A TikTok chef from Dublin has given one bit of key advice to save money on your grocery shop.

Daniel Lambert, who lives in Donegal, became a TikTok sensation over lockdown when he lost his job and had plenty of time on his hands. Since then, hes gained millions of likes on TikTok along with hundreds and thousands of followers. He has also featured on a FM104 series online and regularly appears on Ireland AM to show off his scrumptious recipes.

Daniel told Dublin Live: I got bored in lockdown. Everyone started running or doing fitness. I was working crazy hours as a chef so I said to myself I'd start a project. Everyone was on TikTok, the dances and the songs were really annoying so I said I'd give cooking a go. I eventually got an email from FM104 asking to do a documentary series.

I didnt have a lot of money at the time but I put my own twist on recipes. I cant make a normal lasagne, I have to make a chicken curry lasagne but it keeps people entertained and interested in the content.

Daniel has one golden rule when it comes to saving money in the kitchen. He shops in bulk and repeats his ingredients throughout the week. He says the humble potato is key to saving money in the shops.

He said: Potatoes are a big thing, people love spuds. Spuds are cheap, theyre easily accessible to people and you can cook a lot of things with them. One day I'd make a spaghetti bolognese so if you double the amount of mince you can use the rest to make a lasagne the next day.

Ill make mashed potato for a roast dinner one day and then the next day I'll make potato croquettes. There's so many things like shepherds pie. Its all about buying in bulk. You need to shop around the place and get the best deals.

For someone whos not familiar with cooking too, Id suggest getting a book on midweek meals, theres a lot of stuff in my book as well.

The new-generation chef also has a recipe book called Lush coming out this week. It includes chapters such as Potato Party, The Cure, and So Wrong But So Right. It features 100 easy-to-make recipes and with repetition of ingredients, youre not spending an arm and a leg to make a delicious dinner.
