LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas A 22-year-old man wanted on a manslaughter charge surrendered to the Liberty County Sheriffs Office on Thursday, deputies said.

Michael Gary Shannon III, of Hull, Texas, was indicted by a Liberty County grand jury on Sept. 26 for a charge of manslaughter in connection with a vehicle wreck that killed a baby, deputies said. The fatal wreck happened in May 2012 near FM 770 and FM 160.

The crash investigation was conducted by another agency, but prior to Shannons surrender on Thursday, the warrant had not been served.

In recent days, Liberty County deputies had received information that Shannon was in the Beaumont area and a telephone number was provided.

On Thursday, deputies contacted Shannon by phone, and advised him that a warrant for manslaughter was outstanding for his arrest.

Shannon told deputies he was unaware that he had been indicted, and that he would come to the Sheriffs Department to surrender on the charge.
