Ludhiana, September 17

The anti-smuggling cell of the Ludhiana police raided a house in Preet Nagar and arrested 10 persons on the charge of gambling.

Those arrested have been identified as Anil Kumar Titu of Preet Nagar, Amit Kumar of Gobind Nagar, Ajay Kumar Babbal of Fateh Singh Nagar, Mohit Kumar of Daba Colony, Beas Shah of Ittan Wala Chowk, Mandeep Singh Aman of Kot Mangal Singh, Surinder Singh of Preet Nagar, Sunil of Barota Road, Amarjit Niku of Azad Nagar and Ashpal Tinku of Daba Colony. Jajji, Bhawar, Kala and Jagga escaped.

In charge of anti-smuggling cell Yashpal Sharma said during the raid, the police also recovered Rs 1.08 lakh in cash and playing cards from the spot.

Sharma said the police had received a tip-off that several persons were gambling in the house of Titu at Preet Nagar.

A case under the Gambling Act has been registered against the suspects and efforts are on to nab their accomplices, added Yashpal.

The police have intensified action against gamblers in the region. TNS
