Members of civil society organisations and various political outfits on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office here.

They demanded the Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry to immediately intervene and remove Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor Chandra Krishnamoorthy.

The agitators led by G. Sugumaran, Secretary, Federation for Peoples Rights, said that a professors association had questioned her credentials to hold the post and also sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into various irregularities reported in the University.

The agitators also demanded that the University authorities initiate disciplinary action against three employees of the University for assaulting an activist of Periyar Dravida Kazhagam while he had put up posters condemning the Vice-Chancellor.
