Drinkers at a pub called the Black Boy are outraged by plans to give it a more politically-correct name.

JD Wetherspoon, which bought the boozer in Newtown, mid-Wales, wants to call it the Llywelyn ap Gruffydd after the countrys last sovereign prince.

But locals said they had no issue with the pubs 17th century name and the new one would be impossible to pronounce after a few drinks.

One said: "I've been drinking my ale at the Black Boy for years and I've never had a problem with the name.

"I don't see what all the fuss is about - the Black Boy is part of this town's history. It really is political correctness gone mad."

Wetherspoon said it would re-consider.
