Proud Boys, Women for Trump march to Oregon governor’s mansion in Salem – Statesman Journal

Nearly 100 people including members of the Proud Boys and a Women for Trump rally marched from Bushs Pasture Park in South Salem to the Governors mansion Saturday, but the demonstration was peaceful and no arrests were made.

The groups waving flags assembled in the southeast corner of Bush Park Saturday, many individuals wore body armor andsome carriedweapons including guns and knives.

As joggers made their way around the park and saw the groups assembled, they abruptly turned around to avoid them, and a Salem Police car kept its distance from the groups.

A stage was set up on a flatbed trailer with a cardboard cutout of President Trump on a stage, anda large American flag as the background.

The Proud Boys identify as Western chauvinists and their group has been designated as a hate group by The Southern Poverty Law Center.

Are there any Nazis here? said Flip Todd, who identified himself as the vice president of the Portland chapter of the Proud Boys.

No, the crowd answered.

Are there any white supremacists here?

No, was the response.

Are there any Black supremacists here?

No.

Though the original Women for Trump rally was supposed to be for the Salem chapter of that movement, many of the protesters from areas such as Portland, Milwaukie and Bandon. Some in the crowd wore shirts designating them Salem Proud Boys.

They marched approximately a mile to Mahonia Hall, the Governor's mansion.

You hear that dictator Kate? You dont own us, one of the marchers yelled through a bullhorn whenarriving at Mahonia Hall.

Immediately before the crowds arrival, a state police vehicle arrived with two officers, and shortly after four more arrived on bicycles, then six officers stood in a row in front of a driveway.

Back the blue, the crowd chanted.

No one came out from the house in the half-hour the crowd was there.

A few of the protesters gave speeches in front of Mahonia Halland anumber of the people took pictures in front of the gates of the Governors residence. There were no altercations before the crowd dispersed.
