CapFed Best News: Candy, games and school supplies among items donated to Boys & Girls Clubs during Stuff the Bus – The Topeka Capital-Journal

Boys &Girls Clubs of Topeka hit the streets Tuesday to collect donated supplies from local organizations and businesses that will in turn benefit youths at Boys &Girls Clubs.

The organization first visited the Topeka Police Department and Shawnee County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday morning and collected school supplies and projectors.

Boys &Girls Clubs then took its van to Mars during the afternoon and collected candy, puzzles and games, yoga matsand school supplies.

Brian Pardo, Mars factory director, said the business has participated in Stuff the Bus since its inception and it is an event thatemployees look forward to each year.

"We just want to say thanks for letting us be apart of it and we are glad we can contribute to the community in this way," Pardo said.

Supplieswere also donatedbyJunior League of Topeka.

Pat Colley, Stuff the Bus event organizer and SE2 operations director, said theevent has brought in more than $71,000 worth of supplies and monetary donations in the past five years.

"This year we will be pushing $85,000 (or) $90,000 and we can't wait to get to that $100,000 mark," Colley said.

Colley founded the event in 2016 while he was involved in Leadership Greater Topeka.

The continued community support means a lot to Colley, who is a Topeka native.

"For me, it's big because I know the great work (Boys &Girls Clubs)do with youth in our community and that's big for me," Colley said. "I've got my own kids, and they are our future. They are what's going to be there for us tomorrow, and the work they do is great. They need that support and extra help.
