There's a reason that Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music is a SPIN Essential, and a song like "Reagan" exemplifies that reason. Over a crunchy dystopic El-P beat, the Atlanta MC, in the words of our own Christopher R. Weingarten, "somehow contextualizes Ollie North, Reaganomics, and preRodney King police brutality for a 2012 audience." The song is well matched by a brand new animated video, premiered over at Pitchfork and embedded below, which portrays the titular president as a mere puppet caught in a complicated web of crossed marionette strings and wagging fingers. In the beginning, a disgruntled citizen walks down a boulevard filled with shops that advertise, "Hawt Shit," "Fresh Kiks," "Drink Ketchup," and "Shiney Stuff." By the end, revenge comes in the form of a huge robot controlled by an unexpected antagonist.
