Michael TenHaken and his daughter Lacie Navin became invested in Your CBD Store after TenHaken said he saw remarkable results from the companys products in 2018.

Now they own seven franchise locations in Iowa, including one that opened at North Grand Mall in Ames this fall.

My dad had fibromyalgia, and we know a family who hasa Your CBD Store in Davenport, Navin said.

TenHaken found out about the companys tincture, which are sublingual drops, and topical cream, and decided to give them a try.

In four months, Dad weaned off of every medication, Navin said. I saw it work, which is how I got into it. Im a skeptic, in general, but seeing it work in my dad caused me to learn more about it and the endocannabinoid system.

TenHaken was in a different business when he tried CBD for the first time. He'd suffered from fibromyalgia since the 1990s.

Seven days later, it was just like a miracle, he said. My day used to consist of sales meetings starting at 8 a.m. By 10:15, I would go into my office, shut off the lights, and I had a little bed made up under my desk. Id get in there and sleep for an hour, two hours, three hours, whatever.

TenHaken would wake up, work for a few hours and take another nap. He had nerve and joint pain, especially in his arms and legs.

Even having his shirt touch his skin could be excruciating, he said. He could never get comfortable, and therefore could never sleep well, so chronic fatigue was another effect of the disease.

I havent had a single medication since July of 2017 not a sleeping pill, not anything, he said. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1999. I just thought it was my life.

TenHaken and Navin dont claim any of their products will have medical or therapeutic results, but there are anecdotal stories.

One customer, Doris Walsh of Montour, has a Chiari malformation that causes chronic headaches.

I find more relief with the CBDs, and I dont want to take opiates, Walsh told the Ames Tribune. But the CBD products help me keep the pain at a level thats manageable. And if I need more, I can take more and not have to worry about overdosing. Its made a huge difference for me.

"SunMed is made with organically grown hemp, TenHaken said. We buy some in Iowa, some in Colorado and some in Michigan, and then its processed down in Florida.

The certification was an exhaustive process that took more than two years to complete. Everything was tested the bottles, the droppers, the growing location and the processing location, TenHaken said.

As Navin explains, a cannabinoid is a non-psychoactive, naturally occurring compound extracted from hemp plants. They will not create a high and are non-addictive, she said. Your CBD Store has products that contain CBD, the most commonly known cannabinoid, as well as CBG (cannabigerol) and CBN (cannbinol).

Its unregulated, so we self-regulate, Navin said. And we have gone through some regulation because of our organic certification.

Products include terpene-rich tinctures, which are oil-baseddropsapplied under the tongue, and water solubles, which can be added to any water-based beverage. New products include raw hemp flour that can be used in smoothies and baking, and a line of weight loss capsules called Trim.

We have been thrilled with the response we have been getting from Story County residents who have been traveling long distances or getting products online, TenHaken added. Our stores are much more like Cannabidiol learning centers than retail outlets as there are still so many misnomers and questions about the benefits of CBD products.
