Fire, Liberty post wins in Millburn Township girls basketball playoffs

Chloe Zegas scored eight points Feb. 16, pacing the third-seeded Fire to a 10-4 defeat of the sixth-seeded Monarchs in the quarterfinals of the Millburn Department of Recreation and Parks' fourth grade girls basketball playoffs at Deerfield School in Short Hills.

In the evening's other quarterfinal, Taylor Nemet dropped in eight points, propelling the fourth-seeded Liberty to a 10-4 defeat of the fifth-seeded Blizzard.

The Liberty held an 8-0 lead after the first quarter.

Elizabeth Parlavecchio scored four points in a losing effort.

The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 3, at Hartshorn School in Short Hills.

The top-seeded Mercury will oppose the Liberty in the first semifinal at 9 a.m.

The second-seeded Comets and the Fire meet in the second semifinal at 10 a.m.

The championship game is scheduled for Monday, March 5, 6 p.m. at Millburn Middle School.
