Sen. John McKeon, D-27th District, introduced a three-bill package focused on responsible gaming.

The legislation, filed last week, is aimed at strengthening gaming protections for children and chronic gamblers and increasing tax revenue from the growing use of online gaming here in the Garden State.

The measures include:

Senate Bill 3062 would prohibit casinos from using non-wagering casino games to encourage future gambling. Apps run by casinos that replicate the experience of playing real casino games take advantage of children to get them hooked at a young age so they can make monetary bets in the future, said McKeon. We must protect our kids from these predatory practices and hold casinos accountable to prevent the next generation from falling victim to the devastating consequences of compulsive gambling.

The issue of responsible gaming is one of critical importance as the sector continues growing with industry stakeholders acknowledging the importance of providing tools and resources for users in an effort to head off any potential pitfalls. The state recently launched a new initiative aimed toward this.
