and desperate efforts were made by the GPO and the BBC to provide a service to Scottish licence holders.

It was announced that while the attempt would be made to televise the service via the Kirk OShotts transmitter, no guarantee could be given that satisfactory reception would be available.

Between 30 and 40 sets were delivered over the days leading up to the funeral, and judging from the lack of frantic telephone calls, it would appear that reception was good in each instance.

One Press reporter visited a local radio dealers premises where he had ten sets working from one aerial.

Crowds of people stood outside and inside during the service to see the first broadcast, and even more congregated after lunch for the final scenes from Windsor.

They maintained a dignified, solemn silence throughout.

The Queen: The story of Elizabeth’s ascension to the throne at 25 – Metro.co.uk

Posted: at 6:53 am

Shes the longest reigning monarch of all time, but Elizabeth almost never became Queen at all (Picture: Getty Images/REX)

Having been on the throne for 70 years, its hard to imagine that Elizabeth almost didnt become Queen.

Born on April 21, 1926, during the reign of her grandfather George V, she was third in line to become Britains monarch.

No one would have pictured her taking to the throne, as her uncle Prince Edward was next, followed by her father Prince Albert, the Duke of York.

Edward was still young enough that he would have been expected to settle down and have children, and Albert still had time to have a son.

Protocol at the time, which has since been changed, meant boys were placed before their sisters regardless of who was born first.

For this reason, the Duke and Duchess of York expected their daughter to live a life largely out of the spotlight.

She could have ended up as a more minor royal such as Princess Beatrice or Eugenie if things turned out as expected.

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a webbrowser thatsupports HTML5video

But all of that changed after Georges death in 1936. Edward succeeded then became the first English monarch to voluntarily renounce the throne.

He abdicated in December 1936 after less than a year as Head of State so he could marry American socialite Wallis Simpson.

Royals werent allowed to marry divorcees at the time due to their affiliation with the Church of England another rule that has since changed.

Before Wallis divorced British shipping executive Ernest Aldrich Simpson, rumours of an affair with Edward were rife in American gossip columns and the Continental press.

The British media remained silent on this particular topic, but Edward marrying a divorcee was enough to be considered a scandal.

But despite this, he decided to follow his heart and ended up moving with Wallis to Paris to start a new life together.

Edward had no children at the time, so it was Alberts turn to be King, choosing the regal name of George in honour of his late father.

This meant Elizabeth, now 10, was first in line to the throne, but still this could have changed if she had a brother on the way.

But George had no more children and died on February 6, 1952, aged 56, meaning Princess Elizabeth was to become Queen Elizabeth II.
