Alternative Therapies You Can Use to Maximize Your Mental Health – GQ
Posted: March 5, 2020 at 5:51 pm
We can all agree therapy is good and everyone deserves access to it. If youve gone through the laborious process of finding a therapist you like, and youre really working on talking things out now, great job! Also...remember how your therapist told you there are no simple answers in life?
Psychotherapy, or what most of us call talk therapy, is (alongside medication) about the most common mental health service people seek out. And it is very solidly backed by research as a helpful treatment for lots of people, including those with depression and anxiety. Of course, lots doesnt mean all. Not everyone has the insurance or financial means for it (though group therapy and therapist-in-training programs offer free or low-cost alternatives.) And everyone benefits in different ways from talking things out. For some people it really doesnt work, and for others its not good enough on its own.
The good news is that there are lots of other types of therapy out there, which traditional therapists generally approve ofthey may even be able to recommend what could work for you. These programs, practices, and treatments all fall under the broad category Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM)that means anything that still needs more well-designed studies to determine safety, exactly what it can treat, and how it should be applied.
How to navigate the options? Its right there in the name: sometimes its alternative if you prefer, say, collaging with a professional to just talking to them; other times its a complement, for those who may want to pair a CAM therapy with counseling. Other practices that fall under CAM, like yoga, are simply good practices that can have therapeutic effect or complement therapy. Some of these more alternative treatments just don't have as much research behind them as talk therapy does, says Vaile Wright, director of research and special projects in the Practice Directorate at the American Psychological Association. But, she says, a lot of behavioral health professionals look beyond talk therapy as a way to further bump up peoples quality of life. If talk therapy can get people 50 percent better, how do you get to 75 percent?
A lot of alternative therapies you might have heard of tap into what talk therapy usually doesnt: physicality. Think art, music, dance and other movement, gardening, or animal-assisted therapy (dogs, usually!). These can be fun and can fit with different peoples interests and values (which can make a huge difference in therapy), but theyre not yet evidence-supported as mental health treatments. Unbiased studies that do exist often test their promise in treating specific things: post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain. The good news is that they may still offer some mental health benefits for the obvious reason: creative, soothing activities can soothe you. Studies about art therapy, for example, do support the idea that it can have an immediate stress-reducing effectits just not clear yet how, say, people with anxiety would benefit from a specifically administered program. Similar conclusions have been reached for therapeutic interventions involving dog- and music-assisted therapy, basically for the reasons youd guess: dogs and music generally make us feel good. The bad news is that, as formal therapy programs, these are going to cost you just as much as talk therapy, and theyre even less likely to be covered by insurance.
Three other alternative therapies have shown promise, with varying degrees of supporting research. Bibliotherapy involves getting a syllabus of either self-help or fiction books with the former showing promise for people with depression and the latter showing slightly more ambiguous promise, therapeutically speaking. But again, being given a therapeutic list of novels may be soothing becausewho wouldnt want that? Biofeedback involves tracking bodily changes you may take for grantedheart rate, breathing, sweat gland activitythat are known to change with, say, anxiety. Training to control those reactions while hooked up to sensors in a therapists office has shown promise in helping with stress and anxiety. Perhaps the most evidence-based alternative therapies are mindfulness programs, like mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), which usually involves eight weeks of training in specific meditation techniques. Psychologists talk about decentering, getting away from your thoughts and looking at them more objectively, and meditative practice allows that, says David Shutleff, deputy director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health at the National Institutes of Health. Theres also evidence theyre actually changing your brain. New circuits are developing that give you more emotional control, understanding, and self reflection.

Creative Wellness: Three Decades of Commitment to Healthy Living – eastlansinginfo.org

The world of alternative medicine, holistic healing, acupuncture, and even massage therapy has increasingly become more mainstream over the past few years. Local wellness center, Creative Wellness staff and founders know firsthand just how transformative these types of medicine can be. The business has been a mainstay in the East Lansing area for almost three decades. Creative Wellness (2045 Asher Court, East Lansing) is celebrating its 30th anniversary, having first opened its doors for business on April 2, 1990.
The business was originally housed in less than 2,000 square feet, off of Abbot Road, by a team of six founders. Today, it operates with two co-directors, Irene Savoyat and Chris Reay. The pair said the initial mission of the center remains the same: to assist clients in achieving and maintaining ultimate wellness. Creative Wellness aims to build a bridge between conventional treatment and complimentary health services, something they were the first in the area to do. While rooted in massage therapy, the center offers Tai chi classes, meditation, yoga, energy work, baby massage, partner massage, and a variety of self-care classes.
Marketing director Anne Subrizi, said Creative Wellness services include massage, acupuncture, and meditation all methods which work well in conjunction with conventional medicine and treatments. The business goal is to provide an oasis, a respite where people can relax, knowing theyre under the care of skilled professionals.
Currently, they have 47 employees, with a couple dozen of massage therapists, and are continually growing with several massage therapy positions open to qualified applicants. Throughout this growth, Reay has seen an increased level of support from the medical community working hand-in-hand with health care centers and physicians.
Creative Wellness services include massage, acupuncture, and meditation all methods which work well in conjunction with conventional medicine and treatments.
They trust us to provide quality, complimentary care, and to work together with them on their health care, Reay said. We have also seen a great increase in the number of insurance companies who are now covering this care increased number of comprehensive health plans that now cover, in addition to chiropractic, medically necessary massage therapy, as well as acupuncture.
Savoyat said this acceptance by the science and medical communities have opened the floodgate for those looking to increase their wellness. Doctors are now prescribing and referring patients to attend meditation and yoga classes as a means of coordinated care. Creative Wellness has begun receiving referrals from the Veterans Health Administration, offering massage therapy and chiropractic methods to veterans with acute and chronic pain from military service.
The most-used form of alternative medicine that Creative Wellness offers, which many are not aware of is acupuncture in Chinese medicine. This can help alleviate symptoms from gastrointestinal, gynecological, respiratory, circulatory disorders, as well chemotherapy and radiation side effects.
Throughout the 75 different community events Creative Wellness donates gift certificates, or time to including races, wellness days, staff appreciation days, and more, Anne said there is one thing people are most curious about.
When we go out into the community, what people are most interested in talking to us about is acupuncture, Subrizi said. Acupuncture, 30 years ago, but even in the last five to ten years, has become more mainstream. Its another thing in terms of this community, that we offer, but there are not a lot of people here that offer it.
In turn, the East Lansing community has supported Creative Wellness, having awarded Crystal Awards, local best of awards to individual massage therapists, and mentions from Chamber of Commerce as well. Today, the locations 10,000+ square foot space remains rooted in the goal of encouraging patients to become active participants in their individual health journeys.
Currently, the center is in the midst of becoming a partner within the Medicare network. Medicare just announced they are covering acupuncture for low back pain, based on research studies, Reay said. Theres a lot of paperwork and hoops to go through to both qualify, and maintain the relationship with Medicare, but were doing that in order to increase access. That will help our retired community members in East Lansing, and the elderly in this area.
For Savoyat, and fellow staff, the business is thankful and humbled by the continued support, and hope to celebrate another 30 years as a business.
We are grateful to the community of East Lansing who has welcomed us, and supported us all these years, grateful to the wonderful clients who have entrusted their health and well-being to us, and grateful to our remarkable staff members, who by their professional skills and thoughtfulness, do their best every day, to be there for each client who comes in the door, Savoyat said. You all have helped us make Creative Wellness what it is today.

Fountain Hills massage therapist accused of sexually assaulting female patients – 12news.com KPNX
Posted: at 5:51 pm
FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. A Maricopa County massage therapist was arrested Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting his customers.
Gary Nash, 62, is accused of groping, sexually touching and penetrating five female patients while claiming that it was part of the procedure.
Nash operated the Fountains of Youth Renewal Center in Fountain Hills which offered massage therapy and alternative medicine even though Nash is not licensed or trained in the practice.
Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone says Nash preyed on women suffering from ailments ranging from arthritis to diseases and claimed to provide a remedy.
"He would groom them and gain their trust," Penzone said. He found a way to put them in a vulnerable position and took advantage."
Investigators were tipped off by one victim and detectives reached out to the other four. The victims range in age between 37 and 53.
One woman claims the crimes had been ongoing since 2013 and up to last month.
Another alleged victim says she was charged $25,000 for the procedures, and that Nash requested another $35,000 for essential oils.
The confidentiality and trust expected in a doctor/patient relationship was the tactic this criminal used to abuse victims in their vulnerable state. This guise in portraying himself as a legitimate medical provider is a disturbing and disgusting predatory abuse, Penzone said.
The sheriff's office believes more victims may be out there and are asking them to reach out to investigators.
Nash was charged with over 30 counts of various sex crimes on top of fraud and practicing medicine without a license.
Nash faced a judge Wednesday and denied the allegations against him.
"I maintain that I did everything with accountability and with permission and with the appropriate licenses," Nash said to the judge.
Nash's bond was set at $50,000. He was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims and he will be electronically monitored. His next court date is on March 10.

The Newest Alternative Health Fad: Vaping Essential Oils – Study Breaks
Posted: at 5:51 pm
Post Views: 687
In the past couple of years, vaping has seemed to emerge everywhere, particularly concentrated in college-aged populations. On the other side of the health spectrum, there has also seemed to be a rise in alternative medicine essential oils being one of the many options for natural wellness.
The two phenomena have been combined into whats called a personal diffuser, or a device that allows vaporizing essential oils of your choice to become possible.
Vaping is the inhalation and exhalation of vapor from either a vape pen or e-cigarette, devices that are typically defined as electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDs). Yet, not all vaping necessarily involves nicotine weed vape pens, CBD vape pens and now essential oil vape pens are becoming more and more common.
Essential oil/aromatherapy vape pens are typically labeled as diffuser sticks or personal diffusers. These devices combine essential oils, water and vegetable glycerin to create a cloud of vapor when exhaled. On the MONQ website, they claim that when using one of their personal diffusers, one should not inhale the vapor into their lungs as that will lower the effectiveness of the aromatherapy experience.
Essential oils are compounds extracted from different plants, such as lavender, peppermint, tea tree or eucalyptus, for various healing purposes. The extraction methods for getting these compounds vary based on what plant is being used. Some more common methods include steam distillation, cold-press extraction or water distillation.
To receive the benefits of essential oils, people typically apply them to their skin or inhale them via a diffuser. When an essential oil such as tea tree or lavender oil is applied topically, to heal an ache or pain or for cosmetic purposes, the compounds from the oil absorb into the skin and eventually into the bloodstream.
People who vaporize essential oils and inhale them via a diffuser are usually seeking out the psychological benefits of the compound. When an essential oil is inhaled, it enters into our respiratory systems, creating a potential psychological response via association. This is why many people believe that the results of essential oils are subjective, as different smells mean different things to all of us and can thus ignite various emotional responses.
Although essential oils have been used for health purposes for centuries, theres still very little conclusive research published about their benefits.
Each plant that essential oils are derived from will be unique, which are dependent on several environmental factors, such as the weather and geographical location. Unlike a synthetically produced prescription or pharmaceutical drug, essential oils will contain different chemistry each time they are produced. Because of this, essential oils cannot be standardized, which blocks any potential research on their effectiveness.
When studying the benefits of essential oils, it can be difficult to determine what causes the advantages that they may or may not be giving off. For example, when lavender oil is applied with a massage, it is hard to decipher whether the oil or massage itself is producing the desired effects of stress relief.
Stemming from the small amount of research about essential oils themselves, studies on the effectiveness of personal diffuser methods of essential oils are pretty much non-existent.
Despite all this inconclusive research, essential oils are still believed to be effective by a third of American adults, one poll found. And the oils havent proven to be completely useless. Lavender oil, for example, has been linked with improved sleep. Its also worth arguing for the placebo effect here if you feel better, calmer or healthier when youre using essential oils, then theres relatively no harm done.
Like any method of healing, alternative or otherwise, essential oils come with their own set of minor to major risks. As with vaping, some people with asthma may have a reaction to inhaling the diffused aroma of essential oils. Many people have also reported experiencing allergic reactions when using essential oil products.
Again, because theres not much conclusive research on the practices of essential oils, and the practices of vaping, theres also not much out there about the safety of vaporizing essential oils via a personal diffuser. The MONQ websites safety page cautions against anyone 18 or under using their products. They warn their users about the hand-to-mouth habits associated with personal diffusers, as that may lead to the negative habit of smoking or vaping nicotine.
If you choose to participate in vaporizing essential oils, its best to research as much as possible about the safety practices behind what product you are using. Whether its a faulty fad or a beneficial practice that has not yet been determined, always do what is best for your mind and body.

‘Necrotizing Pneumonia’ May Be New Vaping Hazard – HealthDay
Posted: at 5:51 pm
WEDNESDAY, March 4, 2020 (HealthDay News) -- E-cigarettes were initially thought to be a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, but a recent outbreak of serious lung illnesses and deaths linked to the nicotine delivery devices called that belief into question.
Now, a new case report details another type of lung illness in a 15-year-old girl who regularly used e-cigarettes: necrotizing pneumonia.
Necrotizing pneumonia is an uncommon complication of pneumonia. It destroys areas of lung tissue, and can occur even if someone has been treated with antibiotics, according to a previous review in Biomed Central.
"It's pretty unusual for a generally healthy person to get an invasive pneumonia like this, but not impossible," said Dr. Ravi Kalhan, a professor of medicine and preventive medicine in the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. Kalhan was not involved in the current case, but is familiar with the new report.
He said experts can't know for sure if vaping caused this particular illness, but animal studies have suggested impaired immune defenses in the lungs.
"The idea that in this case vaping created a setup for severe pneumonia in an individual is a reasonable hypothesis, but a single case does not prove it," Kalhan said.
What is already known, however, is that more than 2,800 people across all 50 states have been hospitalized with life-threatening respiratory dysfunction tied to recent e-cigarette use, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sixty-eight of those patients died.
Research strongly suggests that an additive called vitamin E acetate, sometimes used in pot-laced vapes, may be triggering these illnesses.
But health experts have also raised a more general alarm about soaring rates of e-cigarette use among teens. A CDC report from November reported that about 1 in every 5 high school students had used e-cigarettes within the past month.
The new case report, written by Dr. Joseph Domachowske and colleagues from Upstate Medical University, State University of New York in Syracuse, revealed that the teen patient had a habit of daily nicotine vaping. She used e-cigarettes several times each hour, and had done so for the past nine months. Like many people who use e-cigarettes, the girl used flavored nicotine, including apple, mango, cotton candy and birthday cake flavors.
She said she used both disposable and refillable penlike vape devices. She said she hadn't altered the devices in any way. The girl admitted to occasionally smoking marijuana, but not with an e-cigarette.
In September 2019, she went to the hospital complaining of difficulty breathing. She had been sick for about a week prior.
Imaging of her lungs showed that lung tissue damage had occurred.
Luckily, she responded well to treatment and was released after more than a week in the hospital, including six days in the ICU.
But she has yet to fully recover. Before this report, the doctors had seen the teen one month after she completed a three-week course of antibiotics. She still couldn't climb more than a flight of stairs without getting out of breath. She also couldn't walk quickly from one class to another without getting winded.
Dr. Len Horovitz, a pulmonary specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, was not part of the study, but said this appeared to be "yet another horror story of vaping."
He added that this unusual case seems to represent a previously undescribed cause of vaping-related pneumonia.
Kalhan said that this report, published March 4 in the journal Pediatrics, and the many previous lung injury cases, suggest one thing.
"I think it's clear that vaping is definitely not good for you," he said.
"Inhaling anything but air is a risky behavior. We don't know at all what the true short- and long-term effects are of vaping, and speculation that it's safe [or safer than cigarettes] is just that -- speculation. The effects have not been carefully studied and need to be. In the meantime, I'd just remind people that the lungs were designed to inhale AIR, and that's it. Not anything else," Kalhan advised.

When used individually, or as adjuvant therapies alongside mainstream treatments, a numberof alternative practices can help people achieve better mental health and wellness. Astudy published in the BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine journal concludedthat yoga, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy wereeffective in promoting overall mental health. Similarly, a study published intheJournal of Evidence-BasedIntegrative Medicinefound that anhour-long soundmeditation session helped people reduce tension, anger, fatigue, anxiety, anddepressionwhile increasing a sense of spiritual well-being.Here are some therapies that can help:
Sound healing
Sound healing or music therapy is an ancient knowledge that has been used forcenturies as a healing tool. The use of music, singing, and instruments that releasevibrations to improve the mental, emotional and physical state of a person is a practicethat can effectively be termed as vibrational medicine.
Sound healing creates a shift inthe brainwave state allowing the mind to go from the normal beta state (normal wakingconsciousness) to the alpha state (relaxed consciousness), quite similar to meditation.Sound healing particularly helps in conditions like anxiety, stress, depression and sleepdisorders.
Mindfulness meditation
Sages and saints spent years meditating onthe truth of the self and achieved a higher mental and spiritual elevation through theprocess. Mindfulness meditation is a process that trains the mind to focus on thepresent, moment by moment, breath by breath. Rooted in Buddhism, it involves using breathing techniques and generating completeawareness of the mind and body by becoming highly aware of the present. People who learn the art are said to be calmer, clearer and less stressed in their daily lives.
Yoga
Yoga helps achieve a peacefulalignment between the body and mind. It modulates the stress response systems bytraining the mind to perceive stress and anxiety differently. It not only relieves symptoms of stress and anxiety, but also helps curtail thenegative impact of stress on the body and reduces risk factors for chronic diseases, suchas heart disease and high blood pressure.
A study published in the journalFrontiers inPsychiatry found that yoga had positive effects on people with mild depression and sleep problems. It also improved symptoms of psychiatric disorders like schizophreniaand ADHD among patients using medication.

Immediate Release Oral Oxycodone HCl Associated with a Dose-Dependent Decrease in Respiratory Drive Compared to Placebo
RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 27, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (NASDAQ: BDSI), a rapidly growing specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to patients living with serious and complex chronic conditions, today presented at the American Academy of Pain Medicines (AAPM) 36th Annual Meeting the results of a study titled, A Phase I Placebo-Controlled Trial Comparing the Effect of Buprenorphine Buccal Film and Oral Oxycodone Hydrochloride on Respiratory Drive.
In May 2019, in response to significant challenges chronic pain patients face in obtaining adequate care and the ongoing opioid crisis, The Pain Management Best Practices Inter-Agency Task Force report recommended more research activities directed to better understanding the use of buprenorphine, a Schedule III opioid. Opioids can cause serious, life-threatening, or fatal respiratory depression. Respiratory depression is a breathing disorder characterized by slow and ineffective breathing and is the leading cause of opioid related deaths. In this clinical trial, BDSI evaluated the effect of BELBUCA (buprenorphine buccal film), a Schedule III opioid, and oral oxycodone HCI, a Schedule II opioid, on respiratory drive.
Study Design: Study subjects (N = 19) were healthy males and females self-identifying as recreational drug users and determined via naloxone challenge to not be physically dependent on opioids.
Effect on respiratory drive was assessed using a double-blind, double-dummy, 6-treatment, 6-period, placebo controlled, randomized crossover design.
Treatments studied included single doses of: BELBUCA (300 mcg, 600 mcg, and 900 mcg); oral oxycodone hydrochloride (Oxy 30 mg and 60 mg); and placebo (each separated by a 7-day washout period).
Respiratory drive was evaluated by measuring the ventilatory response to hypercapnia (excess carbon dioxide in the bloodstream) through assessment of the maximum change in minute ventilation (Emax), which is the maximum amount inhaled or exhaled in one minute, after administration of each study drug. Statistical analyses were performed using a linear mixed-effects model.
Results: The least square mean differences in Emax versus placebo were as follows: Oxy 30 mg (828.5, P=0.668); Oxy 60 mg (5188.6, P=0.008); BELBUCA 300 mcg (+1206.9, P=0.533); BELBUCA 600 mcg (+245.4, P=0.896); and BELBUCA 900 mcg (+1473.3, P=0.440).
A chart/graphic accompanying this announcement is available at:https://www.globenewswire.com/NewsRoom/AttachmentNg/d148dcf8-f359-4b36-ada6-dd34da39f6e6
Conclusion: BELBUCA effect on respiratory drive was comparable to placebo at all doses tested.
The effect of immediate release oral oxycodone HCl resulted in a dose-dependent decrease in respiratory drive compared to placebo.
This is an important and novel study that shows the comparative effects of buprenorphine buccal film and oral oxycodone on respiratory drive, stated Lynn Webster, M.D., the principal investigator of the study. Thomas Smith, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at BDSI, added, Consistent with the Task Forces recommendation, BDSI is providing the medical community with the results of this safety study to help providers make informed treatment decisions. This study provides additional scientific support for the use of BELBUCA as a primary treatment option for the management of pain severe enough to require daily, around-the-clock, long-term opioid treatment and for which alternative treatment options are inadequate.
Serious, life-threatening, or fatal respiratory depression may occur with use of BELBUCA. BELBUCA is contraindicated in patients with significant respiratory depression; acute or severe bronchial asthma in an unmonitored setting or in the absence of resuscitative equipment; known or suspected gastrointestinal obstruction, including paralytic ileus; and hypersensitivity (e.g., anaphylaxis) to buprenorphine.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION ABOUT BELBUCA
INDICATIONBELBUCA (buprenorphine buccal film) is indicated for the management of pain severe enough to require daily, around-the-clock, long-term opioid treatment and for which alternative treatment options are inadequate.
Limitations of Use
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION about BELBUCA
Addiction, Abuse, and Misuse
BELBUCA exposes patients and other users to the risks of opioid addiction, abuse, and misuse, which can lead to overdose and death. Assess each patients risk prior to prescribing BELBUCA, and monitor regularly for these behaviors and conditions.
Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS)
To ensure that the benefits of opioid analgesics outweigh the risks of addiction, abuse, and misuse, the FDA has required a REMS for these products. Under the requirements of the REMS, drug companies with approved opioid analgesic products must make REMS-compliant education programs available to healthcare providers. Healthcare providers are strongly encouraged to
Serious, life-threatening, or fatal respiratory depression may occur with use of BELBUCA. Monitor for respiratory depression, especially during initiation of BELBUCA or following a dose increase. Misuse or abuse of BELBUCA by chewing, swallowing, snorting, or injecting buprenorphine extracted from the buccal film will result in the uncontrolled delivery of buprenorphine and poses a significant risk of overdose and death.
Accidental Exposure
Accidental exposure to even one dose of BELBUCA, especially in children, can result in a fatal overdose of buprenorphine.
Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome
Prolonged use of BELBUCA during pregnancy can result in neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, which may be life-threatening if not recognized and treated. If prolonged opioid use is required in a pregnant woman, advise the patient of the risk of neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome and ensure that appropriate treatment will be available.
Risks from Concomitant Use with Benzodiazepines Or Other CNS Depressants
Concomitant use of opioids with benzodiazepines or other central nervous system (CNS) depressants, including alcohol, may result in profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death. Reserve concomitant prescribing for use in patients for whom alternative treatment options are inadequate; limit dosages and durations to the minimum required; and follow patients for signs and symptoms of respiratory depression and sedation.

Adaptogens: As Alternative Medicine, another Way To Be Healthy – The Costa Rica News
Posted: February 27, 2020 at 1:42 am
Adaptogens are any substance external to an organism that increases its energy, organization and biochemical intelligence in parallel or separately that will result in an automatic increase in endurance level, without side effects.
According to the scientific definition, this should increase the resistance of the organism, without causing negative consequences by strengthening the nervous and endocrine systems. This indirectly also provides an increase in other systems such as cardiovascular, immune and circulatory, among others.
The term adaptogens is a neologism, that is to say, a new word that starts from the concept of adaptation. Everything is based on the discovery of certain plants and their organic tannins, which increases peoples resistance and accommodation to certain difficult conditions of life.
Benefits.
How do Adaptogens work?
They tend to work at the cellular level to help the body to counteract stress conditions. When the body is subjected to stressors, certain bad molecules block the transformation of sugar into energy by the cell; adaptogens can counteract the harmful effects by inhibiting damaged molecules, thus stimulating the conversion of sugar into cellular energy.
Properties.
Adaptogens vs. Vitamins.
Vitamins are part of the internal biochemical processes. And they contribute to well-being in the sense that their deficiency causes disease. In other words, the vitamin does not cure diseases unless they are caused by their lack-off. On the other hand, adaptogens enhance well-being continually.
Both support the intelligence, energy, and organization of the biological system. Vitamins are indispensable for the normal functioning of the body, without them the organism would die, while adaptogens are not essential when there is an optimal health situation.
Vitamin components help keep the body healthy, however, they do not heal a sick person alone. Adaptogens help prevents diseases and can cure. Some vitamins are antioxidants, while most of the adaptogens also are and in a higher proportion than vitamins.
Healing and prevention.
The primary adaptogens are those that are used in a preventive way when the organism is in the alarm phase and chronic disease has not yet occurred, strengthening the nervous, endocrine, immune and especially the cardiovascular system.
At the time when there is evidence of chronic disease, it is necessary for addition to using the primary adaptogens, to prescribe the secondary bidirectional adaptogens described for specific pathologies. As these repair possible damages. If physical ailments or organic malfunctions occur, then you must work with both adaptogens (primary and secondary) whose combination allows therapeutic effects.
Primary Adaptogens:
Astragalus
Optimizes the functioning of the heart, improves the pulmonary system, increases sperm motility, and regulates blood pressure among other benefits.
Asiatic Spark.
It is a diuretic, healing, cleansing blood purifier of the lymphatic system and contributes to weight loss.
American Ginseng
Essential in cases of breast cancer, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, contributes to the immune system.
White Korean Gingseng.
It provides mental energy and fights stress.
Secondary Adaptogens:
Black Acerola.
Avoids uterine cramps, predisposition to abortion, antispasmodic.
Milk Thistle.
Combats hepatitis, bile deficiency, cirrhosis, liver poisoning. It helps with breastfeeding.
Horsetail.
Collagen source, against kidney stones, incontinence and promotes healing of fractures.
White Hawthorn.
Prevents poor blood flow to the heart, cholesterol, irregular pressure and arrhythmia.
