The plot surrounding the Petraeus affair is thickening and is becoming ever more confusing. Former Gen. David Petraeus and his successor made a comedy of the military, when they helped a woman, who was deemed mentally unstable by a judge, in her bitter custody battle mdash; less than two weeks after the US was dealing with one of the worst terrorist attacks against its embassy in Lybia. Head of the CIA, Petraeus, and Gen. John Allen, the top military commander in Afghanistan, each wrote supportive letters to a judge on behalf of Natalie Khawam. Who on earth is Khawam you may ask?Khawam and her twin sister, Jill Kelley, are the focal points of the bizarre scandal that forced the married Petraeus to resign last weekend and has the two decorated commanders looking like fools. Defense officials and people close to Petraeus say neither he nor Allen had a romantic relationship with Kelley, a 37-year-old wife and mother, who is described as a prominent presence in military circles in Tampa, whatever tat means. She may also have been seen as a rival by Petraeus #39; biographer, Paula Broadwell, who sent supposedly sent Kelley a series of anonymous, harassing emails, which started an investigation that uncovered evidence of an affair between Petraeus and Broadwell.
