Craig Carton To Host Responsible Gambling Show On WFAN – NJ Online Gambling

Posted: December 15, 2020 at 3:01 am

Craig Carton now has a weekend gig.

The WFAN drive-time talk show host and recovering gambling addict will be hosting what his bosses at the station describe as a responsible gambling show. It will air Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and be called Hello, My Name is Craig.

The show is set to begin in January.

And while it may seem incongruous that a talk show host who is an admitted gambling addict would be hosting a gambling-related talk show, it should be noted 1-800-GAMBLER is partnering with the station on the program.

Theyre going to bring their expertise into it, Carton said Thursday on his show with Evan Roberts, according to a Newsday report. Ill tell the stories of gambling and the way my addiction manifested itself in the bad decisions I made, which became criminal.

Carton, a resident of Chester and former co-host of the Boomer and Carton show on WFAN (and the Jersey Guys show on NJ101.5 previous to that), was arrested on Sept. 6, 2017, by federal agents. He was charged with securities and wire fraud for his role in what investigators said was a ticket-selling Ponzi scheme.

The Securities and Exchange Commission accused Carton and Joseph Meli of claiming they had access to giant blocks of concert tickets. They would then tell investors that they could buy the tickets and the duo would resell them at profit. But the SEC claimed Carton and Meli instead used at least $3.6 million to repay earlier investors and cover massive gambling debts mostly from playing blackjack that Carton incurred. The SEC complaint also alleged Carton stole another $2 million by tricking a concert venue into forwarding an investors money into a bank account belonging to one of Cartons companies, according to a press release at the time.

Carton was suspended from the station a week later and resigned days after that.

At trial, Carton was found guilty of all charges. He was sentenced on April 15, 2019, to three and a half years in prison.

He was released on June 23, having served a little over a year.

On Oct. 29, WFAN announced Carton was coming back to the airwaves, teaming up with Roberts for the Carton & Roberts Show.

Since Carton has been back in the FAN fold, he is up to his old shock-jock antics, starting a radio feud with WEEI in Boston.

According to a New York Post report, Carton was interviewed on the stations OMF show by one of the hosts, Christian Fauria, a former tight end for the Patriots.

Fauria asked Carton if he was allowed conjugal visits when he was in the slammer.

The answer is no, and you can do anything you want to try to make light of my going to prison, [but] youre making a jackass of yourself, frankly, Carton said.

Since then, the hosts have been trading on-air barbs.

As for the new Saturday show?

Carton is happy to be working with 1-800-GAMBLER and hopes to shine a light on problem gaming.

Theyre the experts, Carton said during his show. Theyre the ones that are going to walk us through whats going on inside our noggin that makes us irrational and leads to an addiction.
