DC Comics: 10 DC Villains Who Could Replace The Anti-Monitor In Arrowverse – CBR – Comic Book Resources

The last few years of the Arrowverse concluded a long growing storyline that saw one of the multiverses greatest threats, the Anti-Monitor, finally reveal himself and nearly destroy all of reality. Thanks to Oliver Queen and the heroes of the multiverse, a new multiverse was born, with the Anti-Monitor defeated and a new Earth-Prime built in the process.

With this powerful foe defeated finally, the question now remains: what villain can replace the Anti-Monitor and influence the stories of the remaining heroes of Earth-Prime? Lets take a look at ten villains who could replace the Anti-Monitor in the Arrowverse.

While the majority of the major crossover storylines in the last couple years focused on multiverse travel, destruction and rewriting reality itself, a concept that could be explored further in a crossover setting would be time travel. One DC villain that could embody that perfectly would be Monarch.

Now there have been a couple of different versions of Monarch. The first was a futuristic villain who had once been the hero Hank Hall, aka Hawk of Hawk and Dove, but there was also the Nathan Adam version of Monarch as well. The futuristic villain created out of a former hero would be an interesting concept to explore.

One powerful foe that would make for an interesting story arc across multiple shows in the newly formed multiverse would be Superboy-Prime. The original Superman of Earth-Prime in the comics, his world was destroyed during Crisis on Infinite Earths, and he stayed behind in a paradise dimension after the Anti-Monitors defeat alongside Kal-L of Earth 2, his wife Lois and Alexander Luthor Jr. of Earth 3.

However, his sanity begins to crumble in the paradise dimension and is convinced to break into the Post-Crisis reality. His pounding on the barrier of reality alters many events, which would be interesting to see play out here.

One villain who would work really well in a plot to possess and cause havoc across the new Earth-Prime in a crossover event would be Eclipso. Originally thought to be simply the dark half of a man named Bruce Gordon, Eclipso was retconned to be a vengeance demon bound to the black crystal known as the Heart of Darkness.

Seeking to possess powerful beings, he has been known to attempt corrupting the heroes of the DC Universe, from Superman to Captain Marvel and even during the Rebirth era the entire Justice League. This would make for an interesting turn for the Arrowverse heroes.

A villain who is fairly new to the DC Comics universe but would be an interesting follow-up to the actions of the Anti-Monitor and Crisis on Infinite Earths as a whole would be Perpetua. Perpetua is a powerful entity that was one of several entities made to create new life in various multiverses in the greater Omniverse.

However, Perpetua was considered the bad seed of the entities in charge of making the multiverses and tried to take over. Her sons betrayed her, however, including the Monitor, and had her sealed in the Source Wall. She broke free in the modern-day DC Universe.

After battling villains with dreams of multiversal dominance and destruction, taking a step back to fight a foe who seeks nothing but global dominance would be a refreshing take on the crossover events of the Arrowverse. One such foe that the heroes of Earth-Prime could face would be Mongul.

Mongul is a longtime Superman and Justice League foe. The tyrannical ruler of a planet, his goals have tied into possessing the world-sized superweapon known as Warworld and using it to assert his control over the universe, including Earth. With Superman taking a larger role in the Arrowverse, this would be a good villain to step up.

Aside from Brainiac himself, one interesting villain who comes from the same line of the Coluan people would be Brainiacs son/clone, Vril Dox, aka Brainiac 2. The great-grandfather of Brainiac 5, Vril was originally adopted to be Brainiacs son, but in later retcons, he has become Brainiacs clone and son back and forth.

Vril has an interesting storyline, constantly coming back and forth between being a hero and anti-hero to becoming an outright villain. He has led rebellions against the Computer Tyrants of Colu and has seen himself become a ruthless tyrant in the future thanks to the hero Waverider, so his story could be multilayered in the Arrowverse.

After all of the sacrifice and loss that came with the rebirth of a new multiverse and Oliver Queens passing, one villain who would represent the most emotional and physical threat to the heroes of Earth-Prime would be Imperiex. A villain who is the physical embodiment of entropy, this being of energy housed inside of a powerful suit of armor sought Earths destruction.

For what purpose? To restart the universe with a new big bang of course. Something the Arrowverse just went through. The plot of this villains appearance includes the entire universe banding together to stop this threat altogether.

One villain who is tough to know whether or not hed be available for an appearance in the Arrowverse is the all-powerful villain Darkseid. The grand leader and tyrant of Apokolips and the villainous New God at war with New Genesis and High Father, he is also a longtime Superman and Justice League foe.

With powerful Omega Beams and an army of parademons and evil generals, Darkseids quest for the Anti-Life equation would be interesting to see play out in the Arrowverse, possibly leading into Final Crisis itself. However, it is unclear what his status is with teases for the villain seen in the DCEU over the years.

One powerful foe that would be great to see and could possibly tie into John Diggles transformation into Green Lantern would be Despero. A powerful tyrannical ruler from space, Desperos powerful third eye allows him to take control over the heroes of Earth and others as well and has become a powerful foe of heroes like Martian Manhunter, The Flash and Green Lantern over the years.

With so much chaos and upheaval in the world now that Earth-Prime has formed, Despero would be the perfect powerful threat to prey upon the heroes as they adjust to this new reality.

The one villain who would have the greatest presence and ties to the Arrowverse at the moment would be Brainiac. An all-powerful AI/Bio-organic machine with the desire to obtain all knowledge and collect entire cities and miniaturize them into glass domes, Brainiac is not only a longtime foe of Superman and his allies but is the ancestor of Brainiac 5 that the hero has feared becoming for the last few seasons of Supergirl.

A truly powerful threat to the DC Universe, his attempts at destroying Earth and collecting cities, and possibly introducing the bottled city of Kandor in the process, would make for great crossover potential storylines.
