BATON ROUGE, La. A pastor came to Kecia Wires place of work when her son was maybe 8 or 9 with a question about the young boy. Hed heard about Cameron Wires size. Then he saw it himself.

Is he interested in playing football? the pastor asked. But Wires first love was basketball. Playing football had never truly occurred to him. Still, Kecia was going to hear the pastor out, so a few days later he sent former NFL tight end Shawn Nelson an East Ascension High (La.) alumnus and youth coach Jeff Daniels to the Wire home to pitch them on football. They showed Kecia a video of the local team, the Prairieville Broncos, and explained what Wires future could be if he committed himself to this game.

Football history is littered with tales of large young athletes with all the upside in the world and the mission to get the most out of those large frames.

The rest is here:
